When you arrive at the mountain, you see a sleek orange hovercar sitting in the parking lot. The license plate reads "HANDL7."

The door blocking the entrance is huge, metal, and sealed tight. It is surrounded by vegetation.

Charles gets out of the helicopter and eyes the vegetation warily. "Is this where they planted the supposedly less-than-lethal vines?" he asks no one in particular. "Because if it is the pair we're looking for..."

She does not. None of this vegetation looks like GreenGuard NightGuard Assassin VinesTM.

She does recognize this door as being the "air-tight" variety, intended to prevent deadly bacteria from escaping.

No one. The "driver's seat" is covered in fine blond fur as if someone let a shedding dog sit in it. With most cars being autopiloted these days (2219), there is no longer even a superficial distinction between passenger and driver seats usually. This car is a sports car though and has a 'driver's seat.'

Nissa says to the others, “At subatomic size, I can pass through the molecular structure of, well… anything.

“It’s probably a really dumb idea to fly through an airlock though. If I attempt to grow back while embedded in a solid, my corpse’ll be a microscopic meatball.

“I can safely break into the car, though.”

Subatomic: 1 resolve point per minute; can move 5 ft per minute. So I guess if there is a guaranteed space with breathable air, she can make it with enough resolve points.

Not sure if “air-tight” was meant to hint my powers are needed, or that I should not attempt subatomic mode here. I trust the Colonel’s response could guide me one way or the other.


To Nissa, Colonel Greer says, "The door's about 6 inches thick. It was designed to prevent any living thing inside from escaping in case of emergency. It's designers clearly had not heard of you."

The car is one of Handel's sports cars. Greer comments, "We thought all his cars were accounted for when we found 6 cars in 6 parking spots. The rich are never really satisfied, are they?"

Nissa giggles.

“Right! This ain’t a space station! I got this, Colonel!”

She turns to the others. “I’m sure between bestial might, telekinetic power and demigodly martial prowess, you don’t need me to break into a car.”

She becomes a stellar mote, and explains to Greer, “In this form, all of my stuff—guns, clothing, the contents of my purse, like that coin I’m not supposed to have—heh, heh? They all go… somewhere. Not sure where, but the point is that my personal comm will be functional once I’m back to my fleshy, armored self.

“Will that air-tight door block my signal? If I can’t communicate with you from the other side, you might wanna like, brief me? Or maybe show me a screenshot of the control panel and point out the button that opens the door.”

The door is locked. Colonel Greer takes out a metallic swipe card and hands it to Nissa. "There should be a simple panel in English on the other side. This card should give you access. Make sure you give that back to me when you're done."

Nissa reverts to her halfling self, armor flying onto her body as bursts of sparks don her gear. She then accepts the card and slips it into her purse.

Once she becomes a stellar mote again, the card goes wherever the purse disappears to. The sun, for all Nissa knows. (Or part of the Fictiverse?)

Nissa flies up to the center of the door and shrinks to nothing…

The molecular structure is like a universe of collided planets. From afar, they are an impenetrable mass. Light cannot shine through. But these planets are too solid to be crushed or misshapen by each other. To an inhabitant, every planet shares a spacious sky with its neighbor.

Nissa soars between worlds, her stellar body being the only light source within the dense matter. To those waiting, the journey takes mere seconds, but to the extremely-tiny, time passes impossibly-slowly, and even then Nissa’s flight feels dangerously reckless as she covers the distance from Earth to Venus, weaving around thousands of other Earths and millions of other Venuses.

As she nears the end, Nissa’s memory condenses the journey as if it simply felt borderline-eternal, like a barrage of 30-second holographic ads interrupting your favorite show.

Finally, the universe is as it should be: spacious sky, electrons beaming in the light of the environment. These are air molecules. Nissa floats by hundreds of them, by hundred-thousands of them. She watches them all shrink to nothing, feels her body falling slowly at millimeters-tall, depending on wings at inches-tall…

If nothing is there to stop her, Nissa reverts to her halfling self, removes the card from her purse and opens the door.


In the big dark entranceway, nothing appears to stop her, but when she swipes the card and the door opens, light comes in. It's only then as the light penetrates the room that Nissa hears the slithering of plants for the second time today.

The room is about 30' wide by 40'. The door is huge and wide enough for a Manual Loading Robot (MLR) to walk in and out with large crates. Just such a robot stands off to the side, powered down.

On the floor of the entrance room are two guards, alive, but bleeding and unconscious. The vines that strangled them slither towards the light, and toward the PCs.

There are only two vines. They don't appear to have come from any packaging, so the duo may have brought the vines with them.

Verve was waiting on the other side of the door when it opened.

"Nice work the...look out!" she interrupted herself as the plants started to move forward.

Nissa runs to the sports car, volleys onto the hood, and stand up on the roof of the car. She draws her guns, shouting, “Let’s lure ’em toward me!”

The vines slither towards the light and the nearest target.
It looks like the vines get to attack first, but if you are doing as Nissa has suggested and luring them towards her, then let me know that.

I would have moved when she called out, but to be fair I was standing in the doorway, too, so I could see it going either way.

One of the vines attacks Nissa and one attacks Theo. If the one attacking Nissa hits, it may hinder her movement.

“Ouch!” Nissa yells as the plant grabs her before she can make her move.

