Remnants of a Dead World (Inactive)

Game Master kamenhero25

Adventurers come from across the stars to make a new life on a long dead planet draped in mystery.

1 to 50 of 102 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | 3 | next > last >>

The massive metropolis world of Ikirit is a mystery to science and magic alike. A world of endless, sprawling cities, yet devoid of civilization and any form of intelligent life. Built of metal and polymer, yet overrun with green as nature reclaims its lost place from the now abandoned urban sprawl. Only recently discovered by the rest of the galaxy, colonies have begun to spring up on the surface as residents from across the Pact Worlds come to seek knowledge and wealth from the ruins and possibly to make new lives for themselves on the strange new planet.

Welcome to the official recruitment for my first PbP Starfinder campaign! Where the players will take the role of colonists, researchers, guards, or anyone else with the drive to travel to a new world and strike out for fame, fortune, and to build a future among the crumbling city ruins of the lost planet. Recruitment will be open until January 4th, 2020 so that everyone has time to get things done through the holidays and we can start at the beginning of the new year.

Character Creation
Starting Level: 3rd
Classes: Any Paizo, including the Character Operation Manual
Races: Any Paizo
Starting Wealth: 4000 credits
Backstory: I'm not expecting a novel, but a history that at least gives a good idea of who the character is and why they're looking to move to Ikirit is the minimum. More unusual concepts will require more work here to make them fitting.

A good rule of thumb for character options and equipment is that if it's on the SRD or Archive of Nethys, I'll almost certainly allow it as long as it's from Paizo.

Dotting in as likely submitting a Vesk Vanguard, unless I change my mind.

I'm going to be submitting an Android Icon (either envoy or operative, not sure which yet) who is on the planet as basically a publicity stunt. He's a musician that specializes in music that AIs/Robots/Androids find good, but is grating on human(oid) ears.

I'm going to have a close look at the SRD. I'm inclined towards Solarian, Operative or Soldier.

Edit: Screw it, I can't deny it, I love JedisSolarians.

Dotting, debating what I might want to play.

Dang, Faceless, I've not played Starfinder, nor learned the system, but your premise certainly makes it tempting :)

I’m thinking I’ll play a Human Witchwarper Icon. She’s going to Ikirit for two reasons:
1: She wants to cover the colonization efforts.

2: Due to how her powers work (interacting with alternate dimensions), she is starting to feel alittle overwhelmed where she is now. Since she subconsciously experiences alternate versions of herselves’ lives while she sleeps. So she feels she needs a change of pace

Liberty's Edge

I'm thinking of applying with a Shirren Mechanic or Biohacker. It depends on how exactly I feel the character will go as I work on them.

Redotting

Grand Lodge

I am working on building an Uplifted Bear with either Vanguard or Biohacker. Which I play would be based on what the team needs.

--

As a Biohacker, Bruno (name is a placeholder) is not only interested in exploring this planet for new living things, he also gets to go to a world that requires doctors too much to refuse the services of a large bear doctor just because he is a large bear.

--

As a Vanguard, Smokey (name pending) is interested in large scale system and why they collapse. Ikirit is an interesting opportunity to see not only this collapse in action, but maybe find out what caused it to collapse in the first place.

Hmmm, I'm trying to figure out how to best maximize a creature companion...

I was thinking maybe a Combat Expertise Envoy but I've already got one of those in play and another pending in a planned game. An operative with Quick Trick would probably work nicely now that I think of it.

So the setting is a densely urban planet that is being reclaimed by nature? Are we talking multi-level urban build up like Star Wars' Coruscant?

I'm hoping to submit a character in the next couple of weeks.

Leaning toward a biohacker, but also intrigued by some other possibilities.

Sczarni

Yay! Game's up.

Great gazette, too! Reading it gave me an idea for my biohacker concept.

An orc, or half-orc, doctor (dorctor, as it were) from Apostae, in indentured servitude to House Azrinae, being brought to the planet simply because he's a helluva lot tougher (and a lot cheaper and expendable) to the house than Drow doctors. And I definitely see Drow as rather unlikely to trust any doctor that's not their own.

