We can sympathize, it's been above 30C here (close to 40) all week and super muggy. Fortunately it's been cooling down to below 20 at night so we've been getting some relief. Hope you guys aren't in store for another heat dome.
Ugh, you win, at least it isn't super muggy here. But considering we didn't have temps above 15 until end of June, it's been a rough awakening. Going straight from Junuary to July. Climate change, what a ride!

Well, I'm not going to start another rant against 5ed, since some of you have heard that more than once already ;^)
FP2ed I haven't tried, but I did buy the PHB and had a bit of a read a while back. Tons and tons of character develpoment options, and pretty much every level gives you some new power from somewhere, so no boring dead levels where only numbers go up. Had me sold at that.
Hope the weather cools for you soon... Finland seemed to survive the summer with one +30C week, something that made me rather happy. Last year, we had over 60 hot days (urgh).
And as for resting... if casters are out of spells for the day, it certainly makes sense (as if there are more battles it can get boring to just toss rocks at the enemies). I have learned to punish my players for trying to trivialize a series of moderate encounters designed to slowly bleed the party of cooldowns to make future encounters harder than their challenge rate suggests by just "resetting" after every closed door or chokepoint they get to. If you are OK with it, then by all means let's.

Cairee Featherfriend |

Just to be clear… Cairee wanted to drag the flind bodies close to the campfire… that wouldn’t be the same campfire we are thinking of sleeping around? Because that doesn’t sound particularly hygienic, even by medieval standards ;^)
Cairee isn't thinking about that, but if tymythy wants to redirect her, she'll listen.

Tymythy-son-of-Stywyrt |

So far he doesn't know what you intend, but I doubt any of us would be thrilled about sleeping next to a bunch of dead bodies. So either we move them again after Cairee is done with her rituals or we set us a new campfire for our use.

Zahra al Asmar |

Zahra, you wiener - you have the highest STR of the women, and tied with Tymythy! Poor old Dounia only has an 8.
Nothing about Zahra's life prepared her for any kind of manual labour. Makes sense to me that she would be pretty useless at it :)

Fair, but she's still a wiener.

Cool intrigue intermission! How far ahead did you have all that planned? From the beginning, when Cyra was tossed in the pit? Or not until we decided on rescue? Or later? I find the planning process so interesting.
I'm not sure how much to reveal about my process. I think I can say safely that I have certain ideas on tracks but how they get ironed out has a lot to do with how you all interact with them. When you were building characters and gave me relationships and NPCs to deal with I created story lines. I drop some things as you each show a disinterest, change some things depending on the flavour you give to your worlds, and find some things change as I get more creative or run into plot holes I hadn't realized would be there.
Mostly, though, I look for openings to get the story lines to advance.
I also want to have a good line between you all having a world that interacts with you - without feeding 'protagonist syndrome'. To that end I hope to create a place that keeps changing when you aren't in the room.

Zahra al Asmar |

I loved that part of your Eberron game! I knew I had to incorporate (steal) it. I've also seen it used to great effect in some live online roleplaying channels/posts.
I was thinking the same thing and really liked that you incorporated it here too! It adds such depth. Well done :)

Cairee Featherfriend |

Cairee performed a basic scan of the door so if someone wants to check for traps again you're going to have to give me a specific thing you're looking for.
Sorry, I meant that Cairee did a quick look around the area for another Flind-like trap, and not seeing anything she studied the door for religious significance. She wasn't studying the door for traps.

... Like the Indiana Jones wibes ;^) ...
In Raiders of the Lost Ark when Indy is at college and there is a chalk drawing of a burial site, that drawing has heavily influenced the way I drew this map.
I remember when I was a new teenager and we were playing D&D out of the red box set with the Larry Elmore cover. We never went anywhere. It was dungeon crawl after dungeon crawl. And dungeons were excuses for rooms and rooms were excuses for monsters.
We've come a long way and part of that is Lucas and Speilberg's fault ;)
... chambers or cysts ...
How long was that girl holding her eyes open for as she walked down the school halls? Was this her first class of the day???

GM Corey Homebrew |

Sorry, I missed the part where you said you moved into the room. I thought you were looking from the doorway.
Tymythy and the boulder are 100' away. It will take round 1 to get near the post in the centre of the room and another move to get to the boulder so you're there at the end of round 2 to assist Tymythy with a second strength check.

GM Corey Homebrew |

-35C is starting to get nasty (we do get that in Finland most of “real” winters)… at least there is no wind to add to the chill.
And now that most of the moisture in the room is frozen it is quite dry.
I was is Winnipeg one winter to visit friends and had the honour of experiencing some of their weather. It was -37. I wished I had one of those flute hooded parkas. The moisture in my breath was freezing on my face. Oddly enough, they hit +35 in summer.

Tymythy-son-of-Stywyrt |

I think the coldest it has been where I have lived was -43C... was fun taking a 20min walk in the morning to the university :-) And yeah, the same place can get +30-something on a really hot summer.

GM Corey Homebrew |

If you stay in the room for a minute or more (10 rounds +) you will automatically take lethal frost damage, have to make a fortitude save vs cold or take more non-lethal damage and be treated as 'fatigued'. You do not have the 'fatigued condition'.
The rule states:"A character who takes any nonlethal damage from cold or exposure is beset by frostbite or hypothermia (treat her as fatigued). These penalties end when the character recovers the nonlethal damage she took from the cold and exposure."
No matter how long you are inside the room for, it will take 15 mins to warm up again in the cave. You must be 60' or more into the cave to do this making it impossible to examine anything inside with detail while recovering.
You can have as many people as you like to help move the boulder.
The pillar is wooden and seems immobile. The coin is attached to the pillar and seems very difficult to break off. It qualifies as a magic trap for rogue's disable device checks. Touching the medallion will result in an ice surge causing 1d10hpd, no save.

Cairee Featherfriend |

I forgot to use Cairee's bless - well, Zahra, you still have it to use later. And a first time success, so no need for a second 'protection from evil' roll vs compulsion spells.
Just to clarify, cairee cast guidance on zahra and tymythy. She hasn't cast bless or protection from evil on anyone, but is ready to us needed.

It didn't occur to me that you could cast 'Protection from Evil' after the effect took place but the wording of the spell works for compulsion effects. Nice.

Things are going to be very busy through Wednesday. I may not be able to check posts and advance the game. If you step into the room Cairee and Tymythy, please give me a will save vs DC16 (mind effecting, enchantment, compulsion effect).
The locks on the six gates are good (DC25 to pick) but they're also ancient (miss the DC by 5 and the lock breaks, becoming unpickable). Dounia - I think your disable device is one point higher. You get 1/2 your lvl (round down) finding traps and disarming devices

GM Corey Homebrew |

I have added a new link at the top of the screen. It's called 'Known Power Groups' and has a chart of thieves guilds and magic orders that you have met so far >:]

GM Corey Homebrew |

We are in a bit of a strange place here.
Tymythy is down and it looks like he might be asleep. I'm waiting for posts from Cairee and Dounia before I advance what's happening to him.
Zahra is taking a while to mend and read the book. Timing is a little weird but she can make her next move as well.
Mostly, Cairee and Dounia are up.
