REWARDS:

MASTER OF STARS TOUCH-UP:

Level 1 Fitch shows the PCs some of the inner workings of the Master of Stars, which help the PCs better understand other starships. Once during the adventure, the PCs can gain a +4 bonus to any non-gunnery skill check during a starship combat.

Level 2 When using the reward above, all the PCs' non-gunnery skill checks made during the same round gain the +4 bonus.

Level 3 In place of the level 1 reward, the PCs can force the crew of an enemy ship to take a –2 penalty to all non-gunnery skill checks made during the round. The use of this ability must be declared at the start of the starship combat round.

PRAYER AND REFLECTION

Level 1 The PCs gain significant insight into Iteration-177's understanding of the divine and share a portion of his intuition. A PC can gain a +2 bonus to any one Mysticism, Perception, or Sense Motive check within the Scoured Stars. This allows the PC to count as being trained in Mysticism for the duration of the adventure.

Level 2 In place of the reward above, a PC can add a +1 bonus to any one saving throw while within the Scoured Stars.

Level 3 When using either reward above, the PC can double the bonus.

ROOKIE TRAINING

Level 1 The PCs improve their allies' morale, making them more reliable in combat. Once during the adventure, the group can gain the benefit of aid another (+2 bonus) to all skill checks for 1 round.

Level 2 When using this reward, the benefit applies to both skill checks and attack rolls.

Level 3 In place of the level 1 reward once during the adventure, when the table uses an Aid Token, they gain two benefits instead of one. They cannot choose the same effect twice.

STARSHIP PRIMING

Level 1 Pleased with the PCs' review, Celita outfits the Starfinder fleet with better weapons-tracking software for targeting jinsul ships. Once during the adventure, the PCs gain a +2 bonus to any one starship combat gunnery roll, and that attack does not consume ammunition in the case of a weapon with the limited fire property.

Level 2 When using the reward above, all of the PCs' gunnery rolls during that round gain that benefit.

Level 3 In place of the level 1 reward, a PC can select any one successful starship weapon attack to count as critical damage if it deals Hull Point damage, even if the die result isn't a natural 20.

SUPPLY RUN

Level 1 Zigvigix grants the PCs priority access to some Starfinder Society equipment. Once during the adventure, each PC can requisition a weapon with an item level up to the PC's level for the duration of one mission. The group must use this ability prior to starting a new encounter, and this ability cannot be used during Part 4. The weapon comes with a full battery or magazine.

Level 2 In addition to the reward above, the PCs can also requisition a single consumable item with an item level up to the PC's level. These consumables cannot have permanent effects, and PCs who don't use them during the course of the scenario must return them at the end of the adventure.

Level 3 When using the level 1 reward, the weapon can have an item level up to the PC's level + 1.

TACTICAL PREPARATIONS

Level 1: The PCs assist overviewing the Society's default plan of engagement. The PCs can reroll any one skill check while in the same location as a fleet.

Level 2: Once during the adventure, while in the same location as a fleet, the PCs can instead activate this reward to gain a +2 bonus to each of their initiative checks for that mission.

Level 3: During a single encounter in the same location as the jinsul fleet, the PCs can activate this reward to remove any extra enemies or challenges provided by the jinsul fleet.

High Society Influence (Iteration-177) Ally boon:
Ailuros grants the PC some of their little remaining magical energy. Up to three times during the encounter, the PC can cast dimension door as a spell-like ability, using their character level as their caster level.

Iteration-177's Attention Ally boon:
The divine herald suffuses the PC's memory with divine power, manifesting as a magical effect for the duration of the encounter.

Choleric memories grant the benefit of resistant armor.

Melancholic memories grant all of the PC's weapons the benefits of the frost weapon fusion.

Phlegmatic memories grant the benefit of shield other, with Ailuros taking half the damage (up to 100 damage before they collapse).

For sanguine memories the PC can gain the benefits of greater remove condition at the start of their turn up to three times during the combat.

Surviving Companion boon:
The alien creature accompanying you decides to curiously inspect the devices. You can reroll one skill check to interface with the devices during the course of this encounter, as your alien companion inadvertently assists you with its meddling.

