Thank you for offering to run! I'd like to throw my hat into the ring with Beryl Brighthammer, a chirurgeon alchemist who wants to clear the name of her clan. As she operated an alchemy cart with her father I thought chirugeon made the most sense as curatives would probably sell the best in a small town. She has the Reputation Seeker background, and she has a little backstory on her profile. I'd also consider a cleric dedication for her later on, depending on the party makeup.

My own experience with 2E is somewhat limited. I ran Plaguestone and had a great time, and I'm currently converting the module "Feast of Dust" for my home group which has turned out to be quite a lot of work, though it is enjoyable. Good luck with the party selection.

Grand Lodge

Salazar has returned to his people...

Instead I present Valericus Rufinus Isauricus, Battlefield Medic, and War Priest of Iomedae.

Background pending

@DM Nex how many players are you planning to accept?

And how do you feel about Goblins...lol.

I was in an all Goblin campaign (Hello Dys!) a while ago; and now they are actually Core...lol.

@Dorian 'Grey' - heheh, that campaign was great! I miss democratic goblin commune.

I am leaning toward a Tailed Goblin Fighter; called Bam-Bam using a greatclub...lol.
Background will be Out-of-Towner. Bam-Bam is visiting a relative in Bumblebasher tribe.

Fun times ahead!

@DM Nex if you approve the concept; I shall write him up this weekend!

2 people marked this as a favorite.

I have semi complicated thoughts about Goblins. I am not adverset to them as a concept, but I tend to have a bit of a problem with the (most common) way they are played.

I believe Pathfinder is trying to push Goblins as a more normal thing to play. I don't think everyone of them needs to talk like "EEEEH! A dog! I must kill dog!". If they are more "normal" with a goblin twist, that is 100% fine with me.

I know this ends up being a comment on Vorska too. I am just a bit worried about a Goblin who's name is Bam-Bam. That sounds difficult to RP with, makes the party less cohesive, etc.

So if the goblin mostly speaks in standard Common (with maybe a small goblin flair), is willing to work with townsfolk, not a small ball of choas, then yes I am fine with it.

Vorska, I see you are CG. a great alignment! I just am hoping for more of cG (more good than choatic) in how the character is played. Your description does feel more "normal".

I can't help but feel slightly goblin racist or something by saying all this, but those are my goblin thoughts...

DM Nex wrote:
@Sindarin - Firebrands might be tricky to work with. I assume you would want to take the dedication? I am not sure how much the Firebrands get into the AP, if at all. We would have to see how it plays out.

It's no big deal. I wasn't aware of the dedication feats, but I looked them up and that's not really what I'm thinking for him, so I wouldn't go that route. It's really more of a flavor thing. I know they are kind of loosely organized, so I thought he might run into one of the members at some point and get involved that way. However, if it doesn't happen, it's not a problem!

Also, can you clarify what you mean by "difficult"? I just want to make sure I am understanding what you're saying. By difficult do you mean characters that will be difficult to get along with, or are you thinking something else, like a complicated backstory?

I'll have Sindarin's background up by the end of the day today.

Totally. When I say difficult, I am thinking difficult to work with. RP is not an easy thing, and it’s easy to be in a group that doesn’t work well together.

I am more interested in a cohesive group than one that has a hard time talk together.. in some ways I am looking for a more traditional role play party. I am fine with different races, just worried about a party of “loners who don’t really talk”, or a super difficult paladin who can’t find a balance, a goblin who only talks in dancing songs, or a part member that talks down or insults others in the group, etc.

I am all for depth of character, as long as it works well with others.

I hope that makes sense. In my experience these things help keep the group from falling apart and the game ending.

Well, I too want to submit a goblin, Reev, mostly because I want to try out TWF in PF2, and I thought twin dogslicers sounded fun.

Reev is an emancipated Chelaxian slave. Like Vorska, he is also CG; definitely more cG, though. I plan to take the barbarian archetype for him, which is why I put the C in there. Most of the time his chaotic-ness is contained... except when slaves are involved.

I understand, though, if goblins aren't your thing. I usually play halflings, but the opportunity that PF2 gives to play goblins is attractive to me.

Please check out some of my play-by-post games, especially those with Juniper or Cosmo Berrythwaite to get a sense of my RP style.

Thanks for your consideration. :)

Checking in to see if you had any questions or any dislikes you saw on the character sheet. ;)

All good submissions so far. I can tell its going to be hard to pick. With the amount of submissions. I don't know if I have the bandwith for 2 tables, but I think I might try 5 players. Gives us a little wiggle room if someone has to drop out too.

