Welcome to GM Euan’s Recruitment Thread!

This recruitment is for the Rise of the Runelords, Anniversary Edition AP (PF1). Please download and read the Rise of the Runelords (AE) Players Guide (link). Or at least the first bits - it does go on a bit setting up the neighborhood. I already have one fine player lined up for the campaign. I am recruiting for four more spots (total of five).

Do not worry what the others are playing as it doesn’t matter. If we have all halfling bards, we’ll make it work, and likely have a lot of fun along the way. Build what you want to play. I’m more worried about balance between party members than I am balance between the party and your foes. More importantly, I will not be selecting players primarily based on what they’re playing, but rather who.

We will be using Roll20 (link) for the mapping, Paizo (link) for gameplay, and Slack (link) for some out of character discussions. There will also be a spreadsheet in Google Drive (link) primarily for tracking NPCs and treasure.

I want a brisk game, so please carefully consider your commitment. I hope to post twice a day, and more often as needed, though I try to post at the pace of play. I want my players to post once a day, pending interactions and the like of course. If you haven’t posted for 24 hours, I will DMPC you, have you delay, or otherwise fall behind. Likewise, folks that post more often will be more included in the storyline that unfolds.

When I ran Curse of the Crimson Throne (link) on these boards, it took 745 days (two years, 15 days) and I had 2,706 posts (3.6 a day average). Later in Second Darkness (link) it took 758 days (two years, 27 days) and I had 2,025 posts (2.6 a day average). Then with Mummy's Mask (link) it took 1,217 days (3 years, 4 months) and I had 2,426 posts (1.2 a day average). Finally, in War for the Crown (link), we’re about 189 days in (6 months, 7 days) and I have 260 posts (1.4 a day average). As you can see, I’ve slowed down a bit to allow for more role play by my players but still maintain a decent pace.

You will start at first level, but you won’t be there long! The campaign finishes with you on the cusp of 18th level. You are beginning in Sandpoint (link), a lovely little town in Varisia (link) just a little northeast of the great city of Magnimar (link). The campaign begins on Rova 23, 4707, a Toilday and the fall equinox, as well as, of course, being the Swallowtail Festival (link).

Please create your character following the standard Pathfinder rules (version 1) point buy system (link) using a 20 point buy. We’ll do Hit Points in the old Pathfinder Society style - maximum at first level, average +1 for all subsequent levels (so Fighters start with 10, and gain 6 at each level for example). We’re not using mythic, variant multi-classing rules, or any third party rules such as gestalt or spheres of power. I do not want to limit your alignment too much, but no evil folks rattling around please.

You’ll start with three traits (link), one of which must be chosen from the campaign (link, scroll down) list for the AP. However, please don’t chose Merchant Family (link), as we’re not using that trait in this campaign. You may have a drawback if you wish, but it does not give you an additional trait, so I don’t expect any but the most adventurous to do so.

You’ll start with 200 gp in your pocket, thanks in part to a successful event in your recent past. Perhaps you just finished a stint as a mercenary guard for one of the many businesses or districts in Magnimar; or just sold off your best crafting efforts; or perhaps you inherited some money and just finished collecting it at the church of Pharasma in the Keystone district of Magnimar. Whatever it is, please mention it in your background - history or memory (see below). If your character is chosen, we may expand on this a bit to give you some understanding of, and roots in, Magnimar (even if you’re from Sandpoint - it is the nearest big city after all).

I am open to nearly any Paizo source. Also, I know there are other sites with Pathfinder rules, but please try to link to the Archives of Nethys (link) whenever possible in your references. If you do not, I’ll just be searching there anyway, so save me some time please.

No gunslingers or other ‘tech’ themes. Sorry. I like my fantasy fantastic and firearms throw me off a bit. Please no summoners or very unbalanced builds. You should build well, but someone who’s only good at one thing, will spend a lot of time waiting as the others play. Also, this isn’t a competition. You will be working as a team, and will only succeed as a group. Limit your race to the core book though alternate race traits are fine.

Please write a description (what do people see?) along with a semi-public background (what would someone with a Knowledge, Local DC 15 (link) know about you?). Please also write a detailed background. Speak about what’s essential to your character, goals you may have, people you may know, and a memory of something important to you. The detailed background need not be long. 6-8 short paragraphs are sufficient in most cases (history x2, essentials, goals, people, memory).

PLEASE pay attention to your background and description. I am far more interested in who you are than what you are. In selecting a party I’m going to look more at the background than the statistics. Build a character that is interesting and capable of solving problems. Please do not build a min-max barbarian beat-stick (which isn’t to say no barbarians, just make it colorful!). You won't have much fun in this game. It isn't that you won't be fighting obviously, just avoid the one-dimensional character.

I’m sure you will have questions I have not answered. For more information please see the Campaign tab. There is a lot of useful stuff there on what I’m looking for in terms of tone, some discussion of die rolling, etiquette, crafting, and more to let you know what sort of campaign I plan to run. It might help to answer some questions you may have and is an important read.

Recruitment will remain open until I have selected the players. I don’t know how long that will take, but I expect it’ll be about a week or so, depending on interest and based on past experience. I will post regular updates and answer questions as we go. I will give a few days warning before closing recruitment and select the players within the following couple days. The campaign will begin fairly quickly after that, though there will be plenty of time to tweak characters and make final preparations of course.

To help with recruitment, I like to set a few scenes for applicants to role-play their characters a little. It’s an opportunity to show me who you are, and give yourself a chance to develop a little personality around the bones. Nothing in the scenes are set in stone, though I often use them as a springboard for the campaign. So things I post there are canon, but you can play with concepts and ideas without having to keep any of it. I’ll post this initial scene shortly.

Finally, out of respect for Paizo, and the age of possible players and readers, I keep my campaigns PG 13 for the most part. Please do the same.

If you’ve been on the PbP boards long enough, you know how often PbP APs fail...which is why it should be very clear that GM Euan is one of the best. As a consistent and fair GM, he doesn’t falter. Finishing three PbP APs? That’s nearly unheard of. It’s astounding.

I’m in this game and I truly hope to find four players who really want to explore character and story and have fun while doing it. I don’t care about your class and abilities. I care about your ability to roleplay, to post, and to push the story forward. I don’t care if you’re new to PbP or experienced, but want to play with players who want to enjoy the roleplaying and story.

I’m excited for this and hope every applicant will be too. Let’s have fun.

Dotting for very interested.

A question, are there any variant rules in use, for example : Elephant in the Room Feats or Background Skills?

Otherwise to summarize: 20 pt buy, Any Paizo source except Technology, 200 gp starting gold, 3 traits, and HP as pathfinder society.

Silver Crusade

Oh my god. I have never had the honor and pleasure to be in a Euan game! And an opportunity to finally do Runelords on top of that?!

I shall do my utmost to pull together a suitable application. I even have an especially busy week coming up. But this game is worth it.

Ahhh yes, there's always something I miss.

We are not using Elephant in the Room Feats, but we are using Background Skills. I'd edit the first post but it's long enough already!

EDIT: We're also using hero points.

Dark Archive

Just gonna pop in here and echo Painlord up above. I am not in this game, but Euan is an A++ GM that always brings his a-game so make sure you bring yours as well.

Application submitted.

consider my interest extremely piqued!!!

GM Euan, you didn't specify, so can I assume we can use either core or unchained versions of classes? Or do you have a preference ?

Thanks

Another RotRL campaign, and this one by a super reputable GM. Dotting with extreme interest. I've never managed to play this AP and would be very interested. I'm returning from an online hiatus, but expect to be available for the forceable future.

Hey! I'm very interested. I was in one IRL RotRL games that fizzled after book 1. And another PbP RotRL game (with this character) that fizzled before we even started.

Here is Hasslo Holt, dwarven ranger. Will probably need to update him.

Silver Crusade

dot. I'm applying to another RotRL game, so I don't want to apply to this one before I hear whether or not I am selected for that one.

