Huxwren shows too many teeth in a wide grin that doesn't reach their eyes as they follow the tall folks into the room. Drusilla manages to brain the one thug who escaped the glitter, knocking the wind out of him and almost killing him in one blow, but he stays on his feet and thinks better of staying here to get killed.
"It was all him!", he points at the sparkly invisible man. "we just done what he says, ask him your questions you maniacs"

"The house is no refuge - it's a spider's web that will ensnare the world! Mog Lathar - Save me!"
There is a brief flicker and then suddenly there are two of him, identical in every way, glitter and all. Immediately afterwards he concentrates and a sickening feeling washes across all the occupants of the room. Only Grunyak is spared this time.

Grunyak
After the brief explosion of violence that started when Druislla opened the doors, the sparse apartment is now eerily quiet. With Grunyak's spell all of your opponents lie unconscious but alive, and you're able to look around the room. On the desk you find an odd collection of things, including a collection of mundane valuables like lanterns, mirrors, candlesticks and jewellery and the like. More interesting items include a jar of gold teeth, three silver holy symbols in the shape of a key, a blue parakeet in a bronze cage, a wooden case engraved with "J.W" that contains a set of silverware, a golden holy symbol in the shape of a butterfly.
One of the drawers in the desk clinks when you open it, and inside are 40 glass vials, each with a small label stuck to it with a logo of a spider. You surmise that these must be shiver, and with what you've learned in Bridgefront it has a street value of around 1000GP in Korvosa, substantially more than that elsewhere.
Each of the guards in this room has the following items:
bloodroot poison, oil of taggit (2 doses), striped toadstool poison (2 doses); leather armor, masterwork hand crossbow with 10 bolts, masterwork shortsword, sap, alchemy kit, disguise kit, thieves’ tools.
The poisons are all labelled in the same spidery script, and their shortswords are all glistening with a substance that looks a lot like the bloodroot poison.
The cleric culist that was ranting about sacrificed souls coming back for revenge is in possession of rather more valuable looking items, and indeed everyone save Drusilla can cast a cantrip and confirm that several of them are magical.
The mundane items you find on him include 18 gold pieces, an antitoxin, 2 doses of blue whinnis poison, leather armour, and a painted steel holy symbol that appears to be a small purple spider. A weapon at his belt appears to be a sickle, but on closer inspection it is crafted from the leg of a giant spider. When you move it you can hear something sloshing inside.
This functions as a masterwork sickle that deals piercing instead of slashing damage, and can have up to 3 doses of poison loaded in that is delivered on a successful strike with no chance of poisoning yourself
He also has 3 scrolls of cure moderate wounds that Eldrin and Taariik can quickly read, a potion and a magical amulet.

GM Pudding |
The cure moderate scrolls are not arcane; I mentioned Eldrin and Taariik because they both have read magic prepared so can decipher scrolls without a spellcraft check. The plot for this module is quite complicated, I'll try to include some recaps and summaries to keep you on track, feel free to ask questions in discussion, it's going to get pretty weird soon
Grunyak thinks back to Magistrate Drune's initial request, recalling that Frell is the nephew of one of the most powerful magistrates in Korvosa
"With this cases connection to drugs, I need outsiders who I can trust to get to the bottom of it. I would like you to gather any evidence that ties Frell's death to the Brotherhood of the Spider, and locate and apprehend the dealer who provided the toxic narcotic. If you can find the dealer, there is little doubt you will also uncover proof of the cult responsible for poisoning the wells and bringing nightmares to Bridgefront's citizens. Once that proof is in hand, your expertise in the supernatural will be required to undermine the cult and disrupt the trade of this dangerous substance."
With Drune's words echoing in his mind, Grunyak correctly identifies several of the items on the desk as having been used by Frell Tan to barter for shiver, confirming that this lot must be his dealers. He also recalls that Nomi and Reynaldo said that Frell had gotten these items by working with "some gang to loot some old temple", and that he'd kept the book to find a better buyer. Madame Carrington told you that Frell had tried to sell it to her, but she had turned him down.
Finally Huxwren points out the secret passage, perhaps leading to the evidence of the well poisoning or leads to other members of the Brotherhood of the Spider.
If you'd like to explore the passage I just need a volunteer to go first! Also would you like to interrogate any of the gang members / cultists?
Grunyak |
Grunyak will tap Drusilla with his healing wand a couple of times just to help the party continue the press into the Brotherhood's hideout.
CLW wand charge: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
CLW wand charge #2: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

