Sorry, got slammed...

Hanna begins the hard work of attempting to bend the Winds to her Will, when the crazy Professor throws her bomb. It is all Hanna can do to avoid getting crushed!

[dice=Athletics:53]1d100

She manages to avoid a large chunk of the ceiling, but a smaller amount hits her shoulder.

3 wounds

Wincing from the sudden pain, she give a chastising look at the young professor, then notices the machine, "We'd be wise to get far away from that contraption before it also blow up..."

"Maybe I could just examine it for a bit," the Professor says hopefully looking at Hanna. "I think it's a WarpThrower, I've heard but never seen one before. It's amazing looking isn't it? Imagine using that for a bomb!! BOOM!!"

Adela avoided the debris, which was fortunate, as her order forbade helmets. A tenant that had gotten many a good man killed.

[dice=Prayer]1d100 SL4

Her axe began to glow as she prayed to Ulric. ”Agreed. It would be a foolish death. Fall back, I will cover the rear. Regroup outside the chamber.”

There really isn't an outside the chamber to regroup in. You've only moved forward 20 feet or so from the original tunnel collapse. The Professor appears to have weakened the ceiling all the way back to the original fault and now your only choices are to move forward (which means down the tunnel through the Skaven) or stand under a collapsing tunnel ceiling.

To finish Round 1 we need:

Adela's defense rolls against the attacking Stormvermin. As a reminder their rolls were:
Stormvermin #3 Attack Roll (45) dice: 1d100 ⇒ 50 Failure with SL -1
Stormvermin #4 Attack Roll (45) dice: 1d100 ⇒ 89 Failure with SL -2 (Gain +20 for Gang-up bonus on Adela).

and

Dirk's Attack
Here's a defense roll for whichever Skaven you attack. There are only the Stormvermin and the Engineers left. The Stormvermin have a Melee skill of 45 and the Engineer has a Dodge of 40.
Defense Roll: 1d100 ⇒ 2 For any of the remaining foes, that it a Success with a SL of +4.

and

Hanna never attacked in Round 1 which she can still do if she wants.

The above will finish off Round 1.

Wounds 30/32 | Initiative 26 | Cool 40, Dodge 64, Endurance 80, Melee (Shield) Defense 43 (+1 SL) | Fortune/Fate 1/2 | Resolve/Resilience 5/4 | Armor: Head 0 / Body 4 / Arms 4 / Legs 4 | Corruption: 0

Raising his hammer, Dirk charged in at the stormvermin attacking Ubaldo.

If I'm reading things right, it looks like Dirk can get Charge +10 as well as Outnumber 2v1 for +20.

Melee (Basic) 63 +10 +20: 1d100 ⇒ 6

One good single-digit opposed roll deserves another I guess. Depending on bonuses, it looks like Dirk got between +9 SL and +6 SL on his attack, which should be enough to beat the Stormvermin. Base damage is +5 Str +4 weapon. This would be Stormvermin 2 if Dirk could charge at that one properly, and it might have advantage from hitting Ubaldo, unless it lost the advantage due to taking Wounds from falling rocks.

The rat in front of Dirk was huge, but he squared his shoulders for his swing just before crashing into the creature. The skaven raised its weapon to block, but Dirk's momentum easily pushed the weapon aside.

Too bad Dirk can't shove this thing away from the magistrate. Ubaldo's best chance might attack & get some Advantage. If he can do that, he should be able to use up his Advantage to just walk away from the fight without penalties. (pg 165)

As for Hanna, she didn't attack but I think she failed to Channel Hysh?

Dirk's post reminded me that the rats need to make Athletics Skill Checks too

Engineer 1 Athletics Test (38): 1d100 ⇒ 59 Fail
Engineer 2 Athletics Test (38): 1d100 ⇒ 35 Success

Stormvermin 1 Athletics Test (50): 1d100 ⇒ 26 Success
Stormvermin 2 Athletics Test (50): 1d100 ⇒ 43 Success
Stormvermin 3 Athletics Test (50): 1d100 ⇒ 94 Fail
Stormvermin 4 Athletics Test (50): 1d100 ⇒ 90 Fail

The Engineer holding the nozzle of the contraption is clearly slowed down after being wounded a couple of times by Ubaldo. He moves much too slowly to avoid the crashing piece of the roof that hurtles towards his head. A particularly jagged piece crashes throw his skull causing him to drop like a rock at Ublado's feet.

