Sorry Quince hasn't been getting update notices on Gameplay.

Lykàn Delĩss |

Yeah that happens. The Game goes silent and you wonder why until you check and realize that the game thread shut you out.

GM Wolf |

Get ready to level up to 7! Assuming you rest and dont go looking for a fight you can level up.
The next steps are a bit over arching. Grand steps: What are you going to do now? Retreat and recover, pilfer, or explore?
I finally have some time to make those spoilers for information on what you see. That will be up soon.

Quince Medvyed |

whoops should have red gameplay first.

Lykàn Delĩss |

Happy Birthday Wolf!

Quince Medvyed |

Happy Birthday!!!

Quince Medvyed |

We've sort of let St. John fade from focus. If he is becoming an NPC I assume that his lack of contribution in the last fight was "guarding" Lykan. Quince would of course extend the offer of treasure to St. John. For the sake of the players what treasure he does get I assume would be after the players have picked.
If we are handling a different way that is fine too.

GM Wolf |

Thank you!
St. JOHN is an NPC until the player returns, which now looks like never. Yeah he stood back and guarded Lykan. He might pick something but I am not sure what he would want. I will probably have him fade into the world and take some coin for his trouble.
Jezebel could be turned to join you but that is only if someone works on her/interacts with her.

Quince Medvyed |

Are we aware of any natural hatred between Earth and Fire kin.

Lykàn Delĩss |

Treasures
cloak of resistance +3, Cursed
headband of mental prowess (+2 Int, +2 Cha, grants ranks in Knowledge [planes]), Cursed
oculus of Abaddon:
portable hole,
ring of protection +2,
soul jar:
phylactery (worth 3,500 gp if sold as an art object)
With the phylactery found, you can tell it holds no power, something must have gone wrong and it didn't function properly for its owner. It does not hold the soul of Vordikai.
(1,140 pp, 13,000 gp, and 103,000 sp) and various art objects
altogether worth an additional 19,500 gp. In addition
to the ancient treasures:
a ring of friend shield (the match to the one found in the
village),
a ring of protection +2,
a cloak of resistance +1,
gloves of swimming and climbing,
a pouch holding three packets of dust of dryness, and
a +1 cold iron magical beast bane flail.
Of course, the bulk of Vordakai’s treasure consists of the
42 soul jars.
The preserved knowledge of ancient Casmaron is contained in dozens of stone tablets weighing nearly 1,000 pounds in all—but the tablets are worth 10,000 gp to a scholar of this ancient land. In addition, while many of Vordakai’s spellbooks have crumbled, enough fragments remain
here to please any wizard.
Many of the tablets hold spells that you could copy from including:
The walls of this dome-ceilinged room are filled with stone
niches, each bearing a number of strangely shaped glass jars.
Each jar is about a foot tall, is stoppered with a clot of black wax,
and contains a swirling plume of glowing white smoke—there
are dozens of these jars on display, and the swirling light each
emits gives this chamber an otherworldly feel.
What kind of curse is on the items, do we know?

Sulvanii |

They both have: Can only be worn by an evil cyclops. You could pay for these to be removed 1/5th of the price of the item.
"If somebody wants the items I can remove them in a week, maybe two."

Quince Medvyed |

I am going to shift here to start dealing with kingdom stats and land acquiring. I will need to go back and verify with GM wolf which Hexes we have fully explored vs ones we traveled through.
You said in Gameplay that two hexes around Varnhold is the land that Varnhold controls. That means if we have not explored Hex N22 on the Nomen Heights Map we will need to do so before we can claim Varnhold.

Quince Medvyed |

Alright looking back over September of 2021 posts we visited the Linnorm Skull and fought some birds. We were riding at exploring speed. So in addition to the lands around Varnhold we have explored. N41 on the Nomen Heights.
We went to the Valley of the Dead N55 that's where we found the undead cyclops and then the entrance to the tomb. Is that all N55. Are we considering N55 "explored?"

Quince Medvyed |

Yeah I know we made a B line for it. I that makes sense.
Is that also where Vordaki's Tomb was?

Lykàn Delĩss |

So we need to explore that hex then I'm guessing.

Quince Medvyed |

Well Hex N22 is between the lands of the Greenwatch the existing kingdom and Varnhold. Once we explore that hex we can claim Varnhold and the lands connected to it and add a significant bit of land and a new city.
N55 is one of many hexes that exploring will turn up trouble but also uncover resources that once explored are hexes that we can claim and add to the Kingdom.