Some stats so far:
Rogues - 3
Alchemists - 2
Bararian - 1
Bard - 1
Wizard - 1
Cleric - 1
Ranger - 1

Goblin - 2
Dwarf - 2
Half-elf - 2
Human - 2
Lizardfolk - 1
Elf - 1

None:
Fighter, Monk, Druid, Champion, Sorcerer

Gnome, Halfling, Hobgoblin, Leshy, Shoony.

Again, everyone has posted great characters. Going to be interesting what more we get. Another week :)

Makes sense! Thank you for clarifying!

Sindarin's backstory is up now. The dates in his journal are arbitrary and can be changed as needed. I just put them up there to show the timeline. I think the Pathfinder calendar basically follows our calendar, though, yes?

Horizon Hunters

I have a gnome monk from breachhill who is interested! Finishing up on backstory

He'sDeadJim here.

Okay...Here's my Half-Orc Druid.

Take a look and see if I got the basics right? Any suggestions?

I definitely get where you're coming from - I've been a GM myself enough times. :)

Vorska is not intended to be difficult or complicated, and her alignment is definitely cG, the chaotic part has to do with freedom and self-expression, and not "must do random things all the time, wheeee!". And since she doesn't really consider herself a goblin, she's not beholden to many of their idiosyncrasies. She's fine with dogs and humans, fire is mildly fascinating, the notion of private property is a little fuzzy (but she understands that stealing is generally regarded as bad), and she finds goblin songs extremely irritating.

You can check out some of my other posts for an idea of my play style:
Curse of the Crimson Throne, Shoanti shaman
The Northlands Saga, human warpriest
Homebrew campaign, gnome alchemist

Ultimately, I am interested in playing the AP, not in playing a very specific character, so I'm flexible. :)

Grand Lodge

Rufinus The Red, or Red is descended from a noble house cast out Of Cheliax around the time of the ascendance of House Thrune. The Official Records of the family name, if it exists after the burning of so many histories, would be buried in a Hellknight archive somewhere. The family were staunch worshippers of Aroden, who switched to the faith of the Inheritor about 3 generations ago, and now are moderately well to do traders.

Red is the youngest of three very rough and tumble brothers, the eldest moved into the family business, the middle brother joined Isgers army and Rufinus went into the clergy. His combative nature suited the militant nature of the Church, and years of simple doctoring learned as a result of interfamilial beatings made him a natural as a medic.

Though his formal name is Valericus Rufinus Isauricus, he only uses it for formal occasions. He is burly, more broad than tall, standing just 5'8", and has a full head of auburn red hair. While Red is capable of polite and civil conversation, his defaults to blunt and pointed, with little patience for lies and nonsense. His language often veers to salty, and has gained the nickname "The swearing curate".

Rufinus has been released from formal church duties recently, and like many others, encouraged to take up and adventurers lifestyle. It was recommended that he try The Call for Heroes. It would be good for him and good for the image of the Church.

This is Dorian Grey's work in progress....I need to do some actual work at home before the wife gets home...lol!

I shall write up his backstory soon (it is in my head already)....

Horizon Hunters

I present Kana-Deniz Jerha, Ancient Elf Dragon-blooded Sorcerer and Dedicated Cleric of Yuelral, The Wise. (submission for JScotShady)

The crunch is still in progress but the backstory and description should be good. I will have the mechanics settled by the end of the week. Thanks.

@Bertrum - A cursery glance, everything looks good. Looks like you are missing gear and AC. One note, is if you get training from 2 places (Intimidation from Order and Background) it does not bump up to Expert. You do get to move trained to another skill for free (of your choice). You are going to want to calculate your Skill #s too.

@Everyone - Thanks for understanding my Goblin talk. Don't want to squash any creative freedom, just want to have it make sense in the game.

Thank you everyone for submitting so far! Really excited to see how this all goes. I will freeze submittions on June 26th at 10am PST. Then hopefully have my choices up that evening. Giving me a day to get though everything.

Once I do pick we will work as a group in Discussion to finish up characters. Get any wrinkles figured out, and maybe get some prestory figured out. Keep em coming!

Got it. I was waiting to finish up the final details until you approved what I put together so far.

Pretty much done. Let me know if I'm missing anything else important.

Question: Are you using PF2 Hero points? It looks like it is a normal part of the game now instead of an optional rule?

@Bertrum - Yeah, Trying to decide exactly how to handle it. I am thinking a time based approach at first. Hard to know how to equate PbP game time to at the table game time. They say at the start of every session then ever hour after.. That could be a week or month.

I am thinking every week to start then figure it out from there.

May I present Mosquito Goblin Fighter for submission.

