Well, assuming the second climb roll to blaze an easy trail works... if the mast cannot be climed without tools (no rigging that isn't cobweb delicate, no hand/footholds along the mast itself) we'll have to figure out something more creative. Perhaps to do with the scaffolding...

Does this count as Tymythy's turn? Or does the turn need to do something to include all 4 of us?

I think one person rolls each challenge and that we're dealing with challenges instead of rounds. How well you roll indicates how quickly the team gets through that challenge and how far along you are when all is done. A challenge will probably be several rounds long.

I'd like your posts to describe how you're helping everyone get through. Tymythy's 'picking the shortest safe route' is good. Remember to try to make your post about the team.

After the fourth challenge (or sixth if you go back for the chest) I'll have you all roll with whatever bonuses or minuses you've accrued through the challenges.

If you fail a bunch of rolls then you're going very slowly an are going to have a hard time with the final escape. If you succeed a bunch of rolls then you are out ahead of most of the trouble.

In short:
- I declare the challenge (i.e. climb out of the pit).
- one person makes a roll and describes how they're helping the team get out.
- I will assign a DC and a bonus or penalty is recorded (I'm going to call this the 'Rolling Boulder Rating' or RBR).
- At the end of the four challenges everyone will make an escape roll modified by the pluses or minuses you've earned. You'll need three out of four successes (or above average) to avoid horrible consequences.

Right, someone else's turn! I assume Dounia wants down, now that Cairee even healed the worst of her hurts, so she has more chances of doing these rolls? Although if you want to piggybag a while longer, Tymythy won't mind :^)

@Corey your last post says we're leaning against a wall but also in the centre of the room. I'm confused :)

male (he/him/they/them)

Sorry, you're leaning against the eastern wall and standing on the ledge. You are at the centre of the wall, halfway to the spell lock door.

Human Ranger 2 / Fighter 1 | HP: 29/29 | AC: 17 (13 Tch, 14 Fl) | CMD: 16 | F: +7 R: +5 W: +1 | Init: +3 | Perc: +7 SM: +1 |

All right, tried to reread older posts and I'm still confused. What was this chest about? Was that one of the things Dounia looted from the swarm room and Tymythy hauled up? I thought Zahra took an action to empty its content into her bag of holding before we all went down? Was there some really, really sweet loot that didn't fit in her bag that got left behind?

male (he/him/they/them)

The chest had a difficult lock on it and couldn't be opened. It was left at the top of the well that went down to the loot room.

Human Ranger 2 / Fighter 1 | HP: 29/29 | AC: 17 (13 Tch, 14 Fl) | CMD: 16 | F: +7 R: +5 W: +1 | Init: +3 | Perc: +7 SM: +1 |

Ok, the same box I was thinking but it is still locked. Gotcha. Well, going back there might force us to face the swarm again (unless the way was blocked completely, it could have gone back home via small crevices), on top of risking us all dying here by making our escape a lot slower. If it's just loot (and not particularly cool special loot!) we might just want to leave it behind.

Does any of us know it was left behind except Zahra?

HP 23/24 | AC 16/14/12 | F+3/R+4/W+2 | CMB 0, CMD 14 | Init +6, Perc +7, Stealth +10, SM +1, Survival +8

Sorry for the delay, I have Sarah here with me and it's hard to tear myself away from her presence to post. :)

Also, I feel bad for Tymythy, who seems to be having to manage one hysterical, weeping woman after another!

As I understand the layout of this place, the chest is on the same level that we are. We'd need to go back through the rooms with the small chambers, then back to the room where we fought the guardians, and it should be on the edge of the hole there. The beetles didn't come up before, so hopefully they're not there now.

However, if we run back for the chest, the door closes. So no matter what, we need to get to the door and either have one person hold it, or prop it open again.

I think I'll post, having Dounia itemize what we have, so that somebody can point out the chest is behind. Then we can decide if we're going back for it. (Dounia will vote yes).

male (he/him/they/them)

You are all through the spell locked gate. You have the long cave to get through to get to open air and safety. You've had three successes and one fail so your Rolling Boulder Ratio is (+2 +2 +2 -2 =) +4. I want you all to make an escape roll. This could be a: reflex saving throw, escape artist skill check, or knowledge dungeoneering skill check (or give me a case for a check of another kind). The DC is 15 and you get your RBR bonus of +4.

Everyone please write a segment of the escape and leave the end of your post open-ended so the next person to post can tack theirs on. I will write the final part. If you succeed in your roll write that the team is doing well. If you fail write how badly it is going for the team. Whether or not you get out to freedom is based on how many successes you get.

