yeah i have to agree with elek that Bataar has to do something to convince the group that he's not crazy.

i cant intercede on this...at least not directly.

Agreed. As it stands this is going to be very tricky to resolve without handwaving IC issues away in the interest of getting the party/players back in a group.

Any chance he really was a Darkfriend? If so, Cor'ellis might have overheard something corroborative.

Bataar could try claiming a power like Hurin's sniffing, i.e. sensing the taint of violence on someone to back up his claim. But the suddenness of the attack might require the truth. If "Salty" were at least middle-aged, there's the option of arguing that male channelers don't live to have grey in their hair unless they have the DO's protection from the taint.

Happy to help resolve things if it could work. She would likely use her eavesdropping and sensing shadowspawn anywhere she stays for long and I established her as having been in Fal Dara for weeks.

I like this idea best, but then Bataar must come clean about being a male channeler, and that opens a different can of worms...

Elek would be concerned that Bataar might go crazy eventually, but I assume Aes Sedia would concern him more than Elek, especially the reds we are following.

Yeah, I'm planning too come clean, Bataar is concerned he'll go crazy too. Also there's always a chance that Tenora will try to arrest him on the spot, Red or no.

hopefully she will see that getting in and out of the blight is more important. Anyway, someone who can sense a male channeler should be worth taking along :)

Elek rolled a 14 for history on the tapestry, did it give him any information?

Also, does anyone think the tapestry has anything to do with the barkeeps shared nightmare?

All I really took from it was that Jeani Nair and her "hook nosed" companion sound a good deal like other incarnations of Birgitte and Gaidal Cain.

I'm guessing Bataar has been experiencing some problems since he fled here. The shared dream thing smacks of forsaken being nearby, though... >_<

Quick FYI, no save for Demoralize

Demoralize: You can use this skill to cause an opponent to become shaken for a number of rounds. The DC of this check is equal to 10 + the target’s Hit Dice + the target’s Wisdom modifier. If you are successful, the target is shaken for 1 round. This duration increases by 1 round for every 5 by which you beat the DC. You can only threaten an opponent in this way if they are within 30 feet and can clearly see and hear you. Using demoralize on the same creature only extends the duration; it does not create a stronger fear condition.

Oh boy, this should be fun. I take it Tenora is assuming Cor'ellis channeled earlier. I don't think using weavesight actually involves channeling, nor should she realize that I successfully learned her weave. XD

"I will always strive to write better" , 25 years gaming, 20 yrs DM

using weavesight doesnt involve channeling.

i think tenora is making the assumption that youre the closest, and we really didnt identify the intensity of the power for channeling.

Hello team,
The Organized Play Online Venture Officers have been made aware that Qstor had a Real Life situation come up and will be out for around a week. While notifying the relevant Society games, I thought it worth dropping a note to their other games as well.

Have fun gaming. Hopefully, Qstor will be back shortly.

No worries Cor'ellis. we get it.

ill take over as tenora for the time being, and still supplement bataar.

"I will always strive to write better" , 25 years gaming, 20 yrs DM

For Tenora, Cor'ellis, and Bataar:

I was looking over the channelers character sheets, and noticed that the number of weaves known was rather limited. i looked it over and saw that the women only knew 9 weaves total, and bataar knew 7. I reviewed the wotrpg book and saw that the starting number of weaves is 8+ for initaites, and 7+ for wilders. but beyond that, there isnt really a means for gaining weaves beyond first level unless through observation.

to compensate for this, ill say that for every channeler level gained, channelers earn an extra 3 weaves known for character creation. So a 5th level initiate would have 8+(3x4)=20 weaves known.

So I thought if I made a list out of game, we may be able to come up with some ideas as players then figure out how to solve them in game as characters. Rizz has presented us with a puzzle that I would like to solve. I hope this doesn't come off as 'metagaming' but If this offends anyones sensibilities, let me know and I will not post anymore and we should just move on.

The difficult part of this is that two of our players who's characters use 'the one power' are not here. And one of them, Bataar has been in the villiage the longest, experiencing the event, so we have no knowledge of something that may be a piece of the puzzle that he could illuminate.

I only saw one arcane knowledge check: fogive me Rizz since Tenora isn't with us presently, I looked at it: Tenora's knowledge check: you try to come up with something...but your mind goes blank. Something something One Power? Legend? Myth? Wha...? is your thought process.

Cor'ellis you have knowledg (age of legends) want to give it a try?

So what we know
Thorn fourth day of travel, undefended this close to the blight, odd

The Bulwark, this two story structure, makes you think of the Stone of Tear.

