I would have went with the "this guy just threatened an Aes Sedai defense myself. They sort of are pro the white tower here in the borderlands. >.>
Feel free to toss me about with the power if you are offended Marik posted himself up in front of you Miss Tenora Sedai.

hmmmm...suddenly i feel like im reading dragons of autumn twilight...
I've not read it, but reading the abridged version I'm getting a little nervous.
my first instinct is to tell Bataar to flee and meet us north of town in a few days.
Renlo Tacksa |
I haven't read that book in a long time. Maybe I should dig it out again.
Renlo isn't gonna stop you - he's just very confused about everything.
Renlo Tacksa |
Oh, boy. So, from Marlane's perspective, we all just participated in the murder? Even though several of us didn't draw weapons?
Cor'ellis |
"Ho the party!"
Hi everyone! It took some time, but I cobbled together a character with the GM's help and at his direction, jumped right in.
This is my first time playing in the setting, but I'm a long-time fan of WoT. I went on a reading strike after Winter's Heart and raged when RJ died before completing the series. Heard that Amazon Prime is making a WoT series and decided it was time to read it all, finally. Currently stalled out in Knife of Dreams.
Been looking forward to playing with you all! Hope I can contribute to the fun. ^_^
Renlo Tacksa |
Welcome! Glad to have you.
Once you get through Knife of Dreams, everything picks up a bit more. It's Winter's Heart, Crossroads of Twilight, and Knife of Dreams are definitely the slowest books in the series. Winter's Heart is especially annoying - one can only stand so much of Perrin whining.
Renlo Tacksa |
We do, but it seems like every scene with him in Winter's Heart involves more whining.
Mind you, no one else is doing anything interesting, and we aren't checking on Mat for the entire book, but still.
RIZZENMAGNUS |
i got them when they were released, so i read them with gusto, appreciating the nuances.
of course, a few years later on my...8th or 9th reread getting ready for the later books that came out, i was like "ohh dear god!" and "we get it perrin, you love falie."
im currently debating if i should reread the series right now, knowing it'll take me about...16 months, to read them all, and then watch the show...
or if i should just sit and wait. it's been 5 years since i last read EotW, so its been a while and i dont remember too many details...just enough though, and then watch the show, enjoy it, and then read the novels again.
I recognize that they, the show writers and what not, have to do some serious cutting to make the book into a show, and that the vision/imagination of said show creators will be in conflict to what i have envisioned these last 25 years...but...
Eragon.
Great book! Great series actually, written by a teenager, but the movie...ohhhh god it was soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo fricken bad!!!!!!
i made the mistake of rereading the book prior to watching the movie, and it just destroyed it for me.
But hey, Jeremy Irons did a good job in that movie, and the DnD movie.

On this re-read, I didn't find it quite as bad, but Winter's Heart really was excruciating when I read it hardcover, the week it came out. I had waited for it anxiously, all out of sorts because Faile had been taken at the end of Path of Daggers and Perrin didn't even know it yet!
I expected her kidnapping to be resolved in the course of that book, but instead we read along as Perrin discovers she's been taken by the Shaido and now they (suddenly, it seemed) have such massive numbers that he doesn't have a prayer of winning a direct assault. I don't blame him for being messed up about that... but I do blame RJ for the poor set up of a Shaido Aiel Nation when it really seemed their numbers should have been dramatically reduced by Sammael's mischief with his "boxes"... even after reassembling. I suppose the Mera'din are supposed to make up for lost numbers, but still. =/
i made the mistake of rereading the book prior to watching the movie, and it just destroyed it for me.
I also find it can help you enjoy a movie/series if your remembrance of the book is more vague. With a fresh re-read, you will notice absolutely everything they do differently!
I almost don't want to finish Knife of Dreams. I know Sanderson is said to have done well with the story, but I can't help feeling like this is RJ's story and it will be diminished in someone else's hands. Almost like it's fan-fiction.... *gasp*
Renlo Tacksa |
It's not all Sanderson - Robert Jordan actually wrote some of the sections before he died (including the entire Last Battle), and Sanderson was working entirely off of what he'd already written and notes left by RJ.
Honestly, the last three read more like Sanderson is channeling RJ than Sanderson is writing for himself.
Now, I have hopes for the show. Nothing they've teased on Twitter has been upsetting. I also know that when they put together the writers' room, they tried to get people who had read the books and were fans of the series, and that the showrunner, Rafe Judkins, is a fan himself.
Also, Amazon did well with the Good Omens adaptation, so it's not like it's MTV adapting the Shannara Chronicles.
Renlo Tacksa |
I skipped out after 4 episodes. As a fan of the books, it was just...so bad. The Allanon character was good, but they brought teen drama into the whole thing and it was just...so hard to watch.

