My extracts were nothing but cure spells except the one I converted over to a heroism that never got used.

The Waking Rune

Agate I am happy for you to use that boon on a mindscape skill roll. Do you want to use it in place of that sense motive check perhaps? You can use the same skill repeatedly in these mindscape challenges.

Peridot thanks for clarifying.

Ahn I think you're right, will double check when I do the next combat round update.

If you want to let me, sure. It would be a +18 bonus to the check (+15 for the basic skill plus Agate's +3 for being in Osirion; the bonuses noted on the character sheet for ancient sites only apply if the History check is specifically about the ancient site).

"Where's Peridot?! In the pit? Tahonikepsu... can you see them... can you get them out?!", Ahn cries.

The Waking Rune

Agate, since I didn't fully answer your question about the boon before you rolled your dice, I am happy for you to apply the boon to the third die roll. The Scarab Sages' extra +3 is kind of borderline, but I'm going to allow it - this whole story is about a major part of the history of ancient Osirion).

Agate witnesses Sinuhotep's memories again - but this time the Scarab Sage scholar calls on her deep knowledge of the history of Osirion, and her distant but nonetheless real connection to the mystical Sage Jewels themselves. A blast of psychic energy dissipates the shade of Tahari and shatters the mindscape prison. "You are right, Agate. I made all those decisions, and whether Tahari prompted me or not I must own them and deal with the consequences. No doubt I shall pay in full for my crimes. But first, I will help rid this world of the scourge of Black Moon; perhaps in doing so I can begin to seek redemption."

Sinuhotep comes to his senses, as his Sage Jewel absorbs the mindscape entrance and the amethyst light around Tahari shatters.

Ahn I have adjusted hp totals to account for your Life Link with Frost. Also removed CON damage

"I can get down that pit, if you would have me rescue the Doctor" offers Tahonikepsu.

Tahari does not wait for the Diamond Sage to move, but flies straight for Ischell, heedless of the threats of the dragon's maw and the paladin's kama. Tahonikepsu tears at the necromancer's insubstantial form again.

Ischell, you get an AoO against Tahari. You then need to make a DC19 WIll save

Combat round 8

What happens next depends on Ischell's saving throw, so we'll wait for that.

Even though the AoO comes first, as a GM I always want my players to roll saves first- so that is what I will do here. The other question I have is... Pushing Assault can interrupt charges, could it interrupt this attack?

Will Save: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (5) + 11 = 16

As the witch rushes at Ischell, he swings his Kama desperately at the Tahari.

Kama, Sickened, Smite: 1d20 + 16 - 2 ⇒ (15) + 16 - 2 = 29
Damage, Smitex2: 1d8 + 26 ⇒ (6) + 26 = 32

From the map, I can not tell if Dhari is close enough to allow a reroll. As the crow flies Ischell is 25 ft, but with the wonder that is 3D combat in pathfinder I don't know if she is...

I have to say no to the reroll because your elevation means that you are more than 30' away from Dhiara. The same range limitation has been applied to Tahari for her potential spells whilst she's been engaging you in the air Ischell.

Ischell's kama rushes through Tahari, coming out the other side of her coated in vile ectoplasm. A hit, however Pushing Assault cannot work on an incorporeal; also you only double smite damage vs an undead on the first hit, not the first hit per round.

incorporeal trait wrote:
In fact, they can’t take any physical actions that would move or manipulate an opponent or its equipment, nor are they subject to such actions.

Tahari screams as she rushes Ischell, she does not stop as she reaches the Iroran - and then she is gone.

Tahari has possessed you using her ghostly Malevolence ability; you are under her control.

It is funny, I would have sworn the extra smite damage was per round and yet... it isn’t. Thanks for gently correcting. That would be 6 less damage from the smite- but I forgot the ‘flaming’ divine bond.

The Waking Rune

"She has possessed Ischell! Sinuhotep, can you do anything about it?" Tahonikepsu calls out as she squeezes down the conjured pit to reach Peridot.

Peridot, Tahonikepsu can get to you and pick you up, but doesn't have enough move/actions to also get out of the pit yet.

"I concur, but I cannot free him from her control. Ghostly possession is not a spell" the lich answers.

"An Anti-Magic Field would suppress the possession, or a simple Protection from Evil spell perhaps. But she'll need to be exorcised by ritual, and for that Ischell will need to be restrained for at least half an hour" Amenopheus advises.

