Synopsis:

In the frigid region known as the Crown of the World, people from diverse cultures and backgrounds must all band together to survive the long nights of winter and deadly thaws of spring. The way of life of these hardy frontier folk is now threatened by a serpentine creature that slips in during the dead of night and empties their nets of fish and their smoking racks of fresh meat. Unable and unwilling to let this theft stand, the people of the tiny northern town of Aaminiut have placed a bounty on the creature known locally as "the Whitefange Wyrm".

I'm now prepared to use net.

next round, I can use the ready action to throw net on him the following round, but everyone needs to stay within 15 feet of me, assuming one of us will get attacked.

Or I can use it next round if someone points him out.

the net has a range of 20 feet, so we need to get him to be within 20 feet of me.

Lets avoid going further into the cave. That does not help us much.

I believe the sunlight contributes to his camo somehow, but I don't see us addressing that anytime soon...unless we left and came back at night???

If I miss with the net, then someone else can pick it up and give it a try. The net works with a simple ranged attack.

Being as the Point Out action only gives allies a 50% chance of hitting the creature, (having just looked at Pointing Out properly), I guess our best bet is for each of us to seek, strike, step .... At least make the creature step or stride to get to us, therefore giving it only 1 chance to stealth.

If anyone has anything like a bottle of ink, bag of flour, or something that we can throw over it when we see it to disrupt it's stealth, or catch it in a net or if Snoslun grapples it.

Dulcinea you are so far away at present, Ysoldt may or may not be able to benefit from Inspire Courage, as it has a 60ft radius from you, which is 12 squares.

A couple "dirty trick" ideas in here.

Going to throw a rough skeleton for how to adjudicate these, which, if you can Describe It, connect it to a Trained Skill, then connect it to a Penalty, in such a way that all three "make sense" together, it'll ride at this table.

"I want to use an object in my pocket" @ Interact (◆, free hand)
"I want to use an object in my backpack" @ Interact x2 (◆◆, two free hands, now holding backpack and object)
"I want to use part of a feature of the terrain" @ Interact (◆, free hand) from a space adjacent to that feature / terrain
"I want to use a large object" @ as above but 2 free hands
"I want to hamper the beast somehow with this object" @ Double Action w/ Manipulate (◆◆, holding object) w/ Skill Check vs Save DC / Skill DC for penalty to some other check against adjacent target

Dirty Trick:

CS > Creature is -2 to that check
S > Creature is -1 to that check
CF > GM choice!

Also, a suggestion for Duration and/or Actions to remove the penalty!

GM, question regarding the way the creature uses Hide action. Not to be a rule lawyer, just out of curiosity, because I have been doing it differently in games I run, so I want to 'compare notes', sort of.

The way it is played here is that you can hide in plain sight (hide when directly observed).

In my games, you need to move around a corner, hide behind a rock/barrel/whatever other cover first, then use hide to become hidden.

I just double checked the Hide action:

Quote:

You huddle behind cover or greater cover or deeper into concealment to become hidden, rather than observed. The GM rolls your Stealth check in secret and compares the result to the Perception DC of each creature you’re observed by but that you have cover or greater cover against or are concealed from. You gain the circumstance bonus from cover or greater cover to your check.

Success If the creature could see you, you’re now hidden from it instead of observed. If you were hidden from or undetected by the creature, you retain that condition.

If you successfully become hidden to a creature but then cease to have cover or greater cover against it or be concealed from it, you become observed again. You cease being hidden if you do anything except Hide, Sneak, or Step. If you attempt to Strike a creature, the creature remains flat-footed against that attack, and you then become observed. If you do anything else, you become observed just before you act unless the GM determines otherwise. The GM might allow you to perform a particularly unobtrusive action without being noticed, possibly requiring another Stealth check.

If a creature uses Seek to make you observed by it, you must successfully Hide to become hidden from it again.

Emphasis mine.

I understand the creature might have some ability to ignore the cover thing, but I just wanted to make sure.

Suppose that I would want to Hide now, assuming it is near where I originally was positioned when it attacked me, is it possible even if it should potentially see me from where it attacked me? If it is still in that square, that is.

Might as well use my stealth bonus to follow it around sneaking, observe and point out if necessary.

Other than digging the main-gauche into the ground, with the blade pointing up, like an extra large caltrop or extra small stake, Jac doesn't have much to help in dirty tricks.

We could block the passageway by chipping the ice walls and making them collapse, but that would take too long.

Jac is pretty much stand and hit, he doesn't have stealth to hide. Does have a repair kit, which would contain a pot of black paint, which he could throw over the creature, which might alter it's stealth.

If that's the case it would go ....

How does that sound? I am trained in crafting, even though I'm rubbish at it. :-)

I did also forget, that if I miss hitting the creature, if doesn't count against my penalty for a strike, so it makes 'Pointing Out' a little better, cos if I miss with the first strike, I don't get the -5 penalty.

That is how I normally run Stealth as well. Recalling Knowledge for this creature uses the Arcana skill. And yes, if you are unsure whether you have Cover from a creature you can still try to Hide.

Jacknife,
Going to stick to the skeleton two posts above your post, including the action economy. Yes you can roll Crafting vs an appropriate DC to try and penalize it's Stealth checks, as described.

Under Basic Actions
