GM Dak |

So, I’m pretty sure I’m going to be going with a bard at this point, mostly a support and battlefield control character.
With that I think we currently have:
Bard (Leader)
Anti Paladin? (Leader)
Rogue?
Oracle? (Leader)
Phoenix and Tazo (if joining) haven’t specified one way or the other.

Tazo |

As an update, I've decided I'm not going to join this game immediately, but may join in later. I've spoken with Thron to confirm the gameplan. I'll make sure anything I bring does not step on too many toes, but seems like you already have the beginnings of a balanced party of 5.
If I do join, I may end up going Leader, but I don't promise to bring a high-Charisma leader!

Litejedi |

If there’s no other casters but Dak, I think I’d have to go with a prepared caster. Thanks for making the list!
Thron, how would craft wondrous item work with respect to the cost of items that I/we own? Since we’re not directly starting at 7, should we let the crafting play out organically or should I assume there will end up with just a % discount? I don’t think it’d be fair for us to have literally everything at half price for one character having one feat, but I haven’t GMd with item crafting PCs.
Edit: if I chose something with the nobility domain, how would we resolve that?

DM Thron |

Here is how I handle crafting feats in my games, be it as a DM or self imposing it on myself as a player:
If you invest in the feat, you personally get to reap all the benefits. If you sink the downtime into it, you can make items at crafting cost for yourself.
However, the best you can do for others in the group is a 25% discount if you are willing to make an item for them that they fund. And even then, the excess coin generated above crafting cost does NOT go directly into your pocket for furthering your own power. Instead, it goes into a “Downtime Activities” pool for you, the crafter. You can use said pool to further your downtime programs, including any combination of the following:
1) Establish income for Living Expenses by:
A) Buy/Build Businesses
B) Buy/Hire Teams
2) Donate the coin into your kingdom BP pool
3) Buy/Craft Equipment for Cohorts/Followers/Teams
Basically, anything that doesn’t boost your direct combat power, but can elevate your power in other, indirect ways.
Example:
Drask goes to Mokhasi and asks him to craft him a Belt of Giant Strength +4. Mokhasi is kind and helpful, and agrees to do so at his “Friends and Family Pricing” discount. Instead of 16,000 gp, it’ll cost Drask 12,000 gp.
8,000 of that goes to crafting materials. The other 4,000 goes to Mokhasi’s Downtime Pool.
He could use that coin to buy materials for his kingdom, netting himself 1 BP.
Although, he has been having problems with bandits in the Narlmarches. They have been killing all messengers attempting to negotiate with them, so he has relented that violence is the only solution. He hires 12 teams of Elite Soldiers to hunt them down and route them. The call to arms has resulted in 60 men being trained, equipped, and organized over the course of the month who now serve the kingdom directly as their job.
He is left with 40 gp in his Downtime Pool for use later. Each month, the Elite Soldiers provide enough security to the kingdom to improve trade and secure borders, resulting in boosted national revenue (team income) of 246 gp per month directly to his Downtime Pool (Take 10 + 6/team (+72) = 82/10 = 8.2 gp per day x 30 days = 246 gp per month).
Make sense? Feel free to ask questions!

name: Something Surtova (names are hard)
reference image: https://nabetsezitro.com/projects/ox2R4?album_id=53563
race: human
class: sylvan trickster rogue
disadvantage: fey-taken
kingmaker trait: either brigand or noble born Surtova
At five, she disappeared for a week. One moment in her room playing with dolls. The next simply gone. The nanny was screamed at, questioned, even beaten but knew nothing. The old guard, her father kept on hand, searched high and far. Nothing again.
Then she came back. Poof. Her mother had just left her child's room, just seconds ago. Then whimpered cries of her daughter and a scream for her mommy where the lady had just been.
The girl had not one wound, no defilement of any kind, but cried straight for days. Wouldn't say a word about where she had gone. And no one pushed her, it stank of Fey or worse. "The less one knows the better", her father said to all, along with a "Speak of This to No One!" command
The little one was never the same. A bright engaging child before, apple of her parent's eye, but afterward quiet as a mouse, always watching you as if waiting for something. Oh she could still be that bright engaging child when she wanted, but those around her soon recognized it as a mask. The patient watcher was truth, smiles and giggles a lie.
Even with that, it would have been swept away, ignored. If it wasn't for the horns. Coal black nubs at first, swiftly growing and twisting to points swooping back against her red gold hair. Her parents were Important Members of the Community, offshoots of a Brevoy lineage, even if they were the only ones that recognized it. Having a fey child was one thing, looking like a tiefling was quiet another.
They used files to grind down the abominations. Servants held her down, as she screamed and begged through the pain. Twice a week since the damned things grew like weeds.
At eight she ran away. Probably to the relief of her tormentors. The old guard followed. She faced him with a dagger in hand and fire in her eyes "I WILL NOT GO BACK" she hissed. "Why would you?" was his simple answer.
He saw nothing wrong with her changes. Giggles and dolls had been replaced with observation and thought. Fey touched meant something, a power of a kind, and something her parents would never understand. He said all that but in truth, he simple could not bare the child to suffer anymore. Better to face the harsh world than the horrors of that household.
He kept from becoming a monster, though he taught her plenty of monstrous things. He had been a bandit before a soldier, and that life was the easiest to fit into with horns and no prospects. He taught her locks and pockets, and where to stab a person to make sure they never rise again.
Now she is grown, eighteen. Watchful still, charming when she needs. She can file her own horns down if she needs to fit, but more often than not leaves them for all to see.
-------
I made her as a tiefling at first, but turned her human at the core requirement. I kept the horns, cause the picture had them and the story was better with them. Since she can file them down with an evenings effort, pile her hair on her head, wear hats, and eventually magically disguise them, they are fluff more than mechanics. If that is okay?

