George Soundtracker |

George's eyes brighten with the sudden appearance of the wand. Ooooh. I like the sideways way you looked at that. Fairly certain Nethys would approve.

Cupradhal |

Spell lasts thirty minutes, and I can cast it on objects given to the soldiers, which they can enclose in something to hide the light before revealing at the right moment.

Firas al-Adil |

Firas grins broadly and claps Coop on the back, "I LIKE this plan! Let us blind our foes with radiant light and bring the fight to them."
As a player I'm a little nervous that any demons with dispel as a SLA could really ruin our day, err night, but this really appeals to Firas's sensibilities.

GM Roxtar |

following the conversation last night, yes, the wand of daylight would be able to light up at least some of the battlefield. 3~4 charges should be enough to keep your allies in light. i will point out that the duration of these battles is ambiguous... so it's hard to say how long a set of castings would last. but, i do like the clever option. so, just let me know how you'd like to proceed :)

George Soundtracker |

George takes a few moments to access the collective unconscious to learn about the demons in the opposing group.
Since there is not really a time crunch, using Focused mind for the bonus. Wondering mostly about SLA, like can they create darkness or dispel our light. And anything else the DM thinks is helpful.
Knowledge Planes: 1d20 + 11 + 20 ⇒ (7) + 11 + 20 = 38

![]() |

I also have no problem zipping around the battlefield casting daylight as needed. I can even collect a bag of stones before the battle and drop them as I go.

GM Roxtar |

George knows that while Dretch's can cause fear and foul smelling clouds, they typically cannot make darkness or dispel magic. Tieflings however are capable of creating zones of darkness, while weak magic, it would still cover areas not illuminated by the daylight effect.
Marching towards the dried out riverbed, the knights find the enemy forces readying themselves for a fight and lining up into two distinct armies.
1=S
2=R
alrighty, select your target and choose your tactic for this combat. There are two armies, the tieflings and the dretches and your options are still as listed on the statblock.
standard, no bonus/penalty
expert flankers, +2atk/-2def
withdraw, -2atk/-2def
also... since the timing is ambiguous on these, i'll leave it up to the dice to determine the length of each "round" 1d4 for a roll,
1=2 hours
2=1 hour
3=30 minutes
4=10 minutes
seem fair?

Cupradhal |

Standard, I guess?

Tetsu Yama Takahashi |

Should concentrate on dretches first. More dangerous and defeat of dretch army might demoralize tieflings

GM Roxtar |

Time: 1d4 ⇒ 4
Round 1, Phase 1
Knights - Standard +0/+0
Tiefling - Standard +0/+0
Dretch - Relentless Brutality +4/-4
Phase 2, ranged
Knights: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21
Dretch: 1d20 + 5 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 5 + 4 = 26
Phase 3, melee
Tieflings: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
The fighting starts off at a breakneck pace with a flurry of arrows, punching through the lines on both sides, but ultimately, the Dretches falter and are routed. The red skinned tieflings charge in, but the knights hold their own against the onslaught.
dretch army is defeated, but the knights have taking 6 damage out of their max of 16. same orders for the next round?

George Soundtracker |

Just a recommendation after looking around AoN.
In the ranged phase, take a -1 penalty to our OM to use Lay on Hands to heal 3 points.
In the melee phase use Smite Evil. If the tieflings count as evil Outsiders we get an +4 OM.
It does not list amounts per battle for Lay on Hands, so we might be able to do this every round. Smite Evil is only once per battle.
It might be risky to try expert flanker. We get a +2 on OM, for a -2 on DV. But since they do not have ranged, with luck we could kill them in that phase.

Cupradhal |

Sure, sounds good.

GM Roxtar |

Time: 1d4 ⇒ 3
this would be 1 hour. would need 2 groups of charges to be expended to maintain the light charges: 2d2 + 4 ⇒ (2, 2) + 4 = 8
Round 2, Phase 1
Knights - Standard +0/+0
attempt to change tactics, DC15. Morale: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12
Tiefling - Standard +0/+0
Phase 2, ranged
Knights, Lay on Hands. -1 OM, Channel Positive: 1d4 ⇒ 3
Phase 3, melee
Knights: 1d20 + 10 - 1 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 10 - 1 + 4 = 16 hit
Smite Evil
Tieflings: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18 close miss

