How close is the Temple of Nuln to us?
In the most direct route, about 12 blocks. You are in the Altestadt District and need to get to the heart of the Temple District, almost due west of your current location. The direct route takes you by the Justice Palace which is also the HQ for the Altestadt Watch. If you want to avoid the Justice Palace, it’d be about 15 blocks but then you have to pass by the Grand Temple of Verena and High Court of Justice. If you want to head North (up the Hill instead), you’d be about 15 blocks from the Becker Estate but you’d have to pass through the Richthofen Estate to get there.

Adela von Suderburg |

”Enough waiting. I am a Priestess Captain of Ulric and I will not cower. You may all come with me if you want, but I am going to the Temple. If you wish to go alone, I understand. But meet me there.” She said, boldly, trusting Ulric to watch his own.

Adela rationalized that skulking would make the guard swarm them, and a fearful populace would make the arrest all the easier. But a Warrior Priestess, covered in blood and leading a swarm of cheering men towards the Temple of Ulric? What Watchman would be foolish enough to stand in the way of that? It would certainly make a response inevitable, but at that point it would be directed against the Church. While many would be wary of making such a scene, she believed in the teachings of Ulric. She refused to be cowed. She refused to hide. She refused to be ashamed. She had done her Lord’s work and would act as such! And while ten gold was half of what she had on her, she was still a noblewoman and a Priestess Captain. The gold could be replaced, but what she wanted was for her crowd to be rowdy, loud, and joyful. Such a spectacle would do wonders for swaying the public’s perception of them.

Some in the crowd are awed by Adela's beauty and fall in happily, some are looking for something interesting to be able to discuss later and tag along as long as things are interesting and some resist all blandishments and just continue doing what they've been doing. A watch patrol falls in along side of your group as long as you're on the path to the Temple, careful to keep their distance.
The crowd cheers and doubles in size when the free alcohol starts being passed around which causes a festive atmosphere. Some of Adela's followers break into ribald satiric verses about the wolves of Ulric but are still happy to march along drinking their free drinks.
As you reach the Temple Quarter, you see your destination only a couple of blocks away. However, barring your way is a man who is clearly the high priest of Sigmar in Nuln, along with several hulking warrior priests, temple soldiers, lesser priests, scribes and even witch hunters. "IN SIGMAR'S NAME GO HOME!!" the priest shouts at the folk that have followed Adela. "THIS IS A MATTER FOR THE PRIESTS TO DISCUSS!"
As the crowd disperses, the high priest of Sigmar turns on Adela and says, "Explain yourself Lady. What is this cultist plot you have uncovered and are crowing about?"

Impressed with Adela's boldness, Hanna follows in the Wolf Captain's wake.
With the boisterous crowd, it is easy for Hanna to remain inconspicuous, not wanting her presence to dampen the enthusiasm Adela is able to muster.
Likewise, when the Sigmarites confront them, she doe not draw attention to herself, knowing her presence may blunt Adela's out her in public.
Once they've entered the security of Adela's temple, she'll feel more confident to speak her mind...

Ubaldo Hartig |

Ubaldo launches into a description of what has occured.
"We were each summoned by a letter to meet with Hieronymous Ostwald, Secretary to Her Serene Highness. We were tasked with venturing into the sewers to discover what force had caused the disappearance of most of the sewer jacks. Ostwald brought us to a divination ritual involving three blue mages. That ended poorly as one was possessed by a demon and slew the others before we slew it. After some days of preparation, we once again with Ostwald, who expressed fear of interference by the secret police before we entered the sewers."
"Once in the sewers, we soon ran into conflict. A group of Skaven - the very real ratmen. Those including a rat ogre, we slew. Soon after, a barrier or dam was breached and flooded the tunnels we were in. We escaped and came across a trio of hooded figures. One fled. The other two were skaven, including a white-furred caster, which we also slew and from whose bodies we retrieved a list of names. We gave chase to the third figure, who turned out to be none other than Count von Halstadt. One tense standoff later, he agreed to meet with us. This was yesterday."
"Today, we met with him. Von Halstadt was able to maintain a demeanour of politeness for only a short time before exposing himself under basic questions. He admitted to allying with the skaven to fight a chaos cult, supposedly to defend his patron with whom he had a frankly disturbing fixation. As part of this "alliance", he poisoned the sewer jacks on the ratmen's say-so. He was determined to have the list, which he believed to be a list of chaos cultists and made it clear that he would execute everyone on that list. Any attempt to make him see reason and repent for his crimes only revealed further depths to his delusions and bloodlust. He actually believed the word of these rats and their lies about their own numbers. Priestess von Suderburg here executed him. After this, we discovered a secret passage and chamber of the Counts. After retrieving documents from there, we exfiltrated through a sewer exit, and reached street level not long ago. It was then that we proclaimed our victory and that it came to your ears."
"You can see the utmost severity of this situation. Thanks to a gullible and high-placed madman, Nuln has been made vulnerable to the skaven and any other enemy who chooses to strike at us from below. We need to be united and as steel in our resolve. Do we have the support of the Temple of Sigmar?"

