The city of Townsville.... no wait... hold on. The city of Kenabres. Travellers come from all around Mendev to partake in the festival of Armasse each year. Plenty of games and wonders to behold in this city on the edge of the corrupted lands.

Each of you has picked out a lovely seat in the plaza and are awaiting an announcement from Lord Hulrun, to kick off this celebration.

While Armasse officially began at noon, those in attendance were hushed, waiting for the proclaimation and blessing of the festival by Lord Hulrun himself, ruler of Kenabres. The crowd gathered in Clydwell Plaza eagerly watched as the aged inquisitor took the stage, clad in shining, resplendent armor. He cleared his throat, but just as he was about to speak, a bright light shone from the west, as if the sun were rising from the wrong direction. Hulrun’s shadow fell huge and distorted across the cathedral’s facade. Seconds later, the sound of a thunderous explosion ripped through the air and earth, along with a violent tremor. To the west, the fortress known as the Kite—the location of Kenabres’s wardstone—had vanished. In its place, a brilliant plume of red fire, lightning, and smoke erupted into the heavens.

A moment later, a powerful roar accompanied a welcome sight rising from the crowd—Kenabres’s greatest guardian, the ancient silver dragon Terendelev, who had until that moment been attending the opening ceremony disguised as a human. Above, another form appeared, as nightmarish as the dragon was breathtaking. A humanoid shape three times the size of any man, with skin coated in fire and lightning, gripped a flaming sword and whip. The creature’s identity was immediately obvious: Khorramzadeh, the Storm King of the Worldwound, had come to Kenabres!

Men and women from the crowd grabbed up their weapons and readied to fight, all while the ground continued to shake and disgorge demons into the streets, the dragon and the balor lord clashed above. The fight was over in a few harrowing moments, as the balor cut deep into Terendelev’s body, swooping down to strike the dragon and arresting her charge. A few more blows, and the titanic duo spiraled downward toward the crowd.

The sight of the dragon smashing into the facade of the Cathedral of St. Clydwell is one no witness would ever forget. At that moment, a titanic demon erupted at the far end of the plaza, reducing several buildings to ruins as it smashed into this world. The rift it created shot across the plaza, and there was no time to escape—it opened below your feet, angling away into darkness.

Even as you fell, the dragon noticed your plight. Though she saw death standing over her, she seized this final chance to save a few more souls. After she uttered a few arcane words and stretched out a bleeding talon, you felt her magic take hold of you, slowing your plummet into the darkness as if you were feathers falling into a pit. Yet the fall remained as inexorable, and as you drifted downward into the depths, the last thing you saw was the Storm King standing before the ancient silver dragon, his sword lashing out and cleaving full through her neck. As her severed head fell, the rift above you slammed shut, and the light of the world above was gone.

Drifting down, you each land on solid ground in the darkness. Rocks and dirt pelt down on you all, causing cuts and scrapes, and then all is still. The sounds of the battle above can still be heard, but it is muted and distant. And so begins Armasse.

A slightly nasal high tenor voice speaks out in the darkness.

The man fumbles in his pack for a moment, and lights a torch.

Cupradahl is a tall and lanky Taldane man with blonde hair styled oddly, short on the sides and high on top. He's wearing studded leather and has an earthbreaker he's placed on the ground at his feet while he fumbled around in his satchel.

"Get back here, foul demon! I, Firas al-Adil, am my lady's vengeance incarnate! I knew this day would come and I am ready to face you, Khorramzadeh, and rid the realms of your taint!" The furious war cries and vicious swings may have been terrifying, if it were not for the ridiculous image the half-orc displayed, flailing his scimitar violently about, nowhere near the Storm King nor any other demons, and uncomfortably close to the others floating down into the depths beside him.

By the time he landed, beads of sweat dotted the muscular green skin, soaking into the many layers of brightly colored silken robes he wore, while his breath came in heavy draws. He shook his blade over his head, its elaborate quillons in the shape of Sarenrae's angelic ankh rattled against his mailed hand. One last guttural shout echoed from his lungs before he dropped to one knee and lowered his head.