The good doctor might have ideas of his own, however, and has been working alongside House Azrinae to have surprising insight into the Drow and the concept of liberty that a new colony entails.

The concept is mechanics-proof - I could either go melee or ranged Biohacker, or throw in a level of Soldier for good measure. I could see him being relegated to the House Azrinae delegate on the planet. The theme will most likely be either Scholar (Life Science with specialisation in Biology), or Biotechnician (as the drow are rather fond of some light fleshcrafting, if I recall correctly).

I'll get the backstory sorted and hope to submit it by next week.

Hmmm... maybe I'll re-build my dragonkin soldier/technomancer. A world full of ancient technology would definitely be a lure for him.

Glad to see the recruitment is properly up!

Dotting for now. I think I may work on a Nuar Mechanic. Got a few ideas around that which should fit well in the "colonist" theme that seems to be central to this. Crunch and story to follow in the days to come. Thanks.

Sort of the same concept, but not quite as over the top. Imagine a planet where the entire surface is the urban density of New York City, but it's been reclaimed by nature.

So some impressive sky scrapers but most buildings around 10-ish stories and reaching about equally far under the ground?

I wasn't thinking quite that specifically, but something along those lines. There are more skyscrapers than what we consider normal, and obviously with a different architectural style.

Background:

Jack was born to a merchant family on Central Station 27 years ago. In order to help pay their terrible debts, he was immediately sold to Securite Incorporated, the security mega-corp that dominated the family's franchise. There he was raised as Jack 1322 to become an employee of Securite. Apart from the nurses and android maids, he had nothing in the way of a mother figure in his life, while his domineering sergeant was his father figure. He grew up under Sergeant Von 947 for the majority of his life, along with his 'sister' Private Sephia 1213, and several other brothers and sisters. Even as a child, he was keenly aware that he would have to pay Securite back after he reached working age, and this weighted heavily on him. Private Jack 1322 excelled in physical training, but didn't perform very well in the academy. It was decided that he would be trained as a trooper, which could range from anything from guard to corporate infantryman to space cargo escort. He said goodbye to his sister Private Sephia when he turned 18, as she was studying to become a mechanic. His work took place primarily on Central Station, where he was a 'security guard'. While this line of work could indeed look like asset protection, what Private Jack 1322 was commonly instructed to do was to 'make the rounds'. With a team, Jack would go to various clients of Securite and persuade them to pay their debts. While his father had been domineering, his boss Lieutenant Evdocado 47 was straight-up cruel. Jack sought solace with some of his friends, both online and in person. One such person was a young man named Private Martn 1501, who worked one district away.
Over the years, Jack and Martn realized their feelings for one another and became a couple in secret. Unfortunately it only lasted a few months before they were discovered. Martn was transferred to another system, and Jack couldn't get in contact with him. Jack's job got harder and harder as Lieutenant Evdocado 47 punished him. The breaking point was when Jack was doing the rounds, along with the Lieutenant personally. Jack had to lead the intimidation of a merchant family, and when they protested that they couldn't pay, Jack was ordered to beat them into submission. Jack used his pent up resentment to beat the couple into submission, only for Evdocado to laugh. He then revealed that these two are his bioparents. Jack couldn't take it any more. He attacked the Lieutenant, who quite easily rebuffed him. Then he fled the scene, narrowly escaping by recklessly jumping off a boarding dock onto a ready-to-launch ship.
Jack travelled from country and planet searching for discreet work. He swore not to serve a corrupt company again, nor to engage in such brutal and cruel ways, especially for profit. He never saw or heard of his family or lover again. With 18000 credits of debt to Securite, and technically a fugitive capable of being hunted, Jack buried a lot of his stress and grief with heavy drink. After a rare successful job searching a dangerous radiation zone for explosives, Jack was given a recommendation letter. His employer said that he didn't have any more work for him, but a friend of his could use his help. This letter was addressed to Ikri-5, an Android on Ikirit. Jack figured he could get a decent exploration job there, and decided to fly out to the strange planet. He's only been on soil for two days now, with very little of a plan.