If I end up applying here, It will likely be a goblin alchemist. Or A Card caster Magus (depending, black blade is also an option)

I think I'm fine with unchained classes. I tend to prefer the way unchained handles barbarians for example (rage is so deadly in a close fight) but I'm probably fine with either approach. I don't know the unchained rules for classes as well as I might however... :)

As I mentioned in the opening post, I like to do a little role play with the proposed characters. It gives you a chance to toy with ideas, and I start setting the tone of the campaign. It also gives us something to do in the chaos that is recruitment.

You leave Magnimar (link), ‘Where Freedom Can Never Be Lost’, on the western edge of Varisia (link) on your way east and north to the town of Sandpoint (link). It is a few days before the Swallowtail Festival (link). In fact, it is Starday Rova 20, 4707, and you are hoping to make it to Sandpoint in time for the festival there. They’re dedicating a new cathedral, on top of the usual celebrations, so it promises to be quite the party. If all goes as expected, you should arrive late on Moonday, Rova 22, the day before.

The caravan joins up at Deadeye Lodge, on the eastern edge of the Seerspring Garden in Magnimar. In the end, it consists of a half dozen or so wagons of varying usage (and comfort) from simple flatboards piled with supplies, to a rather complex brightly covered affair complete with cushioned seats for the few well off who aren’t astride their own horses (just 1 gold for comfort from here to Sandpoint!). There are maybe twice as many horses, though only a few are ridden. The others are used as pack animals for the journey. Finally, there are many folk just walkin’ as they make their way down the road. Two outriders are coordinating the caravan, Nichole and Nick.

Though you were scheduled to leave the City of Monuments shortly after daybreak, delays, and a few stragglers, have resulted in a departure from the Erastil church closer to noon. But the horses strain and pull and everyone eventually moves out of the Magnimar city gates and onto the Lost Coast Road, after a few twists and turns.

Naturally, a light cold early-autumn drizzle starts to fall as soon as you’re underway, which dampens the mood somewhat as people huddle together on the trip.

As you leave Magnimar, you pass a variety of brightly colored Varisian caravans headed the other way. Late season stragglers, ending their summer long meanderings along the highways and byways of Varisia as they prepare to spend another winter in the accepting city. Magnimar’s population will swell by some 20% with the addition of the itinerant Varisians over winter - driving all manner of trade and supply as they pack the city with their colorful tents and wagons.

The day’s journey is unseasonably cold, wet, and somewhat miserable. Everyone is in a hurry, due to the late departure, which is made harder as the rain turns the road muddy in parts. But people plod along, largely in silence, each keeping their dark thoughts to themselves as the outriders spur people on - especially Nichole who is more vocal than Nick.

You spend the first night of two on the road in a substantial wayside inn called the Sunrise Phoenix, arriving very late due to the late start and rain. Well, to call it an inn is doing it a disservice. It’s a complex, with stables, two residential buildings, and a separate pub for victuals as well as beer and liquor. They even have a watchtower, complete with a couple bored guards, though no walls this close to Magnimar. The rain is heavy by the time you arrive, and folks scatter to their respective rooms (if they’re so lucky) or simply bedding under the wagons to avoid the soak.

The next day dawns brighter, with a little sun peaking out through leaden clouds - the inn living up to its name. A minstrel, or perhaps simply a skilled fiddle player, strikes up a likely tune which is picked up here and there by the more lighthearted in the traveling group. The whole day becomes more friendly, and chatty, as people begin to look forward to the Festival at trips end, just two days away. It’s Sunday, Rova 21, 4707 around 10am. The sun is really burning through the clouds, and the lovely smell of wet heather wafts in from the fields as you travel along the well-worn track.

Some of you may be from Sandpoint, in which case you’re coming back from a summer’s end shopping trip or the like in Magnimar. The rest may be traveling to Sandpoint for the first time, or even again after a time away. Please provide your description, and interact with the scene, and especially each other, in your own way when your character is ready for review. I’ll be posting as well to learn more about each of you and to respond to your actions. Have some fun with it.

Submissions so far:

Hasslo Holt, (needed: background and description, background skills, might be other tweaks)

If you are not on this list and feel you should be, or there is some other error, please let me know and I’ll correct it. Thanks!

Dark Archive

I do not have an idea yet created for a character, but I am definitely interested.

I do really like using background skills.

I've got a few ideas about characters, and can pretty much fill in any niche needed by the party.

dotting:

in an attempt to save space on the thread, I decided to put this under a spoiler.

I'm stoked about the idea of playing the original AP with a GM focused on personalities instead of crunch and of course everyone who's been on the boards a while has heard of Painlord. I've been on the boards five years and only finished one AP (RoW)

I will be applying with Seamus. Like many of our Icons he has seen multiple variations. whether as an applicant or as a character in a game. When I create a character I mentally attach a personality to them and, even if class and race change, I try to keep them true to the type of person I see them as. I listed the following information from an application to a RoRL that he was not accepted into, to give you an idea of how I see him in RoRL.

I will work on fleshing out his 'page' again and post here when it is finished. If I remember correctly I put this together quickly, and background skills were not in play. So there will be slight changes made. I will use background skills to add a musical instrument that he will play to earn money and to use as a front instead of mucking stalls.

Introduction:
Seamus basking in the moonlight stands in the square, his half-elf eyes focused on the new temple, 'Everyone is excited, Along with the Swallowtail Festival we will celebrate the dedication of this lovely new cathedral. Looking about the square he reminisces. 'I remember the old church, I remember the first time I was in this square alone, well not exactly alone, being chased by bullies, they never caught me that day.

Smiling to himself he continued. 'I remember many nights coming past this very place in the wee hours of the morning returning to the brothel after spending the evening at Junker’s Edge watching scrounging goblins, every now and then throwing rocks at them.' Seamus stooped over and picked up a couple of rocks off of the cobble stone and threw one into the darkness. 'This was the first place Zandu had me attempt a cut purse, that was on a Swallowtail festival also, those were good times.' Seamus frowns as he drops the second stone back to the cobbles.

There were sad times too. When the Chopper took Ionacu and Esmerelda, they call it ‘the late unpleasantness’, it was a hell of a lot worse than unpleasant for the families who lost someone. I’m glad they burned that bastard. looking at the new cathedral again. He’s not all that burned though, that same month the north side was aflame, as if Old Stoot took more in his death than in his life. Seamus shudders as he continues walking across the town square.

Finally looking back at the new building; 'At least we have our new church and a new start.' He unconsciously touches one of his daggers,'and a new Swallowtail Festival with new purses to cut.' Smiling to himself as he leaves the square and heads for home.

Background:
Seamus Passeri was born twenty years ago to Alika Passeri, a beautiful Varisian girl with hazel colored hair and green eyes. For several years she was a working girl at Lady Kaye’s establishment. His father had been a traveling minstrel who was a fixture at the playhouse. For a time, Alika and he were quite an item, painting the town. After he left she realized she was pregnant. When the beautiful baby boy was born she named him Seamus after her father.

As Seamus grew up he was teased and bullied by the other kids in the neighborhood because he was different, his half-elf features set him apart, he spent a lot of time alone. Instead of fighting he would run, His favorite place to hide was the cliffs on the Varisian Gulf, he would sit at Junker’s Edge and watch the goblins scrounge through the junk and garbage. He would make his way back home after twilight, trusting to his elven vision. During the daytime he would stay busy with odd jobs around ‘the house’: chopping wood, working in the stables, helping in the kitchen and running errands.

Seamus' life changed as he became older and his mother decided to retire from what was a young woman’s profession. She settled down and married a Varisian named Zandu Vasilica, who was a small-time crook and member of the Sczarni. Zandu instantly recognized Seamus’ skills. Seamus was old enough to continue working odd jobs for Lady Kaye but the rest of the time he was being instructed by Zandu on skills the Sczarni valued: fighting, pickpocketing, lock picking and burglary.

Last year, Seamus’ life took a major turn. His step-father was offered a mid-level position by his family in Magnimar: It had been Zandu’s dream fulfilled, he and Seamus’ mother moved there immediately. Seamus decided to stay in Sandpoint. It was his home, It was where he belonged. He continued his work for lady Kaye in the stables and would occasionally earn a little cash doing “independent” work.