Meta- everyone does at least one starship combat in this special and there is nothing on the chronicles reliant on it. I still wouldn't mind doing the starship mission after the interrogation mission, but mostly because I think starship combat is harder at low tier.

I'm good with a Starship combat next.

For that I have the ability to fit in a few roles as Engineer (+15 Engineering), Gunner (+10), and Chief Mate (+13 Athletics to support Engineer, Pilot, or Science Officer).

Depending on what other roles others take I'm happy to be able to fill any of these spots as they are available.

Thri-Kreen is best as a gunner (+13), followed by Pilot +16 (7 ranks), Science Officer (+11), Captain (Intimidate +11, and using Aid rather than Diplomacy), and Magic Officer (+15). He also isn't afraid to spend a few RP for broadside and Lock On.

Duhm Kaoh actually has a boon that provides him a significantly better role as a backup gunner. He uses Mysticism for Piloting ranks and Wisdom instead of Dexterity. He effectively would be a +11 gunner.

Unless someone has a Manticore or Gorgon boon they slotted. I'd pretty strongly argue for the Drake's weapons (in character) in a situation like this. Reminder, either way, I have the Defender of the Fleet - Finest Weapons (reroll 1s on weapon damage rolls) boon slotted unless someone else already had it slotted, in which case I have Defender of the Fleet - Finest Engines (+2 to ship speed).

Being Chief Mate looks good with me with that role set. Depending on what Raatchet is doing in a round I would might take on the Engineer role. For example if the ship needs a system patched and could use two engineers to divert and patch. Or if Ratchet wanted to focus on Science Officer role.

I usually stick to Captain, but will frequently run around Cpt. Janeway style to fill gaps as combat progresses.

When this is over I'll be spending an RP to get my biohacks back. I've also got a 20 HP Healing Touch, 4 level 1 Mystic Cures, and a +10 Medicine for anyone that needs it. I've also got a Mk 2 serum, but I keep that loaded in my rifle for emergency ranged healing. I figure we'll want to split the healing between Duhm and I, though looks like he'll need a good portion of it for himself.

I admit that while I have been more confident wading into melee with my set of DR along with energy resistances, I've had to stop myself a few times from declaring that I'm 'indestructible' or other words to the effect. I feel as soon as I do so a giant thing will come and crit me for my hubris.

I am happy to have the games I have in the special right now. I normally look forward to them but it is especially nice right now.

Feel free to flex back and forth in your roles. In that first turn, Duhm might want to serve as magic officer in order to do mystical scans of the enemy ship, and then shift to the secondary gunner seat.

And though it takes more time on my end to do it this way, setting up starship combat with as much information as I can give you up front seems to do wonders in speeding things up in PBP. Each one of my Starship Combat posts will include a summary of what you've learned from scans, and links to the Drake 8 and Starship Combat Cheat Sheets! Fortunately, once I have set this up on Google Docs, updating for each round is easier!

I probably won't be able to check back in again tonight. Feel free to bot me. I'm not sure if the enemy ship is faster than we are, or not, but if it is, and it's needed to keep up (beyond just Divert Power actions from the Engineer), I'm willing to spend a resolve or two on Full Power to catch up to them. I generally just try to stay in whatever facing the SO tells me is offensively their weakest if I have that option and Evade.

Jindam has already acted this round so he should be good for now. I'm kind of hoping Ratchett will use Lock On, but that is an RP expenditure so I'm not going make that call for him.

I think it is interesting that the table I am GMing has picked all the same missions in the same order without any influence from me, and we are keeping roughly similar paces. It has made it easy for me to observe how a GM with more PBP experience handles similar situations. At first I was lurking on all the tables but I have gotten away from that.

I'm definitely taking notes and "borrowing" some good ideas. I like the way you handle Identify Creatures. Starship scans are easy, it is always the same information in the same order, but with creatures in real time games I usually let players pick what bits of information they would like to know. That kind of back and forth isn't practical in PBP. Just giving the most relevant bits already spoilered with the first few DCs seems like a great solution. Possibly more natural too, it isn't like characters are going to know exact ACs and HP (for example) in world anyway, but it is reasonable to know if a creature has a far amount of energy resistance for their level.
