Alright, changed my spells.
Would we have had time to attempt to identify the Silver Bracelet (transmutation) that I see in the loot tracker? I think that is the only item we haven’t IDed yet, but I could have easily missed something.

GM Blake |

Yes. For the sake of my sanity, we'll say you do the ID attempts in the morning because I don't remember who failed on the day you found them.
Teardrop Pendant (necromancy): requires Religion to ID
Silver Bracelet (transmutation): any skill to ID
Pendant:
Ephie's Religion (T): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Rulean's Religion (T): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
Bracelet:
Ephie's Arcana (T): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
Clover's Nature (T): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Song-of-Air's Occultism (T): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Rulean's Religion (T): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
Result
Teardrop Pendant = Crying Angel Pendant
Bracelet = Bracelet of Dashing

Rulean |

I personally don’t find the Crying Angel pendant that useful. It only works on First Aid, not Treat Wounds.
Bracket of Dashing is great for someone focused on Acrobatics.

GM Blake |

I’m an idiot who doesn’t proof read his spoilers.
Recall Knowledge is 1-action. Sorry.
Please have your 3rd action.

GM Blake |

FYI: I'll be leaving on vacation this Saturday for a week. I expect to have wifi, but plan on posting once a day in the late evening.

GM Blake |

Burning an hero point for some (unknown to me) bonus
Hero Points provide re-rolls. So if you thought the result of your roll of 13 wasn't going to be good enough, you might use a Hero Point to re-roll, but you take whatever result you get. There are several things to know about re-rolls, but the important one for the moment is that Hero Points are used before the results are announced.
The other use for Hero Points, which consumes all that you have at the time you use them, is to automatically stabilize.
FYI: I won't be consuming your Hero Point here.

Ephraim Critchlow |

I'll be out of town Saturday and Sunday but should be able to get a post in.
Also, jumping in on this scene real quick to help move it along even though Ehie and Mr. Splinters aren't usually the talkers; hope I'm not stepping on any toes. Feel free to tell Splinters to be quiet or kick ephie in the shin it's messing up any plans for the scene.

GM Blake |

I'm stuck in the middle of nowhere on a mobile with half my attention on my wild children. There's more to happen soon, but go ahead with any brief interactions with each other or the earth mephits.

Does Multi-Action Penalty apply to Recall Knowledge checks?
No, but there is a penalty for repeated attempts to recall knowledge on the same subject in order to get more details. Doing it on two different creature types gives no penalty.

GM Blake |

Apologies. My childcare fell through, so I've been playing catch-up all morning at work. Post should be coming soon.

By the way, the "Do you want to play with a doll" exchange made my day.
EDIT: Just an FYI to let you know that I edited the exposition post to include a detect magic result and remind you there's a loft to explore, in case anyone was typing a post while I made that edit.

GM Blake |

Any check Ephie can make about "stone gargoyles" or whether these causes for environmental change have any validity? (out of character I certainly know they do)
I think those two things are best left to your own imagination to draw conclusions.
Though, if you know from the storefront descriptions what is causing the blight, that you definitively have no way to know (forgotten lore is forgotten).

you are careful not to leave such openings yourself. You aren’t flat-footed to hidden, undetected, or flanking creatures of your level or lower, or creatures of your level or lower using surprise attack. However, they can still help their allies flank.

Skill Feat hesitating beween numerous options: Lie to me, Bargain Hunter, Hobnobber, Group Impression, Wary Disarment

Rulean |

General Feat either Untrained Improvisation or Incredible Initiative, as both suits the character
As a rogue, how many skills are you really untrained in? That feat is much better on a class that doesn’t get many trained skills, such as champion or cleric.
The initiative one is good as is Fleet.

