Partner Bond (Ex) A dragonkin can form a permanent bond with one willing non-dragonkin creature. Once this bond is made, a dragonkin cannot form another partner bond unless its current partner dies. A dragonkin and its partner can communicate with each other as if they both had telepathy with a range of 100 feet. In combat, when a dragonkin is within 30 feet of its partner, both creatures roll initiative checks separately and treat the higher result as the result for both of them.
History
Xevras hatched on Triaxus, to parents who were both veterans of the Skyfire Legion. They’d grown close while both convalescing after their bonded partners died in an op gone wrong in the vast, and decided to retire together to a quiet village far from major cities in the Skyfire Mandate. They raised Xevras and his two younger sisters in a very traditional dragonkin manner, with an emphasis on survival skills and martial training.
Xevras didn’t particularly care for either of those things, however. From a young age he showed a fascination with computers and magic, excelling in academic pursuits… though his parents’ insistence on physical training also bore fruit, at least in terms of his strength. His dexterity--and perhaps more importantly for his parents’ wishes, his aim--proved to be… much less impressive.
While his parents never directly denied his academic pursuits, it wasn’t lost on Xevras how often ‘family outings’ would ‘just happen’ to be scheduled around important tests and such. He never confronted them directly about this, he did learn to hide some of his activities, to the point that the fact he got and accepted a scholarship to a major technomancy program in a university in the Drakelands ended up being a surprise to them the day before he moved out.
Xevras thrived outside his parents’ control, doing well in his classes and even participating in some sports while earning his degree. All too soon his time at school came to an end, and he had to confront the fact that his scholarship had not been a full ride and he now had accrued significant debt. ‘Fortunately’, a recruiter for EJ Corp was hiring for some computer work for a terraforming job out in the vast, and Xevras more than met the requirements for the position.
While he’d been ready to work hard to pay off his debts, Xevras was not prepared for just how miserable an experience working on Entha would be. Not only was it constantly wet, in spite of being on a planet the lack of dry land meant that he had to spend far too much time crammed into spaces not built for a 13’-tall dragonkin. On top of that, his supervisors tended to take one look at him and assign him to hauling or moving machinery instead of the computer work he really wanted to do. The cut corners, dangerous conditions, and generally sleazy policies of EJ Corp were just insult to injury.
Xevras recently managed to get off Entha by transferring to cargo hauling. Sure, ships tend to be just as cramped as the terraforming facilities were, but at least now he hopes to have a chance to get out of the ship and stretch his back out properly every now and again. And who knows? Now that he’s not stuck in the middle of nowhere, maybe he’ll find some better prospects.
Appearance & Personality
Xevras is a large, heavily-built dragonkin, with red scales save for his underside, which has yellow-gold scales. He stands roughly 13’ tall, and he prefers loose, simple clothing with lots of pockets when he’s not in armor.
Xevras seems stoic and threatening at first glance, but talking with him for any amount of time quickly reveals an eagerness and enthusiasm that hasn’t been fully quashed by his unpleasant circumstances, especially on the topics of magic and technology. He has an unfortunate level of clumsiness for such a large person, and he tends to apologize often for small mistakes.