There are surprisingly few ways to end a ghost's possession, it appears. As a Supernatural ability it is not subject to Dispel Magic.

Ahn heals his wounds whilst Athum surveys the field.

It's ok Ischell, you have 0 Lay on hands now. Tahari replaces your Intelligence, Wisdom, Charisma, level, class, base attack bonus, base save bonuses, alignment, and mental abilities. She doesn't get any of your spells or SLA's from the body, nor any additional attacks

Hopefully Ischell falls and then we can just have a bunch dogpile him, Frost will trigger Smite and ready an action to strike Tahari as she tries to flee the body

The Waking Rune

Frost is essentially correct about the nature of the possession effect.

Sinuhotep successfully dispels Ischell's flight, and the possessed paladin floats to the ground.

Agate I'll have to say no to entering the Onyx mindscape, because it is both within the well of evil which you cannot enter, and it is around a hard corner. Nowruz appears to have placed it within the wall, so I have moved it on the map to the nearest square that would make sense given the initial ritual setup (ie closer not further away from the ritual centre). You still have your actions.

stunning strike (deal melee damage and stun the target for 1 round [Fort DC 20 negates stun]... 10 Magic Bludgeoning. If she can she'd do Non-lethal, but probably can't and still get the stun.

The Waking Rune

Dhiara can do non-lethal - it's not called out on her sheet but I'll allow it, seeing as she's a monk and it's an unarmed strike. Monks don't need to do lethal damage to use Stunning Fist, so that's OK too.

Dhiara comes for Ischell/Tahari - and the possessed monk swings his kama at his 'sensei'!

AoO vs Dhiara, non-proficient: 1d20 + 9 - 4 ⇒ (5) + 9 - 4 = 10damage: 1d8 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14 Divine Bond does not function now.

Clearly, Ischell/Tahari lacks any skill with such weaponry.

Dhiara strikes...

Fort vs Stun: 1d20 + 9 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 9 + 1 + 2 = 20
Fort vs Stun: 1d20 + 9 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 9 + 1 + 2 = 14 Yup, she gets to roll twice. Powers.

Ischell/Tahari takes the blow, and laughs: "Oh, what a fine body! Young and strong! It will be such a pleasure to watch it decay and corrupt. I shall use it to cultivate a new disease!"

Combat round 9

Scarab Sages

F Dwarf Wizard 10

Trapped between the well of evil and the poisonous cloud, unable to reach the Sage Jewel, Agate watches the battle, preparing to act if she sees an opening.

Readied action: Lightning Bolt if Tahari emerges and she can get a clear shot.

The Waking Rune

Agate prepares a spell, hoping for an opportunity to attack the ghostly necromancer rather than Ischell.

Tahari/Ischell steps back from Dhiara, and selects a target. She gestures casting now requires verbal and somatic components again, and another black ray is aimed at Ahn.

spellcraft DC19:
An Enervation spell.

ranged touch attack vs Ahn: 1d20 + 4 + 2 - 1 - 1 ⇒ (8) + 4 + 2 - 1 - 1 = 12

The ray just misses! Thanks to the nimbus, or Dhiara's Guardian ability

"Curse you all!" hisses Tahari/Ischell, and she casts again.

Spellcraft DC18:
Vampiric touch

Her hand is wreathed in darkness, and she uses her superior reach to try to touch Dhiara with it.

touch vs Dhiara: 1d20 + 4 + 6 - 1 ⇒ (2) + 4 + 6 - 1 = 11

The Topaz sage easily avoids Tahari/Ischell's clumsy swipe, though the possessed paladin's hand remains surrounded in the dark energy.

"Someone have a great idea here? I think we need to put him down, even if it kills him, to get her out... we can't let her just keep pounding us!"

I think Frost never went...

Waiting on Ahn's turn for Frost clarification... and any response to the above!

Question: Is Ischell considered Tahari with regard to active smite evil?

Note: Ahn should be 81/83 (not 83/83), From the prior turn, Ahn was at 56 - 5 (Life link Frost) + 30 (LOH)... looks like Frost DID gain the 5

Athum uses the want on himself while moving around the pillar to get closer to the Spinal Sage Jewel. "We may need these other jewels to fully get rid of the ghost's influence, not just the existing sages," he says outloud, mostly to himself.