Nabi Salekhet |

6 Untrained skills, 11 Trained and 2 Expert so far... yeah, maybe another choice for a General feat would be more useful.
On a side note, for those who might be interested Humble Bundle has a whole pack of Starfinder stuff here

GM Blake |

I am often tempted to take Untrained Improvisation on my rogues--how dare my rogue not be able to attempt ALL skill checks--but I figure it's not worth it compared to other opportunities. Also, humans have a better feat at 5th level.
You will swiftly outgrow Bargain Hunter. Lie to Me is marginally useful. Wary Disarmament is probably the best. It's a +2 circumstance bonus, which is only +1 over Trapfinder and more conditional, but +1 AC/saves is significant.

If your characters are patient people... you'll have up to 3 days of Downtime coming up soon.

Alright, making a list:
* rooster-bat lair near circus camp
* find the book for the church
* likely rescue the mayor from the monastery, sift through who there is connected to demons
* find the sheriff
* although Madam Dusklight is nearby, we don’t know where that camp is
* have another show since this town can definitely use something to cheer them up
I am likely still missing things.
The monastery is evidently a fair distance away. We should probably make sure we have taken care of the things in town before heading there.
Did we figure out what happened in Oldin’s Orchard? That is a location that had a mark. Is that where we found the gnome body?

GM Blake |

Yes. Olin's Orchard is where the boar was and the dead gnome gardener.
Also just to add to your clues: you found a bloody hat and bloody boots amongst the remains of the giant flytrap.

Ephraim Critchlow |

I think rooster-bat; it still seems somewhat early.
Not sure when we are allowed to do performance; I thought that might only be for downtime.

Clover Montajay |

I'm game for checking out rooster-bat!
I suspect the performances are probably either 'scripted' to happen/be done at certain times or are largely meant to happen during downtime, as Ephie suggests.

GM Blake |

Shows are Downtime. The first one was scripted as part of the adventure.
You can have Downtime starting "in-game tomorrow" if you're willing to wait for the mayor.

GM Blake |

A long day spending a long time teaching my team of newly minted doctors how to do their job and then playing catch up for the rest of the day.
Is your plan to go to the Goldenlaws (church of Abadar) to check in with Nellyn? Just so I know what to start writing. :)

Rulean |
3 people marked this as a favorite. |

Yes, update the Goodenlaws about the sheriff’s assumed fate. Admit that we haven’t found any signs of the book in town yet. Tell him the Hawfton family (millers) are safe.
Assuming that doesn’t generate more side quests, go take care of the rooster-bat.
Tomorrow I think we are looking to do a performance? Mostly as a way to fill time until the sherif is scheduled to return.

Rulean |

Since it has likely been a couple of hours, do you want me to roll Medicine checks for those still hurt or can we just hand wave it and say they are no longer hurt?

Ephraim Critchlow |

I’ll probably try to tanglefoot it; I’m not sure what the plan is beyond
1. Put sack on cockatrice’s head
2. ???
3. Profit
.... but I like it! Surely nothing will go horribly wrong...

Do we have rope? Can we tie it up with an athletics check or something?
I don’t think cockatrices are evil or anything, they’re just a dangerous animal. Which a circus has several of.

Leaf-On-Wind |

It'd be a neat sideshow, and a good addition to the circus defences. However, we will need to treat it well and maybe move over the nest.

GM Bret |

However could having something like a cockatrice in the side show go wrong?
Oh right, I’m running Agents of Edgewatch for a different group. :)
In the first portion of the adventure, you come across a menagerie with escaped creatures, including a cockatrice that has already stoned a merchant in a nearby stall.

Bind&Tie (Thievery): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
Fortunately, it's not a contested check, the cockatrice with it's STR 6 has to try to escape your Thievery DC, which is 10+7.

Tennessee. Overruled school mask mandates, which was the only thing that made me feel the slightest bit safe sending my children to school. It was a lovely "gift" to receive after spending the previous 16 days taking care of kids with COVID-19 in the PICU.
I swear, if I had the money, I would just retreat to the woods and have my food delivered (can't hunt because I might get hurt and have to go to the hospital).
Anyhow, in cockatrice news, if my dice don't roll hot due to my IRL fury, your best strategy might be too smack the monster into unconsciousness with non-lethal strikes. Let's go see how my dice roll...