Appearance and Personality:

Jack is a male human with beige skin. His hair is blonde and cut short in a military fashion. He shaves regularly, though it takes him awhile to grow much facial hair. He stands 5 feet, 10 inches tall with a medium build, 185lbs and fit. He's 27 years old, by Central orbits. He has blue eyes, which stare blankly when he's deep in thought. Combined with a constant frown, he looks quite grumpy, even brooding when deep in thought. Jack walks straight as a marching band, makes sure he's well dressed, keeps everything clean (on good days), and regularly fails to understand how to relate with non-military types. He spends his free time drinking, playing vidgames, and talking with some online friends. Exercise keeps his mind off things, and he does enjoy the natural world when he gets the chance. He doesn't have the greatest opinion of xenos and androids, but is willing to work with them if they're cooperative. Jack is homosexual, and prefers feminine men.

Jack wants to help the downtrodden, if only in a vain attempt to redeem himself. He knows that taking credit (both literally and figuratively) can lead to unwelcome visits, so he prefers to be anonymous. He has a simple black mask, like a bandanna, that he'll wear over his face if he's about to become a vigilante. He wants to stay away from Securite, and hasn't fully decided if he should work towards his debt, which may free him, or to continue living for himself.

Dotting. As I said in the interest thread, I'm thinking of playing a Ferran with the Colonist background, though I'm undecided on the class. Probably something along the lines of Mechanic or Technomancer, given how Ferrans don't put much stock in mysticism.

Greetings! Meet Father Rhysshikk.

Level: 3rd
Class: Mystic
Race: Ryphorian (Transitional)
Backstory:
At 60 years old, Rhyss is a fixture in the settlement of Hunter's Port, one of the last Ryphorians to manifest to the Triaxian Transitional features--short gray hair on his head with hairless dark skin everywhere else. While not particularly physically imposing or capable, Rhyss is a skilled healer, herbalist, and cook.
Moving on from his home planet shortly after he reached adulthood, Rhyss misses Triaxus but has no desire to live in perpetual winter, so he moved on to space exploration. After many years of trying to settle different places, he came to the ruined metropolis of Ikirit. Rhyss found satisfaction in the power of nature overcoming the ruins of ancient technology, and he learned to harness the power of both.
Of course, it didn't hurt that he could cook a mean gumbo from meat and herbs he foraged for himself...

Backstory:

Morgan grew up on Absalom Station, raised by his single overprotective parent. He was not allowed to do any afterschool activities and was made to come right home after school. This made Morgan a shut-in who spent all of his time online (his mother set restrictions on infosphere usage, but ironically knew very little about the technology itself, which lead to him quickly learning how to change settings to give him full access to the 'sphere).

One thing that Morgan grew to love was old video games. While his classmates were all into the latest expansion for Pathfinder (the VRMMORPG set on Pre-Gap Golarion), Morgan was playing 2d games from before his mother was alive.

Thus went his days, until the day that his powers activated.

Morgan had saved his money and purchased the data module for a pre-gap game that no one had played. It was based on an OS that no longer existed (although it was referenced several times in various computer textbooks) and Morgan REALLY wanted to play it, using every tool at his disposal to try and get it working on a modern computer system. Finally, after days of staying awake trying to make it work, Morgan went to sleep.

In his dream, he was playing the game, which had him exploring a dungeon think a modern day first-person rogue-like rpg, but at the same time HE was clearly exploring this dungeon.

The game had a wierd magic system, but in his dream he picked it up really quickly, and continued to progress through the game. Eventually, Morgan encountered the last boss, and after alot of trial and error, he managed to beat it. As he did, light flooded his vision, and Morgan woke up.

When he awoke, he was in a hospital bed, with his mother asleep next to him. That aside, however, he noticed that his arms and chest were covered with slightly glowing tattoos in a language he barely recognized as Draconic.

When he awoke his mother, he discovered that he had been in a coma for over a year. His mother had no explanation for the tattoos, but Morgan wasn't even released from the hospital before his technomancer abilities revealed themself. Having missed the last year of High School, Morgan instead jumped straight into a technomancer trade school, learning to use his abilities. During his time at school, he created a powerful computer with a built-in AI that he wore as a wristwatch.