I will reveal that in my post.

Don't forget to have fun with it.

I checked the posts and it said there was only one gameplay post - I read Zahra's and thought that was that. Missed Tymythy's post - last on the previous page.

Cairee's discussion post alerted me that I'd missed it!

Damn if I don't agree with her. Perfect choice Tymythy.

Thanks :)

It's also the commemoration of the explosion in Halifax Harbour. If you're not familiar, the French cargo ship SS Mont-blanc collided with the Norwegian SS Imo. The Mont-blanc carried high-explosives and the resulting explosion is estimated to have been equal to nearly three kilotons of TNT. It was the largest explosion of its' time (later to be surmounted by Hiroshima and Nagasaki).

Yes, one of the defining moments of my home town is that we once accidentally blew ourselves up real good.

Shortly after, a blizzard hit the area. After that the world was ravaged by Spanish Flu.

As part of the Maritime Museum in Halifax we commemorate the morning with a sounding of the horns and bells from CSS Acadia, the only vessel to still be afloat from that incident - and part of the collection of the museum. The sounding is accompanied by vessels in the harbour and bells from local churches.

In Finland? Nothing much, really, except it being a national holiday. Certainly nothing in the US of A level of patriotic muscle flexing... a small military parade, president's reception (most people consider it a duty of sorts to watch a bit of that from the telly), visits to war memorials... for the average citizen, it's a day to relax, maybe eat a slightly fancier dinner at home ;^)

Oh, and a chance for some silly buggers to protest about this and that, since today they get the most media visibility for their cause. Not that most people care one way or the other.

Cairee was about to say more, but something about Dounia's comment to the coin caught her attention. My beauty? Was this just her young friend's usual obsession with possessions? Or was there something else at play? Was she under some lingering magical effect cast upon her in the caves?

Dounia - Cairee's roll is very good. Are you hiding anything? You're post implies that you are being discrete but not wilfully deceitful. In which case I would set the difficulty as a 'take 10' giving you a 16 bluff for your inscrutability. If you think you are 'trying to hide something' with more conscious effort, please make a bluff roll.

Nothing to hide, Dounia's an open book. No magical effects. She just really likes the medallion. Like, a lot. But it's just her natural greed. I think.

Hey Corey, what kind of rolls can Dounia do to be helpful? You gave me the value of most items, so I assume I don't need to officially appraise them. Is there anything crunchy that needs rolling, or shall I just write up some fluff?

The only things you haven't 'appraised' are: the ring of Bar Ku'bara'sigi, the spear of Bar Ku'bara'sigi, and the shield of Bar Ku'bara'sigi.

Knowledge History would be helpful to identify what kind of weapon the spear thing is.

Knowledge Nobility might identify something about the symbol on the ring.

Knowledge Arcana might identify something about the shield.

male (he/him/they/them)

This is what Tymythy can tell by examining the spear without any rolls:

Weapon group: spears or great blades
Weapon type: two-handed melee
Cost: ? (give me an appraise skill check)
Damage: 1d10
Crit: 19-20/x2
Range: 10'
Weight: 7lbs
Type: piercing

Special: This weapon can be used to do slashing damage if the wielder is proficient in Martial weapons (it can be used like a greatsword). Take the weapon as an exotic proficiency and unlock other special traits.

Human Ranger 2 / Fighter 1 | HP: 29/29 | AC: 17 (13 Tch, 14 Fl) | CMD: 16 | F: +7 R: +5 W: +1 | Init: +3 | Perc: +7 SM: +1 |

So, that all as a martial weapon, and some extra options if I can spare exotic proficiency feat? Sounds spicy, I like it ;^)

I assume range here was meant to be reach, as the thing sounds a bit heavy to be tossed around as a javelin?

It is the thrown range and does not have reach. It's only a pound heavier than a spear and has half its' range.

I was writing a monster post and lost it. Ill try again tonight.

YEs, the brass plate was in your possession with the slabs and I have put it in my description.

Please note, anything you've detected magic on you can try to identify using spellcraft. The DC is 16 or higher depending on the item.

So the spear might look a bit like this? Or perhaps with more mass to the blade, along these lines?

I had missed the sentence about the brass plate in your description so thanks for redirecting me. I was thinking in terms of a plate you eat off of so it had missed that it was part of what I assume is a scabbard.

Everyone gets 3HPs overnight (Cairee said she was checking everyone out. She can make a heal: long term care check DC15 for each of the others to double that)

Dounia and Zahra regain one str (cannot be increased by long term care).