Appearance:
Seamus' appearance is a mixture of the larger culture around him and his mother’s Varisian sensibility in both his physical appearance and style. He has the olive colored skin and expressive eyes of his mother’s people and the height and litheness associated with his elven father. His hair is a sandy brown and his eyes the same green as his mother. His pointed ears and elfin features clearly mark him as a half breed. His choice of clothing in functional and simple with splashes of bright colors in the scarf he wears to keep his long hair back and in the rings on his fingers. He is normally seen wearing his brown leather jacket, (which is actually studded leather armor) with brown hose and durable low boots. He wears a short sword on his belt and daggers hidden in sheaths up his sleeves and strolls about with a knotted oak walking stick.

Personality
Seamus is a quiet man with a quick wit and savvy sense of things. He is a shining example of Sandpoint’s underbelly. Not well educated but a fair amount of ‘horse sense.’ Loyal in his own way and living by his own code, he is quick to help a friend and quick to exploit those who have ‘more than their fair share.’

Hi! This is my application for the game. I still have to complete it - I’m reviewing the background for some last details before posting - but the overall idea is here already. Kronk is literally an almost middle-aged obese cook who loves fried cheese and cheap ale, and wants to fulfill his life with adventuring. As soon as I wrap with the background I’ll get into the RP posting you added, GM! Thanks for running this.

GM Euan is running RotRL, a campaign I've never done and had just recently said is one I really need to get under my belt? Oh man I would be a fool not to apply!

I'm also really excited for a campaign that will be running at a brisk pace. While I have become accustomed to the 1/day standard, I definitely have the availability and desire to be posting much more frequently. Especially now since so many of my games have dried up due to Covid and have left me with tons of room for new games.

I've been trying to get back into the types of characters I love playing, and I think this would be an excellent time to break out my most beloved character that I have ever made (and the very first one I played in a tabletop game), Tiasar Soseshtian. Tiasar has existed in various incarnations over the past decade, but this version is one that has a history and motivations deeply rooted in Golarion lore. I think when I was writing his background I had about a dozen different wiki pages open. It's a character I've done a ton of work on, and he has a complex personality and character motivations that I know are fun to interact with in a campaign.

I will get Tiasar updated with the specific stipulations for this campaign and let you know when he is ready, although he will be largely very much the same as he is now, so feel free to peruse and review.

I am really really excited about this one, thank you for running GM Euan!

Silver Crusade

ooohhhhh, I can't wait, I'm going to apply with a varisian card caster magus I think.

Oh wow, my RP spidey sense did not let me down when it said 'check recruitment' today!

All my games have slowed way down, so posting twice a day sounds like a dream come true (not to mention actually finishing an AP!). I am GMing and playing on these boards and probably refresh my campaign page up to 20 times per day, lol. Would LOVE to see a game move as quickly as this!

Also I am big on characterization. I blame my theatre background, but in depth characterization is my forte and I have always felt that PbP is an ideal format for really fleshed-out characters and truly immersive roleplay. I also love to read and write, so there will be no TL;DR for me. XD

To that end, the character I would most love to play is my Qetsiyah "Kizzy". She is a martial character focused on using the Bodyguard feat chain to protect her friends rather than maxing out damage. I last built her as a Cavalier, for maximum Aid Another bonus, but I can rework that if you think it's a poor choice for such a dungeon heavy campaign. I think I will have to tweak the build some since I built for Elephant in the Room last. She was in a RoTRL game as a book 2 recruit, but I had a laptop crash take me out of game long enough they had to replace her. Would really like to see her in a good group from the beginning. (Also I have multiple devices to post from now!)

Here is her Cav build:

SPECIAL ABILITIES

Adopted You were adopted and raised by someone not of your actual race, and raised in a society not your own. You may immediately select a race trait from your adoptive parent's race.
Bonus Feat Humans select one extra feat at 1st level.
Caravan Guard You recently hired on to Sandru's caravan to serve as a guard, but the job, while it paid well, gave you little chance to scratch the adventuring itch, since the caravan never really ventured into dangerous territory. You understand why Sandru avoided the more dangerous routes, of course, but that didn't help assuage your urge to seek adventure. You've just told Sandru that you're quitting the job in order to try your hand at adventuring - he seemed to understand, and even gave you some good tips on how best to survive potential challenges. You gain a +1 trait bonus on Survival checks, and Survival becomes a class skill for you.
Challenge (Ex) 1/day [Swift Action], you can challenge a foe to combat. Choose one target within sight to challenge. Your melee attacks deal extra damage whenever the attacks are made against the target of the challenge. This extra damage is 1. The cavalier can use this ability once per day at 1st level, plus one additional time per day for every three levels beyond 1st, to a maximum of seven times per day at 19th level. Challenging a foe requires much of the cavalier's concentration. The cavalier takes a -2 penalty to his Armor Class, except against attacks made by the target of his challenge. The challenge remains in effect until the target is dead or unconscious or until the combat ends. Each cavalier's challenge also includes another effect which is listed in the section describing the cavalier's order. his allies receive a +1 circumstance bonus on melee attack rolls against the target of his challenge whenever he is threatening the target. This bonus increases by +1 for every four levels the cavalier possesses.
Halfling
Helpful You see nothing wrong with letting others achieve greatness so long as the job gets done. Whenever you successfully perform an aid another action, you grant your ally a +4 bonus instead of the normal +2.
Mount (Ex) A cavalier gains the service of a loyal and trusty steed to carry him into battle. This mount functions as a druid's animal companion, using the cavalier's level as his effective druid level. The creature must be one that he is capable of riding and is suitable as a mount. A Medium cavalier can select a camel or a horse. A Small cavalier can select a pony or wolf, but can also select a boar or a dog if he is at least 4th level. The GM might approve other animals as suitable mounts. A cavalier does not take an armor check penalty on Ride checks while riding his mount. The mount is always considered combat trained and begins play with Light Armor Proficiency as a bonus feat. A cavalier's mount does not gain the share spells special ability. A cavalier's bond with his mount is strong, with the pair learning to anticipate each other's moods and moves. Should a cavalier's mount die, the cavalier may find another mount to serve him after 1 week of mourning. This new mount does not gain the link, evasion, devotion, or improved evasion special abilities until the next time the cavalier gains a level.
Order (Ex) At 1st level, a cavalier must pledge himself to a specific order. The order grants the cavalier a number of bonuses, class skills, and special abilities. In addition, each order includes a number of edicts that the cavalier must follow. If he violates any of these edicts, he loses the benefits from his order's challenge ability for 24 hours. The violation of an edict is subject to GM interpretation. A cavalier cannot change his order without undertaking a lengthy process to dedicate himself to a new cause. When this choice is made, he immediately loses all of the benefits from his old order. He must then follow the edicts of his new order for one entire level without gaining any benefits from that order. Once accomplished, he gains all of the bonuses from his new order. Note that the names of these orders might vary depending upon the campaign setting or GM's preference.
Order of the Dragon Whenever an order of the dragon cavalier uses Survival to provide food and water for his allies or to protect his allies from harsh weather, he receives a bonus on the check equal to 1/2 his cavalier level (minimum +1).
Skilled Humans gain an additional skill rank at first level and one additional rank whenever they gain a level.
Sworn Defense (Ex) At 1st level, whenever an honor guard issues a challenge, he can select one ally as his ward for the duration of the challenge. Whenever the honor guard is adjacent to his ward, he takes a -1 penalty to Armor Class, and the ward receives a +1 dodge bonus to AC. This modifies the challenge ability.
Tactician (Ex) At 1st level, a cavalier receives a teamwork feat as a bonus feat. He must meet the prerequisites for this feat. As a standard action, the cavalier can grant this feat to all allies within 30 feet who can see and hear him. Allies retain the use of this bonus feat for 3 rounds plus 1 round for every two levels the cavalier possesses. Allies do not need to meet the prerequisites of these bonus feats. The cavalier can use this ability once per day at 1st level, plus one additional time per day at 5th level and for every 5 levels thereafter.
Tactician (Ex) As the cavalier class feature, except that a strategist can use this ability once per day at 1st level, plus one additional time per day at 5th level and for every four levels thereafter (to a maximum of five times per day at 17th level).

