This is the recruitment thread for a run of the Pathfinder Society Quest #6, Archaeology in Aspenthar to be run as part of
Outpost IV.

Official sign-up is here.

Start Date: February 24, 2021.

Game Expectations
I ask for a posting rate of a minimum of once per day during the business week and at least once over the weekend, though I realize (and expect) that real life can get in the way of fun at times and that not all players will be able to meet that pace. I expect folks to occasionally be unavailable for a period of time. If I know that I will be unavailable for some reason for more than 24 hours (or 48 over a weekend), I will post such. I request and expect all players to do the same.

I reserve the right to bot players who do not post anything within a 24 hour period and will request each player have botting instructions in place before the end of the first briefing.

Once you have filled out the sign-in sheet linked above, please provide the following:

PFS:
1) Character name:
2) PFS#-Character#:
3) Character Class & Level:
4) Faction:
4) Day Job with roll (Please note any special boons/notes):

Vigilant Seal

Howdy GM Valen...

Tried to put the info in the spread sheet and it would allow it

1) Character name: Dorian The Hammer Gravendak
2) PFS#-Character#: 1947-2005
3) Character Class & Level: Fighter 2nd
4) Faction: Vigilant Seal
4) Day Job with roll (Please note any special boons/notes):Lore: Warfare +3

Player sign-ups begin January 29, 2021 per the Outpost link above, which likely accounts for the inability to sign up at present.

I will go by the official list for sign-ups for seat assignments. If you are able to join this table pursuant to Outpost rules when the time comes, I look forward to sharing this table with you.

Looks still open. Let me know; I'd like to join. Thanks!

Hi everyone. I'm eager to join. I don't have a character yet because I'm waiting for my core rule book to arrive tomorrow . I think this works out because I can now create a character based off what the crew needs. I was wanting to choose a dwarf, any suggestions? Btw I've never played pathfinder before.

Horizon Hunters

Welcome aboard!

If you’re going for party balance, we’ve got melee/tanking squared away, so feel free to pick anything else.

I am fine waiting a few more days to begin. (If that presents any issue for anyone else (for instance the PC is slated for an upcoming game, etc.), please let me know here on via PM). Likewise, if someone would like us to complete the quest by a certain date, please let me know and I will do my best to accommodate.

As for what to play, my suggestion is to play whatever you want. Truly. The point is to have fun, so play what you think will be fun.

Party balance certainly provides its benefits and can be fun as scenarios are designed to highlight different skills throughout, so that each PC has a chance to shine. However, for a short quest like this, party balance usually isn't as impactful. Generally, quests tend to lean heavily on combat so if you chose to go with a party of just melee/tank characters you should still do just fine.

Again, welcome to the game. I'm happy to answer any questions I can about character creation and game play (although you can often get a quicker and better answer from others on these forums).

I am one of the Venture Officers for the online PbP region for Organized Play. If you are interested in sharing, I'd love to know how you learned about us.

Everyone who has posted above thus far has a seat.

Looks like we have:

Dorian 'The Hammer' Gravendak
Simi Lalai
Zoosh Glábaglá
Jorgen_Dwarf's PC
Hyphend's PC

We have a legal table with room for one more, although we can go just fine (and probably a little faster) with the five we have.

I'll take the 6th spot if you'll have me.

PFS:
1) Character name: Faethor Silverbrow
2) PFS#-Character#: 170784-2002
3) Character Class & Level: Sorcerer 1
4) Faction: Vigilant Seal
4) Day Job with roll: Herbalism Lore +3

We have a full table!

I got wind of Pathfinder by total chance actually. I was taking a virtual class and my instructor was screensharing slides from his computer. There was an icon for pathbuilder that peaked my interest so i looked up what pathbuilder was. That is how i randomly came across Pathfinder.

Hi @ GM Valen, I know you said the table is closed. but i have to ask out of respect for my cousin. My cousin wants to know if he could play, but he's got a sick and twisted mind so he might say some wild rated R stuff. Also what is your and most other GMs stance on saying rated R things.

[s]Short answer:[/b] I cannot go over the 6 player table limit for this quest. I cannot and will not permit "rated R" content at this table.

Longer answer: One of the great things about RPGs in general is that they allow you to create and interact in all kinds of diverse worlds. When you are playing at home with a group of good friends, the possibilities are limitless and the number of players is governed only by how comfortable the players feel.

If a home game wants to explore "rated R" content in a roleplaying game, there are rules sets and systems that allow for that and such games can certainly be fun and engaging.

Due to their nature, games in Organized Play, like this one, are more restrictive.

In Organized Play games, such as this one and those held in these forums, there is a table limit for games and for Pathfinder Society, the limit is six players.

