Rand more stuff (comeliness): 3d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 6) = 16
height: 1d12 ⇒ 12 5 foot 10 +12 inches is 6 foot 10
lol, looks like Noya and Talienda are going to be opposite in height extremes, and similar in that they were closed off from the world in there childhood, Noya was raise in a Convent/Abbey until she was in her teens.
still working on the more fluff....

Ok, that took a bit more time than I expected. I finished reviewing these PCs:
1. Talib Abd Al-Abadar
2. Morsun Morsun
3. Talienda Blackhorn
4. Canisen Redadel
5. Skurly Geddinloe
6. Rissi Than
7. Sinésiel Arvine
8. Misfire Mylok
Some of you have received PMs asking for clarification on some minor things; if you haven't received anything, don't worry, it just means everything was clear and I had no extra questions. I'm humbled by the effort you have put into this and already dread having to choose only 6 PCs next week.

@RHMG/Noya: finally had the time to properly look at your submission. Everything's clear and no questions, thanks!
Gentle reminder for any remaining lurkers that the deadline is tomorrow, 23:59 (CEST). I have already started working on mixing and matching the current submissions, so unless we have a sudden influx of new people I should be able to come to a decision by late thursday/early friday.
The list kindly updated by RHMG is the most up-to-date. Please check if your character is there and let me know otherwise.
Skurly Geddinloe |
Writeup and character sheet are complete, I think- I just need to transcribe the sheet into text for the profile. This was a really fun character to write, and it's been great reading everyone else's as well, so no matter who gets in this has been a win for me, and I'll be following the game in any case.
I'll be away from internet access throughout the coming weekend, but I will join you again on Monday. Cheers!

Dear gentlepersons: due to some unforeseen issues with one of my side gigs, I was forced to rearrange my planning a bit and make a decision now. Extra work for me, but less waiting for you.
It is just past 16:30 in Absalom and many people begin to thank whatever gods they believe in for the encroaching end of a day in which an unpleasant sense of wrongness seemed to permeate every word uttered, every step taken and every meal eaten. A sickly crow flies over the roofs of the miserable city, as if driven by an eerie sense of purpose.
Its first stop is at the docks. It lands on the roof of a tavern where a dashing one-eyed man who goes by Misfire Mylok drinks yet another pint of hearty ale. He realises there's something special about this one; shortly after, he's out cold and his head thuds against the wooden table.
The noise scares the crow, who perches a few blocks away on the roof of an abandoned house, just in time to see the sun feebly caress Skurly Geddinloe's face as he sneaks inside. The doe-eyed halfling, struck by a sudden and uncanny exhaustion, rests his eyes for a moment on a dirty pillow, falling almost immediately into a deep slumber. A few seconds later, the bird flies away.
It darts over the head of a Talib abd Al-Abadar, a gaunt holy man of Abadar who is investigating an anonymous tip regarding illegal dealings in the Coins. He is close to this supposed den of corruption when he finds himself in a dead-end. Before he can decide on a new course of action, everything turns black.
Continuing its way north, the crow dives towards a beautiful and luxurious garden. It lands on top of a canvas; the painter, a mournful and pale human called Talienda Blackhorn sleeps with an open envelope resting on her lap. The crow grabs a brush that lies on the ground, the paint on its tip still wet, and takes off with its new shiny bauble.
Happy with its find, it turns back south, flying over Rissi Than, a reddish-brown ratwoman who is carrying a pile of scrolls and books. A carriage obstructs the bird's view for a brief moment; once it's gone, Rissi is nowhere to be found.
Just as it is about to reach its nest on the Precipice Quarter, the crow makes one last stop. It drops the brush on the ground, right in front of a half-elven woman dressed somewhat like a Sarenrae priestess. Sinésiel Arvine hears breaking glass behind her; her vision begins to blur and she falls unconscious.
The crow utters a few dead caws before taking to the skies again and heading to the Precipice Quarter.
As I said before, it was tough since every submission was solid and perfectly fit the module. Canisen, Noya and Morsun: I hope you are ok with me keeping your PCs in mind in case anyone has a change of heart. Honestly, thank you so much and I hope to soon bump into you again here in the forums.