Would probably take Friends and Enemies if she stays a Cav and/or Monster Hunter from the Campaign Traits. Can we take 2 Campaign traits? Her background on the profile will not change much but description on the profile was for a strength build, this one suits this build better:

Basic Description:
Kizzy is on the tallish side for a woman standing about 5'7". She is lean with an athletic build and what some people call “child bearing hips”. Her mother was a famed beauty and though Kizzy does favor her much, her features are coarser and her tendency to scowl suspiciously spoils her looks somewhat. She keeps her wavy, dark auburn hair short enough to not impede her armor and ties it with a traditional Varisian head scarf that belonged to her mother. When outfitted for battle, she wears a chain shirt and a slender rapier as well a sap.

Also did a Q&A for her last recruitment, so I will include that as well.

Q&A:
1. What emotion best describes your character?
Eagerness. She is very eager to prove herself, eager to find her place in the world and begin her own life.

2. What emotion does your character evoke in others? How do others react to you?
Kizzy is very confident, at least on the battlefield. She can help inspire her allies to work better together as a team. She is less confident in relationships and matters of the heart and will likely be more innocent and receptive of advances, rather than making them herself.

3. What does your character need most?
To feel connection and belonging. She has always been an outsider in her adopted family.

4. What is your character’s goal in life?
To achieve something truly admirable. Growing up an orphan and a bastard, she feels a strong need to prove her own worth.

5. How does your character believe this goal can be accomplished?
By always doing the right thing. Even those things that seem downright mad.

Background
For any campaign, a character should have come from somewhere. Spend any length of time with someone and their history is bound to come up. These questions give your character history, and therefore dramatic and emotional weight.

6. Where did your character come from?
Grew up as part of a Varisian caravan. She will be very “at home” in this environment. Her family has an inn in Magnimar. (This location can be changed)

7. When did you grow up? Everyone begins taking responsibility for their own lives at different times and in different ways.
She is probably in the process of growing up, being away from her family and living on her own for the first time.

8. What values does your character hold?
+ Loyalty, Teamwork, Protectiveness, and Joy
- Betrayal, Secrets, Bigotry and Hatefullness

9. How does your character dress?
Qetsiyah wears typical Varisian clothing, though she favors the more masculine options in breeches and flowing blouses as it works better with armor. She wears a chain shirt on the battlefield and ties her wavy shoulder length dark auburn hair up in a bright red scarf.

10. What are your character’s means?
She fights with a rapier and uses it along with Bodyguard and Combat Reflexes to negate attacks on her allies.
Details

11. What are your character’s personal tastes? Name at least three things your character enjoys for no reason other than personal preference.
Like her halfling kin, she loves to eat and drink and make merry.
She enjoys watching talented people perform.
She loves to dance, especially the kinds done as a big group.
She loves to laugh and make jokes, she will even do so when nervous or trying to lighten a serious mood.

12. What are your character’s opinions?
Qetsiyah is in awe of Ameiko’s talent and beauty.
She respects Shayleu.
She loves animals and especially horses and dogs and despises goblins for what they do to them.
She believes in keeping people safe.
She doesn't know who her father is but believes he may have met her mother in Sandpoint.

13. What is your character’s comfort zone? What environment, activity, or mindset puts your character at ease?
Training with her sword and eating, drinking and making merry. She can be playful when in a good mood.

14. Who has had the biggest impact on your character’s life?
Her adoptive mother, Sasha. She knew her mother, Simza, better than anyone. She has told Kizzy the stories about her and made her feel more connected to her late mother.

15. What are some of your character’s unexpected quirks?
She eats and drinks with great gusto. She instantly likes most all children and halflings. If goaded, she will display her few circus-style tricks such as juggling and doing a hand-stand. She can be suspicious of new people and tends to scowl in an obvious way when unhappy.
She has a horse named Moose and she dotes on him regularly.

Player

These five questions direct your play experience itself rather than your character. What do you want out of your game? If a group answers these together, they can expect dramatically rewarding game sessions, and the GM will know clearly what’s expected to give everyone a good time.

16. What kind of story does your character belong in?
With a close knit group of close friends, where she can shine protecting the people she cares about while doing something noble and worthy.

17. What role does your character fill?
She is a dexterity based fighter who uses Bodyguard to aid her allies AC in combat. She will be able to participate in mounted combat as a Cavalier, contribute teamwork feats to the group. Plan to take “Take the Hit” later to be able to intercept an attack on an ally when needed.

18. What should the other players know about your character?
Stand next to her in combat, so she can use her AoO’s to aid your characters AC.

19. What is your play style?
I really enjoy in-character dialogue. Kizzy is less talkative than some of my characters, but she will still be looking to contribute to every conversation. Will be much more business-like in combat.

20. How do you want your character to die?
In bed surrounded by her grandchildren? Lol, seriously, if she must die, let it be in place of someone she cares for.

-Who are you and how are you doing?
I am well. Will hopefully replace my chromebook soon so I can stop reading posts on my 60 in living room TV, lol.

-How often do you tend to post?
At least once a day, more often if there is a lot of in-character conversation.

-What kind of tone are you looking for in this game?
Heart-warming and exciting as friends become closer and support each other through great danger and occasional strife.

-What do you expect out of your fellow players?
To enjoy the game and speak up if I can do anything to make the game more fun for them.

-What do you expect out of me (the GM)?
To give us descriptive scenes to respond to, to enjoy leading the game and to let me know if I can do anything to make the game more enjoyable for you.

-What is your comfort zone? Where's the line for you in RP terms?
I enjoy a debate so my character might be a little argumentative sometimes, but will keep it to a minimum when it would slow down game flow. I’m a mom and can be very sensitive about the subject of abuse, especially concerning children. If we have to find a dead body, definitely prefer it not be a child, ever. I read romance novels sometimes, so unlikely to balk at romance roleplay.

-How do you see your character progressing as a character?
She will grow into herself and become a well-rounded and confident person who strives to protect her friends and those who cannot protect themselves.

Full disclosure, I am GMing a RoTRL group that was orphaned by their GM, so I have the AP and have played some in book 2, but I don't capitalize on player knowledge and it probably won't take long to move ahead of the group I GM as they click along pretty slowly. Thanks for your consideration and let me know if I need to make any adjustments. Will post to reply to the scene shortly. *fingers crossed*

Silver Crusade

Rastaf was excited about his first trip to Sandpoint. He'd never ventured far from Magnimar before, having grown up there with no money, no family, and few friends, other than the acolytes he'd studied with when he first became a worshiper of Sarenrae.

Now, he was an official priest, if only a novice, and looked forward to participating in the dedication of a new cathedral to Sarenrae, among other gods.

He packed up his bedroll and secured his gear, his falchion strapped to his side. He looked fearsome and intimidating, but the half orc was no longer an angry young man, itching for a fight. His faith had changed him, centered him, and made him look at the world in a new way.

Rastaf had always looked out for himself, but the church taught him to look out for others, for in serving others, he served the Dawnflower.

He hummed along with the jolly tune as the travelers resumed their journey, munching on an apple he'd picked up the day before.

He ended up walking alongside a rather tough-looking dwarf who'd been traveling with the group. Looks like the rain has finally let up. I think we'll have a fine time in Sandpoint. My name's Rastaf, cleric of Sarenrae. Picked up some nice apples yesterday. Would you like one?

Still working on him, but the crunch is all there. I made him to play in some PFS PbP, but never did. I'd really rather play him in an adventure like this.

Silbeg, pick your favorite, and throw something against the wall. You can always tweak the class later if you wish, I’m looking for the personality more than anything else for now.

Kronk the Cook, you might consider work at the Hagfish if you prefer simpler fare. The Rusty Dragon is known for their delicacies, and I’m not sure fried cheese and cheap ale is their style. Not saying no, just throwing that out there. If selected we can chat further. :)

Tiasar Soseshtian, I see a drawback which is not required for three traits, but I like it if you decide to keep it. I’m also keen to see what you’ve been doing lately, since leaving Kyonin. Oh, and if you haven’t seen it before, you might have some fun with the spell Fastidiousness with this personality.

