I had long been irritated by Drizzt's romance with Cattie-Brie. It reeked of Lady Murasaki in the Tale of Genji... super creepy. I mean he knew her since she was a wee child... Of course that is my own issue.

RODALAS

That was weird as well.

RODALAS

Got my copy of Mordenkainain's monsters. Interesting. I wish they would have updated the races in PHB.

Grand Lodge

RPG Chronicles | [url=]Slides]

Oh? The PHB races are not addressed?

RODALAS

Not in the book specifically. The races from other sources are, even the bunnies :)

Grand Lodge

RPG Chronicles | [url=]Slides]

Hmm... I wonder if they are intending to include them in the next print run for the Core books...

RODALAS

No idea. It does not sound like it though.

RODALAS

I kind of like some of the changes they have done, like eladrin get fey step up to their proficiency bonus now.

I jumped the gun a bit on my (very long) post because I will be away for a bit -- we are taking a trip to Victoria, BC from Feb 9-16. I should have internet access while I'm away, but probably not the opportunity for a long post, so I wanted to make sure I wrote it before I left. Hopefully, it will slot into our downtime visit to Kelvin's Cairn without too much difficulty.

RODALAS

have fun

I liked my story of walking past a vendor and having the earring note something of value others didn't note and having it whisper to me to get it. If you want to further embellish/stretch that out, then cool.

Grand Lodge

RPG Chronicles | [url=]Slides]

Khitt, what would you like to do with you? Would he go to stay with the dwarves, or investigate the thefts of the chardalyn further?

I pm’d you kinda asking the same thing lol. Khitt is an explorer as much as anyone else. He’d love to hang out with the dwarves as long as they don’t have a problem with a goblin in their halls.

Sorry about that. It used to indicate when I had a PM, now nothing. If there is one thing that the Battlehammer Dwarves have proven is that they are more accepting of outcasts regardless of race... We can work in that Khitt once saved a few of them from an avalanche and they made him an honorary member of the clan.

Baldrick, I am giving you a little bit to respond, in case you want to RP a bit with your new friends. If not, I will move ahead.

What year is it? I was trying to read up on the relationship between Amaunator and Lathander on the Forgotten Realms Wiki.

Grand Lodge

RPG Chronicles | [url=]Slides]

Approximately 1490. Amaunator was 'usurped' as the Morninglord and has not been worshipped in the open for a very long time.

There is a contentious relationship, as Amaunator's following call Lathander the false god or the Usurper.

Amaunator is more on the Lawful side and Lathander is more on the Good side... philosophically.

RODALAS

meh

sorry, webstie was acting wonky last night. It won't let me on Chrome on my desktop, only my phone. It will let me on MS Edge on my desktop, even after clearing cookies and cache :(

RODALAS

would arcane archer be a better route for him to go?

Grand Lodge

RPG Chronicles | [url=]Slides]

Up to you. I hear a lot of people have a love-hate relationship with the Bladesinger.

RODALAS

He would have a great AC when he was in the bladedance.

Grand Lodge

RPG Chronicles | [url=]Slides]

But not a lot of hp to back it up. Having a high AC increases the chance that every hit you take is a critical hit.

RODALAS

I made a copy of him to 7th lvl 4 in rogue and 3 in wizard and then 3 in fighter, damage out put woukd be better with the archer, since he would get more sneak I think and use of misty step to pop around, I think it works better with assassin as well.

Can I trade the shirtsword for a bow abd the headband for the bracers of archery?

RODALAS

If I got better armor woukd it stack with my Dex?

RODALAS

feywild ranger?

Grand Lodge

RPG Chronicles | [url=]Slides]

No, Medium Armors cap out at +2 from Dex. Heavy Armors do not benefit from Dex at all.

If you take another level of Rogue, you can have Uncanny Dodge to help mitigate damage, but it uses your Reaction.

If you go ranger or fighter, you can take the Defense fighting style to increase your AC while wearing armor by 1.

It would benefit you more to do one or the other rather than dip multiple times, but do what you feel you need to fit the end result that you are looking for. I was trying to find out if you needed to be wielding a blade to use bladesong, but it appears that you don't. (Which thematically doesn't seem to fit, but hey, whatever. Maybe it is like the gun-kata in Equilibrium.)

It is a bit late to be switching out the headband for bracers of archery, as that adventure is long past, but if everyone else is okay with it and we aren't running strict AL anymore, I will let it slide.

As for Arcane Archer, I don't care for it. It feels like a battlemaster that recharges on a long rest instead of short rest.

