While Corran has no idea as to what he's looking at, he opts to seize the initiative.
Spell Penetration: 1d20 ⇒ 18
Will: 1d20 ⇒ 3
"You cheeky! Ha! Bastard! I'll HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!" Corran's magic feather tickles the creature just so, but there's no telling how long it'll last. The laughter becomes so uproarious that he loses his balance and tumbles to the ground: DMG: 1d6 ⇒ 5, but he doesn't seem at all injured.

Lord Xavien Marendo Karthis |
Xavien steps into the temple and, with hesitation, draws his blade again. Rather than attack, he keeps his blade low and peers curiously at the giggling fellow, uncertain whether he be a true menace or simply a bored prankster.

Dungeon Master S |
Xavien knows this to be a fey of some type, likely a type of gremlin. 1 Question
Dungeon Master S |
Xavien knows that while malevolent, a fay like this is probably motivated by greed more than anything else...
Lord Xavien Marendo Karthis |
"Keep an eye on your pockets, friends," Xavien says, "for this one is likely to pick them."
He keeps his sword low, but is prepared to bring the point up at need.

Corran Clement |
Corran hustles over to the fallen creature and threatens him with his falcata.
What have we here? Do you recognize this fellow for what he is, Xavien? You, Thief, who and what are you?
I'll ready an attack if he attempts anything hostile.
Lord Xavien Marendo Karthis |
"A rascal and an knave, I do not doubt," Xavien replies, "but a gremlin he is with certainty."
Dungeon Master S |
Ah, not just a gremlin, a monaciello gremlin! Most often found in urban environments, this gremlin lives among humanity, taunting religious and scholarly organizations with its pranks. Monaciello gremlins are most commonly found in monasteries and cathedrals where they wriggle their way up from the sewers and catacombs to play tricks on the devout. Two questions
Dungeon Master S |
Corran knows that their shenanigans can be violent, though they're cowards, and they almost always carry a fair bit of treasure on them. They LOVE lucre.

