[Non-PFS] [3PP Class Only] Shadowed Keep on the Borderlands (Inactive)

I believe a bath is 6 cp for fresh hot water. I don't believe inns/taverns typically had them in the rooms, though, so this is probably more for a common bathing area...

Giving an apologetic curtsy over to Bleja and Maban, the Young Kunoichi Lass says, "You have our utmost apologies for entering your premises in such an unruly state, milady Bleja- if you could find it in your heart to allow Reithic here to clean himself up a bit; we recently freed him from some... less than ideal circumstances; I'm sure that we can come up with some kind of remuneration for all of the troubles."

Bleja harrumphs as she starts to calm down, "Very well, we can have someone start to fill the tub for the poor man. But you'd best be taking that thing to the Hold right away. They'll be willing to put it down for you."

Kerensa's Hold is location 3.

Randall wipes some sweat from his brow with the bag of his hand as he steps into the inn. Whoever had planned his patrols had done a pretty good job. He'd been "accidentally" sent too far afield to return home unless he planned to march through the night, and he didn't plan to kill himself just for pride and appearance.

Looks like I came at an interesting time. he thinks, part in exasperation but mostly in amusement as he looks at the gathering of oddballs.

He walks up to the counter. "Need a room, bath, and dinner if you're not full up." he takes another quick glance around the room, noting the dingier than usual occupants. "Looks like you're hosting some bounty hunters tonight?"

He gives the innkeeper a meaningful glance; a chance to signal otherwise if her new guests were of teh unwelcome variety.

A heavily bearded man with a thinning crown looks over from the commotion. "Aye, we can do that. Welcome to the Wolf's Head tavern. Bounty hunters? I don't recall them being bounty hunters... although I'm not sure what they're doing with the green skin other than causing a ruckus. That'll be 2 silver for the room and 5 silver for the meal," answers the proprietor.

"That's fine. Here, keep the change, I don't have anything smaller." he says, and hands him a gold.

He relaxes a bit once the owner gives him an indication that they don't seem to be causing any real trouble.

"I'll take the bath first if you don't mind. I need to be in inspection ready shape when I get back to Olfden tomorrow. As much as possible when I get done with a jog back there anyway."

Andru smiled at the Innkeeper and adjusted the gear he was carrying. Then nodded to Randall You are more than welcome to have it first, Though please do not tarry, we all he motions at his allies Have just returned from harrying a group of Bandits at the Shadowed Keep nearby and rescued poor Reithic here he waves toward the dwarf from imprisonment by the bandits. We all could use a bath as well, Rethic probably more than most. and of course we also need a hot meal and some drink. because Im sure the townsfolk would not be pleased were we to sit down to that covered in blood , grease, soot, noxious fluids and dirt as we are. So I would be quite pleased if you were to make it as fast as you are able. Thank you sir

"Hm, I can't speak as to the "putting down" part. But it may have some useful information. It oddly enough was held captive by bandits. Seems odd no? ...and yes. bath and food is lovely idea for the evening."

Good to know, DM rel20; how big is the common bathing area anyways? I'm guessing there's more than one tub in that area or is there just the one tub for subsequent use? We might be able to convince Randall to share with Reithic at the very least if there's more than one tub available.

Smiling gratefully back over to the [still-tipsy?] taller Astral Deva, Chigao figures that between the four of them (apologies in advance to the former Players of Kurian and Braggi for their usage in-story) going off to the hold, the chances of getting everybody's story straight about how the party came to acquire just such a goblin prisoner would increase in the party's favor, in addition to giving news about the local She-Devil's demise. We may have to bring Reithic back to the Hold after everyone gets cleaned up, fed, and had a good night's sleep at the very least!

Thinking to ask the-just-newly-arrived-to-the-inn Randall if he'd be willing to possibly be open towards sharing some bathing space with Reithic at the very minimum, Chigao is somewhat startled at the gruff Militia-Man's very mention of heading off towards Olfden in the following morn.

Should we be asking him to bring word of us back to our loved ones or guardians back over in Olfden?, the Young Kunoichi Lass ponders as she shares a glance over to Xef, Andru, and Kurian- only to have to suppress a wince once she remembers about Kurian's own father still being missing over there.

"That's right, Zupon; those Bandits just outright imprisoned that Goblin along with Reithic in that cell instead of just killing it and leaving the body to rot by the wayside like they did for its' two brethren. It must know something vital about the Keep but we didn't have the opportunity to question it... as it's still unconscious."