If anything it accentuated her natural charms. As Ubaldo laid out what had transpired, she quietly provided the evidence at the appropriate times. The head of the grey seer. The head of Von Halstadt. The letter of targets that were provided by the skaven. Thus, with the story being told, each detail was immediately supported by physical evidence.
Does this give Ubaldo advantage, or do I make my own roll?

Witch-hunter Captain Reinhold Schild leans forward as he hangs on every word of the story. ”Sir, we must gather our forces and strike at once. I will personally lead our forces and by Sigmar, I Reinhold Schild, will destroy this outrage.!”
Gottlieb gives you all a questioning look. ”As Reinhold said we will join you in destroying the infestation of our city but so far I have no clear idea of where to strike? Where would you have our force go? The sewers is too broad of a suggestion as we could spend weeks searching and find nothing.”

Dirk Liestag |

Dirk was relieved at the sudden turn in events following the sudden turn in events. It seemed that he wouldn't be branded a noble-murderer today, at least.
As Gottlieb asked for further direction, Dirk took the opportunity to speak up, "Well, the most obvious thing we can do is go back down to scout the sewers again. I'd agree that sending down soldiers in force with no idea where to go is unwise. Mighty convenient for our enemies that the Count had all the Sewer Jacks killed..."
Then another thought strikes him. "We also found some coded messages in the hidden chamber of the Count's that we mentioned earlier. We weren't able to figure them out in a hurry, but if some of the scholars here put their heads together, maybe they can make something of it. Could go back there now to make sure we didn't miss anything important as well...we were in a rush."

"Since the reign of Magnus the Pious, we who devote our lives to Sigmar have become more accepting of users of Magick though we do believe that all Magick comes from Chaos and is therefore tainted. Your garb and possessions indicate a Wizard of Hysh. Is that so? We would consider that the least, uhm, unclean of the wizard orders and have worked with them occasionally in the past to both of our betterment. We shall treat you with respect unless some action of yours warrants a different approach."
Finally Gottlieb stares with some coldness into Adela's eyes and the kindly old man shows the steel of his character that allowed him to fight and claw his way to the leader of the Temple of Sigmar in one of the most important cities in the Old World. "You have done well Wolf-Priest but remember that the turf batter over Nuln was won long ago by Sigmar and that will NOT CHANGE. We gladly work with our Brothers and Sisters of Ulric but in turn they need to remember this is not their city. Your little parade earlier presses up against the line of what we will tolerate." The University of Nuln is an ancient institution, one of the first schools founded in the Empire and certainly dating back to the earliest days of the Empire. Though its prominence has waned somewhat, especially in the face of the progressive centres of learning in Altdorf, the University is respected and regarded as one of the finest in the world. Part of Nuln's cosmopolitan nature stems from the diverse student body that comes to study here, for wealthy parents send their children from as far away as Araby to study here. The school specializes in mathematics, philosophy, theology, literature, and some sciences, disdaining the fringe sciences of newer programs. A student studying here receives a fine, albeit classical, education, with an attention to becoming a good imperial citizen. The student body is almost exclusively noble, with only a very few sons of the merchant class in attendance—tuition is high indeed.
The campus of the university rivals that of the Imperial Gunnery School. Situated along Commercial Way, it consists of four large buildings—three hold lecture halls, while the last is for students—surrounding a great statue of the school's founder, Sebastian Veit, a scholar and pious follower of Sigmar. Each building is named for a cardinal point: North Hall, East Hall, South Hall, and West Hall (the dorms). The school's architecture is much like the Imperial Gunnery School, being large and intimidating. Visitors can tour the South Hall to look out onto the Reik Platz, though only at certain times, which change with each semester. Decorated with the stone busts that celebrate the great scholars who studied or taught here, as well as religious paintings recounting the deeds of Sigmar, Magnus the Pious, and others of import to the Empire's history, the interiors are not much more appealing than the exterior.
The North Hall contains the University of Nuln Library which takes up the top two floors of the massive building. A librarian is helpful in narrowing down the area of the library to look.

