George makes an elaborate bow to the Queen.

"Your Majesty, I am not sure how much was fate, or the Goddesses using what they had on hand.

A quick summary that should cover the broad outline. We would be happy to elaborate as much as you like, but you must have many pressing matters requiring your time.

Coop, Firas, along with some other and myself were present when Terendelev has slain. We spend a few days getting back to the surface, but on the way discovered locations of enemy cells and were able to make allies of the descendants of the previous Crusades. Who might be willing to swear allegiance and provide skirmishers for recognition and acceptance.

On the surface there were some minor battles with forces looking to profit from the civil unrest and Irabeth, who has done a wonderful job keeping things organized, asked us to complete some tasks. As we were used to working together, and not tasked to any unit or location, we made excellent troubleshooters for her. Tetsu joined about that time and has proven to be a boon companion.

We were tasked with trying to destroy a fragment of the Wardstone, and with our new allies from down below, we set forth for the Grey Garrison. It was a hard fight, against all sorts of demons, undead, and cultists. Iomedae may have started whispering to us around then. Giving signs of places to visit and warnings of what lay ahead.

The Wardstone was destroyed, but the theory on what would happen was incorrect. Instead of draining harmlessly away," here he looks a little embarrassed, "all that mystical energy went into us. A Demon of great power, which I prefer not to name and draw her attention, took rage at this and set to destroy us. With the current still filling us, neither she or her allies were able to hurt us. Sadly the vast majority of that power has drained away. We have a touch left, but nothing like that day. Iomedae has since visited us in our dreams. There are rules that govern even the Powers, and she has aided us to the extent she currently can."

Will give brief descriptions of the visions when the stone broke.

After a short time, the guard returns, followed by a couple of the inn's workers carrying trays. They set the trays down and bring each person a plate of food. The same rations that everyone gets at the Heart. Even the queen gets a plate and motions for all to sit and enjoy.

Once everyone has had a chance to sample the food, she begins to speak.

"While there are some narrow-minded souls among the crusade who blame you for the destruction of the wardstone border, I do not begrudge you for what you did. Far from it. From the sound of it, you saved entire legions of crusaders from a most vile fate by preventing Vorlesh from transforming them, and the blast of energy gave us the time we needed to regroup and prepare for what will certainly come next. But you understand the implications of what you’ve done, I’m sure. The wardstones are gone, but Iomedae has seen fit that you will be their replacement. I can think of no other reason that would explain why their power would have settled in your bodies and souls and didn’t merely fade into the ether. In time, the demons will regroup and reorganize—we can trust their inherent chaos to make this period of regrouping longer than it otherwise would take, but we shouldn’t underestimate them. They’ll be back soon enough. Already I’ve had reports from along the front lines that small groups of demons are attacking fortifications and settlements along the southern border."

But what intrigues me most is news from several reliable sources that as our fiendish enemies are starting to mass in the southern reaches along the Riftshadow within the Worldwound, they have left several of their northern lairs relatively unprotected. In particular, the fiend Aponavicius has taken the bulk of her army from Drezen, leaving it only moderately protected as she joins with the Storm King in Iz to, no doubt, plot greater attacks on larger targets like Nerosyan, Karcau, and beyond. The time is right to strike into their territory. Drezen was the first of our cities to fall after the First Crusade, and we lost more than our kin and our pride that day. We lost the Sword of Valor, a magical banner carried by the Inheritor herself during the Shining Crusade. If Drezen could be retaken—if the Sword of Valor could once again be held by the crusade... well, I trust I don’t need to explain how well that would affect morale. But with the imminent attacks along the border, I cannot spare many to lead an assault on Drezen. And even if I could, a large army attacking the city would only draw Aponavicius back to defend the place. The obvious tactic is to send in a group of capable heroes with a modest but well-trained army to strike now, while the proverbial iron is hot. And this is why I’ve sought you out. If you can retake Drezen and reclaim the Sword of Valor, not only will you silence the fools who would brand you traitors for destroying the wardstone, but more importantly, you would bolster the entire war effort with your heroism. And I fear we need all the bolstering we can get!"

Watching the brief discussion about leadership, "The role is available to you Firas al-Adil, should you choose to accept it. Or another can take your place. The decision is yours."

Turning to address Coop, "As I understand it, the Librarium of the Broken Black Wing was destroyed in the initial incursion, but I'm sure you could find some source for your studies. Best not to tarry too long, so we can get the army moving and keep the advantage on our side."

As the luncheon wraps up, "One final thing of note, as it seems your are all in agreement to take on the quest, there is a small bit of ceremony involved. It is obvious by the glances lady Tetsu has been giving that attention is not something she is overly keen on, but it is necessary in this case. In order to lead, or join the Crusades really, you will need to be knighted. Best to do so in sight of others, as witnesses. If you are ready, we can attend to this now in the main hall."

@coop i'm not actually sure how to answer on the knight thing. unfortunately, i don't know enough of the local lore here, and the book just says this. "To make it official, she dubs the PCs “Knights of the Fifth Crusade.” The title gives the PCs permission to lead armies and rule lands.".

The queen stands and heads towards the main hall, beckoning the others to follow. Once she arrives, there are hushed whispers spreading through the room as more and more of the crusaders turn their attention towards her.

"With this recent invasion and attack on our lands, the call goes out once again to any able bodied person, to stand and fight. To drive back these demons and to free our homes from their vile influences. These four, have been blessed by the gods themselves, and have agreed to help drive back the darkness."

She pulls out her longsword, it's sharp edge evident. Standing before each of the four, she taps them with the flat of the blade and then gives a nod.

Those assembled give a raucous round of applause and offer to buy drinks for the group.

Queen Galfrey holds up her hands to get the attention of the room again. "It is also during these times that we need more leaders. Those that are willing to step up and take the reigns of command. It is my understanding that there was an individual here that started rallying the survivors and get them back into organized units. She took on the role and did an amazing job at it. I would like to officially recognize Irabeth Tirablade."

The half-orc had been standing off to the side with Anevia, hearing her name, she blushes and gives a small wave. The queen motions for her to join her, and she does.

"In appreciation for what you have done for the city of Kenabres, I would like to promote you to the rank of Captain."

Irabeth blushes even brighter, but gives a big smile. "Thank you my queen, I am honored."

Asking around, George finds that most of the locals recognize the names, but are uncertain where to locate them.

Coop's studies:
The crusader city of Drezen was overwhelmed in 4638 AR; a wave of raw chaos washed over the city turning most of its citizens into hideous beast-men creatures who turned on each other in a wave of cannibalistic fury. After the slaughter finally stopped, the corpses were taken from the city to the ice cliffs that mark the Crown of the World. From these corpses arose the foul winter wraiths who are capable of freezing a man dead with but a touch.

At Tetsu's outburst, a few strange and confused looks follow her as she exits the area.