"Your logic seems sound, Chigoa." Xephkiel nods in understanding. "Let's see if we can rouse the goblin and get some answers."

Sense motive on Bleja to see how she'll react to this latest development: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12.

DM rel20, would it be possible for Chigao to cause a minor distraction to keep Bleja from noticing the Goblin still being present inside? Possibly by stepping in front of it, Kurian, and Braggi so that the goblin's not in her immediate sight? Was thinking of a bluff/stealth combo but am open to using some other skills instead. ;)

Classic bluff move: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3.

Now hiding one goblin: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25.

Seeing that Xephkiel is moseying on through and worrying over the various pitchers and drinking containers that's all over about the various occupied dining and bar tables, Chigao gets an inkling of what the slightly tipsy Astral Deva is attempting to find and quickly glances over to consider the present countenance of Bleja before ultimately deciding that keeping the attention of the matronly spouse of the Inn-keep drawn well away from the unconscious Goblin's form would be a wise course of action.

Stepping in front of as much of the goblin as she could cover with her lithe 5'1" frame [which is a bit of a challenge since it is still trussed up and being carried by the much burlier and taller forms of both Braggi and Kurian], Chigao calls out towards Randall's direction, directly addressing the burly Warleader with Wide-Brimmed Hat and Ranseur, "Wait, You with the hat and will be first in line to bathe- did you mention something about heading over to Olfden?"

Finding a pitcher of water is relatively easy. Chigao moves to impede line of sight for Bleja, but seems surprised herself when Xeph just grabs the pitcher and goblin and heads outside. Taking some liberties since no one said they were waking the goblin indoors. Crisis averted, Chigao joins Andru and Zupon as they converse with Randall.

I'm still around . I"m just not entirely certain how to input currently. Lifes a bit hiccupy. I need to reread some bits and bobs

The way I see it, there's mainly 2 threads going on - dealing with the goblin and engaging Randall in conversation, in addition to the goal of ultimately cleaning up and resting I believe. The latter is really up to the players. The former is as well, in case folks want to chat up the goblin before *maybe* taking him over to the barracks.

Thank you for the assist, DM rel20; it prolly have made things worse if we woke the goblin up while it was still inside; we'd have ended up having to look for a new place to stay in town, methinks. ;)

Still half-uncertain if Xef was still feeling tipsy based upon the way that he had been mispronouncing her name while speaking to her, Chigao finds it to be a pleasant surprise when the Astral Deva [plus pitcher in hand], the surly Direlock, and the Ulfen Shield-Slinger all step outside with the captive goblin in tow. It seems that Xephkiel and the others still had the presence of mind to wake it outside. Do any of them know how to speak the goblin tongue though?

Sorry to hear about that rough patch of your own, Zupon; originally thought that it'd be a quick jaunt over to the hold and dropping off the gobbo- possibly even laying claim for the She-Devil and bringing in Reithic to corroborate on that for the very next day- with some of the rest chatting up with Randall but Zupon's Goblin point plus Randall's generosity in sharing the baths plus mention of Olfden went and changed all that... and here we are, LOL. Apologies for the slap-dash change of plans on my end; they seemed like such a good idea at the time.

"Hopefully they didn't mucky the water too much. We've got a few errands to accomplish tonight nd tomorrow."

I was supposed to meet a full squad of the 'Watch out this far but they'd all been mysteriously reassigned to other details when I arrived."

Chigao beams happily at the opportunity to let Master Fisnaeth know that she's alive and well... under the circumstances. As she is mentally going through all of the various ninjitsu 'code-phrases' that her master had taught her to use via memorization, Sergeant Harkness's follow-up question does leave the silvered-trussed [powdered flour, dried blood, and the dirt and grime notwithstanding] Kunoichi Lass nearly speechless in a brief and quiet moment of complete consternation.

When her jumbled train of thoughts recover just enough to catch the gist of both Zupon's follow-up commentary about Olfden and Sergeant Harkness's rueful response to that matter, Chigao suddenly remembers that Reithic, having made his personal request to the party for the use of the bathing facilities here at the inn, is still patiently waiting for his spot at the baths.

She quickly interjects herself into the conversation between Zupon and the good Sergeant with, "We should speak more upon that in detail later at some private area, perhaps outside with the others dealing with wakening that goblin from the Shadowed Keep." with a nod towards Zupon and Andru. "In the meantime, if you'd be willing to allow Reithic here", as she motions towards the waiting Dwarven Merchant in question, "to share the baths with you, it'd be much appreciated all around."