Hello all,
Due to a few players having gone AWOL, I am re-opening recruitment for two PCs. All Paizo content allowed, no third-party.
Take a look at the original character creation guidelines for instructions, but also keep in mind the crunch and fluff notes below.
We have just finished the Hangman's Noose module, in case you are familiar with it, and will now continue on to something a bit more freeform (meaning, we won’t be following any specific module or scenario, but there’s still an overarching narrative structure and I might borrow bits and pieces from pre-made stuff).
Crunch-wise, everything is pretty much the same, with the exception you will start at level 3.
The current group consists of: a ratfolk bard, a human sorceress and a human inquisitor of abadar.
When it comes to background, the main requirement is that you are in Absalom when you begin the scenario, as most if not all of the remainder of this story will happen there.
You can safely ignore the bits about the deceased relative and the rest.
It’s also appreciated if you already present us with some hooks to get you involved with the team. Take a look at the rumours below for some possible inspiration, but don’t feel pressured in using any of it.
• A group of people have recently been kidnapped and taken to an abandoned building in the precipice quarter. Only a few survived the night, chased by undead horrors;
• Some rich bigshot was involved in the kidnappings, but it’s all being kept under wraps by the authorities;
• A gambling den, The Lucky Harpy, burned to the ground a couple of weeks ago, after the supposed death of its mysterious owner;
• The fire was started by a small and ferocious demon;
• Somewhere in Absalom there’s a book that gives you a new body in exchange for your mind and vice-versa.
• There’s a bounty on some Petal girl’s head, daughter of a famous businessman who died not very long ago;
• A few important figures of Absalom’s underbelly have recently died and warring factions are now fighting for primacy;
• A woman in the puddles started charging people to see a new ocean inside her cellar;

Kudos to you and the entire group for finishing the module, that's always a satisfying feeling. I've skimmed over the Gameplay thread, and I really like the care everyone takes in their posting. I might be interested in joining, if I can come up with a character that fits your narrative.
Before I dig further into creating a PC, is there anything the party currently lacks? With a bard, melee inquisitor and sorcerer, this seems like the basis for a well-rounded party already. No clear gaps in skills as well? Any role in particular you'd like filled, either combat-wise of in party dynamics?
GM Omelas |
@Noya: brilliant, thanks!
@Iff: Thanks! I think that the others might be able to give better input on what they feel might be missing from the group. Personally, I usually try to adapt the challenges to the skills of the group within the bounds of reason (for instance, a trap that can be circumvented with a good idea or a good perception roll if the group doesn't have a proper rogue), so I'm fine with anything that fits the narrative.
Talienda Blackhorn |
Hello! I'm one of the players and I figure I should point out that I'm planning on going for Arcane Trickster with Talienda. As for what we're lacking, we could use a solid fighter-type or a cleric to help with the healing. Talienda is going for more blitz and glamour than utility, so she'll be running light in the buff/de-buff and general utility departments. I think Rissi will have that covered. Talib is a good all-arounder, but the last fight shows we don't have the endurance or toughness for a long fight when the hands are played and it's all down to grit and determination.
Iff |
Thanks for the info, Talienda. I think I've got an idea for a martial character. Here's the gist for review, before I work out all the details.
My proposed character is a Vigilante with the Avenging Beast archetype. He's a man in his late 40's of humble origin, a caravan driver. He was captured into slavery and promptly transitioned through Absalom when slavery was abolished there. Though free, he did not have any coin to sustain himself or to purchase passage back home. He settled in the Puddles district (or the Precipice Quarter, whichever works better), and found that it quickly became home to him. He wanted to lay low and not cause trouble, but also couldn't turn a blind eye to the crime and squalor around him. Therefore, he crafted a falcon mask and took to the streets in disguise to protect the common folk. He found that his work attracted the attention of a divine patron, which granted him a small measure of magic through the mask he had created. He's good with a bow, but also not afraid to mix it up in melee combat if needed.
Mechanically, the feat tax rules allow me to invest some feats in ranged combat while also being decent in melee. I think he'd come out as a switch-hitter with just a smattering of magic to augment his battle prowess; spells like Aspect of the Falcon and Gravity Bow.
GM Omelas |
@iff: sounds good to me. Can definitely see it working with the current group (and, actually, one of the PCs we lost along the way was also a ranged guy with some utility, so not completely dissimilar to your vigilante). Something to think about: Talib, the inquisitor, is sort of a known law-enforcement presence in Absalom (mostly Coins, but he gets around), so your PC might know him, either personally or from hearsay and have an opinion.

