GM Rinaldo |

Klatzu is fairly certain the ceiling is about to collapse and any sudden move will trigger it. IE, if no one can disable it, it is going off.

![]() |

Emdi is also untrained in Crafting. Emdi does remember that Klatzu fixed the cart in town, so he has Crafting.

![]() |

Apologies, I checked in at bad times.
"KLATZU WILL FIX IT!" I have no idea how Klatzu is supposed to fix this if it's about to collapse, so I guess he'll grab a piece of furniture, throw it at the roof and hope it jams the floor long enough for everyone to escape?
Crafting: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
...okay looks like Klatzu knew about as much as I did about this type of issue.

GM Rinaldo |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

I seriously adore Klatzu. :-)
Klatzu eagerly pulls some pieces of wood and attempts to make a brace for the ceiling. In doing so, he jams the wood directly through the ceiling, dropping wood, plaster, and a small herd of giant centipedes on everyone's heads.
First, everyone in the room (Emdi, Klatzu, and Hiro) takes 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (5, 4) + 3 = 12 bludgeoning damage, with a DC 16 Reflex save (save for half, crit save for no damage, crit fail for double damage and fall prone).
Second, the room is now full of giant bugs! I am placing everyone on the map based on where they were investigating, and rolling Perception for initiative as everyone was effectively "exploring" or "searching".
Bellona : 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
Hiro : 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15

Yellow : 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
Black : 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
OK, that spread things out a lot. In the interest of speeding play, I'm going to adjust them a little so that they are in groups of two, moving them down so that it favors you.

Double move and take the harp out

GM Rinaldo |

Bellona moves up to provide assistance as two of the bugs bite at Klatzu!
They don't have to move, so each gets three attacks. I'm crossing my fingers for you ...

Rushing in from the study hall, Bellamin feints with one punch before landing a second squarely onto a centipede's body. The bug quivers and stops moving. Black is defeated!
Two more bugs move in to attack Hiro and Bellamin.

Klatzu falls off the bed in a panic, but is able to quickly rebound do to his rubbery body, inadvertently positioning himself to take advantage of Emdi’s position.
>Klatzu Steps to the left to Flank with Emdi, taking a quick strike before booking it towards the door.
>Klatzu Strikes the flanked Centipede [Orange] who is presumeably flat footed.
Greatsword Strike vs Flat-Footed Orange Centipede, add Flat Footed bonus if applicable: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Greatsword Damage: 1d12 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Klatzu then retreats to the doorway, in part to see if the centipedes are quick enough to catch him, in part to create a chokepoint for the insects, and in part to ensure he doesn’t get knocked unconscious for later healing. ”Chop Chop friend; doorway!”
>Klatzu Strides to get into the doorway, provoking from Orange if still alive and has any Attack of Opportunity-esque reactions.

GM Rinaldo |

Klatzu bounces and rolls his way out the door, taking a quick slash at one of the bugs one his way; sadly, even with the distraction provided by Emdi, he isn't able to connect.
No reactions; even with flanking, the attack didn't hit. :-(

A reminder that Glimpse of Redemption is active.
You'll need to tell me when you're using it. I'll retcon damage if necessary.
Emdi fires off two arrows at the bug in front of him. Both hit, and between the two are enough to stop it cold! Orange is defeated.

GM Rinaldo |

Bellona, Crossbow is "Reload 1", so you need one action to draw the weapon, one to load, and then you can fire. I'll let you change those two actions.

GM Rinaldo |

It's been 24 hours, I'm going to say that Bellow drew and loaded and will fire next round.
Two of the bugs move up to attack the nearest people.
Yellow #1 vs Hiro: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16

Requirements You have healer’s tools (page 290).
You treat a patient to prevent the spread of poison. Attempt a Medicine check against the poison’s DC. After you attempt to Treat a Poison for a creature, you can’t try again until after the next time that creature attempts a save against the poison.
Critical Success You grant the creature a +4 circumstance bonus to its next saving throw against the poison.
Success You grant the creature a +2 circumstance bonus to its next saving throw against the poison.
Critical Failure Your efforts cause the creature to take a –2 circumstance penalty to its next save against the poison.

GM Rinaldo |

Tresten moves in and skewers a bug with ease. Second strike wasn't needed, feel free to take a different third action.

GM Rinaldo |

I moved you to one side of the last bug, there is a spot someone else could take to provide a flank.

