Looking for a couple more PCs for a renewal of my old Wheel of Time campaign. There was a 4 year break from the last post to today, so talking to the PCs (that are still active on here) we'd start off with a new adventure because so much time has passed.

So, we have for the group:

an Aiel Wise One channeler
A Ebou Dari Wilder and Armswoman
An Asha'man channeler

We do have an Aiel Algai'siswai (fulfills fighter role), but he has said that he will be delayed in joining the group for a little bit

we will be using the Wheel of time RPG book for character classes and races. (ie Andoran Armsman, Tearian Noble, etc)

below i will also list some of the hybrid rules that have been adapted for this style of play from both WOTrpg and pathfinder.

Character creation rules:
30 point buy
Each PC starts with 200 Marks to buy gear with.
Max Hit points for all PCs.
Level 5

hybrid rule structure skill change:
Skill Changes:
Update old 3.0 list to Pathfinder list:
Acrobatics – old balance, jump, and tumble
Composure – Combines Concentration and WoT channeling skill Composure (change made by Rizzen)
Handle Animal – now includes Animal Empathy
Linguistics – old Decipher Script, Forgery, and Speak Language
Disable Device – includes old Open Lock
Diplomacy – includes old Gather Info
Stealth – combines old hide and move silently
Perception – combines old Search, Spot, and Listen
Survival – combines old Intuit Direction and Wilderness Lore
Sleight of Hand – combines old Pick Pocket and Use Rope

New Skill List:
Acrobatics
Appraise
Bluff
Climb
Composure
Craft
Diplomacy
Disable Device
Disguise
Escape Artist
Handle Animal
Heal
Innuendo
Intimidate
Knowledge
Linguistics
Perception
Perform
Pick Pocket
Profession
Read Lips
Ride
Sense Motive
Sleight of Hand
Stealth
Survival
Swim

we are using background skills

note:we will be using the sword forms skill found in the addon booklet, Under the dragon's banner. a link is found at the bottom of this post.

feats:

*Use Pathfinder Feat Progression (i.e. 1 new feat at every odd level as opposed to every third level)
*Use Pathfinder version of feats. Any pathfinder feat not related to Pathfinder magic is fair game. (Change made by Rizzen)

Traits:
people are allowed to have a trait, but the flavor text will need to be rewritten to fit the WOT narrative. the actual game benefits remain the same

If you chose to make a channeler, the progression of learning weaves is a bit slow for initial character build in the rule book, so instead you can learn 5+linked attribute weaves per level, so long as you meet the minimum requirements (level, affinity, talent)

Additional materials:
these netbooks have additional material, classes, feats, weaves, etc that are allowed for creating and leveling your character

Under the dragon's banner

House rules created since 2012. take a read through

i know im forgetting some things, but like i said, Im a bit rusty at this. But, with a bit of time and proper research, this should be a hell of a lot of fun!!!!!

Liberty's Edge

Definitely dotting though I’m unfamiliar with the rule set so I’m not sure how long it will be for me to put together an application. What’s the timeline you are aiming for?

I really enjoyed the books and setting and the RPG was pretty top-notch back in the day. let me see what I can come up with...

What time period are you thinking about running it in?

Setting is end of book 8, winters heart. Scene, your characters are part of when Rand cleanses Saidan.

Timeline, we got 2 weeks. Ill be gone camping next, but will be able to help answer questions.

Any idea which society the Aiel will be playing? So many options...

I love this setting - currently in the middle of Fires of Heaven in a series reread.

I am not familiar with the RPG ruleset for this so would likely need some assistance to setup the character

And which version of Aiel Algai'siswai would you be using? I'm mocking up a couple characters and seeing which I like best.

GM:
This is the new alias of Chen, after a year+ hiatus from these forums. Glad to see you running again, that was still one of my favorite campaigns I've ever participated in. Hope you're doing well in light of all the global madness.

Fia was a Maiden, Rhoekk is Tardaad aiel. He created his own class for his character. I looked it over, and approved it.

What you mean, version of aiel?

Dude! Gonna bust out Chen again? Or build something new?

I meant version of the class, but saw your errata on your page you posted!

How long would this be after the initial game, I think that it would be at least a few months later, and I would be missing a leg lol.

yeah, it'd be about 4-5 months after the destruction of the White Tower.

Are the other players you have people from the other game or new characters?

GM:
I.e are they level 12 or 13 as chen would be? Also, I believe we had discussed Chen having/ getting some sort of prostetic foot?

Love the idea. I actually built a similar Pathfinder adaptation for the Wheel of Time RPG but I could never get a game off the ground.

Just checking if this is still Pathfinder 1.0?

This is WOTrpg/pathfinder 1.0/ homebrewed rules

@deathmetaldragon they are level 12

Chen could get a prostetic leg

I'm between a Saldean Blademaster and a Aiel Stone Dog (using the progression out of the netbook), any thoughts on which or both could work if accepted?

I can't find the pdf of the WoTrpg rules. I know I used to have a way to look at it, if any of you have a decent link, post it please. That would help me out immensely.

Chen, I believe you will find this helpful

This sounds good, love me some Wheel of Time. Been a while since I last read them though.

That said, would you allow an Ogier character? The character would be a young and, by Ogier standards, rash Ogier. He'd be very angry about the how the Blight has taken Steddings in the past in will take more if they don't act. In addition he'd be inspired by the stories about Seanchan Ogier and is very, very curious about them.

Seeing as how I am a Seanchan Ogier, and we had a more traditional one named Amorial in the last game, I imagine that would be fine, although I cannot in totality speak for Rizzen.

Somehow I completely missed that.