After graduating, Morgan took a position with the Sanctum Conglomerate, a small Shirren company that had rights to excavate a new planet. Morgan agreed to relocation to Ikirit, with the condition that his mother not be informed of his location, as after his accident she had become overly controlling, obsessive, and emotionally manipulative.

Now Morgan is trying to find his way in the galaxy and decide what sort of man he wants to be.

Hello again.

I've been looking around a bit and thought I would ask here: is there any knight or whatever Order for Solarians? Or any Order akin to Solarians? If not, wouldn't you mind if I made up myself a small Order of people revering the Universe as an abstract concept akin to Jedi, Shinto or something similar? That would be the character allegiance, and he would have been sent here to protect the colonists and archaeologists and maybe find some obscure knowledge or artifacts by himself.

Here's my draft for Xevras, Dragonkin Technomancer/Soldier. Backstory to come, but the basic idea is that he's a curious, intelligent sort who loves science and technology and also would like some more room to stretch his wings than more settled worlds tend to provide, so he's come to Ikirit for research and exploration.

Also, here is some art I have of him from his previous incarnation. :D

On Absalom Station there's the Order of the Empty Orbit, which follows the kasathan philosophy of the Cycle, with an added focus on keeping an eye out for and stopping the abuse of massive magic and tech that can mess with things like planets and stars, so events like Golarion's disappearance don't happen again. They even have rankings similar to Jedi like "proto-sol" and "Sola" in place of "Padawan" and "Jedi Master."

They were introduced in the Gazeteer of Absalom Station back in Dead Suns #1: Incident on Absalom Station, through the description of their Cosmonastery, and recently got a more detailed writeup in Attack of the Swarm! #4: The Forever Reliquary in the article on Pact Worlds monastic orders.

If you're looking for a more Jedi-like group, you may also consider the Knights of Golarion as well, which Owen Stephens goes into great detail on in This Starfinder Wednesday vid. There's no class requirements, so they'd happily welcome solarians willing to stand and fight for justice. They're more a paramilitary organization, though, so they'd feel more like Clone Wars Jedi than normal Jedi...

Actually, I saw Archpaladin Zousha's idea about the Ferrans and I had to double check what I know about the race - the quest for a colony sounds amazing.

There's just a couple of paragraphs on them in their sourcebook, but that just means there'll be more chance to improvise and develop them!

My idea's changed to a kind and well-meaning Ferran doctor, keen on making sure that the planet and the colonists are safe, but also gain a good enough reputation with the colony management to let more Ferrans come and settle

@Archpaladin, maybe we can do a common idea for the background and develop the race further?

Actually, after thinking it over, I'm going to make an SRO Witchwarper.

Basically, a robot that was build to help study the Dreamers of Liavara. However, after a prophetic 'dream', he traveled to Ikirit to find its meaning.

Thinking about a Ysoki / Outlaw / Mechanic.

Desperate to leave his boring life, he signed on as a ships mechanic, not realizing it was a pirate vessel. Vessel was captured, and a life term at Daegox 4 was in the cards... When... A random meteor took out the prison transport killing everyone on board except our young mechanic. He was able to stow away on an outbound supply ship.

As his remains were never recovered he was never removed from the “wanted” list so maybe this would be the right spot to start life anew.

Grand Lodge

I've decided to go with a Vangaurd of the Verthani of Verces Colonist.

His name translates to Vector, and he is acting as a sort of forward observer for his people. The Verthani are excellent at efficient usage of resources, but Vector believes that even their culture could break down.

He has traveled to Ikirit to investigate what caused this species to fall so that his own species could avoid those mistakes. Any resources he can gather for his people is just simply a bonus.

Backstory:
Flux has also been sort of an oddball, even before he gained the ability to manipulate reality. Originally build to study the Dreamers of Liavara, Flux performed his duties with a chipper attitude. Every day, before it powered down to recharge its batteries, it would ask the Dreamers multiple questions so that they could answer it in its dreams after it had powered down.

One day, it had a dream of a city that had eaten its world. Shadowy beings lived their lives upon this metropolis until a great tremor shook the world. Racing to the spot where the tremors had originated, Flux found itself at the edge of a massive crater. When it turned to look back from where it came, Flux saw a city abandoned save for other automatons that continued to work in a city now reclaimed by nature.