Qetsiyah ‘Kizzy’, yeah, cavalier might be tough with tight spaces, indoor work and, later, air walk/flying. I’ve not seen good APs for cavaliers, excepting a good run in Kingmaker, and of course, smaller characters on dog/wolf-back. So you may be without your trusted steed for big chunks if it’s a large critter. No, unfortunately you can’t take two campaign traits, sorry.

Rastaf of Sarenrae, cool background. Tell me more about why you might want to spend time in Sandpoint? What about that small town is attracting you away from Magnimar?

I should also add, I’m OK with people who have played portions of the AP before. It’s an old one, and given the nature of PbP, I imagine lots of folks have gotten part way through. I have in fact made it most of the way through as a player, twice. Naturally, if you have played a section, I hope you’e let me know when we get to it, and please don’t spoil anything or take undue advantage.

Submissions so far:

Hasslo Holt, (needed: background and description, background skills, might be other tweaks)
Seamus Passeri (post), (might have some touch-ups)
Kronk the Cook, (might have some additions)
Tiasar Soseshtian, (let me know when he’s complete.)
Qetsiyah Kizzy (post), (let me know when she’s complete)
Rastaf of Sarenrae, (still working)

If you are not on this list and feel you should be, or there is some other error, please let me know and I’ll correct it. Thanks! Also let me know when your character is more or less complete.
- - -

I'll be doing some role play with you all as well, but hope you'll mostly chat among yourselves. So hopefully someone takes Rastaf up on his apple... you don't even have to be a dwarf. ;)

Background:

Here is the background I wrote for Hasslo for my other campaign.
May tweak some things but gives you a general gist of his character.

Hasslo Holt grew up in the poorest sections of Magnimar. His parents were dock workers. His dad died in a horrific accident when he was young. Hasslo grew up hating the city and would escape into the woods whenever he could. Some rangers took him under their wing and taught him the trade. As he grew up, he started a program to take inner city kids out to the wilderness. Around reaching adulthood, his mother passed away from cancer. About a month later (after dealing with the funeral and such), and with no real connection, Hasslo decides to depart Magnimar to explore more of the world having never been further Sanpoint. First stop on his adventure: Sandpoint - a city he visited only once when he youtng And his visit just happens to coincide with the Swallowtail Festival.

Description:

Hasslo is a short, orange haired dwarf. For some unknown reason, his beard is shorter than it should be. Because of this, Hasslo has looked into studying Trudd and saw several similarities between the deity and him. His gear is somewhat tattered, mainly from overuse. He carries a large wooden shield on his back. Finely crafted, dwarven design. Few would recognize it as a dwarven war shield. On his hip, Hasslo carries a waraxe, also of dwarven design.

When outside of Magnimar, Hasslo beams with joy. He enjoys working with children, especially the poorest and most at need. Nature is Therapeutic is the motto he takes at heart.

Hasslo Holt was born and raised in Magnimar - the City of Monuments. His mother had just recently passed away from cancer. The young dwarf remains lost in thought. His dour expression may put some other people off, but he's lost with out his mother. 'Maybe taking time off to travel will help,' he keeps telling himself.

The dwarf, though a ranger, had rarely made it far outside of Magnimar. His initiative to bring the poorest inhabitants out to the wilderness was a success. But Hasslo felt a calling elsewhere. Too many painful memories in the city and nothing was holding him here. He tied up loose ends in town. While doing so, he had heard rumors of a caravan heading up to Sandpoint for the Swallowtail Festival. 'I'll join that. Maybe I can wander east towards Korvosa. Or even Absolom!'.

The first day was miserable, rain and wet and cold. Hasslo barely even noticed it. On the morrow, a half-orc of Sarenrae turns to Hasslo and offers him an apple. "Why thank you. My mother loved apples. " Her homemade apple pies were some of the best baked goods the dwarf had ever had. He takes a bite and its crisp and flavorful. "I take this as a sign - a sign from my mother that I'm on the right track."

He holds out his hand. "Hasslo Holt at your service. What's taking you to Sandpoint?". His dour expression slowly erodes with a smile slowly emerging.

Hasslo is a ranger. Originally built him to dual-wield Dwarven War Shields but that may change.
Need to play around with him and make sure he fits the specifications!

Alright, I have returned with my submission completely and ready to review. Here he is linked again for ease of reference, Tiasar Soseshtian. The only thing that is not 100% complete is his wealth and gear, but it will remain largely the same and won't have any impact on the character build or fluff. I'm very excited for a chance at this game!

I'm going to respond to particular parts of the recruitment post, putting it all in a spoiler to avoid inserting a wall of text on the thread.

Initial Post Responses:

GM Euan wrote:
Do not worry what the others are playing as it doesn’t matter...Build what you want to play.

Sounds good! Tiasar is my oldest and most cherished character and I know I will have a blast playing him in such a classic adventure path. Also the summoner wizard is my favorite build to play, so mechanically he will be enjoyable as well!

GM Euan wrote:
I want a brisk game, so please carefully consider your commitment.

That sounds wonderful. As I mentioned in my previous post, I am more than capable and willing to post multiple times a day, and I will likely set up RSS feeds to get instant notifications about new posts.

GM Euan wrote:
Please create your character following the standard Pathfinder rules...

Done, everything is in the character sheet and ready to go. For reference I took the "Scholar of the Ancients" campaign trait.

GM Euan wrote:
You’ll start with 200 gp in your pocket, thanks in part to a successful event in your recent past...Whatever it is, please mention it in your background.

Done, I have included it in the "Public Background" spoiler. I have also included a personal accounting of the story in Tiasar's journal, under the "Journal" spoiler. If accepted this spoiler will have more and more entries added to it to chronicle his journey. Hopefully I will get to fill it with many adventures!

GM Euan wrote:
Please write a description (what do people see?) along with a semi-public background (what would someone with a Knowledge, Local DC 15 (link) know about you?). Please also write a detailed background.

Done, see the relevantly named spoilers for details, although I apologize for the length of the background. When I was updating this character for the Golarion setting I did a great deal of setting research and background development.

GM Euan wrote:
I am far more interested in who you are than what you are. In selecting a party I’m going to look more at the background than the statistics.

Tiasar is definitely made to be a character rather than a statblock. With a GM who is so invested in the characters over the numbers, I know I can bring out this old cherished character and have a good time with him.

Campaign Info tab information

I have read over the Campaign Info tab in detail and agree with everything said, from formatting to commitment to expectations to mechanics. No issues, everything looks good.

I really like drawbacks, and I always thought Sheltered was a great choice for Tiasar. He is going to come into this as a "new adventurer", meaning he has never gotten into a real fight or even taken lethal damage before. It's going to be a lot of fun!

For what he has been doing recently, please see the "Journal" and "Public Background" spoilers. I also plan to continue adding journal entries if accepted, and hope to chronicle the entire journey :)