Talib Abd al-Abadar |
Hi, I'm the aforementioned inquisitor. I don't have much to add to Talienda's summary—the front line could really use some additional muscle.
@Iff: It would be interesting to have a vigilante in the group. As GM Omelas already pointed out, it sounds like there might be some overlap in our characters' areas of operation. Talib is not exactly pro-vigilantism, but he's got bigger, systematically corrupt fish to fry. This—along with his methods—often puts him at odds with secular authorities. Of course, unlike a vigilante from the Puddles, he's got the divine mandate of the god of law on his side.
@electricjokecascade: Hello there, friend. I look forward to seeing your submission. :)
Sekla Torgut |
@Talib: Hey there! Now this is a good omen indeed.
Here's my submission. Anador is a cleric of Pharasma, adept at both holding the front line and healing those in need. His reason for journeying to the Precipice Quarter is detailed in his background, though I'm happy to flesh it out more if needed. Thanks!
GM Omelas |
@Anandor: thanks for the submission! Looks good to me -- I might have some questions on Anandor's opinions on his task (what does he think Pharasma wants him to do? How does he feel about having arrived too late? Or does he think he arrived at the correct time?), but it's not crucial right now.
@Noya: thanks! One question: why would Noya take an interest in the group's plight? Besides a general desire to help people, I mean. Most of the current characters have a very personal reason to continue moving forward and risking their lives (find out the truth about a relative, finish an investigation they have invested years in, etc).
EDIT: Noya has brought to my attention that the feat tax link on the original recruitment post is broken. You can use this one instead: https://michaeliantorno.com/the-elephant-in-the-room-feat-taxes-in-pathfind er-page/
Noya Yuuki Aiba |
Well instead of just focusing on the party's plight as the only connection let's look at characters that are listed with Noya and attach them with some of your rumours to see if there can be more then just the party's plight, mainly these four;
• Some rich bigshot was involved in the kidnappings, but it’s all being kept under wraps by the authorities;
• A gambling den, The Lucky Harpy, burned to the ground a couple of weeks ago, after the supposed death of its mysterious owner;
• The fire was started by a small and ferocious demon;
• A few important figures of Absalom’s underbelly have recently died and warring factions are now fighting for primacy;
Now for the kidnappings one, it's easy to connect with one of her friends, BUT also one of her foes.
The gambling den fire supposedly started by a demon could of been caused by one of her foes (Jin comes to mind since he is smart to mislead and misdirect)
The Underbelly war could of been amplified by either of Noya's foes.

This looks kinda amazing! I've been reading through the gameplay thread and I love the vibe you've all got going. I'm here to submit Hammen Achterberg: a sweet, shy, and massive young veteran of a pointless war who came to Absalom to escape his past and joined a rudimentary fire brigade. At that gambling den fire it seems like his past caught up with him.
Mechanically he's a fighter / bloodrager who'd be filling the role of a front-line damage-dealer and tank, specializing in combat maneuvers and particularly, of all things, overrunning. With his wand he's fully competent as a between-combat healer, and his hedgehog familiar Bartholomew can chip in as a very stealthy scout.
His full statblock is in the profile and his story is in this post. GM, I hope you'll forgive me if it goes on too long, I might have gotten a bit carried away. Let me know if you have any questions or thoughts! I'm on eastern time and right now I'm not in any other games.
The first thing you'll notice about Hammen is his size: big. At just over seven feet tall with the bulk to match Hammen can never really blend into a crowd. You might step back to get a more complete look at him — in the process, making him deeply uncomfortable. Then you'll take in the other obvious features. His odd quasi-uniform, a jumble of stone and leather and cord that's more often than not covered in soot. The blatant subtleties of accent and mannerism that say this one's not from around here. What looks like... some sort of water pump?... strapped to his back.
But if you stick around him long enough, you'll start to notice other things. The tentative softness when he talks. The way he tilts his head when he listens. Or the small hedgehog, ever-so-slowly poking its head out from a perch nestled against his collar.
Hammen was born in the city of Korholm, but even there it was made clear to him that he didn't fully belong. His family scraped by as indentured laborers under Molthune's militaristic regime. Still, he had as happy a childhood as the circumstances could allow. He was never the most gregarious of kids, but he was sweet and friendly and enjoyed his free moments in the company of friends — and of course, his beloved pet hedgehog Bartholomew.
Things changed as he grew older, and grew bigger, and just. kept. growing. Gradually the folks working next to him shifted from smiles to stares to outright resentment. He began to hear whispering about "that Shoanti barbarian freak." He tried not to let it get to him, but as he grew more isolated he only became more awkward. Soon his parents and Bartholomew were his only reliable company.
So Hammen was already in a pretty rough spot when everything he knew burned to the ground. He came home one day to find their overcrowded building complex in flames. He sprinted in, choking on smoke and smashing through collapsing walls, only to find his parents' lifeless bodies. In that moment, as a panicked, wheezing hedgehog scrambled up his leg, Hammen could swear he heard over the roar of the flames the faint sound of some horrible laughter.
After that day there he wanted nothing more than to get out of Molthune, to buy passage on a trade ship to anywhere else. But he couldn't leave without proper citizenship, and there was only one way to get it: to serve for five years in the Imperial Army. He was terrified of the army and its brutal violence, but what else was there?
Hammen enlisted as a combat medic; they were in short supply. He didn't have much natural talent for medicine but he was a diligent learner, and he did find he had a knack for activating some healing wands. Anything was better than picking up a sword or an axe.
Still, five years passed agonizingly slowly. At first Hammen only rarely saw actual fighting, but when he did he hated every second. The wounded crying out for help, Hammen charging toward them desperately. An enemy soldier blocking his path, Hammen plowing him over. The crunch of bones snapping under his boots.
Officers started sending him into battle more frequently, medic or not his size and strength were impossible to overlook. The worst part is, Hammen started to get used to it. But he still felt that it was wrong. His only comfort was Bartholomew, who seemed more comprehending every day. Something was definitely odd about him. Were hedgehogs even supposed to live this long? Or fit so easily in pockets? Or float?
The day the five years were up Hammen took his papers and the money he'd saved and left on the next ship. It brought him to Absalom, where he settled with a sigh of relief. At first he was at a bit of a loss for what to do with his newfound freedom. He wanted to help people, deep down he was still that same caring kid. But the one thing he knew he was good at was the one thing he couldn't bring himself to do.
In retrospect, the answer was simple. Hammen joined a fire brigade, recently funded by the city to protect the neighborhood where he was now living. With his strength and stamina plus a bit of first aid knowledge he was perfectly suited for the job. He could finally put his compassion to good use, rescuing civilians from danger without lifting a blade. And over the months he began to build friendships with his coworkers, still somewhat shy and awkward but starting to open up. He was happy.
Then. Just a couple weeks ago. A gambling den burned down and Hammen was one of the first responders. And he heard, with perfect clarity, that same faint otherworldly laughter as the day his parents died.
For the past two weeks Hammen has been constantly on edge, digging for any hint about what could have started this fire. And now a frie— a coworker has told him about kidnappings at an abandoned building, a building where several burned bodies were found...