It wasn't until a few months later, when news of the newly discovered Ikirit reached Liavara, that it knew that the Dreamers were asking him to solve the mystery of Ikirit. Why they wanted to know this information didn't matter, its Dream Pals had finally asked IT a question!

Still kickin’ some ideas around.

My original idea has evolved into a Hylki human who grew up in the industrial ruins of Akiton, and his expertise in urban survival made him a perfect fit.

My newer idea is a bit more...out there. His name is El Diablo Estrello, and he’s essentially a space luchador. He’d be a soldier with the aesthetic warrior alt class feature, and he’s on Ikrit to find ancient fighting techniques.

@Archpaladin, maybe we can do a common idea for the background and develop the race further?

I like this idea! A lot!

I'm going to have to work more on this when I actually have a day off or two, but I think a rough cut of my character is that they're a Ferran Operative with the Starfinder Data Jockey archetype who initially left Ratheren out of frustration at Ferran society's relative slowness to seek out a new home and joined the Starfinder Society to do it themselves. Since The Faceless GM has stated the Starfinder Society is contributing to the creation of this colony, the character sees it as a you-scratch-my-back-I-scratch-yours situation, contributing to the Starfinders' explorations of the planet and the foundation of a Lodge, while helping the colony develop as a potential home for more Ferrans.

Maybe our characters could even be related! :D

Christon Rynx is ready to go!

Well, he still has some money to expend, but I guess that's not really important. I wasn't sure what is really important to have in a SF game apart from your weapon and armor, so I thought Christon could always get whatever just before start (if he's selected).

Question, Faceless GM: as I'm building an operative, I'm curious about the Explorer specialization's Into the Unknown ability that they get at 11th level. It grants a +2 bonus to Initiative checks when the character is outside the Pact Worlds and their home system (Ratheren in the case of Ferrans), and if the game is set in a system besides the Pact Worlds, then the Pact Worlds should be replaced with this other system.

Would that mean that, since most of the campaign centers on Ikirit, that is considered "the home system," meaning the +2 to initiative would not apply while on Ikirit?

Calvin Spiff is an open minded merchant, bored with his current contract, notices the Colonists Wanted ad. During his downtime work hours, he crunches some numbers and researches merchant opportunities on Ikirit. If Calvin sells his investments, buys out his Corporate contract for an early release (he did the analysis between proposing a that he open a branch location vs going independent), settles a couple bar tabs, moves his parents into his fully-paid Absalom condo to avoid retirement home fees, he'll have $4k to invest.

His contact on the "Star Pegasus" can get him a job as Quartermaster for passage to Ikirit. This will allow him to access a some Cargo hold space for personal use. What trade goods could be transported that the colonists need? Food? Are the Colonists able to salvage food from the city world's stores? Alcohol? Same as food, or would a distillery on planet be worthwhile? Calvin wants to buy trade goods that those on Ikirit would appreciate. Or a method to generate wealth, such as software or robots.

Ikrit, once established, would it be on an interstellar trade route? If so, Calvin muses that warehouses and hospitality resorts would be appropriate investments.

Aw Hell. Back to college. Calvin finds that there are a couple classes that Fellis University teaches regarding Ikirit. At least his employer will provide tuition reimbursement for the classes. He is hoping the class will provide him with what is exported from Ikirit.

Calvin researches the regulations on claiming area on the planet. How to establishing Claims - he hopes it is better than four GPS spikes thrust into the ground. How does Ikirit handle Claim Jumpers. Any plots for sale that he could buy for under $4k?

Calvin Spiff predicts that the Returner Space Station is in Geosynchronous Orbit over the Queen's Field. Without a stable satellite matrix around the planet, the Returner in Orbit above the Queen's Field provides efficient transfer of goods, communication to that area of the planet, weather tracking, and defense.

An exceptional strategist, especially during downtime from freighters, could have the Returner orbiting at different trajectories for orbital scans along the planet surface and early defense detection from Raiders coming in opposite the Queensfield. But if such an attack, the space station should be closer to Queensfield for mutual defense. The Returner Station could be a liability rather than strength for the Colony. Calvin sees if any Returner levels or sections are available to claim.