Looking back to Randall, Chigao also further adds in with, "It might take quite a spot of time before we could return back there because of that keep. Some of the others outside with that goblin prisoner... they're also from Olfden- as am I- but I can't speak for what they'd wish to convey or even if they'd wish to; It might not even be their first outing away from ...there, unlike myself.", evincing a self-deprecating brave front of her own. It is home for some of us; some more than others at least. It'll be just a while more but we'll all return back there with those Dwarven maps in hand to Tenho.

Scratching his head, "Yeah at this point we just need to bathe, get food in us and get over with it. Though I don't speak goblin, it probably knows some words. So we might get some information. lets wash and eat then!" Clapping his hands briefly and lightly.

The young scholar trots off to wash up quickly, as his stomach hungers for not rations.

"In the meantime, if you'd be willing to allow Reithic here", as she motions towards the waiting Dwarven Merchant in question, "to share the baths with you, it'd be much appreciated all around."

Reithic has no problems expediting his turn, "After weeks in that decrepit tower, don't be alarmed if I don't come out for awhile. On second thought, maybe check in as that might mean my muscles have finally fatigued." With that, he starts heading up the stairs.

It looks like most of the discussion/to do is still in the party's court...

"I see, of course. I'm in a bit of a hurry myself, but it seems my curiosity is getting the better. If you don't mind my asking you fine folks one last question question, why do you even have a goblin prisoner in the first place? Seems an awful lot of effort given most people would smash a goblin's head in without a second thought."

"Well, first off. I'm not a fan of finding a bandit's prisoner and killing them instead of letting them free." WIth a simple shrug, "Found him in a bandit area, we're investigating under employment. One we rescuedgesturing at Reithic's retreating form one we also rescued but didn't release, given the odditiy of the situation of being captured in the first place. In both cases we're hoping to find out some more infomation"

As he says this it occurs to Zupon that there is no guarantee Reithic won't hop out and escape himself rathe than allowing some questions given the circumstances. But not much to be done

Upon Zupon's emphatic mention about not outright killing off the helpless goblin prisoner, Chigao winces in remembrance about her earlier thoughts of maybe possibly putting that goblin out of its' misery as a 'merciful' gesture and glances furtively away from Zupon with a slightly guilty look upon her face.

Master Naru had always stressed that no Kunoichi Ninja, not even one in training, should ever shy away from doing what's necessary to accomplish the mission... no matter what they might personally feel about performing the task; yet it seemed so gratuitous at the time in extending that form of 'mercy' to a helpless prisoner like that without the expressed wishes of the others within party- let alone, one that was in no condition to be interrogated anyhow. Still, we could've avoided alienating both of the proprietors of the Inn had I chosen to do just that! Would any of its' information- if there are any- be worth it for all the time, trouble and effort that we all went through?

Leaving such unsettling thoughts to herself, Chigao interjects after Zupon had stated his reasoning to the hat-wearing Sergeant, "Admittedly, I never once thought that our gracious hosts would react so badly to seeing one alive, even if unconscious and securely tied as it was. In retrospect, given Reithic's personal... disdain towards it- after having been kept imprisoned together for who knows how long, perhaps it shouldn't have been such a surprise."

Scratching his head, "Yeah at this point we just need to bathe, get food in us and get over with it. Though I don't speak goblin, it probably knows some words. So we might get some information. lets wash and eat then!" Clapping his hands briefly and lightly.

With her mind's eye vividly recalling how the Dwarven Merchant viciously kicked at the goblin's head, interspersed with Sergeant Randall's remarks about folks readily smashing a goblin's head in, the young Kunoichi Lass replies, "I should go and see how the others are doing with the goblin prisoner.", as she gives a slight farewell bow to those still present, Bleja and Maban included, if they're both still nearby.

Apologies to Zupon for placing in his remarks a bit out of their original posting order; Tried to do it in such a way that seemed to make the most sense in sequential order although there still might be some grammatical gaps here and there.

With Reithic and Zupon[?] going upstairs to wash up in the 3 person bathing area, I'm guessing that Randall would be the third to head up there? Andru is currently our only known goblin-speaker though, if he wished to head outside as well? I'm guessing that Xef is still working to wake the goblin, even with his healing magic used up for the day? And would Nathan be watching the goings-on with interest or was assisting with the kitchen? ;)

Well Zupon's kind of tired sharing personal space with folks. But I as a player forgot/didn't realize we were waiting for the goblin to wake up from damage. Zupon can heal it pretty readily if need be. But he'll take a quick cleaning

"Sounds good Chigao, I'll wash up quick and head over as well in a bit. WIth a snack."