"I have failed you, my mistress. I beg you to forgive my weakness and ask that you give me the opportunity to redeem myself. May your light shine upon us all."

The paladin finished his prayer just as Cupradahl finished lighting his torch, illuminating the half-orc's face. His bright blue eyes widened in an unsettling intensity as his mouth curled into a toothy smile.

"Well met, Taldan! I see that we begin this quest together!" he said in a thick Katapeshi accent.

Lifting herself up off the ground, dusting bits of dirt and stone from her clothing, Lassandra identified a flame in the distance followed by familiar tones. She approaches the flame, hard heels echoing into the darkness.
All that can be seen till her final approach is a pair of glowing light blue eyes. She is finally distinguishable once she is standing in the light of the torch. Plumes of feathers sprout from her colar bone barely covering prominent chest with other similar plumes falling on the sides of her neck. She stands with a very elegant pose as if though she were of nobility.

"And here I was hoping for a quiet and more peaceful Armasse."

Even though her words were soft and comforting, her words needlessly echoed as though she were standing in a mountainous valley.

"Is everyone okay I hope? Everything where it needs to be?"

She continues to dust herself off and after finishing, you can't help but notice that her coat tails continue to move as though there was a subtle wind.

With the torch light offering some illumination to the area, you can see that you are in a large, natural cavern under the city. Chunks of rock have fallen from above, with dust still trickling down here and there. It appears that not everyone that fell was so fortunate though, here and there, you find grim reminders that life is fleeting.

To the south a female voice calls out from the darkness.

"You there, in the light, I appear to be stuck."

As her voice beckons, another deeper voice rumbles to the southeast.

"Fah, helluva way to start a festival. These damned demons running amok up there. That wardstone was supposed to protect the city. I told them time and again that after the last battle, they needed to replace it. I knew that crack was going to lead to disaster, and turns out I was right. As usual."

Since at least some people are participating in their first Play-by-Post campaign, I thought I'd put a quick posting tutorial up.

Generally speaking, we prefer players to make their posts in the third person--i.e.,

Good Style writing:
Firstname Lastname leaps up from his chair and pulls his blaster out of its holster!

and not

Bad style writing:
I leap out of my chair and pull my blaster out of its holster!

When your character is speaking, please use bold text, and preferably quotation marks. All caps is acceptable when yelling, although you can also make your text larger for the same effect, or smaller when whispering. Also its best to use italics for internal thought.

To make your text bold, use [ b ] without spaces, and use [ / b ] to stop using bold. Similarly, [ bigger ] [ / bigger ] will make your text larger. [ smaller ] [ / smaller ] will make smaller text as well.

For thoughts, italics ( [ i ] [ / i ]) are preferred. Used too frequently it can be a little much, but a well-placed bit of internal monologue can go miles for filling out character motivations, providing an ironic counterpoint to what the character is saying, etc.

Dice rolling is pretty easy; use [ dice= ] [/dice]. You can put anything after the equals sign, for example here I'll specify that this is a perception roll.

Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11

In between the [ dice= ] and [ / dice] you put the actual dice you want to roll. Format should be XdY+Z, where x is the number of dice, y is the type of die, and z is the modifier applied to the roll. For example, if your 18 strength soldier hit with a falchion you'd roll

Damage: 2d4 + 4 ⇒ (2, 1) + 4 = 7

Extra dice can be rolled, by adding additional XdY. For example, here's a investigator adding inspiration to his attack roll.

Melee: 1d20 + 1d6 + 10 ⇒ (10) + (2) + 10 = 22

Note that you can roll dice that don't normally exist--1d2 for a 50/50 roll, 1d7 if you've cast mirror image and have 6 images up, etc.

You can also make multiple independent rolls with a single dice code by separating them with a semi-colon. Here I'm going to roll an attack roll and damage roll at the same time.