The Engineer pulling the wagon jumps out of the way of the falling masonry and looks horrified by gurgling sounds coming from his machine.

Both of the Stormvermin that have been attacking Ubaldo manage to dodge the falling ceiling pieces. Stormvermin 2 still has Advantage +1

Both of the Stormvermin that attacked Adela are struck on the head by the debris. However, between their helmets and their thick skulls neither seems injured.

Nice roll

Dirk had an effective Attack Skill of 91 with Charge and Gang-Up and rolled a 6 which is a Success with a SL of +9. Stormvermin 2 rolled a 2 which is an Auto-Success with a SL +5...?

Looking for some help determining what happens when the Defender rolls an Auto-Success for his Parry but the Attack has a higher SL. Instinctively it would seem like an Auto-Success would trump the SL result and block the Attack but I don't see an answer to this specific case in the rules. What is everyone's opinion? I'm happy going with the consensus.

Round 1

Hanna, calming herself, grips the Winds with her mind and send bolts of pure light hurtling towards the skaven...

Language(Magick):68: 1d100 ⇒ 17

So that's SL of +5, so two extra missles of light stream forth, all doing SL + WP bonus or 5 + 5 = 10 Wounds. One at big skaven on Dirk and one for each attacking Adela

Dirk, the channelling was before combat started, trying to get a boost on spell chucking!

Wounds 30/32 | Initiative 26 | Cool 40, Dodge 64, Endurance 80, Melee (Shield) Defense 43 (+1 SL) | Fortune/Fate 1/2 | Resolve/Resilience 5/4 | Armor: Head 0 / Body 4 / Arms 4 / Legs 4 | Corruption: 0

To the best of my knowledge, success or failure doesn't have any impact on the opposed check evaluation. The Stormvermin definitely succeeded, but so did Dirk. Nothing in the auto-success rules say that it has any impact other than making the roll a success (possibly allowing Talent effects).

I did not realize that it had been so long since I posted anything. I am finding that this campaign is much more difficult to GM than the other I run because of the amount of combat and the fact that it's not a pre-made adventure. That being said, I'm happy to keep going if you all are still interested.

Between Dirk's bashing with the hammer and Hanna's bolt of light, one of the Stormvermin attacking Ubaldo squeals in pain and falls to the ground badly injured and out of the fight.

Adela's ax begins to glow with a bright, cold light that is painful to the sensitive eyes of the Skaven and the 2 Stormvermin confronting her shrink back.

The remaining engineer chitters to himself in fear and flees down the corridor leaving behind the wagon and the odd machine mounted upon it. The machine is making louder and louder rumbling sounds.

For the moment, the roof has stopped collapsing.

This ends Round 2.

The current situation is that there are 2 Stormvermin shrinking backwards in fear from Adela and 1 more Stormvermin that is engaged in combat with Umbaldo.

Round 3 Initiative Order
Ubaldo and Hanna can go in any order.
Then the 3 remaining Stormvermin go.
Then everyone else can go in any order.

Human Magistrate Damage (7) Wounds (14) Fate (3) Fortune (0/3) Resilience (3) Resolve (3/3) Movement (4) Corruption 2 Armour: Body 2 WS: 46 BS: 27 STR: 34 T: 34 Init: 47 Ag: 42 Dex: 30 Int: 47 WP: 53 Fel: 54

Ubaldo drives his blade for the stormvermin's black heart!

"Watch out for that contraption! It may explode!", he calls!

Practical Hand Weapon vs Stormvermin 91 (61 + 30 from 3 advantage - I think)

Strike! 91: 1d100 ⇒ 9

Damage SB + 4 + SL (bear in mind Practical quality). I believe that's also 4 advantage for Ubaldo.

Parry:

Parry 61+40: 1d100 ⇒ 38