Calvin evaluates the colony. Most logical money making infrastructure has been taken: Hunters' Port, Queensfield, and Returner Station. Secondary money making infrastructure are open: Orbital satellites, interstellar warehousing/recreational, booze shops/restaurants, activating manufacturing facilities, a space station over Hunters' Port, system exploitation.

Calvin marvels over the planet, imagining it during it's Prime. A World City. It would have had to import trade to survive because it didn't have the raw resources to supply a populace that covered the planet. Fellis University scans doesn't show the system. There should be mining colonies on other planets, an asteroid belt nearby, other vassal systems that traded with Ikirit.

Xevras, if you would like, you are welcome to have our backstories intersect, given that we are both from the same planet and have a shared desire for traveling off-world.

Sounds like fun! How do you want to coordinate this intersection of our backstories?

I'm thinking Xevras's father is in the Skyfire Legion, and while Xevras didn't choose to go that path, he did pick up his martial skills from his father.

I would say that it applies on parts of Ikirit that are unexplored, such as delving into ruins, but not within the colony itself, which is well known to everyone there and quickly becomes familiar to visitors since it's not particularly large yet.

Here is Art Burd's character. They are a Shirren Mechanic making use of the new alternate class features from the Character Operations Manual, specifically the Experimental Armor Prototype.

Background:
Driskinet was born on Verces, within the Shirren settlements on that planet. Their parents were a three-way marriage between a shopkeeper, a cybernetics researcher, and a mechanic. They spent their early life in the settlements, learning much from their parents while in their larval form, before their family moved to the Ring of Nations several years after they were born. There, they met member of numerous other species, which sparked their interest in other species. The next several years they spent continuing to learn under their parents, while also spending time engaging with other races in an attempt to be able to better converse with them.

Eventually, Driskinet decided that they wanted to get a more formal education than the one that they had been receiving from their parents. As such, they saved up credits for several years, before traveling to Castrovel and enrolling in Qabarat University. Their studies were initially broadly focused, with classes ranging from the basics of medicine, the physics of drift travel, and engineering and design classes. However, they eventually narrowed down their focus to archeology, specifically that resolving around races from the extremely far past.

During this time, they also spent a fairly sizeable time outside of school working on constructing their own personal suit of armor. Having the skills to construct their own, they had decided that they would prefer to wear a suit of armor that they had designed and constructed themself, rather than a mass produced one. As such, they spent a long time working on their armor, making sure that it fit them perfectly and left plenty of room for improvement.

As they were nearing their graduation from the University, Driskinet heard about the recent discovery and colonization of Ikirit, they realized that this could be an amazing opportunity for them to make use of their new education. As such, the spent some time researching the colonization attempt, planning out how much it would cost to travel there after they got done with school. As part of their preparations, they spent a sizeable number of credits acquiring extra items, including a dart throwing rifle and sword for self defense. Additionally, during this time of getting equipment, they made a snap decision to acquire a companion to go with them to the new planet. As such, they spent some time looking into shops near to the university, before going out and purchasing an Empathnid. They quickly bonded with the tiny arachnoid creature, naming her Ix'et. During the journey to the planet, he quickly rigged up a carrier unit for her on his armor, making sure that she would be well protected from dangers.

I am guessing Rhyss left Triaxus about 40-45 years ago (as the planet was entering its generational winter), so there is a better chance he knew your father—perhaps as an on-call medic or orderly supporting the Legion...

Still a bit torn between the survivalist and the space luchador. Going off of the rule of cool, this shouldn’t even be a question. Ah, what to do.

The answer is obvious: make a survival focused luchador.

You're welcome.

I seem to have lost the notepad where I had the crunch done, but the good doctor I was making was a melee-based Biohacker, with the medic archetype, aiming to be the (or one of) the doctors of the colony.

Anyway, to summarise my setting ideas based on what I gathered on the Ferrans from their origin book.

- The Ferrans have been surviving on their moon for several generation after their homeworld was swallowed/destroyed by a black hole.

- Part of the reason why they're dying out is that the planet was pushed into the black hole by a doomsday cult led by their leader, thinking that the Maw is their salvation.