Quince Medvyed |

Now that we are out of the Tomb and back in the town. There are only three players and the DM. I wonder is it time to consider additional recruitment to round us out?
Especially with the possibility that some folks were just rescued from the soul jars?

Quince Medvyed |

I realized that I made an error in game play. I spoke to Selena as if she was the Magister and not the Mistress of Coin. I had forgotten that we had moved Cleo into that role.
Awesome we get to think about next steps.
Quince will want to explore N22 as soon as possible. Assuming there is not another pressing issue that comes up immediately. N22 is straight to the left of the village of Varnhold on the map. It is the only hex we need to explore and claim to connect the land around Varnhold which has the village and the lands the previous charter holders had already claimed.
Once we have that we can add a city to the kingdom and start building out Varhold Village.
If we are going to set out for N22 we can turn north and explore the hexes southwest of the South Rostland Road N22, N15, N16, N8, and N9. N1 and N2 are there as well but I am not sure if they are part of Brevoy. Assuming they all of those hexes are open to be claimed 3 of those are grasslands which is the cheapest to develop and start farming.
We could certainly go off in other directions if either of you want. That's just the route that delivers quick and cheap land to add to the existing Dutchy and brings us to N22 to quickly claim the 18 hexes around Varnhold.

Quince Medvyed |

With Varnhold comes 18 hexes of the map that were previously explored and claimed by Varnhold.
Here is the updated map with the area Varnhold had previously
N11- Dead Noble Notes from the original Varnhold Expedition say that the body of an unfortunate and foolish man named Tomin Hanvaki, the eldest son of a minor aristocrat who lived in Elkheart, was found dead in a shallow gulch in the foothills here. He had hoped to make it to Varnhold to seal a business deal with that village’s gemcutter, but in his haste to make good time he slipped and fell into this gulch, breaking his fool neck in the process. Tomin still wore a mother of pearl brooch
worth 100 gp, the brooch was returned to his brother Edrist who had been searching for the man.
N18- Ettercap Lair The original Varnhold Expedition notes show they encountered a group of ettercaps that lived within the caves in a rocky crag in this region but the infestation has been dealt with.
N19- Kiravoy Bridge- This simple wooden bridge is a new construction, recently built by the settlers of Varnhold. The bridge itself is sturdy
and well-constructed, but it doesn’t show much evidence of use—it was finished only recently.
Additionally, this hex has already been developed as
farmlands by Varnhold—if the PCs claim this hex as part
of their nation, they automatically gain the benefits of
these farmlands.
N20- Spider Fields In exploring the Greenbelt, the original Varnhold Expedition encountered a giant trap door spider. The borderland between the Dunsward and the Tors of Levenies is infested with such creatures—hairy black and red monsters the size of ponies. The fields here appear strangely barren and are covered with numerous low hummocks of grassy mounds—several of which are in fact the doors to spider lairs. In all, there were six spiders discovered in this area.
N24- Varnhold Pass- The rugged Tors of Levenies dip low here, creating a
natural pass from the east to the west. The Crooked River flows down to the west, cascading out of the mountains just under the pass’s highest elevation of 200 feet, leaving 150-foot-high sheer cliffs to the north and south. A single stone watchtower sits at the top of the pass. It is currently abandoned, albeit with no signs of struggle within. Anyone who climbs to the top of the 30-foot-tall tower can see the village of Varnhold to the southeast on a clear day. The building counts as a watchtower if a city is built in
this area.
N31- Talon Peak- A crumbling tower stands atop a low mountain
here. Known locally as Talon Peak because the jagged
ruins of the tower look almost like a sharp claw protruding
from the peak of the steep mountain. The forces of the original Varnhold Expedition encountered a huge bird called a Roc here.
N33- Culcheck Cave Once the lair of the Culcheck spriggans (the tribe that was discovered squatting in the village of Varnhold), this cave
was their previous lair.
N38- Mud Flats This 3-mile-long, 1,500-foot-wide swath of lakeshore is a stretch of bubbling mud, heated by geothermal activity. The air is thick and muggy. Even though the majority of the mud lies in a low basin shielded from nearby Lake Silverstep by a mere ridge of rock, silt from the mud rarely seeps into the clear waters of the lake. The mud itself is very mineral rich and could be of some value to the Varnhold colony as an export. When discovered the original Varnhold Expedition encountered strange humanoid mud creatures but the elemental kin creatures were defeated.