George Soundtracker |

I thought we still made a ranged attack roll but with a Penalty? That was taking a small amount of effort, as a penalty, not instead of attacking. And the heal was just equal to our Army Value

GM Roxtar |

last round the tieflings closed into melee with you folks. Per the ult campaign book, only if both sides have ranged would you continue to fire at a distance. See screenshot in discord. So, you can still do the healing thing, but the penalty would apply to the one phase you would be attacking in. As for the amount healed, yes, it would be set at 3, the d4 would be for damaging undead
also… I setup the time thing and then didn’t even look at it to confirm. The result would have only been half an hour. So Coop gets back 4 charges on the wand >.<

Firas al-Adil |

Cool, thanks for catching that and adjusting. My vote is to continue using Lay on Hands. -1 OM for +3 HP is a great tradeoff. Plus that way we don't have to worry about another morale check to change tactics.

Cupradhal |

Works for me.

Cupradhal |

Sounds like we have a consensus.

GM Roxtar |

have been crazy busy this weekend, and then trying to figure out this mass combat stuff. i admit, i thought i had it down, and every time i look at it, it feels like i misinterpreted one thing or another. >.<
Time: 1d4 ⇒ 3
this would be 30 minutes Daylight charges: 1d2 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Round 3, Phase 1
Knights - Withdraw -2/-2
Knights Morale: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21
Tiefling Morale: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
Tiefling - Standard +0/+0
Phase 2, ranged
Knights, Lay on Hands. -1 OM, Channel Positive: 3
Knights, Ranged: 1d20 + 10 - 1 - 2 ⇒ (15) + 10 - 1 - 2 = 22
dice really wanted this to wrap up it seems.
After the long battle, the enemy forces are scattered.

Cupradhal |

Charges expended.
"WELL DONE, FELLAS. THAT'LL SAVE US SOME TIME, WE'LL BE THERE BEFORE THEY KNOW WHAT'S HIT THEM."

George Soundtracker |

George will spend sometime going around the people, being Mr Smith from Jeremiah. Just listening to people and lending encouragement. Especially with the people we picked up a few days before. They may not be paladins, but fit in fine with the rest of us.
Not sure if enough paladins have the mercy to remove fatigue, or if we are going to march through the day. Maybe I spend my song and we just move regular instead of faster?

GM Roxtar |

It takes longer than usual to set up camp, as it's not only fully night time by now, but there is a lingering darkness over everything.
Searching for supplies may prove to be a difficult task in this darkness.
George however wanders the camp talking to folks, and notices that Aron is no where to be found.

George Soundtracker |

George would check in with Tetsu, to make sure they are not out scouting together. Then would try and find Sosiel to see if he knows.
Will also update the rest of the party and see if more people are missing.

Cupradhal |

Coop will alter self into a sasquatch and scour the battlefield with his darkvision and scent (and another charge of daylight if needed) looking for Aron, or any sign of his possessions.
If he finds something of Aron's he'll try to use object reading on it to discover what happened to him.
Perception if needed: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (10) + 12 = 22

Tetsu Yama Takahashi |

Tetsu examines the area to see if there are tracks that could provide a clue to Aron's whereabouts.
Track: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30

GM Roxtar |

It doesn't take long before the missing man is located. When the group approaches, he becomes a bit defensive, and seems agitated.
"Just leave me be."

Cupradhal |

"RELAX, THERE, FRIEND. BATTLE IS A HORRIFYING AND TRYING ORDEAL, I KNOW. BUT IT'S NOT SAFE TO WANDER OFF IN HOSTILE TERRITORY."
Sense Motive?: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

Firas al-Adil |

George Soundtracker |

in my mind I am picturing him like Cassian from Rogue One. With everythingthat has happened lately this could be PTSD..
George calmly walks toward him, but giving 10-15 space and tries to get a read on him.
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (20) + 16 = 36

Cupradhal |

Well, that's a very good roll.

GM Roxtar |

Talking to him, George gets a sense that something is wrong. Aron's eyes are dilated and tinged with red, while his speech seems slower than usual.
"Just... just go away. I know I'm no good. Everyone knows it. Sosiel deserves better." His eyes turn dark, and his hand moves towards his sword hilt. "Don't you dare tell him!"