Fastidiousness...wow I can't believe I've never heard of that spell. I love it, I love everything about it. I almost feel like I'm trolling by using one of my precious spell slots on it, but what the hell, that spell is just too perfect not to take.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Let me know if you have any questions or concerns GM Euan. I am a very committed poster who has been starved for games lately and I would absolutely love a chance to be in one of your games.
P.S. I will do some roleplaying with the others once I have another chance to post later tonight :)
Well met, Master Holt. The Sandpoint cathedral is being rededicated, and one of the gods venerated there is mine. I hope to participate, as a representative of Sarenrae, and as a goodwill ambassador to followers of the other five gods worshiped there; Desna, Abadar, Shelyn, Gozreh, and Erastil.
I'm also keen to see the sights. There are many historic ruins of old Thassilon in the area. So much history! Perhaps I'll stay there, if the church needs a hand. If not, I'm not sure what I'll do. Maybe go back to Magnimar, or maybe I'll just keep wandering. Traveling is kinda fun, when the weather cooperates.
Backstory:
The library was quiet, as one would expect. What one would likely not expect is the presence of a fox when the rules clearly indicated no animals were allowed and likely one would expect a librarian to be replacing books on shelves, tending to the needs of patrons, or at least doing something resembling work, yet here she was doing none of those with no fear of consequences. And why did she have such privileges? Simply because she’d asked. She didn’t know why, but people seem very willing to agree to her requests.
Gherix Vainglory, he youngest librarian in the Kaer Maga Library, lounged unlady-like across an over-stuffed chair while her “brother,” the aforementioned fox, lounged on the floor beside the chair. She played with her orangey-brown hair as she read a text on Thassilonian history.
Suddenly, her reading was interrupted as an older halfling man came rushing up to her. Berglin Brumblecusp, head librarian, stumbled to a stop in front of her with the look of an excited child on his round face.
Great news, Gheri!” he gushed.
Whatcha got, Bergy?” she asked her superior in far-too-casual tones.
It’s about your studies!” he said excitedly. “They’re having a festival in Sandpoint to commemorate their new cathedral, so it would be a great excuse for you to travel there and record the event for our records and you’d also be in an area that may have more lore on the ancient societies of Thassilon!!” he said, his words almost spilling over each other.
That’s fantastic!” she said, rising from the chair and stretching, stiff from reading. She then leaned down and gave the little man a kiss on the forehead as she said, “You’ll provide me some travel funds, of course?
After this question, which seemed a bit more like a statement, the Halfling’s eyes seemed to glaze over for a moment, he then immediately nodded vigorously saying, “Is two hundred gold enough?
That should be plenty,” she said with a smile. “I should probably go get packed and ready to go then instead of working the rest of my shift, right?” she asked, already walking toward the door and then calling over her shoulder, “C’mon, Aros,” at which point the fox got up from the floor, stretched himself, and then happily followed after the young woman.
And that’s how she found herself traveling towards Sandpoint with a trade caravan. Traveling for free because she’d asked to, and getting free room and board when they stopped, again, simply by requesting it.
Seated in the back of a wagon, she adjusted her scarf, gave Aros a nice scratch behind his ears, and returned her focus to the text before her. Berglin had, after all, insisted she take all the books she’d requested along with her.
She wasn’t sure what she’d find in Sandpoint. Traveling was new and exciting, but also unknown and terrifying. Still, she felt confident that things would go her way. All she’d have to do is ask.
About Gheri:
Gherix “Gheri” Vainglory is a Kitsune beast-bonded witch. She refers to her fox animal companion, Aros, as her brother. Gheri is a scholar and considers her studies too important for her to trouble herself with work, and therefore, uses her combat hypnosis to suggest others help her out.
Appearance:
Gheri has shoulder-length orangey-brown hair that is very similar to the color of her fox animal companion whom she refers to as ”brother.” She wears glasses, though her vision is fine without them. She typically couples a shorter skirt with long stockings and practical shoes. She typically has a scarf which she wears over a tunic and not uncommonly a vest or short jacket. She has far more the look of a librarian or scholar than adventurer which reflects the reality of her life before her arrival in Sandpoint.
Motivation:
Gheri is driven by her studies and her thirst for knowledge. She is also very confident that things will go her way. She has learned some magic in the course of her studies, but does not understand fully that her “luck” with people is actually the result of a hex. In deeper motivation, however, Gheri has no true friends other than Aros. While she has continually had people catering to her whims, she never really got close to anyone. Therefore, when adventure provides an opportunity to truly connect with her fellow “heroes” (or if some of the townsfolk find a place in her heart), she’ll be dealing with a completely new form of motivation.
About Combat Hypnosis:
This hex works as the spell hypnosis but without a penalty in combat and only lasts for a number of rounds (though the target’s attitude towards her will remain the same after those rounds expire). She will use it in combat, for sure, but will not abuse it in social situations to do things like suggesting the local blacksmith just give us that masterwork greatsword or suggesting that the mayor give her access to the town’s collected tax money. Getting free room and board or convincing an NPC to give us information, however, is totally an option.
Hearing something being offered, Gheri poked her head out of the wagon to see what was going on.
Apples?” asked a young girl with orangey-brown, shoulder-length hair and spectacle perched on her nose. “That sounds lovely!Odd that I didn’t even have to ask to get something from this one, she thought.
I’m Gherix Vainglory,” she said, “but you can call me Gheri. I’m a scholar from Kaer Maga. I’m coming to record the events of the Swallowtail Festival and the dedication of the cathedral. I’d love to accompany you to investigate the ruins, Rasi,” she said, giving the Half-Orc a perhaps unwanted nickname. “You’d like to let me come with you so you can protect me, right?” she said. Strangely, the request sounded a bit more like a statement or even command in the half-Orc’s ears.
Make a DC 15 Will Save, friend :=)
Rastif and GM:
Gheri just used her combat hypnosis hex. If you made the save, you don’t remember that she tried to hypnotize you. If you succeeded, you want to do what was requested for the next few rounds, but it dissipates after that. However, you maintain this protective attitude towards her regarding exploring the ruins. Nothing significant, just role-playing how she manipulates people.
And what brings you to Sandpoint, Hasslo?” she asks, turning her attention to the other man even as a fox comes up beside her and pokes his head out of the wagon.
This is Hrothdane. My submission is in this alias profile. All the non-mechanical stuff at least. This at least gives me enough to start RPing properly :D
A blond woman strides up alongside the priest and the orange dwarf, her shadow falling over the latter. She throws up an easy smile while she folds her arms behind her head. A rapier and buckler dangle off her belt. Her cheeks are flushed red, perhaps from the heat?
"Oh, darling, would you mind sharing one of those apples? I have not eaten something with an actual honest-to-gods color in days."
Description:
Verona would be considered eerily beautiful if not for her utter disinterest in flaunting her appearance. As is, her raven-black hair is an unruly mane of wavy curls that falls down past her shoulders. Like many changelings, she is naturally pale-skinned and is both parts tall and slender. The common changeling trait of heterochromia marks her as well, with her left eye being an emerald green and her right a deep blue. Given her rustic upbringing, she is used to wearing practical clothing: usually kirtles, tunics and cloaks made out of durable materials. Though not picky, she tends to favor black over other colors.
Brief Background and Crunch:
I present for consideration of this fine RotR recruitment, Verona of the Wilds. She's a Changeling Witch I made for a previous RotR game on these forums that unfortunately came to an end, but I believe she'll be a good fit here as well. Her more detailed backstory can be found in her alias page, but I will briefly mention that she's a relatively new inhabitant of Sandpoint who fled from her homeland of Ustalav after she had a dramatic run-in with her hag mother that ended with her adopted mother dead. Currently, she's serving as Hannah Velerin's apprentice in herbology and medicine, which is more or less what one would know about her if they successfully make a successful Knowledge (Local) 15 check. They'd also know she's a changeling from Ustalav, but not the circumstances that lead her to leave home, though, I mention there's a couple unflattering and fear-mongering rumors surrounding the creepy changeling witch who dabbles in alchemy and poison.
Mechanically, she was designed to be an arcane healer and a good debuffer when required. I will have to modify her sheet a little in regard to adding a third trait, upping her to 20 point buy, using spending that extra 200 gold, and maybe changing some other things around, but all in all, much of her stuff is good to go when it comes to her mechanical concept.