"Well, that aught to help you, Dru. Now, we could leave the evidence and get it on the way out or we can take it now. Does someone have a holding bag or such? I think we need to continue through that passage before the trail goes cold."
Taariik’ |
Thanks for the quick summary GM. Very helpful!
Taariik binds all prisoners with his rope. He wakes up one of the thugs to speak to him.
”Hey you! Wake up! You saw how easily we got you all. We working for someone you do not want to know or cross. It’s over for you guys! We need answers or it will get ugly! Who are you working for and does your brotherhood do?!?“ Taariik says with an intimating glare.

Grunyak channels to heal his allies, then seals up Drusilla's remaining wounds with a wand, bringing the whole party to full strength.

Unless you have any smelling salts he'll need a bit of healing to be brought round

One charge from a wand is sufficient
"I ain't tellin you nuffin!"
At first he is defiant as he gathers his wits, but Taariik's imposing form and flaming hair soon change his mind.
"Alright I'm sorry, just don't kill me mister! First, I ain't brover'ood, only Greeley is." He nods in the directly of the spellcaster with the sickle.
"We're all members of Barvasi's Band, we're nought but 'ired enforcers for them spiders-lovin' weirdos. We 'elp em run shiver from their base on Hook street. Only something must ave appened recently. Frell was one of us, and he says he was part of some big score, and then suddenly we're all avin the same nightmares and bein unted in em. Greeley then starts payin us not only to run shiver, but also to take shiver so we can protect im in the dream-world. He seemed to fink that something was unting 'im and the other brover'ood cultists specifically. We ave to find im and hide im. That's it, that's all I know"
After a little pressing he reveals some more details about where they get the shiver.
"The house on Hook street! I'm not even sure which one it is, but there's a secret way to it through the old walls. There's a hidden opening in the privy downstairs that goes into the walls, then you can follow that south. I ain't never been in the house myself, I just go in to collect shipments. Will you let me go now? I've been elpful"
What would you like to do?
Taariik’ |
Taariik has smelling salts.
He looks at the man and claps on his shoulder.
”I am sorry for your loss! Show us the entrance you were talking about and then get going. See this as your chance to spin your life to another path ... maybe to perfection!“
GM Pudding |
The thug seems stunned and delighted. Despite being very woozy and wobbly on his feet, he leads you down the stairs and to a door in the courtyard. He opens it and the stench of a poorly-cleaned privy flows out. He leans in, over the hole, and slides the rear wall to the right while holding his nose, revealing a large sewer system, thick with cobwebs.
"There it is, just like I said. Good luck with your vigilantism!"
He stumbles off moving very slowly and holding his head, heading in the direction of the market.
Taariik’ |
Taariik looks at the others.
”I would suggest to search this building thoroughly for any additional information or items but then I’d really use the sewers to find this house!“
He scratches his head.
”We should probably also interrogate the guy that is really part of the brotherhood to understand what he was so afraid of!“
I suggest a proper detect magic scan of the whole buildings and then a proper search.
Taariik then also uses the smelling salts on the bound leader of the gang.
”Hey, wake up!“
Grunyak |
Before we wake the clerical cultist, but after being shown the sewer tunnel, Grunyak rubs his bald head and says, "I think we should make sure we have everything here first." He points to the passage Huxwren found.
Sewers are a possiblity but let's continue through the passage in the wardrobe. It could lead to an office or the cultists private room. Bet he has some correspondence with the rest of the Brotherhood."
Eldrin Inarie |
"Perhaps we should take our captives into and report to the authorities, I believe we have completed our first task. If we proceed we are leaving these people un-guarded."
Taariik’ |
Taariik nods a little ashamed.
"Oh yes! Eldrin is right!"
GM Pudding |