Firas al-Adil |

Firas holds his arm out to hold back his compatriots, keeping about ten feet back from Aron.
"Whoa there, friend. What has happened you do not seem yourself. The dawnflower shows me evil within your heart. Evil, which was not present before."

GM Roxtar |

"Judge me then. Send me from this world. It would be better for everyone if you did. No matter how hard I try, I just can't resist..."
His hand grips the hilt of his sword, knuckles turning white, and he takes a small step backwards.

Firas al-Adil |

"I do not hear evil in your voice. I hear guilt. I hear remorse. Goodness is not the absense of evil. Goodness is the drive to be better. Tell me. What has happened? You look to be under the effects of some dark magic."

GM Roxtar |

i'll take a diplomacy roll from anyone at this point

Cupradhal |

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (16) + 13 = 29
"YOU STOP THAT RIGHT AWAY, ARON. YOU'RE A GOOD MAN, I KNOW. WHATEVER YOU'RE STRUGGLING WITH, WE CAN HELP. SHARED PAIN IS LESSENED, AS THE FOLLOWERS OF GRANDMOTHER SPIDER SAY."

GM Roxtar |

As Coop talks, Aron looks ready to bolt, but then seems to slump, and eventually fall to his knees. ”I’m sorry. Please… it’s this.”
He reaches into a pocket and pulls out a pair of vials. One contains a reddish purple liquid, while the other has a small amount of the liquid remaining at the bottom.
”I’ve tried, and thought I had gotten away from it, but I found some in my pack last night. I know I shouldn’t, and Sosiel will be very disappointed….”

Tetsu Yama Takahashi |

all too familiar with internal struggles, Tetsu gently asks Aron about the vials. what is it? How get into pack? Sosiel care very much and will understand

![]() |

Coop will try to gently take the vial and use object reading on it.
Object Reading (Su)
At 2nd level, an occultist learns how to read information from items he examines.Examining an item in this way requires him to spend 1 minute handling the item. If the item is a magic item, the occultist learns its properties and command word as if he had successfully examined the item using detect magic and succeeded at a Spellcraft check. This ability does not reveal whether the item is cursed unless the occultist’s class level is equal to or greater than the caster level of the item. If the item has any historical significance, the occultist learns one piece of information about its past (as determined by the GM). Finally, if the item was last used no longer than 1 day ago per the occultist’s class level, the occultist learns one piece of information about the last creature to use the item. This information might be a glimpse of the creature’s appearance, a brief vision of what it saw while using the item, or perhaps its emotional state when it last used the item. The GM determines what information is gained in this way. This functions like the psychometry occult skill unlock, but doesn’t require a skill check and can be used at will.

GM Roxtar |

You see flickers of Aron running into the woods after the fighting. Heart pounding in anticipation before he pours the liquid down his throat. Immediately after, he feels pain and sorrow, as his thoughts turn to Sosiel.

Cupradhal |

"AH."
Coop pockets the vial.
"COME BACK TO THE CAMP, ARON. NOTHING YOU'VE DONE IS UNFORGIVEABLE. YOU STRUGGLED MIGHTILY AGAINST YOUR ADDICTION, BUT YOU CAN'T DO THIS SORT OF THING ALONE."

GM Roxtar |

With a defeated look, Aron complies and returns to the camp. It is not long before Sosiel approaches the group, looking a bit frantic until he spots Aron, he moves quickly and embraces the rogue.
"You had me worried. I thought we had lost you."
Releasing his grip, he takes a small step back, "What is wrong? Has something happened?"

Firas al-Adil |

As Aron walks away, Firas approaches Coop and whispers, "What was that concoction? What has Aron done? Are we sure we can trust him. I could sense a good deal of evil in him."

Cupradhal |

"IT WAS—"
Coop stops, then casts message.
<It's a drug called Shadowblood, made from the essence of shadow demons. Probably leaves an aura behind, but he's not evil himself, I don't think. We'll need to help him with his addiction.>

Firas al-Adil |

Firas wrinkles his nose in disgust and replies to the message
<Ugh! I know some cultures drink the blood of their enemies in an effort to gain their power. That is questionable enough, but to do so with demonic blood is the height of folly! We will indeed need to keep a close eye on him. It sounds like such a thing could be used by the abyssal forces to exert influence over him. Our foe is proving more cunning than I was expecting. Schemes like this seem more natural to devilkind than demonkind. That worries me.>
