Back in the mid 70's I remember going from Oahu to Maui, and back again, on the hydrofoils. Seeing the flying fish and a whale during the trip. Too bad you can't do that anymore.

I remember my dad telling me about that. I was too young to remember. By the time I was old enough they were long gone... The Kauai channel was always too rough to cross that way...

I was able to cross the Kauai channel on the Hokule'a though. That was a trip... The swells were big enough that all of a sudden the deck would suddenly fall out from under you... it was an uncanny feeling.

I am back. So let us break down what everyone plans to do over the course of 9 days.

As mentioned earlier, it will take the two smiths 2 days to produce enough spears for every able bodied militia member.

So, everyone chime in on what you are contributing, if you are using a skill, toolkit, or background.

Khitt is working with a small team digging and laying traps in the woods to cover the town’s weakest side of attack. Was thinking it would key off of his survival skill.

I don't know how refined you want to make this, but:

1) Making weapons (Smithing) = 2 days
2) Making general repairs (armour, equipment, etc.) (Smithing + Mending spell) = 1 day
3) Training militia (Soldier background) = 3 days
4) Creating blockades, kill-spots, choke-points (etc) in the town (Soldier background) = 3 days

There would be some overlap between training and preparing the town, since Baldrick would probably be instructing the militia about how to construct and take advantage of choke points, etc.

RODALAS

That looks good

RODALAS

How was your vacation?

Rodney will try and do what he does best, talk, he will talk to everyone and try to persuade them to all be ready for the coming fight. To gain more bodies for being workers to help with the defense's, to learn to become a militia, and to gathering supplies for everyone. He tries to get the whole town, men, women and children to rally around this cause. He will then walk around singing songs to lift peoples spirits, and work songs to work by.

It was good and productive. I was able to do a lot of things that I cannot normally do while working full time. Our room had a perfect view of the sunrise too... ^_^

Okay, based on chimes in here and what was posted before (correct me if I am wrong):

  • Baldrick - Forge spears (Smith's tools), Train militia (Soldier background), Build killzone (Soldier background)
  • Umikh - Forge spears (Smith's tools), Build fortifications (physical labor?)
  • Khitt - Lay traps to shore up weak side (Survival)
  • Rodney - Raise morale, convince the townsfolk of the threat (Persuasion)
  • Lumen - Forage (Survival), use animals as scouts (speak with animals)
  • Netzer - Build fortifications (toolkit, maybe carpenter's tools?), chop wood (Athletics)
  • Rodalas - Build fortifications (physical labor?)

Yes, sounds good for Umikh. Building fortifications would be physical labor as I was thinking he'd help with the actual task, there's no reason he would have that kind of intelligence otherwise.

Grand Lodge

Owlbear Rodeo

Sounds good. I will move it on on Monday or so... Gotta catchup at work first...

Grand Lodge

Owlbear Rodeo

Going to give a little more time for the others to get back in the groove then I will begin my presentation of the time leading up...

RODALAS

Is there an option to help train these skeefy people?

Grand Lodge

Owlbear Rodeo

That would be the Soldier Background.

RODALAS

Okay!

Just remember the town you live in is not the same as the rest of the world. Somethings you say or do normally could be have a different meaning to someone else. Such as, a friend of mine told me that in the South if they say "Well, bless your Hart" means "go to hell". Then there is the whole going to another country thing.

But yes, take vacations, and go to places you have never been before. Don't get stuck in a rut by keep going back to the same place every time.

Grand Lodge

Sorry, guys. I am composing a long post, but because of work distractions, it is taking longer than I had expected... I hope to have it up today!

You mean this Rodney?

It's a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don't keep your feet, there's no knowing where you might be swept off to.

RODALAS

Don't feel bad, the last 2 days have been nuts. We had a Languages Honor Society induction last night.

RODALAS

What a day. 10 days ago in my Latin I class, as part of the mythology unit I do (you know teaching Classics) students are tasked with creating their own pantheons, mythological stories, epic heroes and epic story.
Today, I get an email from an angry parent accussing me of spreading idolatry, which is the reason the Latin culture isn't flourishing today, and that their student would not be completing this assignment because of idolatry.
When I ask what might be appropriate, making sure that the Standards are covered, the response was an assignment on Latin American dance.

Grand Lodge

Owlbear Rodeo

That is mind-boggling. Where are you located again?

My kid is a fool and your teaching is making him feel bad, can't you teach something that he might find on-line to copy?

Latin....Latin America.....my brain hurts. I have thoughts about parents like that. Mad respect for teachers like you who have a tremendous amount of patience to deal with that...stuff.

I have told the parent that I need their help in designing the assignment, since I am not aware of ther theological hermentutics and I am not going to spend my time on designing a new assignmenet when it might offent their theological hermenuetics.

If they want to play teacher, well, then, let them play teacher.

Don't worry bud I am a professor of literature in college and have the same sort of days trying to teach Moby Dick, Catcher in the Rye, etc etc...

RODALAS

Now he is surprised that other Christian students have not had a problem with the assignment and he is sad that they do not stand up for the Bible.

Grand Lodge

Wow, just wow. I have my personal thoughts about religion, but I will just keep them to myself.

I told him that he was allowed to his own theological beliefs but he was not free to make them for others.

I think that's probably the best thing you could say

RODALAS

I think so too. I am sorry, but you dont get to sit there in judgement over people that you don't know just because they may not fit your self understanding of religious practice.

Unless your the GM/DM and the player rolled a 1 on religion...LOL

RODALAS

You csn't fix stupid.

RODALAS

Apparently he took this to the School Board and the District saying that I was not willing to work with him for an alternate assignment.

They do realize that you were trying to teach mythology right? What are they asking for, the kid to do a paper on how the universe is just a marble being played with by alien kids (I think that was the end of Men in Black 2). Oh wait that is what you were asking for...lol

RODALAS

I don't think someone who does not know the difference between Latin and Latin America can make distinctions.

Male Half Elf Bard 5 AC 14 HP 28 /28 Temp HP: 8 Passive Perception +18 Saves: S -1, D +5, Co +0, I +4, W +2, Ch +6

Well that's easy, one is a language from the Roman Empire that passed through places like Italy and many words is used in English for Medicine, Sciences, and Law. The other is where you get tacos from.

RODALAS

He probably needs to take my class?

3rd level though to introduce a mob with an AOE single save or die ability is a little ridiculous. You don’t reach lethargic kind of spell ability until much later in the leveling process. Now granted, it’s 0 hps not dead and if we make these saving throws the fight is completely different. (Shrug)

Not that I am disagreeing, but I think that this design is not too bad for an Epic, because this is one table out of many. If I were designing this, I would have done it like they did the Starter Box, where you can talk to this banshee, but no, they give no such option.

Grand Lodge

Owlbear Rodeo

Also, if Lumen was even one level higher, it would have been a much different fight... Hopefully, he and Rodney make their saves...

RODALAS

I hope that I made the save.