It sounds like everyone wants to leave the secret passage into the city walls (I shouldn't have described it as a sewer, sorry) for now, but that we've got Grunyak and Huxwren wanting to check out the wardrobe secret passage immediately but Taariik and Eldrin want to leave it until after taking your captives to the city guard. Is that right? Would Drusilla care to tie-break? There's no reason not to talk to Greeley now though
Taariik wakes up Greeley with the smelling salts, who looks around woozily, but grits his teeth and says nothing.
Do you have any questions for him?
Drusilla the Spear-Maiden |
Maybe it would be better for you to run to another town. That way you won't be able to snitch on us, and you won't be seen as a traitor either by your own gang.
Dru opens the door to the thug, before is leader is fully awake.
We should bring those to the guards, or send for the guard so they can pick them up.
Grunyak |
Grunyak makes one last attempt to get his friends to proceed without the guard. "Drune said not to trust the guard. I say we tie these guys up and finish clearing the building. These are minor players and the bigger fish are likely to get away if we pause for guards and fuss about."
Grunyak grunts again. "The answers are through these passages. Either the wardrobe or the wall. But not the guards."
GM Pudding |
It looks like that's a win for the guard
You decide to inform the guard of what's happened before finishing your investigation of the secret passage, despite Grunyak's objections. Drusilla heads out from the alley and waves down a guard, who promises to return with Captain Crandon.
A few minutes later Captain Crandon and half a dozen of her hand-picked guards arrive. She instructs them to start taking the unconscious gang-members into custody and turns her attention to you.
"You have worked quickly! Magistrate Drune sent me to find you this morning after we got word of the attack on the docks, but you'd already left your inn. As the stakes are high and the brotherhood clearly know of your existence, he has drawn up some paperwork and called in a few favours to get it notarized. These papers-" She hands out certificates, each one with a large fresh wax seal of the Korvosan Government. "- certify you as contractors for the government, giving you powers of arrest and detainment whilst working toward your assigned end; that of bringing the Brotherhood of the Spider to justice and putting an end to the well poisonings"
She looks around at the scene of bodies strewn about and continues.
"I can see that you haven't met any barriers as of yet though. Magistrate Drune values your independence as outside professionals, so rather than report to me or him I suggest your finish your work and report in when it's complete. If you need anything you are welcome to find me and I'll see what I can do"
By the time she's finished talking her efficient guards have carried the prisoners out and led them away.
"Can I be of any more assistance?"
Huxwren |
Huxwren lurks about upstairs underneath the middle bed, out of sight of the guards and their clanking manacles. They stay completely still, looking like a large abandoned porcelain doll rather than a living creature, until the sound of boots on the wooden door fades.
Stealth: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (15) + 20 = 35
Might as well use Creepy Doll - and it fits rather well with this spirit's tendencies.
Taariik’ |
Taariik is glad that they did nothing wrong.
“I really want to do the right thing Captain Crandon! It is so good to know that we are on the side of the law now and have authority to find out what is going on!“
He grins at the other Pathfinders.
“I have no further questions and think that we really need to continue our search! And we really have good leads!“ he says eager to continue to check out the house.
GM Pudding |
The secret passage in the wardrobe is small, barely a few feet across so you need to go single file. Who would go in first?

Taariik takes the lead.
perception : 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
GM Pudding |
Taariik pushes into the passage, which turns first to the left, then to the right. After the turn to the right he sees a door up ahead, but as he approaches it he fails to spot a trick floorboard which gives way!
Taariik reflex: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
His cat-like reflexes allow him to jump backwards and avoid the fall, which goes 30 feet down to ground level, and he can see a set of wicked looking spikes at the bottom.
It's a DC 5 acrobatics to jump across. I don't think take 10 is applicable as it is dangerous. You could also bridge it with something