Just in case, I was/am waiting for the party to initiate something with the goblin or move forward with the evening. Still waiting for an entry from Nathan, if desired; party "acceptance" of Randall still seems tentative.

"Goblin? Did someone say Goblin?"

Nate's eyes begin to glow, as he presses his right forefinger and middle finger against his temple ... and things start to change.
The air clears ... and smells of a touch or wild spearmint.
The dirt and grime on the floor seems to swirl and eddy ... then disappear.

He raises an eyebrow looking at the mottled crew in front of him:
"I can do that again ... if anyone wants to get personal. Save you a trip upstairs."

Andru was listening tot he conversations and he turned to Randall and he said Did I hear you right? Are you part of the Diamond Legion of Olfden? Do you know Erik Jorgenson? Hes a personal friend of mine. We grew up together. he paused realizing he was talking very fast. He slowed his speech down and said We just got back from taking out a band of bandits. It was...very dangerous. yet...exhilarating. In town for a respite then to return to the Shadowed keep

Not sure on the timing but I"ll just act that Zupon finished cleaning himself up quick. He wasn't planning on soaking

"Yep, lot of bad people. Though less now, but probably still a lot. Job's not done though. But I'm going to go patch up the Goblin. We'll see if he speaks common, or you can come with sir if you're curious. Although it might make some in power angry so your call." Leaving the open invite, the young scholar trots off to catch up Chigao.

The goblin wakes up just as Zupon moves his head abruptly to pour the elixir down his throat. His eyes widen in surprise and terror, choking down most of it while the rest oozes down both sides of it's elongated maw.

It's limbs flailing about, you get the impression it's working as his limbs gain strength and force with each motion.

Eventually he starts to calm down, panic residing.

Not sure on the timing but I"ll just act that Zupon finished cleaning himself up quick. He wasn't planning on soaking

"Yep, lot of bad people. Though less now, but probably still a lot. Job's not done though. But I'm going to go patch up the Goblin. We'll see if he speaks common, or you can come with sir if you're curious. Although it might make some in power angry so your call." Leaving the open invite, the young scholar trots off to catch up Chigao.

Xephkiel cast remove fear on the goblin. "Shhhh. It's okay."

The goblin calms down, slowing to deep breaths. His belly distends with each inhalation, exaggerating his emaciated features. His eyes slowly move about, studying the larger humanoids that surround him.

"Wheke es vars? wheke ade kahl dur si?"

Andru was listening tot he conversations and he turned to Randall and he said Did I hear you right? Are you part of the Diamond Legion of Olfden? Do you know Erik Jorgenson? Hes a personal friend of mine. We grew up together. he paused realizing he was talking very fast. He slowed his speech down and said We just got back from taking out a band of bandits. It was...very dangerous. yet...exhilarating. In town for a respite then to return to the Shadowed keep

Didn't get an answer, so I'll just wing it.

"I know of Jorgensen, and have met him once or twice, but wouldn't say I know him all that well. I'm new to Olfden, reassigned from the capital. They haven't currently settled on a permanent spot for me, so it's hard to say I'm "with" any unit in particular except what they assign me to that day."

Despite his fascination with what's going on at the moment, and interest in these people, he stretches and yawns. "Need to go ahead and get lathered and rinsed before I pass out here in the common room. If any of the rest of you have messages for home, I'd be glad to take them if you can get them to me before I leave."

That said, he heads up to the baths.

In Taldane: "I will let Vars, your captive, know that you have brought him to Swallowfeld. I would like to tell him he is safe, but no one has told ME that yet. I would also like to be able to ask him what you hope to know from him. I will offer him food & water once it is timely."

Vars turns to Nathan, a look of surprise and uncertainty at the goblin speaking pink skin.

"Swallowfeld? nevar heard za et. Es et far from sep tribe? el wheke es spet beardrunt? kahl keep sot farr, dyel?"

That said, he heads up to the baths.

The baths are simple metal tubs, lined up in a simple row inside a room at the far end of the hall. Reithic lies soaking in the middle one, head tilted back and off to one side, eyes closed. Soap film and grime cover the surface of the water. The other two tubs are filled, with a bucket of water next to each with feint wisps of steam dissipating quickly.