Dungeon Master S |
Corran's quick strike lands true, but the weapon fails to pierce the gremlin's skin. Nevertheless, the mischievous fay immediately surrenders, "Woah WOAH! Okay, I yield. I'll give you what I've got, just... you know, don't kill me. Deal?"
Once there's consensus as to what to do, I'll advance.
Dungeon Master S |
"My name is Viecar. I only wanted a spot of fun. Here. Take the contents of my pouch." Corran knows this to be a big deal in this type of gremlin.
He dumps the pouch on the floor, and it pains him to do so. Within are 300 gold coins and two potions of carbonated yellow. There's also a key. "Ah yes, you'll need that key to get out of here. The way out is to the north."
For defeating Viecar, each agent earns, 100 XP.
Lady Aurelia Basri |
Aurelia barely has time to make it into the room before it's all over. She nods in approval to the surrender, impressed by the quick thinking from Corran.
When they have the key, she asks, "how long have you been here, Viecar?"
Dungeon Master S |
"Oh.... I don't know, three.... four hundred years? I don't remember. And before you ask, no I don't know what door that goes to, nor do I know anything more than "north." Some schmuck tithed it to me a century ago. It certainly put him out, but I don't have need for it."
Corran Clement |
2 people marked this as a favorite. |
If you like taking the piss out of religious folk, have you considered Cheliax? Deep pockets up there, I hear.
Corran subconsciously stands a little straighter when Aurelia enters.
Dungeon Master S |
"Ooooo..... Well now... Maybe.... Hmm..... You get out, you come get Viecar, yes?"
Still a bit angry at the loss of his treasures, he retreats to the corner. "AND ONLY THEN!"
Corran Clement |
Corran scoops up the key, the potions and the coin and does it quickly without bluster or boast as to not offend the gremlin.
He then can't resist strolling around the chapel and checking it out. Taldor history after all.
Gimme some deets? I'll search anything that catches my fancy.
Leo and Kenton can help. I think they are pretty keen-eyed.
Dungeon Master S |
The party takes a precautionary loop around the shrine, and determines that there's nothing dangerous. Most of the iconography is celebratory of Aroden’s two former heralds: Arazni and Iomedae.
Seeking the way out, Corran directs them to the door in the collapsed hallway.
The nobles tag along. In the front is Dame Trant and in the back is the halfling, Imistos.
The door gets an all clear. Beyond a graying wooden reception counter extends from the eastern wall, overshadowed by a faded, curling portrait of a group of several Taldan nobles. Comical alterations adorn the portrait, with red and green markings adding in stink lines, ridiculous mustaches, and other odd embellishments. A door exits to the west, while other doors exit to the northeast and southeast.
A sibilant and tinny voice squeaks out from the shadows:
"Tiamat's teet! I am going to LOSE this fight.... ummm..... TRADE! DO YOU WANT TO TRADE? MIMIPS HAS DA GOODS!"
Dungeon Master S |
There's no reply, but a sentence with the same cadence and tone follows, just in different languages, If you can speak Gnomish or Undercommon, you may check the spoiler above.
Lady Ianthe Clement |
Hmmm... Maybe I can be a little help here.
Ianthe quickly casts Comprehend Languages.
We'll at least be able to know what it's saying. We'll have to do the best we can with getting it to understand us. It seems to want to trade.
Dungeon Master S |
Lady Ianthe can now check the spoiler."
Lady Ianthe Clement |
Ianth approaches the shadows. She gestures the creature forward.
She glances back to Corran. It's name is Mimips. It doesn't want a fight. It seems to want to trade.
Ianthe addresses the creature, hoping it understands her, Mimips. We're happy to trade, particularly for information.
Dungeon Master S |
Dungeon Master S |
The sound of coin is enough to draw forth the hidden voice. A short, reptilian humanoid with scaled skin, a snout filled with tiny teeth, and a long tail emerges. Mimips is apparently a kobold!.
Not understanding a word Corran says, Mimips stays at distance and then quickly opens his cloak to display an assortment of items!
Mimips himself is also decked out in quite a few items...
Dungeon Master S |
Using fingers for signing the numbers (and Ianthe confirming the words):
Lord Xavien Marendo Karthis |
Wordlessly, Xavien fishes a piece of parchment from his breast pocket, along with a stick of charcoal. He lays the parchment on the ground and draws out a map of the area uncovered so far (leaving out the safehouse complex, which he cannot place in reference to the rest). He marks their current location with an "X" and a small drawing of a kobold.
He stacks five gold crowns on the ground beside the map, and holds the charcoal out to Mimips.
Lady Aurelia Basri |
While the others attempt to converse and barter with the kobold, Aurelia sets to identifying some of the magic that they have found. She starts with the carbonated yellow potion that they found.
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
Unfortunately, it completely baffles her. So instead she studies the raven figurine that they found.
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
And she simply cannot get her head wrapped around the magical auras that she's seeing. [b]"Desna forefend. Will any of this make any bloody sense?
Lady Ianthe Clement |
Seeing Aurelia struggling with the items, Ianthe moves beside her to investigates the items herself.
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17 for the yellow potion
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21 for the raven figure
Dungeon Master S |
Lady Ianthe recognizes only the raven as a Figurine of Wondrous Power
Mimips takes the charcoal from Xavien and draws out a bit more of the map. That will take me some time and will post in Slack once I do.
Lady Aurelia Basri |
While Mimips draws, Aurelia examines the merchandise with a magically enhanced eye...
Light blue potions: Spellcraft: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25
Swirling rainbow potion: Spellcraft: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18
A wand of wood: Spellcraft: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
The bracers: Spellcraft: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
A dun-colored cloak: Spellcraft: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15
Dungeon Master S |
Aurelia only manages to recognize the three light blue potions as Cure Light Wounds.
Corran Clement |

Corran reads the aura if possible.
Dungeon Master S |
Lady Ianthe Clement |
Seeing Aurelia struggling a bit with the kobold's wares, Ianthe looks over her shoulder and sees what she can discern of their nature.
Swirling rainbow potion: Spellcraft: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27

Lord Xavien Marendo Karthis |
After the kobold has finished adding new pieces to the map, he nods and points to the four potions Mimips has on display. Then he lays the crystal dining set out on the floor, makes a sign for seven-ten-ten, two of the master-forged darts with another sign for three-ten-ten, and finally eight stacks of 10 gold crowns apiece. Total value: 1080 gp.
He motions for an exchange, and looks expectantly at the merchant.
Dungeon Master S |
Mimips nods enthusiastically! The kobold makes the exchange, then says
"Mimips is staying RIGHT HERE. Come back if you want more trade!"
Corran Clement |
The party moves to the western door. What do they see/hear/smell?
Aurelia: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (12) + 0 = 12
Corran: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Ianthe: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20

Leo: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
Xavien: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
Leo, do you wanna do the door?