Where’s ‘Shear Awesomeness’ when I need her? she jokes to herself to take her mind off the fear and pain.

Charles's growl splits and becomes a tripartite bass harmony as he swells larger, his four arms becoming four more legs while his feline and reptilian heads sprout from his shoulders. He surges forward with a triple roar, charging towards the offending vines.

But shifting is a standard action so that's my round.


Drawing a sword is a free action, so Theo still has an attack this round, I think.

The vine managed to grapple Nissa, barely. She cannot move from place unless she escapes from the grapple with an acrobatics check. She still has a turn. Verve mentioned she was moving as Nissa suggested, but she has an attack as well.

Verve backed up, but spread away from Nissa, so it couldn't attack multiple people at once. Once the thing had pulled itself out of the doorway, she used her power to fling one of her crystals at it.

With a triple roar (errr, well, more like a double roar and a snarl, given his fox head isn't given to roaring) Charles charges forward and slashes at the nearest vines with his claws.

Having failed to escape the vine, Nissa shoots it.

The vine whips and writhes and slithers as Charles slashes at it. Charles misses. Both Verve and Nissa score hits on one of the vines.

New Round

One vine continues to attack Nissa:: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 111d8 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Another attacks Theo again: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 271d8 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9

The vine wraps around Theo and jerks so tight it almost succeeds in pulling him off his feet.

That came close to pinning Theo.

In OoC terms, 20 feet away from Nissa is enough. If people can’t get away, I won’t have her Supernova.

She shoots the plant again—

Nissa slithers out of the vine that surrounded her and manages to move away. That vine begins to retreat.

The other, however, tries to tighten its grip on Theo.

Charles attacks the vine holding Theo with his large dinosaur-like head's fangs.

Said fangs come worryingly close to accidentally sinking into Theo's arm.

Verve gestured at the tentacle monster and another crystal flew out and targeted the body.

Between Theo's sword and Verve's crystal's the vine takes enough damage to make it retreat from this potential food source. It slinks back into the entrance of the Seedvault where two guards lie dead and strangled. Strange red flowers litter the floor around them. They seem to be dissolving into little pools of blood.

The room is sparse and doesn't have the type of features you would expect in a lobby. It is meant to receive shipments, not to entertain.

There's a room off to one side of the entrance. From the glow you can tell there are banks of monitors within.

Opposite the main door, there is an elevator designed to move heavy cargo. The panel above the elevator indicates the elevator is currently at sub-level 3.

"Godsdamn, killer salad!" Theo barks as it retreats.


"Did you guys need any help with that?" asks Colonel Greer who doesn't appear to be armed.

Nissa is ready to explode! But as the plants retreat, she points her guns and… it’s clear to her she’s more likely to hit the guard’s corpses or just shoot a wall.

“Dammit…”

She glances at the car, disappointed that the photon energy within her stabilized before she could release a supernova out of spite.

She replies to Greer, “If they stuck around just a little longer, I could’ve blasted them. No sense jumping in without a weapon, Colonel. I’m just bummed the plants prevented us from saving those two.” Her eyes fixed on the dead guards as she speaks.

Her armor crashes onto the ground, bursting into sparks. “I could use a break,” she says, fluttering un-energetically in mote form.

She is content to sit on someone’s hand or shoulder, if that will allow her to rest while others move about and investigate the scene.

I lost all of my SP and 1 HP, so I definitely need the 10 min. rest!

"Is that a security room? Are there cameras active?" Charles asks. "I'd look myself but I think I want to stay ready for battle, and I don't want to break something in there trying to squeeze in."


Colonel Greer enters the room. "Ah, the T33-Omni. Great security system. Let me see if I can find this duo."

The cameras appear to be mostly infra-red. The screens show vault after vault, of varying sizes, each locked securely. Greer taps through the different cameras until he finds a vault that isn't locked securely. A 2 foot by 2 foot vault door sits wide open. A dim blue light comes from inside revealing it to be empty.

"How are they opening the vaults---? Colonel Greer asks himself before asking, "Could someone see if your dead guards are missing any thumbs?"

They are.

Nissa (in mote form) says, “If you let me sit on your shoulder while I meditate, my glow is as powerful as any flashlight.”

While the relative luminosity of fairy vs. flashlight may be up for debate, Nissa is undoubtedly a light source.

"I can see in the dark. One of the bad doctor's 'gifts'," Charles growls. "Are there other exits they could be going for? How much did they take out? For that matter, what did they take?"

He pauses, then adds, "If you can tell."

"I want to shine a light to see if I can lure the plant out of reach so we can get to the security room."


The plants retreated to the bodies of the guards, which were in the entrance way. Colonel Greer entered the security room.

"I know that we're standing in a facility dedicated to preserving samples of all genetic tissue, but wouldn't you rather kill it?" asks Colonel Greer as he hands Verve a flashlight. He looks at one of the vines, which has wrapped itself around the arm of one of the dead guards. It seems to be trying to drink his no longer pumping blood. "I guess you should at least get it off of the deceased."

“I’d be glad to.”

She becomes her armored self, whips out both guns and approaches the plant, eyes burning red. Nissa doesn’t bother removing the plant from the corpse. The heat from her gun shouldn’t disfigure the human body, but it will dry up the plant.

From about 20 feet away, Nissa starts blasting the damned thing.

“Die.”

Shoot: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

Shoot: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