The tapestry 'the last stand' a small house at the head of a bridge

Bataar's first reaction "This blokes wife is far more attractive then him, quite a physical mix match. He remembered her fondly for a moment, before he had to give into the sickening conclusion he had been afraid of.
I was right, something, wrong, is happening in this town, some sort of shared dreaming experience. Oh light, how many husbands are going to try to kill me in the street now? How many will run in fear?

Bataar had been there five days.

Rizz said for a knowledge check...yeah, you could make a Knowledge arcana check. Make a roll, and ill post what you figure out, customized to each roller. so we know there is something, but it may be interpreted diffrently

outside a scene of limited Chaos. does this infer that it only effects people who had been in a youthful relationship?

Bataar: He perks up seeing his ethereal encounter partner, Oh light, now they're fighting in the real world.: this was not the inn keepers wife, so he was having dreams about more than one person. This doesn't seem to fit the pattern of dreaming about youthful relationship/lust

Time frame: two different quotes: Started a couple of weeks ago. and .A little over a week now. 9 days i think would be my best guess. first couple days were just dreams, interactions with others were slight. But after that, the sex was the first to happen...then, after that, the fighting in the dreams occurred. so, by day 6, the dreams fluctuated between sex and fights.

We are about midway through book 4.

The people having sex were at it longer than the people fighting, but still seemed to be under the influence of the spell The woman moans loudly and opens her eyes, a distant gaze upon them. She glances at the door and suddenly goes rigid. Harlon!!! Youre!Im!What! she says, shifting position to get away from the man who stands behind her.

General observations:

The emotions/event hit everyone at the same time. all over town,

Two different people make reference to when they were a kid.

Except for bataar, the 'situations' seem to be happening between people who have known each other a long time.

This seems to have been going on before the Aes Sedai would have passed through town. Though we have not enquired after them.

Questions that come to mind
Why no guards?

What relationship does the inn have to the stone of Tear?

Is the story in the tapestry from the 'days of legend' related to this place or event?

Was there something going on in the fourth book we need to consider?

Why did Baatar have the dreams? Was he included as a plot hook, or because he can channel?

Book four, description from WOT fandom

Wot Fandom wrote:
Rand is surprised, however, when his previous traveling companion, Selene, reveals herself to be Lanfear, one of the Forsaken, and tells Rand to join her. Overwhelmed with jealousy against Ilyena (going so far as to call her a "pale-haired milksop", misinterpreted by Rand as jealousy against Elayne), she desperately pleads with him to join the forces of the Shadow, even stating her willingness to defy the Dark One if only he would be with her. As Rand furiously rejects her, the Stone of Tear is suddenly stormed by Trollocs and Fades, which are sent by the other Forsaken Sammael (though Lanfear did not have anything to do with this). Another Forsaken, Semirhage, also sent Shadowspawn to oppose Sammael's forces into the Stone of Tear. Finally, Rand uses Callandor to send a lightning storm to kill all of the Trollocs and Fades, leaving some believing Rand has gone mad.

We have a connection in book four at the stone of Tear and jealousy between those who had been in a relationship in a previous life. So how do we tie it to our characters here?

there is no connection between what's happening here and what's going on in Tear. To be honest, i forgot that the exchange occurred, so it's just happenstance that this mystery occurs here and now.

Sad, so Sad... yeah, I was just looking for possible threads to pull on.

So we have the possibility of Cor'ellis rolling a knowledge (age of legends) to help.

Is there any other 'knowledge' check that may help?

Dont believe him! He's the gm they say sneaky things all the time!

*lawls* actually its a cool coincidence. I dont mind the metagaming if its even that here, like a few others its not that I personally am not intruigued its that literally Marik isnt sure what he can do if anything to help the folk. He has enough on his plate too.

In the spirit of metagaming knowledge who wants a fun secret?

fun secret:
Rizzenmagnus asked me if i had any ideas on how to get the party together and I just sort of spitballed then rolled with it. Marik does have a great aunt aes sedai, his family is involved with the tower....
But . . .
He stole the letter from his great Aunt's desk after hearing about the possible treasures up north, and well Is not doing this officially in any sort of matter. He is a good dude who wants to help the borderlanders, the tower and get rich and famous for doing so, just uh... his family thinks he is the disapointing son. This will so them wont it.

Player thoughts: There's definitely something in place that protects Thorn from falling to the Shadow. But it seems like it also has some long-term nasty side effects. While we might find some way to reverse it and relieve the people here from the weird dreams and going mad, it stands to reason that we may also remove whatever protects this place.

Seems like it's a sort of trade-off, whether through spell, or compact or the effect of a ter'angreal. We might have to ask ourselves if we even have the right to interfere?
