**OVERSEER ANNOUNCEMENT** (2 of 2)
Suddenly, it becomes clear that the astral invaders’ retreat is merely a ploy. More invaders pour through the rifts to reinforce their companions. Their reckless assault tears the holes wider, and the entire demiplane begins to shift and fold. Locations fade and vanish, reappearing miles away, now separated by a wide expanse of barren, rocky wasteland. The invaders continue to pour through, and the tapestry’s exhausted repair mechanisms cease to function altogether. The triumphant attackers converge on the Pathfinders scattered across the wasteland.
Then, the sky turns red.
A primal screech pierces the tapestry, and a colossal ruby-flamed phoenix appears in the sky, its wings nearly blocking the sun. It swoops across the sky at tremendous speed, its tattered feathers leaving a trail of smoke. With another screech, it flaps its massive wings, and countless fiery feathers shoot towards the invaders. As the feathers strike, they explode, incinerating much of the invading force. Then the phoenix turns its attention to the other outsiders—the mass of Pathfinders—and beats its wings once more. A barrage of feathers strikes the wasteland, and from each resulting inferno emerges a bird of pure ruby-red flames.
Aram Zey’s voice echoes. “Can you hear me, Pathfinders? The tapestry is in its death throes! You are cut off—I cannot help you escape. Destroy the phoenixes—perhaps their magic can repair the tapestry!”
Table GMs, the Tapestry’s Last Defense condition on page 29 is in effect.
Yabatha Grimna
|
Not sure if we are going to stay in the previous fight, because it looks like the overseer is moving us along!
As the tapestry begins to fold in on itself and break apart, the small gnome cleric clutches at her holy symbol, and tell her own companion to retreat to her side. "By the holy word, Nethys, protect us." She whispers a single prayer, hoping that this will all be over soon.
She listens to Zey's voice, and nods. "Alright team, I think we have no other choice but to fight now." She looks around at the party, "Is anyone hurt? Does anyone need some healing before we continue?"
Yabatha holds her quarterstaff tightly, the runes on it glowing very slightly as she focuses her energy.
Kaya Leafwing
|
Kaya shrugs as a new encounter presents itself, "Naw, I don't think the mummy even got a chance to move up before the phoenixes wiped it out. I feel bad that we have to kill them, but if it can keep the tapestry around then..."
GM Dennis
|
Hi folks. You GM is having some weather-related connectivity issues, so I'm going to step in for a moment until I can get a backup dispatched.
Your current fight is over, and you have two rounds to prepare for the next fight. Also, you should decide if you want to take on the optional hard mode. It's a much more difficult fight, but if you're successful you get a bonus on your check to help repair the tapestry. We'll do that only by unanimous consent.
Yabatha Grimna
|
Thank you Dennis! Yabatha votes hard mode, because I think it will be more fun, and she still has all her important resources.
Hudor Nero
|
Hard Mode is fine with me.
Unless 3 hours have passed already, Hudor's Mage Armor should still be active. If not, he'll cast that again.
Travail
|
I hope Eclipse is OK, that hurricane sounded nasty.
Travail greases his bow with oil of magic weapon.
Hmmm... I don't want to be the one to wimp out but we don't have a ton of firepower in this party... what exactly is "hard mode"?
Kaya Leafwing
|
Kaya suggests we do not do hard mode as we have not exactly cruised through any of the normal combat encounters. She has no prep and keeps her crossbow out.

A powerful scream of Rage and Anguish reverberates across the tapestry as waves of flames heralds its arrival.
The heat unleashed washes over everyone like a Tsunami of unchecked power!
"Order shall be restored. Chaos will be purged." Its voice both quiet yet loud echoes within your very psyches as for a moment , the very space twists and explodes, revealing your foe in all its glorious flaming appearance.
This is a powerful elemental creature; a type of outsider made of fire. Because of the mutable form it is immune to effects requring a body, like bleeding, paralysis, poison, stunning, critical hits, sneak attack, or flanking. It is immune to fire and vulnerable to cold and the melee attacks of the creature are able to set their victims on fire.
This is elemental guardian created by the tapestry. It is imbued with powerful magical abilities including the ability of flight. Up to three times a day it can affect someone it hits with banishment, something that you can be affected on while on this plane. If the target fails to resist they will be ejected from the plane.
Kranzer Kraken-Mouth

Kranzer takes a step to the side, snaps out his shortbow, and fires an arrow toward the phoenix. "Ha HA! Look'a that thing! Fire bird! Who would'a thought. How something like that breathes and flies is anybody's guess! Don't fire eat air?"

Kaya nods, "Well that is an interesting question Sir Dwarf. But unfortunately I think you are thinking more about the physics of such a creature and not about the magic that is behind the beast. That creature is a powerful elemental fire creature from a different plane. Due to the body being made mostly of fire, it is immune to a good number of things including is bleeding, paralysis, poison, stunning, critical hits, sneak attack, or flanking." She continues, pointing out a few other things of note, "But all is not lost, while it is obviously immune to fire damage, it is vulnerable to cold and I think two of us have spells or abilities that chill. Be wary though of your beard and any hair, the beast can set us afire with a mere touch."

Shutting her yapper as the beast actually attacks and it becomes clear it isn't pulling punches, Kaya slips her crossbow into her off-hand and steps back, hopefully out of range of the massive fiery arms. With a quick stance adjustment she points her finger towards the creature and says, "PEW!"