Quince Medvyed |

Lykan and Dinenen you guys have stuck this out for more than a year. You have been in the mix but prior to now the existing kingdom predated our riding off to Varnhold and rescuing the people.
With the addition of Varnhold if either of you want to contribute to how the city is build please do. Here is the link to the Kingdom Spreadsheet so you can get a feel for where we already are. The Green Watch Wardens has a link to the map from the previous chapter and how the kingdom (Dutchy currently) is laid out. If you have questions I would gladly help catch you guys up.
I bring this all up now because we have reached that point in the adventure where both of your characters have risked yourselves and we were successful so its a natural in character time and out of character I want you guys to have connection to the kingdom too, it is Kingmaker right.
There are a lot of NPCs in a lot of kingdom roles if you are familiar with Kingmaker. Between growing families, dedicating themselves to specific tasks, and so on we can re-arrange things so that we are moving the two of you into positions held by PCs no longer with us and NPCS that were plugged into the mix.

Quince Medvyed |

I think so.
It would be nice to have more folks. Especially when we can bring them in as "Hey look a Soul Jar we didn't open yet."

Quince Medvyed |

More Fun Book Keeping. TREASURE!
Lykan reposted some of this the other day. I didn't see where either Lykan or Dinenen wanted any of the items. They were offered first choice.
I am going to shout questions.

GM Wolf
I am in the process of leveling up.
I am thinking of taking the Nature's Whispers Revelation. Would the bonus to AC from using my Charisma modifier be limited to +4 in the same way my Dexterity is limited by the Max Dex Bonus of my armor?
Currently I have a 23 Dex giving me a +6 Dex bonus. My Elven Chain allows a +4 Max Dex Bonus. If I took Nature's Whispers my 26 Cha would give me a +8 Cha Bonus. If my AC is limited in the same way I would get +4 from either Dex or Cha. If it is ruled different it would raise my AC by +4 because I could use my full modifier.
Nature’s Whispers (Ex): You have become so attuned to the whispers of the natural world, from the croaking of frogs to the groaning of great boulders, that your surroundings constantly keep you preternaturally aware of danger. You may add your Charisma modifier, instead of your Dexterity modifier, to your Armor Class and CMD. Any condition that would cause you to lose your Dexterity modifier to your Armor Class instead causes you to lose your Charisma modifier to your Armor Class.

Quince Medvyed |

Alright I think I am level 7 with the exception of the Nature's Whisper question above.

Quince Medvyed |

Looking back not only did we forget to keep botting St. John but Cleo as well.
Cleo has duties as Magister so her returning to Elkheart and managing duties makes sense.
I don't know what your plans for St. John are. Quietly settling into a role as one of the Reeves under Kevros, or the Guard under Tristan, or a military commission under Saren. Sending him back with Arthur Stavian who looks to be one of Saren's subordinates seems like a good place for him to plug and if he ever needs to come back into play he is around and loyally serving.

GM Wolf |

Ring of friend shield (the match to the one found in the village) Did we find the one in the village? 50,000gp for the pair if we did.
I think someone did, but that player is no longer with us. So yes you have two rings of friendship!
Cleo went home with Sulvanii.
Excellent idea Quince, yes St. John will be heading back to be apart of the military or guard.

GM Wolf |

Nature's Whispers Revelation:
Any condition that would cause you to lose your Dexterity modifier to your Armor Class instead causes you to lose your Charisma modifier to your Armor Class.
So I would say that the armor would stifle the Cha because of the wording above.
It still sounds like a nice revelation, it just means you need new armor!
---
Nephilim
Masterwork breastplate
+1 longsword- 2,000gp
4 masterwork spears- 302gp each
Black leather bag with gold trim- Within you find coins, gems, and other objects of precious metals. There is an assortment of golden bands on his arms, legs, fingers, and neck. What's the value on this stuff?
The black leather bag items would sell for about 2,500 gp.
---
Centaur Gifts
6 potions of cure moderate
6 potions of lesser restoration
Coffer of Coins? How much
Coffer of coins: 14 gp, 45 sp, 83 cp.
---
2 Wyverns bodies Where these preserved somehow?
She dragged them then cut them up and put them in a bag of holding. Technically not preserved.
---
+3 Greatsword stamped with the Issian coat-of-arms- 18,000gp is this Maegar Varn's sword?
Oculus of Abaddon Slated for Destruction is this easily done. Do we need to research a way to destroy it.
Yes you are pretty sure that is Maegar Varn's sword. You did wonderful on the check and know how to destroy it. Blind angel smash it.... summon an angel, offer to blind it, it destroy the item, then remove the blindness.

