RIZZENMAGNUS |
Welcome everyone to my WOT adventure...i hope you enjoy this as much as I do. :)
Note: we are starting the adventure in the middle of book 4, The Shadow Rising. The approximate point in time is when Siuan is deposed from her position as Amyrlin.
I figure, given the slow speed that news travels in this world, it would take about a month to 6 weeks for official news of the Dragon Reborn being in Tear would get to Fal Dara.

You sit within a tavern, 100 yards from the Malkier gates of the north wall, drinking your ale, exchanging small talk, enjoying your down time. You pockets are full of coin, well, they were before you settled down for the evening, knowing that youll be a bit lighter of coin, but heavier with enjoyment.
Nice opening, So Elek would recognize his cousin, would he know anyone else here? (other than any NPC he is with from his employment that I make up)
I guess I'm wondering if we are starting as a group or if we will meet due to events.
Just asking so I know which way to go with the intro.
Renlo Tacksa |
It is pretty nice. I have posted my intro post - just Renlo continuing to navel gaze as he tries to determine if this man from Falme is the true Dragon Reborn, or if he should go hunt Trollocs in the Blight, as is his preference.
Renlo Tacksa |
Thanks. I wrote Renlo to basically be borderline Dragonsworn - he's not sure about it yet, but given the opportunity to fight Trollocs in the Last Battle, he'd be pretty quick to sign up.
Course, he doesn't want to fight anyone else, so he's a bit off-put by what's happening in Arad Doman-Almoth Plain-Tarabon.

By the way, if anyone's interested, I found my PDF of WotC's Wheel of Time Web Enhancement. It doesn't provide much that might be relevant to us at this time, but it has a couple of weaves that might be interesting at some point.
I also found my PDF copy of the Age of Illusions netbook, but I don't think I'll share that right now unless Rizzen wants to allow us to use material from it.

Why dont you share both, as i vaguely recall the WotC material, and recognize the age of illusions netbook, but dont have a copy
Renlo Tacksa |
Sure thing.
Here is the WotC Web Enhancement.
Here is the Age of Illusions netbook.
I had these as of 2009, but they were buried in my email until I remembered them yesterday.

@RIZZENMAGNUS how did you want to handle levels of the Aes Sedai PrC just "hand waive" the test?
As an aside, do any area's use rapiers? The Wiki for sword just mentions "swords" My Googlefu might have failed me.
I've read the books and have the Audible books for all the books. I'm listening to them again on my commute. I'm on Book 2 now. I imagine that
Shienaran swords, they're talking about in Book 2 now are like "bastard" swords since they're worn on the back and I think can be used 1 or 2 handed. But I don't remember lighter blades in the books.
I think the heron blades might be more 16th-18th century style? Like a broadsword. Classification_of_swords (Wikipedia)
But I don't remember things like a rapier? A long thin blade?
Elek Kardforgató |
I don't remember if there were any rapiers but I thought you might enjoy an image of the sword that RJ approved being made that represented the Heron blade
edit: I didn't find any woman using swords, but several trained with knives. Since there are rapiers in the list of equipment, and women from the north did train to use knives and hand to hand combat, no reason in my mind you couldn't have trained in the sword. May be a little unusual to cary one, and the Aes Sedai might frown upon it, but who cares.
Renlo Tacksa |
I think the closest you could find would be Ebou Dar - I feel like Beslan was described as carrying a long, slender straight blade in his initial introduction. They may also be commonplace among the Sea Folk.
Since a rapier is very much thought of as a "dueling" weapon, places where duels are common would be the most likely place to encounter such a weapon. I don't think there's anywhere in the Borderlands that would use them.

well, the books say that an aes sedai has to know the 100 weaves...but no. i dont think we'll be needing to do that. I think we'll put a pin in this for now.

well, if i remember correctly, ebou darians use dueling daggers, not swords for their duels.
i dont see why you couldnt use a rapier, its a sword, and really the only swords that were described in minuet detail were the heron marked blades, and those were fashioned after a cross between katana and mideval longsword. everything else was just "deadly sword #3" and what not.

It wasn't for my PC :) I was just curious, since one the players had it listed in his equip.

Hello everyone just you average everyday treasure hunting scoundr... gambler checking in :)
I do need to finish up my backstory, but will get it knocked out pretty quickly As a long time avid fan of the series i look forward to this very much. I will be avoiding all lifts thats for sure.
Renlo Tacksa |
Marik, you seem to be missing the +3 bonus for Trained class skills, since we're using the Pathfinder rules for skills.
Also, I don't think you picked a skill for Skill Emphasis?

oops
I assumed if it was in the WoT RPG book, we could use it. I resisted the urge to ask Rizz if Elek could use a Nodachi like Elathras did :)

Good eye, renlo. Have a free reroll usable for any roll.

Hey Rizz, how are we doing sword forms?
edit: Also wanted to ask, Weapons Specialization is listed at fifth level for Armsman. Does this mean that if an armsman has weapons focus that they get specialization for free, or that they can select weapons specialization?
Still curious...

Totally missed your original post.
Ill say they get the feat for free.
As for sword forms...its an oddity. Boiled down, Its kind of like a blend of wizard spells known, and barbarian rage uses per day.
Lets try this. We will scrap that rule limiting the number of forms, and see what happens in combat. If it looks like its too powerful, then we can come back, look at combat actions and determine a better rule

That's very cool, I will try not to abuse.
Are we limiting both uses and forms known? How do we figure out which ones he knows? It looks like we can roll at each level to learn, how many rolls can we make to attempt to learn each form? can we roll all of them at fifth level skill :) just kidding, I assume we will roll for each level
Just let me know how and what to roll.

You automatically learn form levels 1 and 2. Pick 4 at form level 3, 3 at level 4, and two at level 5.

Will this apply to the Woodsman, who get Weapon Specialization at level 6, as well?

There really aren't. That's why I chose one with a helmet.

So a little concerned about the PVP. What was the reasoning?

If i remember correctly...
Disagreement between seanchan noble of the blood who chen (Bataar) was sworn to protect. Chen was a Ogier Gardner blademaster. well, the noble, who was also a sul'dam, wanted to keep her pet damane...the rest of the group didnt like that, so it led to a rather intese discussion. With swords. And the one power.
Bataar Rogozin |
Yeah, no one ended up dead, even though I'm sure in the books they all would've killed each other right out. It was indeed an intense bit of fighting followed by an even more intensive bout of questioning each others ideologies. It ended well and was some of my most favorite writing that I've ever done or participated in on this site :)
And to be fair, we didn't come in swinging, everyone involved had the ok so this is definitely what the character would do discussion. It was my instinct to role play him to the side of the party asap but in the end it just made no sense for the character, so conflict was had.
Ahh. good times.
