Woo hoo I'm buffer! Not to be confused with in the buff, nope, that's a different character, lol. >flex<
Aeshuura |
The class seems to indicate that you may have to purchase the spellbook... not that you have much to spend all your gold on... ;)
Aeshuura |
I am curious, why rogue? You would be limited to finesse weapons to really make use of the Sneak, which dampens the Brutal Crit feature, later on. Druid is mostly because of Raging Bear (or other big HP sponge)...

I think I'm going to follow through with that plan to start taking levels in Barbarian, with the goal of taking the Path of Wild Magic (assuming that's permitted). I don't think that will initially require much of a story trigger, other than training with Netzer (for starters), but I welcome any suggestions!
Aeshuura |
You meet the pre-requisites, right? Charisma 13 and Strength 13? Then no problem!
Aeshuura |
Stick with Barb until lvl 6, then you get your second Ancestral Guardian ability, or 8, if you can stomach it to get the second Ability Score Increase...
Aeshuura |
Sure, there are. Ones that may be studying the harsh and unending winter... The Arcane Brotherhood often visits Ten Towns... I have another way, but it might not be quite to Rodalas' liking.
I am also thinking of doing a bit of Downtime and Rodalas could spend a bit of time in the Feywild training on his wizardry...
Aeshuura |
Once @Greycastle wraps up this one, I will give about a week of Downtime that you all can do RP, or get things done that you intend to.
Also, since you all should be at level 5 by the end of it, you can also come up with a reason you obtain one of the following:
• +1 weapon
• +1 shield
• +1 rod of the pact keeper
• +1 wand of the war mage
• +1 all-purpose tool (TCE)
• +1 amulet of the devout (TCE)
• +1 arcane grimoire (TCE)
• +1 bloodwell vial (TCE)
• +1 moon sickle (TCE)
• +1 rhythm-maker’s drum (TCE)
• Bag of holding

As I was updating my character, I realized that my soldier background piece of memorabilia was a broken duergar dagger... Haha, I had a bigger connection to that duergar punk than I had remembered! XD
Aeshuura |
Netzer, so you level after Greycastle's run to 4th, then you can spend 10 Downtime days to level to 5th.
EDIT: Lumen may do the same.

So what do we have right now in our group?
I can do a remake here to anything really. This is my first go at 5e and I am willing to do what's best group wise and also I have had a bit of trouble with being Frontline honestly in that it hasn't gone great thus far
Aeshuura |
Sorcerer (Wild Magic) / Barbarian (Wild Magic)? - Baldrick
Fighter (Champion) - Umikh
Rogue (Assassin) / Wizard (Bladesinger)? - Rodalas
Bard (Lore) - Rodney
Cleric (Light) - Lumen
Trade out DMs:
Ranger (Beastmaster) - Khitt (Greycastle)
Fighter (Cavalier) - Turq (Aeshuura)
EDIT: Honestly, play what you feel comfortable with. We have frontline handled fairly well.
Rodney Lash |
Well for my 3rd level spell I have chosen Leomund’s Tiny Hut. If someone else has that one I can also choose Catnap or Tongues if that works better for the party.
And for the magic item he will take the +1 rhythm-maker’s drum.

When do the new racial adjustments take place
I havnt heard about any new racial adjustments unless you mean the information from Tasha’s that essentially allows the player to decide where you’re racial bonus is added. If that’s what you’re talking about, it is already in play.
Rodalas Windrace |
There is a new book, Mordenkanian's something or other, being released with Tasha and Xanathar in a gift set, which is updating 5e races to be more aligned with changes in Tasha and Fizba. It comes out on the 25th I think.
Turquoise 'Turq' Barreltap AL |
Yeah, I wouldn't hold my breath on that. We may not guidance until the end of February, if we get guidance at all. You may already reassign your +2 and +1 wherever you want, and trade out your racial weapon proficiencies, per the ALPG v11.0.
Baldrick Longhall |
That's pretty hilarious, since the original idea for Baldrick was based on the fact that you can't cast spells in armour unless you are proficient, and Mountain Dwarves automatically have armour proficiency :D

I would suggest come up with a concept and I can help come up with different builds for the same concept, maybe? What do you want to play?
Baldrick Longhall |
yeah, that's a tough one -- partly it depends on what you think the earring would call power: is it magical power? money? political?
Depending on the answer, you could keep Netzer as he is or start taking levels in ... well, anything really. I don't think you need to completely redesign him if you don't want to.
Aeshuura |
Generally, the power that the earring drives you toward would be considered 'political'. It wants power over others... driving you to megalomania...
Greycastle |
I went with something simple to learn 5e and then got challenged by a whispering earring into my brain and it's totally flipped my concept of this character around lol
This is the way it should be in my opinion. Things that happen to us alter our path all the time.

I'm taking the +1 amulet of the devout just not familiar enough with the area on how I would get it.

You have heard that there is a Temple of the Sun at Bryn Shander... I believe that you are a worshipper of Lathander, but you find out that the current priestess venerates an older god of the Sun and Judgement, named Amaunator... We can roleplay that out, if you like. It seems that there is some friction between the orders... ;)
Greycastle |
I was thinking another way of gaining some of these items were as a reward from the speaker of Easthaven as well since the book adventures are pretty stingy when it comes to magical treasure.
Aeshuura |
Yeah, I am considering having Turq take you to Kelvin's Cairn and the Dwarves there may have something to give the kin in the group.
Baldrick Longhall |
Hmm... the magic item is a tough choice.
I was considering the Bloodwell Vial -- I even have a sort of idea about how he would acquire it -- but it's not a huge advantage. +1 spell attack and DC is great, but currently, Baldrick's spells don't use those (mostly bc I chose spells that he wouldn't be aware he was casting). Regaining Sorcery Points after a short rest would be useful, though. So... if I was thinking of min/maxing this, I'd swap out his spells.
On the other hand, a +1 weapon fits better with his plan to switch to Barbarian for now.
Hmm... yeah, okay maybe I'll go with the latter. Maybe the dwarves in Kelvin's Cairn could gift Baldrick with a suitable weapon? (He's currently using a warhammer, but as a Barbarian, he can use anything.)
@Netzer: Want to help Baldrick train in the art of getting angry? :D
Aeshuura |
@Greycastle, did you have more to wrap up?
@At everyone, you can go ahead and do the leveling thing. I do not foresee any more combat until I run, but the actual leveling will not take place until Grey is done wrapping up and I will offer a weeklong DT montage of training and such.
Nezter "Spleenripper" |
I will use my old drill sgt skills and kick you in the shin followed by a brisk kick to the jublies and a hundred push ups in the rain. If you aren't angry after that, well I will just break out the tweezers for the Sgt Majors lawn ...
Aeshuura |
@Baldy, I can work something in for you with the dwarves of Kelvin's Cairn.
