Taariik looks at Dru with some shame in his flaming features.

"I ... ehh ... I am sorry Dru!!" he says.

Night of the Gray Death

Taariik opens the door with the key, to reveal a shocking sight. You all remember the room from the real world, filled with bodies. Here they seem to have fused together into a single horrifying form, melted like candles into one another, lifeless eyes and mouths blinking and stuttering.

Worse still, the upper torso of a living elf seems to have fused with the others. He's emaciated and white haired, and as the monstrous mound lurches toward you he reaches out with his hands.

"Something went wrong! You've got to kill me! Please!"

The numerous mouths on the rest of the blob start to chant.

"Not to Kill! Not to kill" as it slumps forward, and the elf's upper half protests "I'm not a part of this thing! This isn't me!"

Night of the Gray Death

Taariik moves through the doorway past the surprised blob, and slices it with his adamantine sword. He cuts deep, revealing more horrific mouths from inside it.

Some damage was resisted there

The blob babbles in a way that seems to get inside your heads. It sounds at once close and far away, and seems like it contains some hidden wisdom if only you could listen close enough...

Will:

Huxwren: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25

Everyone manages to shake off the strange noises, and the blob bites at Taariik with its many mouths, trying to latch on with each bite.

After the second bite, the pulsating mass of dead flesh wraps around Taariik and begins a grotesque parody of peristalsis as it pulsates and attempts to engulf him. The elf body on the creature seems even more disgusted, and tries feebly to push him away.

It isn't resistant to Eldrin's magic missile, but it seems unpeturbed by it. It saves its ire for Drusilla and Taariik. First it sprays some sort of repulsive acid into Drusilla's eyes. She gets a quick attack in as it does so-

The mass of mouths completely envelops Taariik, leaving no part of him visible, just a writhing mass of dead flesh that looks bigger than before. More mouths appear covering its surface, and the half-a-half-elf looks disgusted.

Night of the Gray Death

You gather your strength and proceed on to the west, pushing through the doors into a lavish alchemy laboratory, finely appointed and meticulously organized.

Divinations reveal that both a simple looking glass vial and a cooking pot are both magical, but further examinations may have to wait, because through an archway into the temple your eyes are drawn to an unpleasant sight; the mutilated body of a tusked creature that you recognise as Madame Carrington's benevolent Baku helper. You each have a flash of its kindly presence in the dream sanctuary, softly whisking away any hint of bad dreams. Here its scattered and bloody remains are spread everywhere, its torn limbs and entrails strung up in a gory lattice. Its dead-eye head leers disturbingly from the altar, its tongue lolling from its dislocated jaw.

The rest of the temple is much as you remember it from the real world, a glittering glass butterfly mosaic spreads across the floor, the insect's wings outstretched toward carved marble columns, and behind the corpse of the baku the only difference is that the broken boards of the stage here are replaced with a stone altar.

As you look around, you hear the disembodied sound of children laughing seeming to come from the temple, but you can't see anything.

What do you do?

The group looks cautiously around the temple as Eldrin studies his book, the grim scene on the altar hard to look at yet difficult to avoid.

The strange child-like laughter seems to get closer, and you might be imagining it, but it seems to take on an air of mockery and malice.

As Eldrin finishes studying and casts his spell he sees something shocking in the room, and you won't believe what it is!

Sorry folks I ran out of time to update this tonight, I shall do so tomorrow. If anyone would move around during the minute it takes Eldrin to study his book feel free to move on the map

Night of the Gray Death

As Eldrin finishes casting his spell, he immediately sees 5 strange creatures moving around you.

These things are a bit gross, if you'd rather not know what they look like you can avoid opening the spoiler (and only Eldrin can actually see them anyway)

Content Warning: Child Injuries:
Each creature looks like a young child, perhaps 7 or 8, but with a slit throat. Their faces are pale and lifeless, but they brandish daggers and move with stops and starts in an especially creepy manner. As Eldrin watches them he notices the throat cuts are lined with sharp teeth, and as they move there is the hint of a wet and ragged tongue within. They are also blurry for some reason

As he makes eye contact and they realise he can see him, they move in for the kill.

I'm going to take a leaf out of 2E's book and say that pointing out the location of an invisible enemy takes an action, either a move or a swift. So until Eldrin's turn the rest of you don't know where they are unless they make themselves known. I'm not going to do a surprise round because you were all aware that something was there from the laughter

Night of the Gray Death

@Grunyak a few folks have identified the "kids" as daemons, so you'd know that they are outsiders and thus would be healed by channelled positive energy

I'll assume you target the injured one first

Taariik strikes out with his gleaming greatsword, instantly cleaving the fiend that Drusilla had attacked in half in a clearly fatal blow.

First attack kills 4. I suppose 2 would make sense next as you could kill it before it got to act

He then lunges toward another, running it through with his greatsword before stepping back. It looks wounded but not quite dead, and it follows with a step of its own, and lashes out with a sharp looking shortsword.

Short Sword: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26
Slashing: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

Taariik's defending bone leaps into the path of the sword, and with a spark blocks all the damage and the bleed it would have caused!

The creature angrily attacks again, trying to find a weak spot in his armour.

Short Sword: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
Slashing: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

This time the sword only scrapes across Taariik's armour, enraging the creature. Its head hinges back at the throat and it goes in for a bite

Bite: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
P/B/S: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

Once again Taariik does just enough to get his heavy plate in the way though, and emerges unscathed.

The Baku floats from the stage area, staying 10 feet or so above the ground and moves into a position where it's lolling head can see you all, and a burst of soporific motes briefly surround you.

After the Baku cast its spell, the angry fiend that had just been attacked by Taariik and attacked him in return, falls fast asleep.

The remaining conscious, unblinded fiend barks out a command
"ബാർക്കെത്ത് അബോധാവസ്ഥയിലായി, അവരെ ഉണർത്തുക! എന്റെ ശബ്ദത്തിലേക്ക് വരിക "

Abyssal:

"Barketh has fallen unconscious, wake them! Come toward my voice, another step, then to your left..."

Grunyak heals Taariik of his most grievous wounds.

The blinded fiend stumbles slowly toward the unconscious one, and reaches out to try to wake them.