![]() |

If Red is down, can Klatzu and I go as well?
If Hiro Steps north to flank, Emdi will Stride an additional square north, eating an AoO for the Focus Spell if necessary. Hiro heals 6 HP and gains +2 to AC for 1 round.
If no AoO (or there is one and misses), Emdi fires an arrow.
Shortbow (inspired courage): 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 7 + 1 = 26
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
If he is hit with an AoO, he will Raise a Shield instead (he's wearing the cold iron buckler we found in town).

![]() |

I was hoping the crossbow could be loaded when drawn. Anyway next round Bellona's actions are to shoot, reload and shoot again. If Bellona's allowed to keep her previous roll here's the second one
Attack 02: 1d20 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 + 1 = 7 → Damage roll: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

GM Rinaldo |

I was hoping the crossbow could be loaded when drawn.
Sadly, no. If you don't hold a crossbow level, the bolt falls right out.
If Hiro hasn't posted by tomorrow morning, I'll bot his actions and move forward.

![]() |

Apologies. Unexpectedly hectic day yesterday.
Hiro takes a guarded juke step to the side to flank with Tresten. He then throws a wicked axe kick! ATK: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16 for DMG: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
And he follows with a a downward punch! ATK: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8 for DMG: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

GM Rinaldo |

With a quick step and a brutal kick, Hiro kills the last bug!
===END OF COMBAT===
With the ceiling already collapsed, there is no further hazard in the room, allowing you to study it at your leisure. Sadly, you find nothing else of interest.
You have a couple of investigations remaining that have not been completed. Other than that, you have opened every door and checked out every room you can find.
You have been in the college for about 45 minutes, making a total of about 2 hours since you saw the undead scouts near the town.

![]() |

Are we going to handwave the poison away? I can LoH for 6 HP and I think Klatzu can channel. That should give him enough HP to ride out the poison.

![]() |

I believe Bellona tried a Perception check at the entrance? Otherwise there's nothing she can contribute here I fear.

GM Rinaldo |

Oops, We do need to resolve the poison. Since Hiro didn't roll it, here is his initial save: Hiro Fort: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25 And that takes care of it. No handwaving needed, Hiro is just that tough. :-)
So, you have a couple of checks you can do, or you can do any other 10 minute actions you might have. If you are done, the final thing is to inventory what items and bodies you intend to take back. For the bodies, part of your mission is to identify any of the missing pathfinders, so I'll want you to tell me who the bodies are. I recommend going through all of the posts to make sure you haven't missed anything.

![]() |

I believe that the body downstairs we found surrounded by all the dead zombies is Bryrigar Hassen. If folks don't mind taking another 10 minutes, we could examine the statue again. In terms of items, I'm carrying an antique Iomedaen holy text.

![]() |

Can we also discuss healing? Emdi is down 6, Klatzu 12, and Hiro 13. Emdi can always touch himself and then use 10 minutes to Refocus, but if there's a communal solution, he'd like to get in on that.
Emdi will search the body in the bed chamber with Religion +3 if he is healed.
Fair warning, Emdi's going to try and save some of the art in the main gallery, it's an anathema to Shelyn that he leaves it here to be destroyed.

![]() |

Klatzu breathes a hard breath before coughing up some ceiling plaster. Digging around in his belt, he successfully pulls out his holy symbol before chanting a quick prayer to Gorum under his breath. (Three Action heal on the entire party.) Heal: 1d10 ⇒ 1
"This what Klatzu get for missing worm-with-legs..." Klatzu is willing to channel again if desired and/or spend a quick break tending to wounds & refocus if anyone wants to go a last round of searching the dregs. In either case, always happy to see my dice online being just as bad as IRL!
edit: gonna say that Klatzu will keep hold of his spoils since the only thing of any weight he really has is the sign. He'll keep the longsword and wayfinder on his person, especially since he doesn't have his own atm. That said, running some of the corpses by our living Pathfinder friend may help in identification.

GM Rinaldo |

Emdi: Sadly, the only item in the main gallery that is still salvageable is the portrait of the halfling woman that Trestan identified.
Klatzu: Bellona wants to spends two rounds of 10 minutes refocussing, so you have time for Treat Wounds if anyone trained in medicine has healer's tools.

![]() |

Emdi will Lay on Hands himself, and then go examine the body by the college entrance with Perception +3.
Emdi asks Larraz if he is able to identify the body we found in the town square, which should be outside in the cart.
For the second 10 minute round, he will Refocus by admiring the painting of the halfling woman in the main hall, and sketching the imagined environs of the painting so that it can be appropriately placed in its proper context when we bring it back.
I've put our body identifications on the slides. We really do need that Crafting check for the cloth to confirm it's Bryrigar (the other half-orc is Larraz, whom we found alive).