Now to figure out if I can create something similar to the Verdant Grappler Brawler found in standard PF stuff. The idea being that the character has a talent for Treesinging but uses it in what his kin consider a wasteful way.
It would also deal with the character's reluctance to actually use manufactured weapons by instead having him punch people.

I would recommend looking into all the Awesome blow monster feats, They are cool and available to large characters usually. If I had more feats I would take them myself.

hey everyone, im back from the camping trip...need to respond to these questions...

@cuan: sounds like a very interesting build. I like the character idea. A young ogier who hears about these seanchan gardeners....im trying to rememeber which book has the first mention of the Ogier Gardeners, but screw it, we can say that he heard about them, somehow.

@torilgrey, either will work. it's up to you as to what you want to play.

Sovereign Court

Should we build the character on Pathfinder 1 rules and then make changes based on the above addenda? For instance, skills, are they 1 rank per level with a +3 bonus for class skills, or the old 4 ranks at first level?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Galahad0430, the skills follow Pathfinder one style with the + 3 bonus for class.

Thanks for the response Rizzen, I think I should be properly built now.
Also, am I now clear to join the gameplay thread, I should have still been with the group from Tar Valon unless someone decided to arrest me(Justifiably so).

Also, if I could have stats for that huge ass shield I picked up in the tower?

I'm leaning to the Saldean Armsman headed to Blademaster, I'll convert and submit in the next few days. Gives a broader mix of backgrounds and RP angles I think. :D

I'm still fidgeting with my class, more or less stuck between Woodsman and Armsman.

The latter probably fits a bit better with your general Ogier but the latter works better with punching people, especially since I need a decent amount of feats for it.
I'll also be taking the Wilding feats to help emphasise his untrained martial prowess, ties to the natural world and make him punch harder.

Now to think of possible style feats that actually would fit an Ogier, if any.

Troligrey, with the swordform skills, the prc blademaster is pretty much nullified

Oh okay! Well then I don't have to sweat getting a masterwork sword with starting coin :D LOL

K, I'll redraft and go again at it!

Remember that Armsman uses PF fighter feat prog. So it's even slightly better than the book.

I pivoted away from the Saldean idea, it wasn't speaking to me, so here's a submission for a Stone Dog:

Jedric, of the Tardaard Aiel:

Jedric Tardaard Aiel of the Chumai Sept, Stone Dog
Wood 2/ALG 2/Arms 1

Str 16 (10)
Dex 17 (10pt) +Level 4
Con 14 (6)
Int 10 (2)
Wis 10 (2)
Cha 8
HP 60/60
BAB 5 Init:+11
Fort 4 Ref 3 Will 0
Defense +7 AC: 20
Reputation: 1
Favored Enemy: Trolloc; Track, Fast Move (40’), Partial Imp Init (+4), Dance the Spears (+2 Init), Uncanny dodge, Unarmed Strike, Hardiness (DC 15 con check 1/day to ignore fatigue), Spears of Death (Flurry +6/+6)
Feats: Background Blooded (+2 Init) Power Attack (1), Run (3), Weapon Focus (Aiel Spear)(5), Combat Reflexes (Arms)
Skills 6+6+4+4+4+ Background skill (Stealth)= 24
Acrobatics 3+3+3
Climb 3+3+3
Heal 2+0+3
Stealth 4+3+3
Intimidate 3-1+3

Linguistics 2 (Stone Dog hand)+0

Aiel spear +9 1d6+3 [18-20x2] range 30
Gear: Aiel shortbow, 20 arrows, buckler, Aiel Spear x2, 490 MK

I think I built it correctly, I didn't spend coin, or write up a background yet, but I wanted to get the crunchy parts out first. Thanks!

Remember that Armsman uses PF fighter feat prog. So it's even slightly better than the book.

Only downside of it all is I need to spend feats for armor proficiency as Ogier nixes what I get from class. Combine that with a -4 to Dex from Ogier and the lower defense bonuses from Armsman and I'll be very squishy without seriously investing. I'd also need to spend them for weapon proficiency beyond simple, but that's where punching people helps.

Now I could cheese this tremendously by grabbing 1 level of another class and then starting Armsman at 2nd level as that way I would get all proficiencies. Wanderer 1 / Armsman 4 might be the best way to go as a result (Woodsman instead of Wanderer would probably be stronger but also less fitting).

Ogier also get 4 skill ranks in a knowledge or profession skill or linguistics (decipher script in the old version) and makes it a class skill. I guess that changes to 1 rank and class skill, considering how the skill ranks work in PF? Asking because it isn't part of rework linked at the top (Ogier Warders are, giving my character an extra goal).

I am using a revised version of the Seanchan Ogier from Under the Dragon's banner/Rizzen mod.

As per UtdB Seanchan Ogier don't get the +4 for knowledge and crafting but have all those feats and profs unrestricted for them.

And because Dex plunge is hugely horrible for any character I was allowed at racial stat base of

+4 STR
-2 INT
-2 WIS
-2 CHA

Which helped immensely, though it REALLY solidified how gruff/generally unfriendly I am stat wise lol. Whether or not that's available to you as an Ogier from the mainland, I'm unsure.

To be honest, I wouldn't even want that drop to mental stats and am generally fine with the Dex dump. I'm not looking at making my character gruff at all. He'd be a very gregarious and curious individual. Maybe a bit like a Pathfinder Gnome at roughly a third of the Gnome's speed.

It's purely the combination of the Dex dump and no armor proficiency for me. But I'll likely solve that with multiclassing.
Concept wise his Wanderer level(s) would represent his early life, before breaking away from the Ogier norm. As such I'd only get 1 or 2 levels in that class.

@RIZZENMAGUS: Which level should I build? At the top you say 5th but in later posts you mention higher levels.