Nate's eyes begin to glow, as he presses his right forefinger and middle finger against his temple ... and things start to change.
The air clears ... and smells of a touch or wild spearmint.
The dirt and grime on the floor seems to swirl and eddy ... then disappear.

He raises an eyebrow looking at the mottled crew in front of him:
"I can do that again ... if anyone wants to get personal. Save you a trip upstairs."

Nodding to Zupon as the young Scholar starts heading upstairs for a quick wash, a flamboyantly acting young Half-Elf comes into the general fray and quickly catches the young Kunoichi's attention [and possibly everybody elses' attention for that matter- which was for the best as the party's sole form of compensation to the innkeep was outside with Xef]

Blinking in wordless surprise at the Half-Elf's clearly supernatural capabilities [plus Zupon's parting upstairs comments as he ducks in to clean up real briefly], Chigao answers the odd Half Elf with, "There might be some who would take you up on that... personal cleaning offer later but yes, the Goblin is right outside... right this way...", as she starts guiding him outside the Inn to join up with Xef and the others with the goblin. Surprisingly, Andru himself chose to linger inside a bit longer, seemingly engrossed in discussion with Sgt. Randall. I suppose that's one of us with a message to give to Randall when he goes to Olfden. Not long after, Zupon makes his appearance outside to help wake the goblin up.

Keeping a respectful distance while the Half-Elf is interrogating the goblin, Chigao quietly informs the others about Randall's offer to bring word back to their loved ones in Olfden [it was a bit awkward in Kurian's case but Chigao decided that letting that offer stay open was for the best]. Naturally, the young Kunoichi was trying to discreetly follow all the interrogation, one sided as it was, that was within her earshot, just as she was trained to do by her Master.

When was the last time someone fed the goblin? Bread & Water might be appropriate; he also might not like bread ...

Well he's a prisoner, who cares what he "likes"? I'm pretty sure he doesn't like being held captive either lol. Besides...who doesn't like bread? He's a goblin, not Antinium.

Randall sighs a bit as he sinks into the tub, luxuriates for a few moments, then reluctantly does a quick lather and rinse before getting out. He gives his tabard a quick scrub too, as well as giving his armor a once-over for any rust or stains, then hangs it up before heading down for some grub.

No way of knowing last feeding. They were KO'd when we found them beaten in a cell. Is a prisoner but Zupon's fine and has previously expressed they'd be fine if it ran off if it gave them something useful for whats to come.

"Vars are you hungry? I am ..."

"Hey! I know. I'll get you both some dinner. Be right back." The tall humanoid smiles at both goblin and half-elf and goes to order something good from the inn's kitchen.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
Xephkiel is willing to pay several silvers for both dinners if he can.

"Hey Vars, I am not even sure if you understand longshank speech at all, but our companion just said he will go to get us some food! Nate smiles without showing his teeth,"... are you okay? You need to be healed at all? Could you tell me what happened a little? I know you and the dwarf were not friends, but something happened for you both to get caught. Maybe we can go after whoever did it to you both, keep the tribe safer ..."

Was unable to clarify things during my last posting about Chigao telling the others outside about Sergeant [Randall] Harkness but it was mainly to both Xef and Kurian, about his willingness to relay any messages to loved ones in town- including a generalized description of Randall plus his hat- in case they were to run into him at the inn at some point. ;)

Apart from listening intently to Nathan's side of his conversation with the goblin and trying to piece together what is being said by the goblin now known as Vars... through the Half-Elf's calm responses to said goblin, Chigao injects to answer Nate's query with, "Bleja, in no uncertain terms, had advised us to bring Vars here to the town guards at a place called the Hold for questioning. None of our group present have ever met with any of the local guards before though- would that be a good idea at this point?".

The young Kunoichi Lass figured that if anybody present would know what the local town guards were like. it would most certainly be a local to Swallowfeld... someone like the gregarious Half-Elf conversing with Vars.

Not sure what following the jist of a one-side understood conversation would be under skills but perhaps an Int check could be made?: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16.

Should be Sense Motive, same as it's the "reactive skill" for Bluff's "pass a secret message" wordplay usage and pantomiming.

Yars replies:

"Rayl skins captuke yars but blood moon tribe absc yars. Yars spend too long ehn cell mei mean ster rayl skins. Rayl skins beat nef yars. Rayl skins add dwarf tam room el sot beat nef yars. Yars done... just des tam trav."

I would take sense motive or linguistics in this case...