- There's signals coming in from after the event horizon, which is part of the reason why a lot of them are unwilling to leave the moon colony.

I can imagine there being a lot of anti-religious sentiment in them (judging as how doomsday cults are and all), and a lot of determination and drive to continue living on their moon. I could also see them being a lot more democratic than most societies as a reaction towards the fact that it was an authoritarian ruler's crazy plan to launch their planet into the black hole.

Dr. Tjartka Kjestis:

The council room was dark and quiet, only the incessant, permanent hum of the generators in the bellows of Ratheren droning in Tia's mind. It's strange, how you notice it every time you go for an EVA. As the Humans say. Third time is the charm. The stocky, muscle-bound Ferran, dressed in a doctor's labcoat walked forwards into the circular hall. Her dark eyes stared through the viewing port at the end of the hall, the colossal, hungry black hole reminding every Ferran what they lost, and what they strive for. The Maw.

~The Consensus welcomes you in the Hall of Dialogue, Dr. Kjestis.~, a monotone voice erupted from the speaker in the center of the hall. The seven cloaked and masked figures, the Elders of the Consensus, were never to reveal themselves in a middle of a Discussion. To avoid demagoguery and oratory, even their voices were pre-processed by machines. Drastic, Tjartka always thought, but every Ferran grows up with tales and videos of The Incident. "I thank the Consensus for granting me this audience.", she began saying, clearing her throat. Pulling up a datapad from her labcoat, the Ferran raised a hand, connecting to the holodisplay.

"My purpose here is already known, as are my views. This time, as promised, I have brought evidence, peer-reviewed by our doctors, and the Xenobiology Department of Qabarat University on Castrovel." She pursed her lips. Aliens were little trusted by Ferrans still, even moreso with their increasing suggestions to abandon the Maw and Ferrantus Prime. But one of the prime learning places in the universe had some pull here, still.

The figures in the chamber above shuffled slightly, unheard voices speaking to each other, before once again turning towards the microphones in unison. ~The Consensus will accept the accuracy of your findings.~, the words spoke out, and Tia felt a glistening drop of sweat dry on her forehead. "Thank you, Consensus. Now.", she flicked her hand up, changing the slide. "As I have said before. Remaining moon-bound is detrimental to the long-term survival of the species.", she claimed, pointing towards the wall. "Of only 11% natural Ferrantus allergens, only 3% are safely introduced via injections. Of those 3%, less than half are economically viable. In five hundred years, we won't be able to take a step on any planet without EVA suits." Taking a step forwards, she continued. "In the past, we've used genetic modifications, but my personal projections show that in less than three generations, it'll be unfeasible on a mass scale. We have the technology to survive, perhaps to even thrive here, but... that'll be an irreversible, monumental physiological, societal and mental change. We're seeing the threshold of no return to Ferrantus, even if it somehow magically came back!", she started shouting, only for a loud siren to flare. ~Demagoguery and appeal to emotion. Please limit yourself to factual explanation, Dr. Kjestis.~, the monotone voice announced.

"I apologise. To continue. Cross-sectional data from the Starfinder Society indicates that psychological stress and accident rate is concurrent, even higher than those of other atheistic and adeific societies." The slider on the holowall clicked once more, the rumbling in the seats and robed figures once again picking up in a quiet dispute.

I think they're all a bunch of bastards. But sometimes, you need to rely on a bunch of bastards. Just don't let them dictate your life and the lives of your people., Tia's mind danced on the topic of gods. The other races manage more or less with them, and as much as I hate it, you can't deny their existence and their influence.

~The Consensus accepts this evidence.~, the monotone speaker announced in what felt like an era. ~In light of your evidence, The Consensus has decided to grant your department the funding requested, and you your leave for off-world research.~ A small pause later. ~Based on the findings, the Consensus will re-adjourn regarding step two. You have sixty seconds for final words and emotional response.~

Tia swallowed. "I thank you for your decision. I believe that it is the correct one on both a Ferran and an intergalactic level." Gazing at the Maw, she bit her lip, raising a stocky fist. "We'll not forget them, and we'll not abandon them. But they would want us to leave life as Ferrans."