Further, in Organized Play games, there is a set of Community Guidelines that all players are expected to follow. Failure to do so will result in a player being banned, for a time or permanently, from participating in Organized Play. Organized Play is open to, and presumably played by, people of all ages, backgrounds, and social strata. It is an international organization with players from around the world. Thus, content and player conduct in Organized Play for Pathfinder Society is limited as to be mindful and respectful to the diversity of its players. It content has generally been described as "PG-13" or less as far as a "rating". As a Venture Officer for Organized Play, one of my duties is to see that the community standards are being adhered to.

Along as he or she agrees to abide by the community standards for Organized Play, your cousin in welcome to join any Pathfinder Society table that has room.

PbP Scenarios are frequently advertised on the same forum that this game was and, I believe, the community here is quite receptive and helpful to new players at their tables.

FWIW, PbP allows you to edit yourself, and not just blurt out something problematic.

Gotcha, thank you for clearing that up

Vigilant Seal

@Hyphend

Since you are new, I have a question that may be helpful for you. Have you registered for Society play?

I have a Organize play ID. The character that I'm making rn isn't ready so i have not registered him for society play yet.

I'm currently on the process of choosing spells for my sorcerer. I'm sorry but this is the first time making a character and i've been doing a lot of flipping pages back and forth then trying to understand putting my bloodline parameters on the character sheet

Vigilant Seal

No apologies needed, just checking.

Looks like you already know about pathbuilder but another thing that can save you from flipping to much is that pretty much all the rules are also on The Archives of Nethys. The only tricky thing there is that it is all the rules and you're only allowed to use rules from stuff you own. It does say which thing is from which book, you just have to be sure to look.

I honestly should've been using the pathbuilder from the get go, but i didn't think about it. Was too excited about getting to use the core book for the first time. I'm now on step 8: buying equipment. I plan on getting that done by the end of the night

Do you have an estimate as to when you'll have your PC complete and registered?

GM Valen wrote:

I just finished a couple minutes ago. I was watching VC Tyranuis video on transfering a character from a character sheet to society play.

I wanted to know from you how you prefered I transferred a character.

What is the day job with roll? I'm about to post

Hyphend wrote:

"Day Job" is a relic from first edition Pathfinder Society. It is an Earn Income roll for Downtime.

Verdant Wheel

1) Character name: Gromfur
2) PFS#-Character#: 2392413-2002
3) Character Class & Level: Sorcerer 1
4) Faction: Verdant Wheel
4) Day Job with roll: Games/Dwarven Lore +4

Gromfur is my character, before i can fully commit to the day job posted. I have a 5 in the skills of Deception, Intimidation, Nature and Religion. Are there any jobs i can select with those or am i stuck with the Games lore from my gambler background or dwarven lore from my ancestor feat

Your options are Crafting, Lore or Performance

Yeah that's the broad options i keep coming across, for example how did you get your scout lore? remember i'm new so if anyone can point me to a list of what i can choose that would be appreciated

if anything i'll just go with what i posted

Vigilant Seal

You can choose just about any kind of lore, craft, or performance to train as one of the skills you get to train. There's no mechanical benefit of any of them over another though, or at least, not for the day job. Sailing Lore might help you in a water scenario or something. If you imagine your dude making money by singing go ahead and get perform sing (or something else along those lines). Otherwise you might as well stick with the free one

Alright thanks everyone.

I am ready GM Valen!

Here is a helpful template for information to place in the headers of your PC's Profile page, so they will appear with your posts in the Gameplay thread (keeps the GM and players from having to go back and look up as much from the character sheet). Just be sure to eliminate the space before the first set of brackets " ]" so that the coding appears as intended:

In Headers:
Race: note the space at the start, very important to leave it in
| HP 10/10 | AC 15 | [ooc ] F +3 R +5 W +0 (+2 vs. enchantments, immune to sleep)[/ooc] | [ooc ]Perc +6 | Default Exploration (Searching)[/ooc]

Classes / levels: note the space at the start, very important to leave it in
| Speed 30ft | [ooc ]Bomb 7/7[/ooc] | [ooc ]Active Conditions: None[/ooc]

Gender:
[b ]”Damiel”[/b] | [ooc ]Male N Medium Elf Alchemist 1[/ooc]

Awesome, I'll get on that

Horizon Hunters

Are you all still short a player? This is a new character, but if you are still in need of a party member, I could join in.

All seats at the table have been claimed. In the interest of fairness, I've put out a final request for them to claim their seats. If they do not respond in time, I am happy to have you join us.

Still no word from Jorgen_Dwarf, so Bogard is in.

Here's the actual dayjob roll

Workin' for a livin': 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16

Earned Income Rolls

Faethor, Herbalism: 16
Dorian The Hammer Gravendak, Lore: Warfare: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
Zoosh Glábaglá, Scouting Lore: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
Gromfur, Games Lore: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Boggard Silverstone, Desert Lore: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Hamir Crookfeather, Underworld Lore: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12

Only one success!?! The Random Dice Generator remains cruel to this party to the end!