Falchion: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 212d4 + 4 ⇒ (2, 1) + 4 = 7

Alrighty folks. Everything PFS legal is allowed here, as are -nearly- all paizo products. I would prefer no 3rd party materials as I am not very familiar with their contents/options. Campaign will take players from levels 1-20 and you will be able to attain Mythic Tiers in the process, so this is designed to be an epic level campaign. That said, each player will need to select one of the campaign traits in the players guide, which will determine your Mythic Path and one other trait from the standard pool. I will be allowing a 25 Point Buy for this game, but to minimize some of the munchkining, you will gain no points back from dump stats. Outside of that, looking to get the game started on August 1st. Good luck and let's have some fun!

Howdy, folks. I've got an Occultist thrown together for now. Depending on what everyone else would like to I'm totally willing to change to something else--preferably an arcane caster, if no one else wants one, otherwise I'd be happy to play a cleric or a force-multiplier class.

As is Coop would be a frontline melee character, probably following the Champion Path. I might switch to Evangelist at Level 7ish--either way I am probably taking either Divine, Fey, or Empyreal Obedience.

Coop would be a typical two-handed warrior gish, with most of his spells being used to boost his own combat effectiveness. Late game he'd be using Spellsword to put a Quicken Rod in his earthbreaker, and with the champion abilities he'll be moving his full speed, full attacking, and using the swift to cast a spell or use a mythic/occultist ability.

Additionally, due to being an occultist he'll have lots of intelligence based skills. I could be party trapguy, but with my low dex I won't be incredible at it, baring a two level dip into Investigator which I would be reluctant to do. If the party wants to buy trapspringer gloves, though, I probably wouldn't be too bad at it.

Also thanks to being an occultist, he's going to have an extremely high UMD, so I will likely try to keep every scroll we find, and will try to keep a nice library of utility scrolls available in case we need to, say, talk to a corpse, airwalk a couple of dozen miles, teleport to Absalom, or bring a party member back to life.

Coop is friendly, but not exactly good with people. He's clever, and will be up front and talking when we encounter people, but he'll probably defer to someone else when it comes to actual social checks.

Love the write up on Coop. That is exactly the kind of thing I love to see when putting a party together so we can make sure that all of our characters will meld well together. I have gone through a few iterations already for my character concept, and will probably continue to theorycraft more as I am a character creating junkie.

My first thought was an Half-Orc Eldritch Archer Magus, which would provide significant ranged damage output, some utility spells, some control spells, mediocre Dex/Int skills, and would happily haste the whole party every fight once we get to 7th level. I would definitely not be a frontliner, but with d8 hit dice and plenty of defensive spells I wouldn't be that squishy either. (this is a little redundant with Nate's gunslinger, but more damage output is never bad)

Second thought was an Arcane Duelist Bard, which would be a super buff monkey between bardic music, flagbearer, and spells. Would also have some control, healing and utility spells, great Face skills, and decent Dex/Int skills. Again not a frontliner, but decent survivability and happy to provide flanking. (With Dan's Spell Warrior Skald/Lore Oracle this seems character seems very redundant, so I am assuming this option is out)

Here are my current ideas:
Main Tank: a Tiefling Oath of the Crusade Paladin. I would definitely be the frontline tank with high AC, saves, HP, swift action self-healing, and eventually DR to soak just about anything. I would have solid melee damage output (and halfway decent ranged damage) that would skyrocket against demons. I could easily be the party face, but basically any other skills would be utter garbage. I would have out of combat healing covered, and some limited emergency healing. Personality-wise I am thinking I was a foundling raised by the church and taught to resist the darkness within and channel it for good. I see demons as a blight on the universe and this campaign as a chance to fully redeem my tainted blood.