Verona was cleaning a vial as her mind wandered. The changeling was dressed comfortable for the upcoming autumn, a snug kirtle and a warm cloak around her back. Said cloak made all the difference when a cold rain came upon the caravan on the first day. Others had not been so wise and had dressed thinly as if summer would never end. Hence the reason why she had just finished attending to a wet-nosed child that had been sneezing up a storm since the day began.
She was nervous in truth. Not because of the boy. He'd be fine once he got more rest. No, it was the trip itself that made her so. She had gone to Magnimar to buy some herbs Hannah wanted that could not be found in her garden or the nearby wilds of Sandpoint. It was mostly uneventful trip, but the act had filled her with apprehension regardless. After all, being around strangers was still a relatively new thing for her, let alone going to a whole city with so many of them. Even so, a part of still relished seeing some many interesting new people. After all, Magnimar was a great city, filled with diverse peoples from across Varisia and beyond. A changeling such as herself was downright ordinary in such a place.
The caravan was little different in that way. Indeed, when the herbalist was done with putting away her medical equipment, she spied a large yet jovial seeming half-orc chat with a nearby dwarf. Such a thing was rather innocuous, but Verona's mismatched eyes saw that the half-orc had the look of a cleric of Sarenrae, the goddess of healing.
Curious about the man, and hopeful that he was another healer like herself, Verona forced herself to walk over to him and his companion and asked as if he was, doing so in her thick Ustalav accent. "Hello, good sir. My name is Verona. Verona of the Wilds. Did I hear you correct? A Sarenite you are? Coming to Sandpoint for the festival, da? Tell me, are you a healer as vell?"
Rolling a will save before we even start. LOL!
Pleased to meet you, Gherix Vainglory. I will be happy to protect you, though I imagine you can take pretty good care of yourself.
Rastaf produces some more apples for whoever wants one, and hands one to the blond woman. Here you go. They're very good.
He turns to Verona. I can do some healing, yes, though I am new to my calling. No need for it, at the moment. We've been lucky so far, and everyone seems to be in good shape. Would you like an apple?
I love the idea. I just knew of the Rusty Dragon, but I will research the Hagfish as it seems like the *perfect* place for Kronk. Thanks for the idea! And yes, I very much appreciate these GM insights to improve my story.
@Rastaf-Glad you enjoyed it :=) Nothing like hex-based manipulation attempts to start a friendship, eh?
Gheri looks with curiosity at the gal with the mismatched eyes. Hearing her introduce herself as a healer, Gheri immediately jumps into the conversation.
"A healer? Fantastic! I know some healing magics myself. Not divine stuff like my friend Rasi might use, though. Mine's a bit more arcane."
She then does what a researcher does best: pry into other people's business, "So tell me, Ronnie, what brings you to Sandpoint?" as she once again gives a perhaps unwelcome nickname to a new acquaintance.
Meg actually draws her rapier and stabs the apple right out of Rastaf's hand, taking care not to do so without letting the point of her sword ever point directly at him. "Thanks, darling. You may call me Meg, by the by. What do you go by?"
Sense Motive DC26:
Bluff: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
Whether or not Meg is alright to call her, it's probably not her name
Keeping the apple on the sword, she takes a crunchy bite out of the apple and nods her head in approval. "Ah! It is as though you can taste the color on it." She throws up a cockier smile this time. "So, you say they worship five gods there? I didn't hear The Lucky Drunk's name amongst them. Why would they leave out the best one, hmm?"
Silver Crusade
Hoga is amused by "Meg's" swordplay, and grins as she deftly takes it.
Hi, Meg. I'm Rastaf. I guess Cayden Cailean's not as popular in Sandpoint as in some other places. I'm sure he has a following there. Probably at least a shrine. Or a tavern.
So you may be without your trusted steed for big chunks if it’s a large critter. No, unfortunately you can’t take two campaign traits, sorry.
Yes, I suspected as much. There are some Cavalier archetypes that give up mount... What would you think of a Sister in Arms (Knight?) of the Scarlet Rose? She could have either been mentored by a Gray Maiden who became a Caravan guard like her background lists or perhaps there is a Chapter of them in Magnimar. If the archetype works for you, I will adjust whatever fluff necessary to make it work. I think it synergizes really well with her original character concept and keeps the Order of the Dragon from the previous build. ^_^
I will also be reverting her back to a 16 Str, 16 Dex build since the Dex build is just too expensive without Elephant in the Room. So the description on this profile is the better one, minus the level 7 equipment. XD
I will properly edit the profile once her crunch is finalized.
A young Varisian woman strode by, or perhaps clamored by would be a better word for it, in her armor with weapons on her back, slogging through the muddy track. Her shoulder length hair is deep auburn waves and shines red in the sun, an effect accentuated by the scarlet Varisian scarf she wears in her hair. "Hey, you guys have food! Fruit even. I picked out all the raisins in my trail mix last night. May I?" She asked with what she hoped was an ingratiating smile. Her face seemed naturally disposed toward scowling and it did a bit every time her gaze shifted toward the treeline or down at her muddy boots.
"Hmm? Oh, what brings me to Sandpoint? Just visiting a few friends. Our Caravan passed through here pretty often, so I know a few of the townsfolk. Do you know Ameiko Kaiitsu over at The Rusty Dragon? Yeah, she wrote and invited me to come and see the festival. I'm Qetsiyah, by the way. Or Kizzy, if that's too much of a mouthful." She laughed and took a bite of apple, provided Rastaf gave her one.
Wow, lots of posts just while I typed this. ^_^ Left mine a little open-ended so as not to infringe on any on going conversations.
Verona looked at the apple inquisitively as if it held some mysterious power within. In a way it did. "Apples are an excellent source of nutrients and can help in the easing of diarrhea, constipation, even some cancers," she explained clinically, as if it was the most normal thing to say in the world. She really couldn't help herself when it came to such things. It was just how she was.
Seeing that Rastaf was still waiting for an answer, she finally took the apple and stored it in her satchel. "Da. I want one. Thank you, sir cleric."
Though her mind was still listing all the health benefits of regular apple consumption, Verona did not fail to notice Gheri's admittance of her arcane capabilities. Verona turned to the woman and looked her over as if she was a mystery in need solving. Forgetting to even introduce herself, the witch proceeded to bombard Gheri with questions. "You use ze arcane to heal as well? So do I. Tell me, how did you come into your power? Ve're you taught it? I vas. Do you have a familiar? I do. He's a frog. What's your opinion physical materials when it comes to healing spells? Most don't require them, but I wonder if unicorn blood could amplify their effectiveness?"
Gheri enjoyed listening to Verona's enthusiasm, but didn't miss that she avoided answering the question about her business in Sandpoint. Hmm, pretty and a mystery. Quite intriguing, this one, she thought to herself.
"Yes, Ronnie, I use arcane magics for healing. I'm a scholar, so I've learned a lot about magic from my studies, but I wouldn't have found so much without help from my brother here," she says, scratching the fox behind the ear. "His name's Aros."
She then ponders the questions put to her and after a thoughtful moment chimes in, "I've actually heard gold can be used to enhance healing magic, but only arcane. Won't work with divine magic for some reason." She then adds with a wink,"And gold's easier to track down than unicorns."
She then takes note of the newest arrival to what has grown to be quite a conversation circle and throws a smile her way. "Heya, Kizzy! What has you heading to Sandpoint?"
During the Caravan Journey
"Hmph." The caravan is well underway when a sound of disinterested irritation comes from inside one of the cushioned wagons. The rear opens and a figure stoops down to clear their tall frame. A tall, thin elf emerges, moving down daintily into the accumulating muck. He has silver hair, pale skin, and sky blue eyes. His hair is neatly parted to either side with most of it tucked behind his ears. His appearance is immaculate and he has a certain softness about him, giving the impression of somebody who's not used to hardship. Despite the damp and dreary conditions, the elf seems somehow immune to the effects of the weather, miraculously shedding the muck on the road and staying bone dry. A small red-tinged raven rests on his shoulder, so still it almost seems a statue, some kind of eccentric clothing ornament.
The elf looks around at the people shuffling through the muck with a gaze of triumph, as if he just achieved something difficult of importance. He looks around at those walking with the caravan, taking a measurable pause on each one, earning himself a few uncomfortable or annoyed looks in response. He trudges along through the muck with the others, taking keen interest in his surroundings and continuing to look like a pristine noble despite the weather conditions.
Present
The thin elf continues to walk with the others. His legs seem to be sore from the previous days of walking, but a look of privileged determination is on his face as he continues to trek on foot. Even now the dust of the road sheds off his clothing like water, even the sweat that gathers on his brow slides cleanly off without leaving a mark. It's like he's the incarnation of what a sheltered noble thinks traveling on the road is like.
