And I just taught him that Devise a Stratagem only locks you into using that roll for a Strike, not an Attack that isn't a Strike. Like a Spell Attack!
And how did I teach him this, you may ask? Over dinner here in Manila! And tomorrow I'll sit down to join him for a Face-to-face game!
Rhaegal Dragonkin
|
I didnt know that either! I just assumed it applied to any attack roll! Nice!
Herr Doktor Krankenweg

My experience with these kind of encounters is that it's much more effective to charge the big boss and kill it quickly than to face the other creatures :D
Anyway, we have to choose, spreading damage between the boss and the trolls is certainly the worst strategy.
Rhaegal Dragonkin

If the trolls don't have a way to move or do ranged attacks, they certainly can be avoided. However, it does seem like they are be powering something. It's possible that it will be much harder to hurt him (higher AC, saves, regen, etc) if we don't take a few out.

I'm happy to go either way. The trolls seem fairly powerless if we aren't close to them so ignoring them should be safe. And disabling all of them will take a long time just in movement even if we succeed every time. So maybe we should just wrap up Blue and then focus on the spirit.
And on movement, I've never had to move so much as this trio of games. Before these, I was wondering if the wand of tailwind would be worthwhile, but every game so far it has been hugely useful.

We don't think there's any chance of finishing before PaizoCon, do we? Live play starts next weekend, and PBP starts on the Monday 2 weeks from today. I'm not trying to rush it, just confirming that we probably won't for my (and maybe others') planning purposes.

There's almost zero chance of finishing before PaizoCon Live (< 1 week), unless it's with a TPK. PaizoCon PbP (< 2 weeks) is still very unlikely.
I know Herr Doktor had expressed some concern about running into June (~3 weeks) and I'm unwilling to promise that, but agree that it might be a possibility.

Sigh... Soup, what have I ever done to you? :)
| GM Watery Soup |
Feel free to coordinate in Discussion as to whether you want to go for the spirit or more runes.
For reference, the troll was >50% at -68 hp, <50% at -80 hp, and <10% at -130 hp; and Disabling the Blue rune reduced the spirit's fly speed from 40' to 20'.
Isaku Beru

What doesn't kill you makes you Wounded.
LOL! :)
Do I have any HP left?
Isaku Beru

Isaku can heal himself if someone gets him above zero :)

4 weeks to be accurate, I'll start my new project the 9th. But considering it's the final fight I feel it'll be over by then or very close to completion. Which will leave me free to invest all my mental energy into my new project!

Cal is going to hold off posting. If either Crunch or Rhaegal can Step to one of the squares directly on the Spirit's western side, then Cal can move in and use Like Leap to zap himself straight into Flanking. Granted, Cal will probably take a Reactive Strike on the move in, but hopefully it'll work out.
Crunch, Champion of Torag

I was going to say that it was burning its reactions on the void blast when Crunch was hitting, buuuut....

General rules question for anyone who knows:
The spirit has a listed immunity for poison. Many undead creatures have listed immunities for poison. Does brightshade override these immunities, applying vitality damage even though there's a listed immunity for poison, or is the immunity against poison-type damage, so that poisons that deal non-poison damage still work?
It's not a specific question because the spirit made its save, but just so I know in the future?
Herr Doktor Krankenweg
|
The Poison Immunity protects against both poison-type damage and poison in general.
But Brightshade clearly indicates an effect against Undead, which would not be possible if you were applying the Poison Immunity. It's a case were a strict application of RAW leads to a non-functional item.
Eliadyr
|
Eliadyr also dodges an arrow and fires, but it flies juuuust a bit outside. Note also that the spirit is 75' away, so the attack is 2nd range increment (-2).
Ooh I missed that sorry. Spellstrike only works in the first range increment, so would you be ok with Eliadyr instead ◆ recharging, ◆ striding and ◆ striking (with the same roll, so ineffectually)?

I didn't realize that!

Sure.