John Gs |

During the missing phase. Which doesn't fit tiefling anymore. As always a story morphs in the telling. The picture came first. The story started as a tiefling and the grinding of the horns since they first popped out. And the leaving/exile once her eyes went dark (deathwatch as a racial alternative).
But I like the fey-taken aspect, especially in kingmaker.

Orri Lebeda |

Ok, other than equipment I think I have my bard all set, meet Orri Lebeda.

CampinCarl9127 |

I always find the crunch faster and easier to complete than the fluff, so meet the crunch for my character, here (link will break after I give him a name).

![]() |

@CampingCarl Yeah often times I build out the crunch before I hammer out the fluff too.
Also, as a side note, I'm sure you all have seen but in case you haven't... Kingmaker Hardcover

DM Thron |

Okay, gonna take a little bit here to look over the backgrounds presented so far, but I do want to make one thing clear regarding the Noble Houses of Brevoy: they aren't the massive institutions most people play them as. They are more akin to small but powerful and influential noble houses who are the land owners in historical fiefdoms. So unless you make a direct heir to one of the larger houses (none of you have so far), you will likely be the child to one of the younger siblings of the "Head" family, as you will see in my post to each of you upcoming.
I'm not going to spoiler these, as you guys are from these very noble houses, and as such most definitely know of one another, or at least of the rumors associated with your names. Even a commoner would likely have heard of the various noble families and their lineages, if for nothing more than gossip and the celebrity of it all. Whether you go by an alias to hide your identity later, though, is up to you...
John Gs/Sapher - _______ Surtova - Fey-Abducted and altered...in ways...some of which I am going to surprise you with later. Based on your posted background above, I think Brigand is a better fit for you. It seems like you are trying to remain distant from your familial ties to House Surtova, so they won't benefit you in any way, so I think that the Brigand trait is the best way to go. Though, the Noble lineage may come back to bite you in the posterior later...
Your aunt and uncle are King Noleski Surtova and Lady Natala Surtova, his sister. Your father was the youngest of the trio, and was set up with an arranged marriage with a Lady of House Medvyed, though
Dakcenturi/GM Dak - Orri Lebeda - I'm going to go with your father was the younger brother to the previous Lord Lebeda, patriarch of the family. With his death, the family now awaits his son Lander to come of age to take the helm of the family by birthright. Your father's debts were a bit of a black mark on the families prestige, especially with them trying to marry off Elanna to King Noleski Surtova. They will have bought out the debt, and in so doing, essentially adopted your half sister.
Rising Phoenix/Esrisi - Lissal Lebeda - Orri's half-sister. Are you older or younger? Make sure to read Orri's entry just above to get the low down on where you found yourself after your father's death. Elanna was always very passive-aggressive with you, but Lander, in his childlike innocence, always was very nice to you and loved playing with you when you would. How do foresee interactions with your bastard brother going?
Still need proper backgrounds from CampinCarl/Drask and LiteJedi/Mokhasi to weigh on with them on, though I have spoken to each of them separately either through PM or on roll20 a bit. But I would love to see a formal background for me to work with and incorporate into the game.

CampinCarl9127 |

I'm in the brainstorming process, trying to piece together a character from some of the better villains in fantasy and tyrants in real life, but also not wanting to make a copy and bring something new to the table. I think the best idea I have right now is somebody who has a only slightly warped mentality based on their personal experience, similar to Thanos from the MCU or Saint Dane from the Pendragon series, but who builds his frame of power similar to Mao Zedong. I really want to nail down an ideology for him, which will be heavily intertwined with his background, and from that a personality should arise naturally.
Definitely open to feedback and ideas. I'm very much in the land of concepts right now.

Orri Lebeda |

Sounds good to me. Phoenix and I spoke a bit in PMs, not sure what he has hashed out but I think Lissal (Phoenix if you want a different name I can adjust my background, just pulled that out of thin air) is Orri's older sister. Her mother wasn't around when Orri came about so not sure what happened there. I could see their relationship going either way, would just depend on how Phoenix plans to play Lissal.

