Ela Kukai |
Wow. Glad to hear it was negative!
Okay, so since we're all "sync'd up" now, we should keep to our current groups and pick rooms.
Elris, what do you say, B9?
Elris Kayne |
Sounds good to me. I really want to try and find a vessel for the guardian and B11 looks like it may be a good choice for that. We can go there next though. Or the others can as well. Secret rooms are always fun.
GM Bret |
Also is there a way to use my mnemonic cache to get a bonus on these?
Mnemonic Cache (Su): You can memorize a piece of information and later recall it perfectly. Your mnemonic cache can hold roughly 10 pages of written information, including images and maps, or 30 minutes’ worth of speech or music. (Memorizing music doesn’t confer the ability to perform it properly.) The amount you can store increases by 5 pages and 5 minutes at 2nd level, and at every psychic level thereafter. You can hold only one piece of information in your mnemonic cache at a time. The information doesn’t go away when you recall it, but when you put a new piece of information in the cache, the old piece becomes as imperfect any other memory. Memorizing magical writing (such as a scroll or a page from a spellbook) doesn’t confer the ability to borrow, duplicate, or retain any of the magic in the writing. You could reproduce the spell in writing to allow someone who prepares spells from a spellbook to prepare it, though this functions as using a borrowed spellbook for anyone other than you. If you’re in telepathic contact with another creature (through telepathic bond, for example), you can transfer the information directly into its mind as a free action. For this creature, the information functions like a normal memory, not one with perfect clarity.
I figure it's worth a bonus on transcribing stuff down because I can perfectly store 20 pages worth of written pages at a time.
Yes, you can use it.
Reading through it a little more carefully, this is a power that you get at first level and improves with each Psychic level. It is tied to your Discipline. There are no limits on how often you can use it, just how much you can store.
The texts you are going through are much larger than you could completely hold in your Mnemonic Cache. I think the best way to handle this is assume you are using it to speed up your copying of information -- basically memorize the bits that are important and then write them from memory.
Does +1 for every 10 pages sound reasonable?
Elris Kayne |
Also, don't forget the Elixir of Vision Igor.
GM Bret |
GM, can we roll something to come up with ideas to hide our presence or eradicate the impact we had so far during our search?!
There are no rolls as such.
Look at your skills, abilities and equipment. If you have something that would help hide where you have been or somehow interfere with an investigation of what happened tonight, I'm always willing to hear out creative solutions.
In the one room where it was obvious everything was laid out in a certain way, I did allow rolls to place everything back where it was found.
If you had some way to at least not make it so apparent that something happened in the hallway, that might help. You would still have the problem that the caretaker must have heard the noises of that last combat, but since they haven't met you they can't describe you.
The Guardian has seen you, but right now likes you. You might want to suggest that it not tell all when questioned tonight.
Don't steal stuff that would be noticed.
Elris Kayne |
Yeah, here is hoping the Guardian leaves with us then that problem will be solved. Elris, the character is definitely invested in that line of the scenario.
Do any of the casters have Presdigitation?
GM Bret |
The muscial definition just gets into the specifics, including notation.
The Guardian is built into the wall. It offered to send a portion of it's essence with you if you found an acceptable repository.
Elris Kayne |
Sorry if I miss things or ask a lot of questions. I always find these type of encounters to be a challenge to roleplay and work through. Tougher to separate the pieces of the puzzle I am putting together and the ones my character would. Been combing through the posts to refresh my memory on a lot of it.
Grelthe, the singing Paladin |
I don't know how to make a link to a single post (bottom of page 3), but I can quote it:
Many of the rooms have portraits, but not every. The pictures are not identical. You've only read the plaque on one of them as I recall.
Since you expressed interest, I will assume you are checking the plaques on each.
B3
The brass plaque on the frame of the portrait reads "To serve Taldor, I must first learn the history of Taldor."
B4
The brass plaque on the frame reads "Persevere, Persevere, Persevere"
B8
Will give a room description separately. There is no portrait or brass plaque in this room.
B9
Will give a room descriptions separately. There is no portrait or brass plaque in this room.
B10
The brass plaque on the frame reads "A cunning lie is never told twice."
Toral Kargar |
Regarding our tracks:
Maybe we can scrub all the areas or use magic to clean the floors so that we do not leave tracks.
Regarding the book swarm:
Do we have magic that repairs?
The lion:
We have to make a deal that it does not tell anybody about us if we really take part of it with us.
The other person who is still in this complex: maybe we totally avoid that room? Or do you think there’s a clue in that room?
And everything we now do: careful to leave no tracks?
Elris Kayne |
Oh I, the player, knows there has to be something useful in that office but also the person. Perhaps we can split into two, one in group with the more charismatic people into the office then the others use the clue cards to make quick work of B8.