The Waking Rune

Sorry Frost, I interpreted your ooc post above as your actions; delaying you seems to work just fine though. Dhiara effectively did the same as Frost, posting order affects what kind of AoO comes at you, one of you faces the kama and the other the spell attack. Moved you into melee range now.

Frost advances, and Ischell/Tahari tries to land her touch spell as Frost closes to melee range.

AoO vs Frost, touch: 1d20 + 4 + 6 - 1 ⇒ (19) + 4 + 6 - 1 = 28
damage: 4d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 5, 5) = 18

I will rule that Smite Evil does work on Ischell/Tahari - it's effectively Tahari's soul that's in control, and she is Eeeeevil.

Ischell/Tahari brushes against Frost with her energy-wreathed hand. Frost withers, and Tahari laughs. The dark energy is gone, its purpose served.

Squeezing is fine, Athum. Athum heals and repositions next to the Spinel Jewel mindscape entrance.

Frost gains 5 hp, Ahn loses 5 hp

Ahn yells, "In a few seconds, I switch to deadly force... we need to end this... do what you can now!

Then he snaps his wrist, releasing a small vial into his hand from his second spring-loaded sheath. Popping the cork, he drinks the contents of a fly potion.

He then rises up into the air, bow at the ready, landing on the raised platform.

”Force this evil from the body of our friend, and smite it as it arises! First we must render the body immobile, then as she leaves she has her soul crushed by blade - or ripped out and destroyed via magic”

I’m figuring that the spirit needs to release before it can attempt another possession, hence I’m standing in close to pop if as it begins to leave

The Waking Rune

"Yes. Return the Emerald Sage to us!" Tahonikepsu scrambes up out of the pit with Peridot

Peridot and Torch:

A harried warrior bearing an illuminated wayfinder runs across a chasm alongside a woman in leather armour, and an emerald spectre trails behind them. "Asha! The entrance! Run!" The warrior urges the other Pathfinder toward the entrance just before the apparition mutters a terrible curse that engulfs him in flames. A flask of holy water strikes the spectre from behind as the woman returns and tries to carry the man to safety, shoving him toward the entrance as the spirit’s rage collapses part of the ceiling onto her, trapping her beneath rubble. "Asha!" The man cries, but the woman is still and quiet. The man staggers outside into a sandstorm, terribly burned and alone. He pulls out a barely intact scroll and reads the incantation, struggling to speak, then forces out a message for the spell to carry: “It’s Ven. Everyone’s dead. I’m just west of the site. Send an extraction and recovery team. Please hurry.” He waits in the desert, staring down at his wayfinder. No response comes.

Peridot you can offer Torch aid, console him, or lead him to safety by using Diplomacy, Heal, Sense Motive or Survival. Other creative skill uses may be allowed. Bonuses for roleplay! You get 3 checks as a full round action.

Amenopheus blasts Ischell/Tahari. Nimbus doesn't say 'weapon damage rolls', just 'damage rolls', so I'll allow it for spell damage too.

Peridot just sighs deeply and instinctively starts tending to his wounds.

"You know Torch. A lot of people are confused by you but you know what. I know how you feel. I know how it feels to betrayed like this," they say pointing at the cave.

" It's so easy to lose sight of it isn't it. The anger clouds any semblance of rational thought making it seem like burning it all down is the best way to go. But just remember your actions will hurt others like your friends," they say while tightening a bandage.

"I guess what I'm trying to say is that you don't have to do this alone. I don't have to be your enemy. Though we probably should talk about this some other time given the circumstances. No need to stop the Decimverate if we can't stop the apocalypse here ," they say laughing out loud.

The Waking Rune

In Torch's Mindscape...

Grandmaster Torch looks up at Peridot. He turns towards the ruins. He seems to have difficulty seeing Peridot properly, and solemnly swears, “You had such promise, Asha. I feel that I failed you, but the Ten failed us both and continue to fail our comrades. One of those failures I must live with; for the other I can avenge us and make things right—make it right for everyone.”

The mindscape fades away, the entrance swallowed up by the Emerald Jewel in Torch's hand.

"Hey. There ought to be more like you, Doc. Crying shame that there aren't. Now, let's do this thing shall we?"

You're rocking some hefty bonuses Peridot, Torch likes Pathfinders who save other Pathfinders.