Main Controller: I have a fun idea for an elf Diviner Wizard with the Pact Wizard archetype. I would be Lawful Evil, but don't worry I will absolutely not be doing anything even approaching PVP. I love that Pathfinder is a cooperative game and fully embrace that. I'll certainly roleplay as callous, ruthless, and self-serving but purely for RP fluff. The concept is that I would be a very pragmatic Asmodean from Cheliax who is just as convinced in the threat that demons pose as the forces of good. Likewise teaming up with a bunch of "goody-goodies" is in his own best interest. As for my contribution I will be all about controlling the battlefield with fogs, pits, walls, etc. I will be able to do some direct damage when needed, but it will definitely be secondary. I'll have Int skills locked down, but probably not much else although I could easily take a trait to act as the party Face. I'll be pretty squishy, but should have enough tricks up my sleeve to stay safe.

Spell warrior skald might work ok for this group. My elemental bonuses to weapons are really off. So it will be mostly keen, ghost touch, distance if we can stand off a little.

George was looking into Marshall and just stand around pointing at things to get hit. Lots of things like timely inspiration, buffing and mythic abilities that allow rolling twice.

With bardic lore and using CHA for intelligence (on top of the extra mythic bumps) monster identification should be good. Inspiration as the 2nd level works.

Not sure how well interrupts work with PBP. I could just make a statement that if someone needs it, they can have me use it.

{editing in this part: The way I have him is not really doing any direct damage. I know that is strange for a skald. But I am putting everything into CHA, so my attacks will be low. I can flank, willing to get hit and soak some damage, but more buff, control. Perhaps once I get to enhance magic items, I can start UMD wands and staves.)

Other choices for consideration:
Aether Kineticist. At 7th level I can be doing consistent force damage, and with ranged disable device can handle traps. There is a nice mythic power so I can double my chances on spell resistance. With mighty CON, Large and later Huge size with a Kinetic Whip and a large amount of Temporary hit points.

Last choice might be stepping on the Gunslinger, so this would be low choice.

Mysterious Stranger Gunslinger 1, Picaroon Swashbuckler 1, Lore Oracle 2, Paladin 2, Spell warrior skald everything else. Lol. Touch AC, AC, and saves will be through the roof. I could only use pistols so will have to close tank, shoot in their face. Spells would only be buffs as they will be low levels. I believe there is some mythic stuff that I could take so when I provoke, they provoke in return. He would have some ok lore skills and be good for a face.

Hehe I was/am a big fan of the tactical warlord from 4e. If you weren't already planning on it, I highly recommend the Flagbearer feat if you go with the Skald. It is a passive buff that stacks with Inspire Courage to you and all allies within 30ft for the cost of holding the flag in one of your hands or wielding a polearm to affix it to. With the Banner of Ancient Kings (18k magic item) it doubles the bonus to +2 as well as lots of other fun little things like +4 initiative, +4 to effective bard level for Inspire Courage, and a free reroll every turn vs ongoing Mind Affecting effects on you. I built a whole PFS character around it practically and it works wonders.

Good thing Coop speaks Hallit. These are pretty good helpers (Favored enemy humans is nice, although I bet evil outsiders would be more helpful), but note that they don't have precise shot. We'll need to be very careful about positioning.

ah, i overlooked that when copying the stats. it says the can understand and follow your orders, so i would assume that means they would have common as well, at least to a rudimentary level.

posted this on the other table, should prolly put it here too :)

For formatting, could i get folks to separate their attack and damage rolls to individual lines please? makes it easier for me to read. (i'm old, when the numbers are all jumbled close together, it's harder to read).

also, if folks could include what damage types they are dealing, that will also help out in cases of resistances/weaknesses/immunities. (there have already been plenty of monsters with some or all of these... and given the nature of this AP, it's very likely only to get more and more extreme with them... so, having that info in the posts will help me out a ton)

thank you :)

Occultist 5. Not a huge level up. Grabbing Planar Ward as my third focus power, which could prove useful against demons but given the duration and activation power I'm not likely to use it terribly often until we are mythic.

For my feat I'll be grabbing Deific Obedience (Kazutal). At this level its just a small bonus to diplomacy and intimidate.