The talk of fresh apples and Thassilonian ruins peek the elf's interest. He joins the gathering crowd to take advantage of the half-orcs generosity. "Fresh fruit is a welcome, I miss having it easily available. But one can hardly argue with the efficiency of drying it." He stoops down over the apples and examines the bunch. A long pause passes, and he continues to examine the bunch, eyes scanning over them as if he's trying to find some kind of secret hidden in the red fruit. Finally he reaches down and neatly plucks the nicest-looking apple from the bunch. "Your gift is appreciated. As is your interest in the Thassilonian ruins. I wish to explore them myself, I have heard promising stories of what they contain." He continues to examine the apple for a moment, then takes a dainty bite.
The raven's head suddenly turns and Tiasar jumps as a blade flashes out, stabbing an apple. He looks down at the thin blade and follows it back to the blonde woman holding its hilt. The raven's eyes bore into the blonde woman uncomfortably, but after looking back to the half-orc and seeing him grin, the elf relaxes. He falls into silence and takes the role of a wallflower, not speaking much but clearly listening to the conversation of the others. But when the talk of healing magic and augmenting properties comes up he leans forward with an eager and curious expression. "Hmm, a fascinating theory. I suppose devil blood is used for a certain branch of arcane healing, so one could draw a parallel that some kind of good-aligned blood could be used for a similar purpose, although one would think it would be a good outsider instead of a unicorn. However unicorns do have potent healing abilities. I wonder if one could convince them to willingly participate..." He ponders the thought, face going blank as he stares into the distance for a brief moment. "Now gold I had not heard of." He suddenly says, turning to Gherix. "Although arcane sources of power do have the potential to heal, I would argue the difficulty and cost makes it more efficient to leave healing to those with divine gifts. Of course there's no accounting for availability of such an individual during times of need." The entire time the raven has been staring at Meg, head rotating on a swivel to stay locked on her.
Hoga is amused by "Meg's" swordplay, and grins as she deftly takes it.
Hi, Meg. I'm Rastaf. I guess Cayden Cailean's not as popular in Sandpoint as in some other places. I'm sure he has a following there. Probably at least a shrine. Or a tavern.
She finishes chewing another crunch of her apple. "A shame. I do find His presence adds a bit of color to the surroundings. And as we have just established, color is always a good thing."
Qetsiyah "Kizzy" wrote:
Meg's ears immediately pick up the mention of more food. "Why, hello there, Ms. Qetsiyah." She pronounces the name perfectly. Her elocution tutor would have been proud. "You would not happen to still have any of those raisins, would you darling? I would be happy to take them off your hands." Meg may have spent a bit more than she intended of the money that Sapphira gave her on gear and not left enough for food. At least not the quality of food that she is accustomed to. She does her best to disguise the dread that comes over her as she reminds herself of why she is stuck out on the road to Sandpoint in the first place. A woman in her thirties pawning free food off of strangers! Of her station!! Mother would be aghast. Well, everyone was already aghast of her, so might as well carry on. But ye gods, she could use a drink. A nice strong glass of Corentyn Red. Or perhaps bottle.
This sounds very cool, dotting
Maybe we could keep the RP in spoilers? It’s getting a little hard to see the recruitment part itself. Thanks!
Verona of the Wilds, cautionary note - if selected you’ll have to change your race. I want to stick to the core races for this campaign.
Qetsiyah ‘Kizzy’, a little tricky as good Queen Ileosa hasn’t made her move yet (Crimson Throne starts later), but we can make it work. After all, Korvosa’s not that far away. We can come up with some other cadre perhaps. If I recall, the head of the town guard is a strong woman. She might have developed a team that fits the bill prior to the Gray Maidens.
Submissions so far:
Hasslo Holt
Seamus Passeri (post), (might have some touch-ups)
Kronk the Cook, (might have some additions)
Tiasar Soseshtian
Qetsiyah Kizzy (post), (let me know when she’s complete)
Rastaf of Sarenrae, (still working)
Gherix Vainglory (post)
Margareta ‘Meg’ Alekto
Verona of the Wilds (race change)
If you are not on this list and feel you should be, or there is some other error, please let me know and I’ll correct it. Thanks!
@GM Euan--I had done Gheri as a Kitsune. Do I need to "reskin her" as a Core race, or is she ok? Just asking since you specifically mentioned it for Verona and I didn't know if Gheri's omission was because it was fine or just because it snuck past since she is basically just in her human form all the time.
Ahhh, Gherix, sorry, I missed she was Kitsune. Yeah, if selected, you'll need to switch her over to a core race as well. At this point I'm just skimming the characters and just missed your race.
And stat block done, too. It's in her profile :D Let me know if there are any questions or issues! I'll just keep RPing in the meantime
Hi GM! Kronk here. I completed the profile, adding a full background matching the adjusts we talked about. Thanks! Let me get a little bit of the RP going on.
RP:
On the corner of the caravan was a short, fat and bald man, apparently deeply sleeping. Almost middle-aged, he was dressed as a commoner, and smelled like cheese and sweat. From times, as the wagons would shake, he seemed to gently smile, but then would go back to his somewhat noisy slumber. In truth, he was well awake, just paying swift attention to the conversations around.
He always loved the chatting of the young adventurers; great stories and hopes, a little bit of daring, and a lot of naivety. Who would dress as a clergyman in Magnimar? Even if the city nowadays was a lot more lenient than over a decade ago, there were still a good chunk of people very much against any demonstrations of faith. He had learned better to keep his faith in Pharasma a secret, for instance, and would keep from engaging the religious subject within the walls of the City of Monuments: even if it was one of the few subjects he could at least understand behind his dislexya.
Of course there were temples there to the most known gods; even a Pharasmian one. The city wasn't completely godless. But he remembered well the conflicts of the past and the terror stories, and nowadays he was much more a survivalist than a man of faith. This, of course, reminded him of the Swallowtail Festival: he was getting back to Sandpoint after some days of leisure, and a lot of work was waiting for him behind the ovens in preparation for the celebrations in the name of Desna.
At this point, he turned his body around. Ah!, he thought, how he envied the relative freedom of the life of adventurers. Arcane magic, spells, unicorns, demonic blood... How could such a conversation, in such a brief period of time, involve topics so distant and at the same time so powerfully interesting? Oh well..., he shrudded, this wasn't his life. He was happy with what he had.
Dotting. Going to be reading through everything and thinking up a concept, although...
@Painlord: Hey, you probably don't remember me but we were in a Curse of the Crimson Throne game waaaay back when. I still remember Tristan the Chalker and a post where you were joking about using cheeto dust to paint on your monitor still gives me a smile to this day whenever I remember it. Glad to see your doing well and I hope that we can have some fun together.
A human swashbuckler submission! More details to follow, especially upon working with potential fellow PC's
RP:
A man in a battered, but once dashing red outfit saunters up to the caravan. He looks the part of your standard swashbuckler, but for one key difference. Around his waist was not a slender rapier, but a heavy morningstar! He approaches Kronk casually, "Howdy old timer! I hope you don't mind me saying, but you smell delightfully of cheese, and I got a hankering for something good to eat." As if on queue, the man's stomach rumbles, and he laughs goodnaturedly. "I like to get along with the people who know where the good food's at. Let me buy you an apple, and maybe an ale or two, and we can chew the fat. I don't know about this lot with their unicorns and their devils, but I know I'd like to duel a devil myself someday!"
RP:
Gheri is delighted as the conversation has turned in a direction where she's done some research. "Hold on," she says, holding up a finger to encourage the others to give her just a minute. She disappears into the wagon and then reappears almost immediately with a book in her hands and is already flipping through pages as she begins, "Well, you see, the usage of gold is not uncommonly unknown for arcane casters as it was actually an alchemical discovery and as I was perusing through some texts like Vellard Minsdale's Treatise on Alchemical Reagents I stumbled upon YES! Here it is!" and she holds up the text showing some intersecting circles with arcane markings around them. "As you can see, an application of about five gold pieces worth as a focusing implement while casting a healing spell will actually increase the amount healed, but if you'll note," she adds, pointing to a disconnected circle on the diagram, "it doesn't overlap into the realm of the divine." She then stops suddenly and says, "Sorry, I get excited sometimes. Didn't mean to just go off like that. So, Tiasar," she says, trying to think of a good nickname for the Elf but coming up with nothing, "are you heading to Sandpoint specifically to explore the ancient ruins?" and as she asks, she reaches up and begins playing with her hair.