Man, I'm loving this Life Leap thing.
I took a look at the description.
Requirements You must be adjacent to a living creature
Since the spirit is undead, I don't think it qualifies as a living creature.
I know you used it earlier in combat, but I'm not going to go back and retcon anything. I'm going to move your icon back to the other side of the rift. The flank won't affect the outcome of Crunch's actions, and creature is off-guard to you anyway from Isaku's Shared Strategem.
Edit: I'm going to rule Cal double-Strides around the rift. It's only 40' of movement, so he can end up in the same place.
Callaverthorna
|
Thanks for fixing that up with the double move. Did we know it was undead? (Rhetorical question; doesn't matter.) I was assuming it was some type of fiend given the name "Demon"iac spirit, but yes, if it's undead it would not allow him to use that.
Rhaegal Dragonkin
|
So do we just keep chasing it around to try and let Crunch and Cal get in enough hits? Rhaegal has Dinosaur Form that he can use, but it doesn't make him more accurate.
The only other option I can think of is to go after the Red Troll and see if that helps.
| GM Watery Soup |
Just a quick kibitz: Eliadyr has ghost touch on his weapon.
Crunch, Champion of Torag
|
1/6 on the full-bonus attacks the last three rounds.
Another option such as hitting it with things that do more than 10 damage or disabling more runes sounds much better than waiting for the diebot to cooperate.
| GM Watery Soup |
You guys are doing fine. :)
When I played this, nobody had ghost touch. We relied on the fighter with Double Slice and it took so long that we Disabled all the runes.
Callaverthorna

My level 10 has an astral rune, and I meant to get one for Cal but opted for the dragon wing tattoo instead. Flight has been useful, but potions of fly exist. Not that Cal's particularly effective. 2d6+3 vs Resistance 10 means he can scratch the Spirit and provide flanking for Crunch.
I'll post in Gameplay shorty.
Isaku Beru
|
It's just annoying that a few of us end up so useless. Astral Runes now exist but at level 8 it's hard to already get them...
Tell me about it... :)
Herr Doktor Krankenweg

@Soup: I've positioned myself to be next to the hand but I don't know where it exactly is. Don't hesitate to move Herr Doktor if he's not positioned next to the hand.

If you want to be positioned next to the hand, you'll be positioned next to the hand.
The scenario says that the hand is "Large" but Large seems pretty small. And, it also says there are four fingers that reach outside the rift, so I'm not sure if it's supposed to be Large fingers on a Gargantuan body or what.
Either way, let's just say whoever wants to be in melee combat with a LITERAL GOD can get their wish, and anyone who want to back away can just back away. :D

I think I'll stand over there... (Isaku will be within throwing distance)
Crunch, Champion of Torag

Eliadyr -- We were all handed a greater elixir of life at the start of this one (assuming you were forgetting it rather than having already used it).

I also forgot about that...

Totally forgot - thank-you - I'll fix that!
| GM Watery Soup |
You are all welcome to revise your actions to include the greater elixir of life, but please help me out and do the math: subtract out what you posted previously, add the greater elixir of life, and post the number of hit points you should have.
Isaku Beru
|
No change here -- I'll save it in case I really need it...
Callaverthorna
|
Since Cal hadn't actually used his 3rd action, he'll draw the potion and plan to chug it down at the start of the next round. Thanks for reminding us of that.
Crunch, Champion of Torag
|
Doing our Lord Torag's work over here. =D
Herr Doktor Krankenweg
|
Sorry.
Don't. I'm used to it ;)
I believe fast healing is still active when Herr Doktor becomes unconscious - that means on his turn, he will get 3 hit points, lose unconscious and Dying 1, and gain Wounded 1 (and keep prone). If that's correct, Herr Doktor, you can go as well.
Yep, that was the main point of this fast healing.
There are a finite number of rounds in this fight; you need not defeat the Hand in combat.
Do you mean that we can't defeat the hand and that this combat is about surviving only or that we can defeat the hand and if we fail we still don't see a god walking on Golarion?
| GM Watery Soup |

The latter. It is possible to defeat the Hand. It has a finite AC and a finite number of hit points. But it's unlikely that you'll be able to deal that amount of damage before the rift closes (or it TPKs y'all).
Herr Doktor Krankenweg
|
It is immune to poison and disease, but I don't see Regurgitate Mutagen with either of those tags. Congratulations, you've sickened a god!
Super proud!!!!
And I think it'll be much more useful than the 28 points of damage, at least to give us a round to breathe :D| GM Watery Soup |