Any questions, or comments are encouraged.

His Story is just a sample of his personality. His backstory he will happily tell to an audience in game...lol.

Thank you again for running!

Howdy, i'm interested. Statting up a half-elf Liberator of Falayna. I'm friends with Dorian IRL and was also part of the all-goblin craziness in Kingmaker.

Well PF2 (as far as I know) the GM hands them out for good deeds and such only? I'm unsure really.

However, I found the old '+1/lvl (with a Max 3 pts) Rule' works pretty well. Then hand out the occasional extra points for heroic acts and/or good role-playing as surprise rewards can inspire people.

My ex-wife once ran the S&S AP and called them 'Pirate Points,' then gave out extra points for doing spectacular 'piratical' stuff or pirate-themed role-playing that hit the mark. It was tons of fun.

The pf2 hero points are actually supposed to be handed out at the beginning of every session, every hour played, and for heroic and special things. With a max of 3.

I think it’s assumed a lot more is handed out. I plan on using a increased list of things you can use them for. Excited to see how they play out.

Hero points are really fun. We have competitions to see who uses them (and receives them) for the session. Makes for hilarious fun!

We also expanded the uses for them. Our EC GM also added a bonus of +2 on your reroll for them to better assist in the shenanigans.

This would be my first PF2 PbP, so I don't have any actual knowledge of how they would be awarded; although 1 each level and earn up to 3 for an easy way to keep track does sound...well...sound.

Dotting for interest. I’ve had a character I’ve wanted to make specifically for this campaign- a human fighter born to a family of Hellknights, but not sure where he belongs in that tradition.

I am pretty sure Red is as per the rules and ready to go...

I feel like 1 HP every level would cap out at 20 hero points. Games usually last more than 20 hours at the table. I am going to shoot for 1 HP every week. Might extend it to every 2 weeks if there are just too many. Will be a moving target depending on the group.

I will be adding a few HP options. So I want there to be a decent amount of points handed out. We will figure it out :)

I'd like to submit Rhadgar of Clan Ashenforge. A Redeemer Champion Forge Dwarf. Rhadgar has lived his whole life in Breachill and is the son of Horren of Clan Ashenforge, local hero. Rhadgar's father is a famous adventurer and Rhadgar hopes to one day fill his father's shoes. For now he toils at Tuskhead Stoneworking working long days in the heat that he does not mind at all, as the blood of his ancestors who lived deep underground, flows through his veins protecting him from the harsh temperatures. Although Rhadgar is crotchety most of the time, he his always kind to others and believes forgiveness is the key to salvation.

The players guide mentioned repairing a castle at some point so I took specialty crafting in Stone masonry.

Character Sheet

I've put together my [zefig's] entry for Kleio Alekto, Liberator in service to Falayna. Still a few details to iron out in equipment but nothing major.