No new spells at level 5, although I do pick up Aura Sight, which can be useful. My implements don't change much, with my resistance bonus staying +2, my strength bonus staying +2 (for one more level), and no increase in Legacy Weapon. Trappings of the Warrior will ensure I stay at full BAB.

Sixth level will be a much bigger level up for me, with Illusion Implement (and mirror image), and the first iterative attack.

As of right now I don't plan on putting a point into disable device, because my 10 dex would make it a pretty poor investment. I could pull some skill points from Arcana, history, religion, and planes to go to a +7, but that's still less than a 50% chance at simple locks, so I'm not sure its worth it. That said, I'm fine doing so if the party needs it. (the two-level Empiricist Investigator dip would be a bad idea, but I love investigators so its always a temptation.)

Remember I'm taking Trapfinding as my Slayer Talent this level so I'll be at +7 with Disable, +9 once I can get MW Tools, and this covers magical traps as well. If we have time I can remove my armor to eliminate the -5 ACP. Additional Slayer levels adds to this even without putting ranks into it (+1/2 Slayer levels), and Armor Training will reduce ACP by 1 at 4 and 7 Fighter, though Fighter 7 is all the way at 13th level (plan is take Slayer to 6, then switch back over to Fighter, then Slayer the rest of the way).

So I'd say, yeah, don't bother putting ranks into it, and just provide an occasional Aid Another when needed.

Feat is PB Shot so I can start switch hitting.

I went for Power Attack largely so I have a candidate for my first Mythic feat, and so I qualify for Cornugon Smash down the road.

Other than that I mostly just get Divine Bond this level, which opens up Bane (evil outsiders) as an option thanks to my archetype. I also get a new spell per which I am happy to finally use for Divine Favor to go with my Fate's Favored trait. I also heal an extra d6 with my Lay on Hands, and am not knocking the +1 BAB and +9 HP.

My current plan is to go full Paladin to 20th and just stick with the Guardian Mythic path, though I am sorely tempted to Dual into Champion. Unfortunately I am never really going to have any skills other than Perception, Intimidate, and some Sense Motive.

My key build choices are Sudden Block Mythic Path Ability to protect you guys and grant retaliatory attacks, Retributive Reach (for reach and better AoOs), Vital Strike (so I can remain semi-mobile with decent damage output and to occasionally nova with the 2nd level mythic feature that lets you spend an MP for a 2nd standard action), Cornugon Smash (for debuffing), Legendary Item + Sacrificial Shield (for a 2e style shield block and a super shield to survive it).

I haven't even started looking at how to proceed down the mythic path feat and ability wise (though I know it's Guardian) since I don't know when that's going to happen, nor the circumstances on how (though the physicist in me thinks there's energy in the Wardstone, and if you destroy it, the energy has to go somewhere....)

With the dip in Oracle, this is actually a big level for me. Finally got 2nd level spells. Added Glitterdust and Pilfering Hand, and Heightened Awareness from my favored class.

Had to not spend points on my knowledge skills this level, but bardic lore helped make up the loss. I have Spellcraft, at a low chance but we no longer need the minute per item. Later I will be getting Extra Revelation (Focused Trance) and Investigative Mind spell to fix my low INT.

UMD finally showed up, so I will be trying to activate wands now.

For my feat, I took SF(Knowledge(History)). It is a requirement for me to go Eldritch bloodline (Destined). Which is going to take both a mythic feat and a Mythic Bloodline ability. But then I will be eventually giving out insight bonuses of +4 to +10 on all attack rolls, skill checks, ability checks, and saving throws for a round. Should be doing it at least 8x daily.

Alright, level 6:

Picking up the illusion implement school, which will give me mirror image, vanish, and ghost sound, plus some abilities I'll likely never use. No feats, skills are just more of the same, but I'll use my rank of linguistics to pick up orcish.