Quince Medvyed |

Should we make the assumption for equipment needs and RP time to handle all the sorts of logistics stuff that we wait until the Curse is removed from the Cloak of Protection +3 and the Headband of Mental Prowess if someone wants to claim it.
Or
Do we want to jump on the exploration and a Cloak of Protection +3 will be around.
Wish tip*** if you have some remaining. A single wish can get you a +5 Cloak of Resistance.

Dinenen |

Sorry. Was playing Santa, then came down with COVID. Coherent enough for simple posts again. Had to sit out the last 5 days of the season in isolation. Yep. Includes today.
Not been counting wishes.
IIRC, the Monk's robes with acidic attack was a wish. I believe you gifted everyone Cloaks of +5 when we got here.
I am currently wearing a Ring of Protection +1, so one of the Ring of Protection +2 and maybe the Ring of Freedom of Movement?
Not much on that loot list that works well for a Monk. Never is, usually. <grin>
Level to 7? Gets me Evangelist Level 2 and Monk abilities of Level 6 (part of the Evangelist class level). Need to go through that.
83 gameplay messages I haven't read, yet.
Dinenen's thoughts towards improvements would include a monastery where the monks care for a library. Of course.

![]() |
Merry Christmas to all of you!!!
I'll have to slowly look through and see how Lykan would be looking at the items.
Currently Lykan has shifter's headband +4 and Amulet of natural fists +2. Would come in very useful for him later.
Looking through his gear, I'll ask for some of the free items once I see some of them that Lykan can use.
As for kingmaker itself. I'm fine with it being in the Undead Version of it in Wolf's other game. Lykan is more of outdoor type then an indoor officer though.

Dinenen |

Assuming I am allowed both rings, I will have a Ring of Protection +1 as excess to drop into the pile.
I am assuming both rings and the Holy Amult of Mighty Fists as I do the level-up on the character.

Dinenen |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

And implementing those assumptions, I have completed Dinenen's leveling to 7.
He can now perform a standing vertical leap of 7' without significant effort, or a die roll, and of 12' by spending a Ki point without needing to roll a die. A standing horizontal jump of 28' without significant effort or die roll, and 48' by spending a Ki point without a die roll. In both cases, I am assuming a die value of 0, BTW.
And he gained his first iterative attack.
One more game I haven't looked at yet, on the forum, anyway.

Sorry to hear you got the rona! I am glad you are feeling better, what symptoms do you have left?
Dinenen you have one more wish if you want it.
We need to gestalt you... ohhhh use the wish to know where you can gestalt with Irori!
Take the two rings, Quince add the other ring to the treasury... do we have a Google doc with the loot?

Dinenen |

Sorry to hear you got the rona! I am glad you are feeling better, what symptoms do you have left?
Still some sinus drainage (and thus a mild cough) and minor fatigue, but I was really only hit hard for less than a day. Brain fog is realted ot the sinus stuff, though, a normal complication of sinus pressure, at least in my experience . . ..
Even if vaccination does not equal immunity, it does generally mean you'll have a much easier go of things . . ..
Dinenen you have one more wish if you want it.
We need to gestalt you... ohhhh use the wish to know where you can gestalt with Irori!
Heh! Certain logic to that. Is that one beyond the amulet or instead of it? <wink> More about paperwork than anything else.

We have 2 even before the cursed one that changes your hair color!

Sorry. Work has slowed for me. Christmas break started yesterday at noon. That and there was just a lot of little irons in the fire and so it was a lot of book keeping, questions and small interactions.
Dinenen's thoughts towards improvements would include a monastery where the monks care for a library. Of course.
In Varnhold or do you want to rebuild the ruined tower on Talon Peak. The original Varnhold team that settled the town killed a roc and there is an old tower on top of a mountain.

Your profile has a Ring of Protection +1 so you will want to grab the other +2 we have.

Quince Medvyed |

I believe you gifted everyone Cloaks of +5 when we got here.
Yes I had forgotten. I went back and looked. Sturdy travel clothes and the Cloaks of Resistance +5 were offered.
****Edit
It looks like you took a Cloak of Resistance +5 at the time as well. I didn't see it in your profile.

Dinenen |

I would say it looks like GM Wolf wants me to do it myself on Talon Peak. <grin>
I think I would opt for a split, then, with a dedicated monastery on Talon Peak, which can include a library of the more specialized or concerning texts, and another facility with more standard educational materials, and possibly even classrooms, in Varnhold itself.
Teach the people to read and write. About the world beyond their farms and shops. Additional languages and geography, and more.