An introduction:
A rigged pinnace sits at dock as sailors scurry about, making preparations to set sail. Beyond the ship lies a city of graceful spires intermingling with nature, notable in that almost every single roof is yellow. A young woman strides down the dock towards the ship. She’s dressed in colorful finery, hair perfectly coifed, with dagger-like ears just slightly shorter and more rounded than you’d expect of an elf. Her smile rivals the sun as she spies what she’s looking for and she skips up to the ramp. “Pater!” She calls out and waves.
An older man on deck turns from examining the manifest and smiles back at her. He’s sun-weathered from decades of travel, swarthy and strong. “Kleio! Come aboard my child, I’m glad you made it.” He waves her on and embraces her as she ascends the ramp. “I’m surprised your mother let you come. But glad, glad.” At her father’s statement, Kleio looks away, chagrined. The man straightens his arms to hold her out and his eyes drill straight to the truth. “She doesn’t know. My child, I pray I don’t end up with a bounty on my head for this.”
-
Kleio, several years younger, swings a sword with a smile. Her sparring partner is an adolescent elf, looking younger than Kleio although they are about the same height. They dance around a large balcony near the center of the city with a beautiful view of Lake Encarthan over many of the yellow rooves of Greengold. "Careful, you wouldn't want a bruise to ruin your perfect makeup." The elf taunts her and swings at her low; she realizes that she’s too slow to dodge but boldly takes the opportunity to retaliate while her brother is overextended. The crack of the wooden swords on bare flesh draws a gasp from their mother, Mallen, who had been poring over a pile of scrolls. “My children, are you injured? Do be careful.” Kleio rolls her eyes as she rubs the fresh red welt on her leg, but her brother Heledir speaks up.
“Kleio's actually gotten good at swordplay. The hitting bit at least. She still needs some work on the dodging," he says with a grin as he massages his own quickly rising welt. "Soon she may even be good enough to join the Lantern Bearers like she keeps talking-" his eyes go wide and his mouth snaps shut as he realizes he's said too much. Their mother raises an eyebrow.
"The Lantern...those mercenaries and killers? Did your..did the Iblydan Ambassador give you those ideas? Cugunind, you have been growing idle here at home." Kleio grimaced as her mother, as always, used her private Elven name. "I shall set you up as a page at the ministry then, or I have heard that Ivuen has need of an apprentice to help as she designs the new wing of the cathedral. Although normally I would wait another lustrum or so." Mallen's eyes drift to Heledir and he returns his mother's glance with one of jealousy at his younger sister receiving a posting before he did, but she cuts him off as he begins to speak. "And I will hear no more of this Lantern Bearer talk. You are both lucky that I let you roam our district on your own, where it's safe."
Kleio's temper flares. "Mother, I'm nearly twenty. I can take care of myself! I'm more mature than he is," she says, pointing her wooden sword at Heledir. He glares at both of them and starts to complain when Mallen holds a hand up and cuts him off again. "This behaviour is not supporting your argument. You are a child, and you are going to continue your education in a safe and structured environment. If you still have these reckless desires to get yourself killed in a half century, we can discuss the Lantern Bearers."
Spurred on by the sting in leg, Kleio snarled and said things that she would later regret.
-
Hours later, when the dust had settled and she had cried until she had no more tears, Kleio knelt in her room and prayed. She prayed, not knowing who listened, to get her out of this ivory tower, this prison, this city, this life. She prayed to be seen for the woman she was becoming rather than the child she had been. She prayed for the strength to fight for what she believed in. To fight for herself.
Her prayers were answered.
-
Kleio reaches out to pat her father's shoulder and gives him a reassuring smile. "If I had told her, I wouldn't be here. But I needed to get out, to prove myself. To prove I can help people out there. I left her a letter, and I'll come back in a little while, once I've done things for her to be proud of. She'll forgive me."
The older man claps her on the shoulder and motions for her to walk with him on to the ship towards a well maintained but obviously well used sword and shield. "My daughter, I'm already so proud of you. I have something for you on your journey ahead. But first, tell me. Where are we going?"
Kleio looks to the west across the waters of Lake Encarthan. "I've heard rumors of an abandoned keep in a town in search of heroes. It would make a fine symbol, to turn an oppressive edifice into a beacon of hope and freedom. To Druma, I think, and from there I'll find my way…"

Description:
Kleio is a relatively young woman, mostly elven with a touch of Iblydan human from her father's side.
She's a poster child for Falayna's values: she's strong, tough, and she loves putting in work to look her best and make beautiful things. She strives to be the best she can be, so that she can protect and inspire others, but her privileged and sheltered upbringing has set her course for some rude awakenings. Her wardrobe consists of colorful and couture fashions, even over her armor.
She has her father's dark olive complexion and her mother's fair hair, but as often as not she's dyed part of it some wild color.

Okay, I'm going to withdraw Joran Bravestone and go with this guy instead: Drake

I think he's pretty much done mechanics wise but I tend to always miss something somewhere.

Okay, I have an idea. I think Patience is put together mechanically. I will get the character information written up tomorrow.

I was thinking more focus than anger, for the most part. Spirit Rage uses the word "possession," although I'm thinking more "guiding" than going quite that far.

Okay, that took me longer than intended. I also noticed some character sheet errors that I had to fix.

But he's done now. A little darker than I originally planned, but I was trying to tie in "You’ve been haunted by frightening dreams of fires your whole life. This could be the result of a past, near-death experience with fire..." more.

After looking through all of the great submittions I think I have decided on the group. I was tempted to try to do 2 tables, but I don't have the real life bandwidth for it now. Life has to take priority.

So here is the group:

  • Bertrum Halfwild
  • Mosquito
  • Vrolun Glirndolnack
  • Kana-Deniz Jerha
  • Beryl Brighthammer

One note is that a few of the people are Organized Play characters. This is not a PFS game at all. I just want to make sure everyone knows that. I am not 100% sure if there is an issue for a PFS character to play in a normal game, vs just an Alias.

If all the winners could dot into the Discussion we can plan on getting started!

Thank again, everyone for the submittions. It was very hard to make the final pick. If I had more time I would love to play with everyone here. Good luck everyone, may you roll many crits.

I broke the forum again.. (I did this last time I created a game).

Just in case its not clear. This is the link to the discussion thread now:

There might be another one floating around.. just let it die.