The famous researcher Hieronymous agrees to try to decipher the parchment for you.
Perhaps the University's best-known scholar, he recently compiled a great treatise for the Emperor Karl Franz himself. It includes information on the history of the Old World, a broad discussion of the foundation of the Empire, plus travelogues for the major nations including Bretonnia, Kislev, Tilea, and Estalia, whilst also venturing to describe the distant lands of Araby, the Southlands, Cathay, and more. Largely considered the definitive source for historical and geographical information, this volume has been distributed throughout the Provinces of the Empire.
Neither Dirk nor Jarvey arrived at the library. You do know that they were heading to the Apothecary earlier.

Melee (Defense) Shield 43 (+1 SL) vs Skaven 1: 1d100 ⇒ 1 - success with +5 SL, so avoided that attack
Melee (Defense) Shield 43 (+1 SL) vs Skaven 2: 1d100 ⇒ 14 - Dirk would've had 1 advantage here: success with +5 SL, so hit with +1 SL & +2 armor
"Little runts!" Dirk shouts as he tries to bring his warhammer down on the rat-creatures.
If he can get to it without disengaging or anything, Dirk will swing at Skaven 3, trying to protect Jarvey. Otherwise, he'll attack Skaven 1.
Melee (Basic) 63: 1d100 ⇒ 47
Doing some game math real quick: reversing Skaven 2's hit on Dirk gives a hit location of Right Arm, so he would have 6 armor and 6 Toughness Bonus to defend that location from Wounds. Might not stop it all, but it should be close.
Dirk's base damage on his attack would be +5 Strength +4 Hand Weapon for +9, modified by SL. Not a bad turn.
Just to check with the GM: I'm assuming we could look at the Skaven defense spoiler after our attack on them and then decide whether to Fortune it. The main point of it would be so that we'd have to pick our target before knowing how good or bad they rolled. Is that right?

@Hanna: I think that is a description of Hieronymous' own work.
"We should. Hopefully he has not had a mishap."
Ubaldo's excellent Night Vision allows him to see a scuffle that's occurring in an alleyway a few blocks away. The details are hard to make out but you can tell there are 5 creatures engaged in a fight, 4 of them man-sized and 1 the size of a fat child.

Dirk almost contemptuously slams aside the attack of the first Skaven but unfortunately that pulls his shield out of position and allows the second Skaven to strike with his dagger. Between his farm bred toughness and his excellent armor, the Skaven's blade barely scratches Dirk's skin (1 Wound of Damage) but immediately that small scratch feels like it's both on fire and freezing at the same time. Dirk struggles to keep his balance...
Make a Challenging (+0) Endurance Check, failure means that the Warp-stone poison has begun it's filthy work of corrupting you and you gain 1 point of Corruption.
In addition to the foul Chaos tinted Warp-stone, the Skaven excel in the use of more traditional poisons. Make a Difficult (-10) Endurance Check or suffer 2 Poison Conditions.
You have been poisoned or injected with venom. All Tests to remove poison have their difficulty determined by the poison or venom suffered. At the end of each Round, lose 1 Wound, ignoring all modifiers. Also, suffer a penalty of –10 to all Tests. If you reach 0 Wounds when Poisoned , you cannot heal any Wounds until all poisoned conditions are removed. If you fall Unconscious when Poisoned , make an Endurance Test after a number of Rounds equal to your Toughness Bonus or die horribly. At the end of each Round, you may attempt an Endurance Test. If successful, remove a Poisoned Condition, with each SL removing an extra Poisoned Condition. A Heal Test provides the same results. Once all Poisoned Conditions are removed, gain 1 Fatigued Condition.
Since Skaven 2 has +1 Advantage over Dirk, he cannot disengage to attack Skaven 3.
Dirk puts his Warhammer to good use against Skaven 1.
Skaven had a Defense Roll of 84 which is a Failure with SL -2. Dirk had an Attack Roll of 47 which is a success with SL +2 which becomes SL +3 due to +1 SL for having a practical weapon. SL difference is +5 and Dirk now has Advantage +1.
Hit Location is 74 - Body
Damage is SB (5) + Weapon (4) + SL Diff (5) - AP (1) and TB (5) for a total of 8 Wounds inflicted.
The lead Skaven assassin staggers back after taking a crushing blow to his chest. However, even after being hit that hard, he makes so sound and his dagger is immediately up and ready to attack again.

Jarvey Glintloque |

As they are set upon Jarvey brings his trusty repeator to bear on the Skaven assassin threatening to gut him...
(Not sure if there's any penalties for using range weapons in melee? Like Attack of Opportunity in PF etc. Regardless if he can, he will (regardless of the risk) On my work PC at present so have no access to the rules :)
Ranged (Blackpowder) 62 (-10): 1d100 ⇒ 13
Damage (Repeater Pistol): SL3+8+1 = 12 (Non-metal APs are ignored)