Mythic Tier 1

Champion tier (for the sweet 5 HP), hard to kill, surge, etc. the Feat is Dual Path (Archmage), and the Path Ability is Mortal Herald. I'll be picking the Community Domain, mainly for thematic reasons, although being able to cast miracle at 9th tier is of course rather interesting.

The Champion ability I'm getting is Fleet Charge, and the Archmage ability will of course be Arcane Surge. As good as Wild Arcana is, Coop isn't likely to be using standard actions to cast spells in combat very often.

My level up plans are taking Mercy: Staggered and continuing to put skill points in Perception and Intimidate.

For my mythic stuff I am definitely taking Sudden Block for my Guardian 's Call, and Mythic Power Attack for my Mythic Feat. My Path Ability I haven't decided on just yet.

I can now get a bit more offensive in combat. Uncanny Dodge came into play. The Counterspell options of my Archetype suck, so no big use there. Still around 50/50 for wand use.

BAB stays the same, so Spirit Slam is slowly falling behind, but it is free try at +7/+4. Increased Spellcraft and took Investigative Mind. Rolling twice on checks will be handy. I can now make weapons +2 if they are not already. Or make a normal weapon +1 and other. Or add 2 other powers to our weapons. So Keen can be constant, and add as needed.

On the Mythic side, Dualpathing with Archmage. Just the Wild Arcana and Mythic Bloodline make it worthwhile. Took Lightning Performance, so I can start a song as a swift action, or free if I spend a MP.

Wild Arcana is so helpful for a generalist. Really struggled on the Marshall ability. Because of limited MP, I decided to go with Advance. It is 5' step OR a Move action. For the group. Should make flanking easier, get Testu in place for whirlwind, Firas in blocking place. And since it is move action, if we need to open or close doors, draw needed equipment, or something similar. Rally might be easier on the PbP, and can swap if people would rather have that. But it will be limited.

Did I see someone post something about not needing Precise Shot? Is that true? It would help immensely since bow combat is a feat heavy build in order to keep up with damage output necessary (I might have to take some of my mythic feats as normal feats which really sucks).

Cupradhal has no need for the +1 morningstar. The only other things he's carrying that would be sellable are the wand of daylight and the scroll of dimensional lock, but I'd argue against selling both (at least until we are capable of casting daylight and dimensional anchor ourselves.)

That's an awesome bonus. I'll have a post up shortly, but I'm not sure what feat to take so I'm doing a deep dive on Nethys later. It'll probably just end up being Extra Focus Power or Step Up, but I'm hoping for something obscure and flavorful.

I'm going to add a note to my sheet about the extra 5 hit points and the bump to skills, and I'd advise you all to do the same, because if you're anything like me you'll forget about this six months from now and think you've messed up and typoed your hit points or one of your skills and end up taking the bonus away.

Perform Oratory as it is used for so many of my other skills. The 5 hp is like another level.

I was going to take Desna Fighting Style. But between needing standard action for Wild Arcana and the action needed for the Destined Bloodline, I doubt I will be doing more than the occasional AoO. So UMD those Magic Missile wands.

So I am taking another Extra Revelation for Focused Trance. Getting a +20 Circumstance bonus to any INT skill (Spellcraft! Lore!) my CHA mod a day is going to be great for ooc.

In the days following The Shattering, many of the other crusaders have come to talk with the four of you. Asking for a retelling of the events at the garrison as well as seeking to join forces to storm the worldwound in glorious battle. Irabeth usually is available to help quash these rash suggestions.

Notably, the enemies in the city have had their numbers reduced to the point that things are starting to get back to some sort of normal again. Small pockets crop up from time to time, but are quickly dealt with.

Reports from cities all along the border have also started to come in, saying that the wardstones in each of the other cities has also been destroyed, but when it happened, it dealt a heavy blow to evil in its proximity.

Perhaps the biggest news however was the arrival of Queen Galfrey and her armies. Thousands upon thousands of road-weary and battle-worn crusaders thankful for a place to rest. It doesn't take long before the rumors of what you all did reach her ears.
