So here's the dilly-O on bottlecaps/hero pts/harrow pts.

I won't be using bottlecaps or hero points in this one, but I am folding the bottlecap system into the Harrow Point system.

So to remind you, harrow points have different functions in each book of the AP. In book 1, for example, you can spend a harrow point to reroll a Reflex save, attack roll modified by Dexterity, or a Dexterity-based ability or skill check (you must take the new result, even if it's worse); to gain a +1 dodge bonus to AC for one encounter (you can spend up to 3 harrow points on one encounter in this way); or to increase your speed by 10 feet for one encounter.

Now, in addition to these uses, you can also spend TWO harrow points at once to use them like a bottlecap: you can roll any d20 roll twice and take the higher result. Or, you can retroactively force an enemy to reroll a d20 roll and take the worse result. This method will function across all books, not just book 1 of the AP.

Finally (and this is a house rule, not based on the book) you can spend 1 hero point to stabilize when at negative hit points. It will cancel all bleed and other ongoing damage effects.

Now, since post editing is a thing, I'm going to make it easy and say you can use harrow points retroactively anywhere in this biz, until the post can no longer be edited (so you can't go back 6 hours later and decide to reroll your longbow attack because you got a 15 and you're not quite sure it was a hit).

Each book will have different ways to spend Harrow Points. You can't take them with you; at the beginning of each book, you lose your unspent Harrow Points and gain a new pool of them, so you might as well use 'em!

Also, an additional house rule: you can earn more harrow points for cool s!!*, just like you could earn bottlecaps before! By the book, you only got however many harrow points Zellara's reading gave you, but I'm going to let you earn more through roleplay.

Andakos had a bottlecap and no harrow points, so I'm going to convert that bottlecap into 2 harrow points. I'm also going to roll randomly for how many starting harrow points your other two characters have (1d4-1 each). My GMPC will also have harrow points (mainly because they come from Zellara's harrow readings and it would be weird if she just ignored one character "because reasons") but the GMPC will not be able to gain more harrow points throughout the adventure like your PCs can. Also they'll start with 0 harrow points for book 1, since book 1 is almost over anyway (you're more or less on part 3 now).

WELP! I'm a dummy face and forgot to post about the NEW and IMPROVED (okay mainly just "new") ways you can use harrow points!

Dex-based checks and attacks? F*$~ THAT S+@%!

CONSTITUTION is the new black!

So, you can still spend two harrow points for a re-roll as before, or one harrow point to stabilize. For Book II of Crimson Throne, you can also use them in the following ways:

Constitution Rolls: You can spend a harrow point to reroll a Fortitude saving throw, stabilization check (yeah that's an overlap, oh well), or other Constitution-based check. (I'm also house-ruling that you can use them to re-roll concentration checks; such checks are thematically tied in due to them being based on bodily harm or threat of bodily harm.) You must abide by the new result (although if you have additional harrow points, you can continue to spend them on additional re-rolls).

Damage Reduction: You can spend a harrow point to gain DR 3/-. This damage reduction persists for the duration of the encounter in which the harrow point was spent. You can't spend multiple harrow points to increase this damage reduction. If you have DR/- from another source (such as a magic item or barbarian levels) it stacks.

Fast Hit Point Recovery: You can spend a harrow point after resting for 1 minute to recover from recent ordeals. You regain a number of hit points equal to your character level and remove 1 point of ability damage from an ability score of your choice each time you spend a harrow point in this way (it cannot be used on ability drain). You can spend a harrow point in this way only once after each encounter.