Anyway, that is just my advice, take it for what it is worth.

RODALAS

So a fighter archer would be better? I need to see the battlemaster.

RODALAS

I hardly ever play melee classes in either game, I think that fighter, for a few levels would help damage output a lot more.

Grand Lodge

RPG Chronicles | [url=]Slides]

Battlemaster is in the PHB, and can be worked okay for an archer, though some maneuvers are specifically a melee attack, so you want to read carefully on that.

I like Battlemaster, but it fits my style better than Arcane Archer.

Male Half Elf Bard 5 AC 14 HP 28 /28 Temp HP: 8 Passive Perception +18 Saves: S -1, D +5, Co +0, I +4, W +2, Ch +6

Grand Lodge

RPG Chronicles | [url=]Slides]

Yeah, the latest maintenance may have done that...

RODALAS

I kinda like the arcane archer, the arrows are pretty neat.

Grand Lodge

RPG Chronicles | [url=]Slides]

Then I would say go for it!

RODALAS

The arrows sound like more fey things in that they can be unpredictable on the people I hit with them.

Leather armor gives an AC so with Dex of it should be a + correct?

Rodalas' escapade has caught my full attention now!

Umikh would simply state his name, if asked, as he is embarrassed at what his family has become. Perhaps someone can remind him that his history is still one to be proud of.

Background for the new/refresher: Umikh's family is from the Far Hills, east of Baldur's Gate. His forefathers were highly regarded metal smiths. Some of the metal work and weapons they created are still functioning. Which is one of the many reasons for their family's decline, including declining demand and increased supply costs, as well as the interfering presence of the Zhentarim.

To make ends meet, the family cuts corners. Doesn't heat the metals hot enough, mixes dirty sand and inferior metals into their kilns. The mob's pressure to produce contributes to the inferior products they churn out. His family doesn't really seem to mind, the money is still enough that they have all they want and much of what they need. It doesn't feel right, but no one is getting hurt.

Until someone does. The failure of their product cost lives in a tragic accident that no one was left to blame them for. Umikh decided no more. He is not cutting any more corners. They can just make better products for fewer people. His family said....nah. So he left.

What if... Let me know if you like this... What if you were a splinter off the Rockseekers that were responsible for the Lost Mine of the Phandelver, the Wave Echo Cave? I know they are actually up North, between Waterdeep and Neverwinter, but that was the chord that was struck when reading your clan history. It's okay if it is not what you were looking for, just let me know what you think?

I also was peppered by the Paizo site update LOL Finally got logged back into my account.

So are we thinking Khitt has already joined back with the group or should I plan on him meeting them at the Battlehammer's/Turq's folks? I'd had a thought that maybe Khitt show's up and suprised to find everyone here but I am cool either way.

Grand Lodge

RPG Chronicles | [url=]Slides]

Maybe he is already at the drinking hall? He was investigating the druid and his chardalyn infused army, and maybe he was beset upon and the dwarves gave him sanctuary?

Sounds good. Khatt got scraped up in a fight with a wandering monster and had to seek refuge with the dwarves.

RODALAS

dwarves? meh, lol

Sorry, thought I'd replied. I'd prefer to keep the current backstory, with the same story, though I'm not married to the location. My thought is that he will come to accept both the good and bad about his family, and maybe start a new clan/offshoot focused on smithing. After the adventuring bit of course and who knows where that will take him.

Understood. Is Umikh a Hill Dwarf?

RODALAS

The dwarves in that area are mountain dwarves correct?

Grand Lodge

RPG Chronicles | [url=]Slides]

But Umikh seems to indicate that they left the mountains and live in the hills now... Just was wondering if it was a background choice that led to racial choice...

He's a Hill Dwarf, yes. (https://ddb.ac/characters/37136943/e3yxsU)
The character stats came first, then the back story, then the fine details. I'm sort of a backwards character creator (!!).

too many dwarves :)

Dark Archive

Male Dwarf (mountain) Barbarian 5(path of the ancestral guardian), max hp 55, ac 15

This is a dwarf centric story with a token elf and a human storyteller to regale the elf with more dwarf stories, and then a human who counts himself a dwarf by upraising so... Yeah

Based on how things have worked out since the beginning, I feel like Baldrick is the main character with most of the others playing supporting roles. Rodney is likely the bard telling the tales...

Just based on how things have played out, anyway. Likely, this is Baldrick's tale and you all are the interesting folk that he met along the way... :p