Chrysa Surtova |

Okay, here is what I have. I did go with tiefling, but will change back to human without a problem or complaint. Alternate racial traits of scaly skin representing fey's resistance to damage and soul seer since it is sufficiently creepy. Lots of gear since she got to start with an extra 100. Oh, she did craft alchemy on her five vials of acid, but can undo that as well. Taking 10 she is at 17 and the dc for acid is 15.

Litejedi |

Based on what Thron has told me via PM, I’m almost certainly going to pick a character who is a member of house Medvyed. I will be aiming for a city/mini-barony that serves as a safe haven for fey that by choice or circumstance are stuck on the material plane (while also trying to be generally accepting to everyone). She will increasingly become fey-like as the game goes on, but I’d prefer to avoid explaining how, now. I’ve got the beginnings of the way she’ll be running things, as well as the general sense of her cohort. The classes are a bit more difficult to finalize, but I’ve almost got a build ready to go.
She will have craft wondrous, so look at the way Thron explained above for planning your budgeting.
Still figuring how this works with everyone else’s backstory, maybe we can work through it?

Chrysa Surtova |

As a fey soaked character, Chrya is happy with your choice of barony. :)

Orri Lebeda |

Well, I think us working together is going to be a simple mater of us heading the call to clean up/settle the stolen lands and with us all (so far) being from noble houses it would make sense for us to throw our lot in together to start, or maybe we are the first to show up and just get assigned together.
Also, in Discord it was mentioned we are going to start at Level 2 instead of 1? Just want to make sure that is the case and that everyone is aware.

Chrysa Surtova |

Chrysa could have known Orri and your sister from before she left her family. From various functions where young children would have been allowed to attend. I'll bump her age a couple of years, so they are not that far apart.

CampinCarl9127 |

I've been back and forth to the drawing board a hundred times and really can't nail down a concept I think I would like. That combined with my increasing workload leads me to the conclusion I think I should back out. I don't think I'll be able to bring my normal quality of writing to this game and since I've played through most of Kingmaker before there wouldn't be much exploration in it for me either. Apologies for taking so long to make this decision.

Litejedi |

I’ve put a lot of thought into my stuff, and I mentally committed to it, so I’m happy to try.
But as I said, almost all of the other APs would work for me, too.
Edit: my wife could be talked into joining. She’s not a newbie to PnP RPGs but she is to PbP ones. I don’t think she’d want to do kingdom management, but otherwise that’s an option.

Orri Lebeda |

Well, while it sticks to miss out on some people, nothing says they couldn't join in later. We may need to adjust party composition though as right now we have
Me: Bard - Support
John: Rogue - Melee
Phoenix: Swashbuckler?
Jedi: Prepared Caster?
So we are a little light on healing and front line. If we did go ahead I could switch things up a bit and go Warpriest, which I haven't tried out yet.
I'm ok either way though if we want to swap up APs or wait a bit. I'm flexible :D

Chrysa Surtova |

Thron, you by far have the most work to do in all this sir, so if you are still excited about making a go for it, let do it. If you are a bit deflated and need some time, we can wait.
Others can join later. LiteJedi's significant other can join in and see if she likes pbp. Anything really.
If we deduct a bit of our starting funds, we can have Orri start with a wand of cure light wounds. I think that will get us through a few initial levels of healing to allow you stay what you want to play, Dak.
Overall I just stating, I'm still here and happy to play whatever you throw at us. Unless it is mind controlling tofu monsters... that would be going too far :)

Chrysa Surtova |

Chrysa will probably take a level or two in Arcanist as well, if I hadn't mentioned it. I thought dimensional slide would be lovely for flanking.

Chrysa Surtova |

My character can have a third. It won't be great cause of the 12 charisma, but it will act as a buffer/foil between the other two, and would be fun. Also if either of our wayward players find inspiration or time, they can join in and take over. Chrysa is secretive and manipulative enough that the whole plan could have been to set up a puppet dictator or that the other player was in the shadows and she was their agent the entire time. Either or.
Also that give the neutral kingdom 2 players, and if Lite's wife joins the good kingdom has two, and the evil won't have a problem being ganged up on.

Litejedi |

So I’m planning on Druid and my character needs to get knowledge (all) as a class skills. There are a lot of ways to get this with multiclassing, and I settled on a general plan for one if it comes to that. The original race plan was for a half elf - but I can save myself on multiclassing by just doing human and taking the comprehensive education alternate racial.
Basically, what does everyone think about casters multiclassing? I wouldn’t lose caster levels, because I’m accounting for that, but I would lose the progression. As I’m the only one planning on doing a 9-caster, do you think It'd hurt us too much?

Sophiel Medvyed |

Please take a look at Sophie and let me know what you all think. Happy to tweak those skald spells if anyone wants, for example.