Grelthe, the singing Paladin |
That or we guess. There is only 1 left. Though I like the idea of using both potions on 1 person to go in the caretaker room, personally.
Grelthe, the singing Paladin |
Did we have time to find any books in B11? Or did combat start almost immediately? Should we do our rolls over again?
Ela Kukai |
Oh, should we have extended our time in B11 to get one of the auto-clues in 15m or whatever?
Elris Kayne |
Since Grelthe stopped me to talk I can just focus on guessing with them instead of splitting us again. That way we can continue with B11 and beyond.
Grelthe, the singing Paladin |
So it seems like a good place to take a vote on whether we should go into the caretaker's room (B7) or not:
- YES, whole party, in an obvious manner
- YES, 1 person with sneaky potions
- NO, ignore the room and guess at the puzzle/trap
...but for now since people are still rolling for research let's split into 2 groups of 3 again so we can search 2 rooms at once? That should give everyone time to weigh in on the caretaker's room and puzzle/trap
Elris Kayne |
I agree that someone should either use both Potions (Pass Without Trace and Invisibility) to research that room using the biggest clue bonuses, hopefully finding the last plaque. If not Elris will take his guess at the statues while we work in B11.
We also have a Potion of Vision that needs to be used by one of our casters that Elris mentioned.
GM Bret |
Could someone please sort through the character actions and tell me who is researching in which rooms?
Links to their research rolls would be nice as well.
I like the discussion of the puzzle, but it has made it difficult for me to track who wants to be researching where. I can't even reference the map since most people aren't in a room right now.
Grelthe, the singing Paladin |
Updated Grelthe's location on the map
Ela - B8
Grelthe - B11
Toral - didn't specify
Igor - said whatever Grelthe picked, if someone is going to B8 he should probably go too due to his AMAZING memory
Elris - hasn't rolled research yet, last post conversing with Grelthe over puzzle in B11
Iacopo - hasn't rolled research yet, last post conversing with Grelthe over puzzle in B11
Maybe it would be best if we determine some sort of research marching orders? Like teams or something? Either 2 teams of 3, or 3 teams of 2. Just an idea, IDK
Also sorry if I am making too many posts, I just have a lot of time on my hands and the research rules make sense to me, so I am just trying to help, but I can back off if it is not helpful! Just let me know.
GM Bret |
Thank you for that summary with links, Grelthe! If this were PF2 I would be awarding a hero point for the help.
Don't feel like you shouldn't post. I want people to post their theories and plans. I want people to role-play.
I also would like clear indications of where people are doing their research so that I don't have to infer anything. I don't mind if someone says they are following another character, it tells me what I need to know assuming the other character clearly states where they are going.
Two groups of 3 is more efficient than 3 groups of two. The groups of three divide time by three rather than two.
Toral Kargar |
Toral helps Ela.
You are posting not too often. :-)
Grelthe, the singing Paladin |
If Igor goes to B8 too, that means there are 3 there and 3 left in B11 - but we are lower level overall in B11 so I would suggest using one of the 2 clues that benefit everyone in the whole room - either +2 to each roll (Esoteric Alphabetization) or roll 2x (magical assistance)?
Elris Kayne |
Yeah, I posted a few things but they were contingent on what we decided as a group. In time constrained things its harder to just make a decision in PbP because you don't have anyone that disagrees saying so, in real time before you roll. Like with him going to the room or taking his guess with the statues.
Toral Kargar |
I am also flexible. If you want you can just assume that Toral chooses the room where it makes most sense organizationally.
Grelthe, the singing Paladin |
So right now it sounds like we have Ela, Toral & Igor in B8, and Grelthe, Elris & Iacopo in B11. Does that sound okay to everyone? Can we continue with checks now?
Still have not got a consensus on caretaker's room/guessing at the puzzle/trap
Elris Kayne |
That might be the best way to knock out this room and us get out of dodge, if we want to avoid the caretaker's room altogether. B10 isn't crossed out so that may have some clues left too.
Elris Kayne |
On this set of rolls we need to use clues while we have the chance:
Rolls twice and takes higher (An Exciting Read)
+5 to Roll (Bibliographic References)
+3 to Roll (Hand-Written Notes)
+3 to Roll (Prolific Author)
+3 to Roll (Cross Reference)
After we all roll in a room we can re-roll if we want. (Magical Assistance)
Or at least those are the ones that don't say used on the slides, B12 should be finished super quick with those.
Toral Kargar |
What if you search and I go to the caretaker? I have high diplomacy.
Toral Kargar |
What if you search and I go to the caretaker? I have high diplomacy.
Should I use the time to talk to the npc ?
Elris Kayne |
I am not entirely opposed but I do worry if it goes awry and we are all far away from you, a guard or pet or something attacking you could be bad.
Try to get one of the remaining clues in B10?
Toral Kargar |
How much time do we still have?
