Wow.That is cool you two.
I have two sets of kids, two from when I married young and dumb (A REALLY bad combo!) and my two with my new(er) wife.
My oldest has given me grandkids, who are school age now. And my youngest pair are in college.
The first of my second pair barely (not really) remembers her grandpa, My dad, giving her rides in his wheelchair. :)

Hello,
Yes "RL" sucks eggs. Especially THIS week. ;P
(Yeah, I didn't hear what I was hoping from my Monday Dr post-surgery visit) :(
Sincere apologies for my unusually long non-prolific posting.
I hope to get back to a reasonable posting habit, this week at least. (We are on Easter/Spring Break)
Hope that all are well, and hope to see you all in the threads! :)

Not trying to hold things up, just trying to buy time to let Kossel get the lay of the land here as knowing what we are breaking into ahead of time should help!

Hey everyone -
So, first a Mea Culpa. I should not have bailed without word for as long as I have. It is not cool. There were reasons, including getting engaged, having several family issues, and having a crazy work schedule. However, none of that excuses me.
I love these games, but my life is continually exhausting. Plus the work I do now precludes me from getting on like I used to. So, although I have the best of intentions to update and upgrade, all of a sudden I blink and two months have gone by. It's maddening.
So, where does that leave us? Honestly, I REALLY want to be better. I want to update on the regular, and I think I can do it, at least a little a day if I put my mind to it. HOWEVER, I know my track record is spotty at best these past few years.
If you're still interested, I will make a good-faith effort to update. Starting this weekend. We can see how it goes from there.

Yes, but knowing some of the rules better makes my encounters more challenging, which makes for better gameplay. Now, I love telling stories, but knowing the rules makes for a better story. I have a strong OG grognard AD&D ‘wing it’ mentality. The rules actually make it better.

Oh I respect the rules.
(You have to keep me, I mean US from running rampant somehow.) ;)But I also fully appreciate those who can say "The rules dont really say that, BUT your idea is so (something, over the top or fun or 'nobody thought of that!') that I want to see this play out!"
I've always thought that you had a great grasp of both. :)
Heck, you certainly are good at letting things play out different that we expected. Especially when we do something not necessarily well-thought-out.
(smashing an ice orb in the middle of the plane of fire? Water bomb in a fiery tower? or giving a Modron an erased name ring any bells?!?) ;)
Hey, you give us an interesting adventure, and WE keep YOU entertained!
It's a win-win!!! ;P

Yeah I’ll never be a rules maven, or even close to a CharOp guy, but I can tell a good story. And roll with the punches. Because this isn’t just my story, it’s OUR story
This is probably why we get along so well, it's how I run game, for the longest time I had a player adjudicating the more technical 3.5 rules that I could never be bothered to learn as I preferred to prep a fun game than a seminar on rules lawyering LOL

All I know is,
Whatever you are doing?
IT WORKS!! Keep it up! :)
FYI, I have always appreciated, (but not always remembered to TELL) those who go to all of the trouble of running the games I have played in over the years.
Back in the day I tried to give our friend who did most of our gamemastering a break from time to time. So HE could play too.
I was always glad to hand the reigns back over to him! He appreciated the chance to play, but we all agreed that his masterminding-Fu was way better than mine. ;P
SO, For those times that I forget to say it,...
THANK YOU to those to GM. We very much appreciate you. :D

Yeah, there was that one guy in Silver Rose who pissed in my cherrios about whether a perception roll would see something. I did not appreciate that one bit. And I let him know it wasn’t welcome at my table.

I remember that, the creature was on the ceiling right? I believe that was one of the first scenes that Hamar was in.

Ragadolf |

I remember that incident.
I also recall that was one of the best 'reveals' in print /game I had ever seen. :) (IMHO)
(Drip of blood onto the parchment that Justin was drawing a map on? Perfect.)
Being a stickler for rules is OK, but please dont piddle on a perfectly good game moment over them.
I will admit I'll bend the rules a bit too far if allowed.
(Not intentionally. I don't think. But lets be honest. I would.) :P
But being over-stuck on them ruins the 'Rule of Fun'.
There's a happy medium in there. Which you guys excel at.
Like you, I am an 'Old-School Grognard', from WAY back in 1st/Basic/AD&D rulesets, where half the things didn't have rules covering them yet, So we had to make them up on the fly.
Heck, thinking back on it, that was half the fun.:)
LOL,
Remind me (or not) to bore you with a 2nd ed tale of how a mage/thief used an Alter Self spell to get brownie points with an overprotective ghost in a tomb. ;)
Thanks again for the fun guys! I'm just glad to be along for the ride! :D

I was very proud of that reveal. One of the reasons I didn't react well to the Roger Taney of rules lawyers harshing my storytelling buzz.
LOL

SOOOOoooo,...
Under the category of, 'It never rains but it pours'
(Or, 'Adding insult to injury')
The 'cold' I have had for a week is now officially COvid. ;P
We figure that my recent radiation treatments lowered my immune response somewhat.
On the plus side, at least my AC is working! (The main AC breaker had fried. I replaced all the big double pole breakers in the box)
On with the show! :)

HAppy Birthday man! :)
Lol. Sorry, that was from a game Max ran where an amoral rogue I was playing killed some guards who were just sitting there. Max was like, “those guys were discussing where to take their buddy for his birthday and you sneak attacked them. So, ‘hey man it’s my birthday’ is our murderhobo code.