GM, a question. There's no way the Trolloc attack on the keep where the Horn was stolen could have been kept quiet. Was the presence of the Horn kept secret? Ingtar seemed to know about its existence before he was tasked with leading the soldiers in pursuit of it. Is there a chance knowledge of the Horn could have passed its way to other soldiers, namely Korin and myself?
RIZZENMAGNUS |
uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhhhhh....neutral statement?
lol
making me think here...sheesh...ok. Damn thats a good question...Im going to say that it wasnt common knowledge that the horn was in Fal Dara. It was revealed as the troop was leaving Fal Dara that they were in pursuit of the Horn. So, Id say it'd be a high Knowledge local check, DC 25, to find out the true story of it being there.
that being said, for you and korin, You guys have heard the stories that the horn was there, and Id say that you both have a strong inclination to believe that the horn was in Fal Dara, but you heard it from a trusted friend who heard it from a trusted friend and so on...something like 4 degrees of separation.

so, serious question for everyone: How are you all doing in light of this pandemic we have the pleasure of living in? Are you doing ok? have any issues that you might need some help with? Or are you managing?
i know, it's a little buzzkill to read this question on the forum here, but i felt i should ask just to ensure that my players are doing well.
Elek Kardforgató |
Kind of you to ask, right now I stay home and take care of my 82 year old mother that has dementia. Fortunately, she doesn't go out much, Unfortunately, I don't go out much either :) So staying in and following good hygiene. Live in small town Ohio, so no place to go anyway. I do wish that folks would stop "stocking up" on the toilet paper, my mom goes through it something fierce...
Renlo Tacksa |
I literally just wanted to buy one pack of toilet paper over the weekend, cause we only had 2 rolls left. One. Single. Pack. I checked Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Nothing.
Fortunately, my mother-in-law bought a giant pack at Costco before the panic set in, so she brought us some of hers.
I will be doing a rotating work from home schedule going forward, but am otherwise doing well.
Bataar Rogozin |
I work in an Ikea, and I'd like to not have to work, I don't think it's particularly lazy, as I'm closely exposed to easily several hundred to a thousand people a day. And people often travel from out of state to get to the store. I don't know, I just feel extra at risk, know what I mean?

Loved Good Omens so much! Never read the books but absolutely adored the show.
Thanks everyone for welcomes!
My family is staying home for our Spring Break, anxiously awaiting the release of Animal Crossing: New Horizons for the Switch. I had to go to the doctor today and took my honey to the ER for sudden massive toothache yesterday. So I've been out more than I would like, but still doing well thus far.
Luckily, I bought TP just before the run on it. Some regular groceries are getting hard to find too now. Eggs! I went to two stores today and no eggs anywhere. >_<
Renlo Tacksa |
I had to buy the carton of a dozen and a half eggs at my grocery store instead of a dozen. I didn't think eggs would be that big a deal.
RIZZENMAGNUS |
it's just panic buying. as you can tell with the toilet paper fiasco. Because toilet paper prevents to covid19 from affecting you and other nonsense.
for me, my kids are out of school now til Apr 6th, and they are scheduled to go on spring break april 9th thru the 13.

Hey, rereading through the last several days, It feels like Elek's posts are incongruous. I was bored last Sat. and got in a rush addressing all of Tenora's questions, which really were for Cor'ellis. Causing Tenora to question Elek.
Rereading the last post, it doesn't address Tenora's concerns. He just acted like his feelings were hurt. Sorry about that Tenora, you deserved a better explanation for the way he butted in on Sat. post.
I'm still trying to get a solid grip on Elek's personality, I promise he is not Schizophrenic. However the role-playing does help me get a better feel for his character. So keep it up, don't let him get away with anything stupid :)
Cor'ellis |
ive been told pretty woman make a man powerfully stupid :P
XD
For what it's worth, it didn't seem incongruous to me. Elek took Lady Cor'ellis at face value and then was put off balance when not everyone else did the same. It's probably about how something like that would go IRL, anyway.Worked out well for me, anyway. ^_~
RIZZENMAGNUS |
actually, Elek's actions were more in line with, from my POV, a perspective newcomer to the group should be treated as. Yes, we recognize out of character that someone new has been added to the group, so we want to make it easier for our characters to better accept this new person. But I think Elek did right, questioning who/what/why the new character, and not giving into the nomnitive trope.

Tenora was suspicious given all the things that have been happening.
Renlo Tacksa |
Yes, Renlo would absolutely take point. He trusts his experience and his eyes in the situation.

Here's hoping the party doesn't kill or exile me as Bataar is a bit of a cheeky bastard.
With his response in game, those odds have really increased.
I would recommend he try a different tack. I think telling the party he is a wilder and that he could tell "Salty" was one as well is the best route.
He should explain that he can sense when an Aes Sedai is channeling and that he can sense male channelers, that we can use him as a 'bloodhound' of sorts.