@Hammen: thanks! Submission looks fine (and fun). Also, I'm in love with Bartholomew.

Summary:
Complete
1) Anandor Corvinus
2) Noya Yuuki Alba
3) Hammen Achterberg
Incomplete
4) Iff's Vigilante
Assuming we get that last one in by Sunday, I will discuss the four recruits with the current players (this is as much their game as mine, after all) and should have the two picks Monday at the latest.

I've just realized there's a much more organic way to introduce a PC to the game: be one of the mercenaries Talib suggests Talienda hire as added security during these precarious times.
So rather than attempt to shoehorn a Chelaxian cleric into the game, I'm going to create a local merc of dubious morality but exceptional talents who could be hired on short notice :)
GM Omelas |
You are of course free to submit another character if you want to, but if your only concern is integrating Anandor in a manner that doesn't feel too unnatural, I actually already had a couple of ideas that would insert him within the overarching narrative, in the event he becomes one of the two new recruits.

Sekla Torgut |
I got a little carried away with this new submission, but was having too much fun with her background to write something succinct. For that, my apologies.
Here is Sekla Torgut, a hobgoblin fighter and local mercenary in the Precipice Quarter in good standing with the Church of Abadar. Her background, appearance, personality, and 'wait, a hobgoblin?' spoilers are all in her profile. I hope this isn't too outlandish, and thanks for the opportunity to submit her.

Well, in case you didn't catch it, there was a hobgoblin gang boss among the people caught in the courthouse, so there's certainly precedent. Sekla looks very interesting, and introducing her through Talib's recommendation/the Church of Abadar gives a pre-existing connection to a player character, as well, which I like.
Talienda would be absolutely terrified of Sekla, I'm sure. :P

Also, I'm in love with Bartholomew.
That is way too adorable.
The cutest part is he has some fun familiar things that give him compression and a slow flight speed — I'm imagining him squeezing down to the size of a golf ball or poofing up to float around like a little balloon.

Just finished reading through the whole gameplay thread. What a harrowing night! Nightmare fuel to last a lifetime. Kudos to everyone involved; it's rare that a gameplay thread proves so riveting to read.
And poor Talienda! Had she not displayed so many moments of fiery strength and resolve, I'd be really worried about her sanity...
I can easily envision how investigating Diago's businesses and partnerships could reveal an entire sordid network of corruption and crime. A lot of intriguing threads to follow up on. Excellent stuff!
