Okay, check out the new Players Guide and make yourself a character!

Because it is AL, I would say play what you find fun. 5e is really forgiving enough that party roles are easy to overcome. We have a bard, and a cleric that just jumped in. The other characters are a sorcerer that is convinced that it is not him, a dwarven fighter, a goblin ranger, and an eladrin swashbuckler!
We are pretty set all the way around. I am more interested in seeing interesting characters than a balanced party. ;)

Just a question, how hard would going with Bugbear be?
From Volo’s Guide to Monsters. Aasimar, Firbolg, Goliath*, Kenku, Kobold, Orc, and Tabaxi
From Mordenkainen’s Tome of Foes. Deep Gnome, Duergar, Eladrin, Gith, Shadar-kai, and Tiefling subraces
Looks like they did not deem Bugbear as appropriate for Season 10. The only reason why Khitt got away with playing a Gobbo, is that he has a certificate. Sorry!

Edelsmirge wrote:Yeah that mountain dwarf is pretty amazing for barbarianSad thing is that they removed SCAG from play, so Battlerager is out, though nothing to say that you can't just skin another Primal Path as Battlerager, or make a custom background for it.
I don’t remember the battle ranger from SCAG being particularly effective.

No one realizes the pain that they become when they hit 6th level. When they Reckless Attack, they gain temp hp equal to their Con mod. As they are dwarves, AND barbarians, Con is likely to be high. I believe the resistance to damage is applied before the temp hp is removed, and as this refreshes every round (as long as they reckless).
Their only real worry is non-weapon damage (i.e.- fire, lightning, etc.)
I ran, early on, a battlerager and he was pretty tough to get down...

Aloha Benobo, this is Aesh's character for this game. It looks like some kind of Healing capability would be appreciated in this one, since we lost both the bard and the cleric. We have a couple of fighters, a barbarian, and a sorcerer in the mix right now. We are kind of Dwarf-heavy as a group, with one Dwarf-raised Human and a Goblin in the mix (depending on who is running the next go-round.)

A sorcerer!?
How dare you, sir! I'll have you know that arcane magic is extremely dangerous and borderline evil. I mean, think of all the times we've been in combat and some weird magical stuff started happening!
Baldrick is good and loyal soldier, and nothing you can say will convince him otherwise.

What would be the format for creating a character? I know this used to be an AL thing but should I follow the AL format to make a character or just hop right in with a level 5 character?
It seems like we have a pretty heavy martial twinge in the group so i am thinking most likely a cleric or a divine soul sorcerer to fill the full caster + healer archetype that’s needed.

Follow the AL format. Actually, now there is guidance for making a 5th level character. You will get to choose a magic item from a list of Uncommons.
As for healing, it is nice to have, but 5e is pretty forgiving for parties that are not super balanced. So make what you think you will enjoy playing most. At least that would be my suggestion.

Well, in that case - let me make sure this is alright with everybody. Order Domain Cleric has an ability that makes it so whenever I target an ally with a spell, they may immediately use their reaction to make a Weapon Attack against an enemy I can see. The exact wording is: "If you cast a spell with a spell slot of 1st level or higher and target an ally with the spell, that ally can use their reaction immediately after the spell to make one weapon attack against a creature of your choice that you can see.
If the spell targets more than one ally, you choose the ally who can make the attack."
This may make PbP a bit confusing, so I understand if you guys would want me to choose a different subclass. Just let me know.

I think to be fair, we should stick to the setting. Many of those spells are specific to those campaign settings and very much fit the tone, but might not for FR. However, as I am not running anymore, I will defer to those that are running. (Note: Silvery Barbs from Strixhaven has been a massive point of contention at my face-to-face tables, and can be irritating at best.)
