Andakos Viden was born to upper middle class human parents in Korvosa. He looked like a completely normal human for most of his childhood, but puberty in his early teens brought about many more changes than normal human boys experience. His skin reddened and grew scaly and hard. Horns sprouted from his forehead. A tail grew long and prehensile. It was clear that there was a demonic influence in his bloodline, but he was the first tiefling to be born into the family and no one knew where (and how long ago) the taint was introduced.

His parents had noticed his intelligence at an early age and had the means to support and cultivate it. He had been in the best schools they could afford for most of his childhood, but the inherent bigotry in those schools meant that he could no longer attend once his true nature manifested. His parents' love for him was not lessened by the changes in his appearance, so they did the next best thing they could for him: enlisted him in the tiefling militia at the Acadamae, and made "donations" to certain key professors and administrators to allow him access to the school's libraries and labs during his downtime hours.

Andakos rarely had use for the martial training he received in the militia, though it was valuable. While on duty, he counted down the hours until he could stick his nose in a book or practice alchemy in a lab. Over two decades and with the help of students and teachers that he managed to befriend, he managed to gather quite a font of knowledge and training, though it had rarely been put to practical use.

As Andakos reached the early part of middle age, he began to feel a paternal relationship with some of the students that he was charged with protecting. His parents had always been loving and supportive, and though he had no children of his own, he instinctually longed to pass that kindness along. One child in particular, a preteen aasimar named Lyse, grew to be very important to him. She was a fledgling alchemist like him and they bonded over their shared outsider heritage that made them appear barely human; her skin was golden, her hair white, and she gave off a faint but unmistakeable glow.

Two months ago, Lyse didn't show up for their regular weekly alchemy session in the lab. Andakos wasn't incredibly concerned at first because she was, after all, a teenager, and she would often get caught up in other things and forget to tell him. However, when a week passed with no sign of her, Andakos's worry began to grow. He asked around to all of her teachers and friends, but no one had seen her. He began to expand his search outside the Acadamae walls. With some well placed bribes, he managed to uncover rumors that she had been kidnapped and put into servitude in the Lamm's Lambs.

For the first time in his privileged and mostly sheltered life, Andakos felt his tiefling heritage manifest in a manner other than physical. His rage at Lyse's abduction and forced labor grew so palpable that it almost took on a life of its own. He felt his blood boil and he knew in his heart that he would not rest until Lamm was dead and Lyse was safely returned to the Acadamae.

In 20 years of service to the Acadamae, he rarely took a day off, so his supervisor approved his request for a leave of absence without hesitation. Andakos gathered his gear and set off to find Lyse.
