LeGuin's readied action connects.
Missed it in my combat tracker, but the shadow has taken 36 damage so far.

I think it's 42 dmg total, 18 now +24 from first attack

Tusk emits a low growl as the slippery thing once again evades him and he resolves to get a magical bow. Though his least favored weapon, this is just unacceptable!
But then he realizes that his bardiche, with the extra length, might give him an opportunity to join the battle and he switches the dinky trident for his bardiche, and then readies an attack with the bardiche. In his hurry and reluctance to miss the next opportunity, the trident just plops to the floor.

Leo moves back and readies to re-apply Bold Stare when it reemerges. Will add 4 damage to the next hit. (as well as applying a -3 to Will Saves and Attack Rolls)

Target: 1d5 ⇒ 1
The shadow emerges from the wall and swings at Tathane again. Aryas and Hekk step up over to take swings at the creature. Aryas his, Hekk barely misses, his attack foiled somewhat by the allies standing in his way.
It looks like the shadow is going to escape once more, but Leo's encourages Aryas to do just enough damage to discorporate the creature. The shadows that make it up burst apart and hiss into the corners of the room, disappearing.
Now that the shadows aren't attacking you, there is a bit of time to study the room.
Refresher Description of the Room:
Stone double doors stand in the center of the south, east, and west walls of this room, although the door leading west is partially sealed with stone spread across the door like clay. A short pedestal bearing pale blue shards of shattered crystal occupies the center of this room, surrounded by a circle of runes carved into the floor. An alcove at the north end of this room contains a stone statue of a human man. The statue wields a lance and wears hide armor, but, strangely, it has been
turned away from the center of the room to instead face the blank alcove wall to the north.

"Hekk, you guys fight good. You all OK? Them shadows suck your energy right out of you, leavin' you real weak. I got me some scrolls in here," he points over his shoulder at his backpack, "that should help if they did."
How much strength damage did folks take? I can't do squat about the drain though. Shall we go east?

![]() |

"Hekk, I think I'd like to try this western door. There was a western passage back at the start and I'd like to see what it lead to. I hate to leave unexplored elements. By the by, Leopold, that mirror trick was a life saver. Any chance you could work your magic on me again?"
You get the sense Leguin is intentionally trying to avoid any of Leopold's lingo

![]() |

"OK. If you insist." Though he shakes his head in confusion.
What the heck is he talking about. Both ways are unexplored!

Arcana
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15
I, er, your thetodemon count is a little high, LeGuin. We're gonna have to do a reading before you can manifest your own greatness again.
Mechanically, I can only have two tricks implanted at a time. Hekk has Gift of Will and Aryas has the Mirror Image trick. Just trying to spread the love.

![]() |

"The west door sounds fine to me. But do you think that stone around it will keep it shut? It almost looks like the rock melted out and around the door."
Tathane moves to the door and tries to open it.

GM MattMorris |

Tathane is right. The western door appears to have been sealed shut by magic. It would need to be smashed open.
(Smashing the door: hardness 8, hp 40, break DC 22).

![]() |

"Nevermind, we can try the other way around after we explore east."

![]() |

I could maybe jaunt you to the other side of it, if we could bring your thetodemon count down for just a moment.

![]() |

Aryas does not feel comfortable here and it shows.
He is really silent and follows instead of leading, now.

![]() |

Hekk is confused by all these directional changes, but he's ready to move. "East now? Sounds good."
Not waiting for another round of deliberations, he opens the door to the east.

GM MattMorris |

Hekk opens the door to the east.
This large chamber’s vaulted ceiling arches twenty feet overhead. Rich but aged tapestries hang from the walls along with several shields depicting a black circle upon a field of blue. Multiple life-sized statues occupy the edges of the main floor. Four represent armored warriors holding lances and two represent armored warhorses. To the east, a short flight of steps ascends to an alcove containing a stone coffin surrounded with weapons and other treasures. A long lance with a cruel
barbed tip lies atop the coffin.

![]() |

Aryas casts detect magic and enters the room.

![]() |

"Whoever was interred here was a warrior, that's for sure. I don't particularly like disturbing the dead, but we were sent here to find the resting place of a warlord, Haramil, and see if that cradle artifact is with him. This looks like it could be the very place! So, I guess it's time to rummage through the remains."

GM MattMorris |

As Aryas enters the room, a spirit astride a ectoplasmic horse rises up out of the coffin, picking up the lance atop the coffin as it does so.

Free of the need to concentrate on Aryas's mirror image trick, Leopold implants another one in LeGuin. I also take a 5' step to LeGuin and draw a wand of remove fear.
Remember this LeGuin, you're good enough, you're smart enough, and doggone it, people like you.

GM MattMorris |

The creature is some sort of festering spirit, a ghostlike creature reeks of the grave and drips with putrescent goo. As you have seen, it has a 30 ft. aura of stench. (Fortitude save or be sickened). It's incorporeal, has channel resistance, and undead immunities. Also, it's covered in slime. Any creature that is hit by the spirit’s incorporeal touch attack, passes through its square, or hits it with a natural weapon or unarmed strike must attempt a Fortitude save. On a failure, the creature is nauseated for 1d4 rounds, and on a success the creature is staggered for 1 round.
The spirit takes a swing at Aryas as he approaches.
