Ok, moving things along.
The vile white maggots are now so much mush (50 xp per pc) (I'm liking the rebound by the way!)
The round pit in the middle of the floor leads down, via a line of metal rungs in the side.
Knowledge: survival DC15
often and quite recently, both to ascend and to descend.
Gronck |
Once Gronck is sure that Kimeon and Jack have taken care of the maggots he moves slowly over to the well, searching the ground has he does so. After he's made a circuit of the well he moves back towards the others.
"It be lookin like many peeples be goin up an down dat hole"

Kimeon Rake |
Specifically, Kimeon searches the rungs and rocks around the well. He also looks at several stains on the floor.
Can I get an idea what kind of creature uses the well? An assortment? A small pack of goblins? A horde of them spilling out and retreating back?

Jack Ketch |
Jack stays back, toward the wall, keeping his eye on the entrance they came in by, just in case anything decides to try and sneak up on them. After all, it's what HE'D do.

There appears to be nothing of any note within the large chamber. The wall of the well / pit is raised about 1' above the cave floor. The well seems to drop down for about 30 - 40'. You can all see flickering torchlight from below, although it appears to be coming from a tunnel down at the bottom that heads off South. The rungs of the iron ladder that drops down look quite sturdy, but are obviously also quite old.

Kimeon spits on one of the stains and rubs the reult with his fingers.
"Gritty, and rotten smelling," he says in a low voice. He turns to Gronk, "Want to know why goblins have such foul dispositions? Imagine that your feces have the consistency of dry sand."
He peers over the well for a few more seconds. "Goblins need no light to see. Strange that they would have torches below."
He looks up at Amelia and wipes his fingers against the wellstone. "Does invading a goblin camp get us any closer to our goals here?"

He looks up at Amelia and wipes his fingers against the wellstone. "Does invading a goblin camp get us any closer to our goals here?"
To Kimeon:
"While a goblin encampment was not part of the original situation, we may need to move through their area to continue into the mountain. Protected areas usually have items of value or secrets, both of which would appeal to me, but I would say to investigate the other side of the tunnel and ascertain if this is the only way to go. If not, then the other way may be avoiding issues and we still find secrets, I mean to say we further our goals here to find what has been happening.
Traps are what such creatures are known for, I am not the type to find them, I could find anything magical along the way, traps or otherwise."
OOC XP awaits but not necessarily what Amelia would do

Kimeon Rake |
Kimeon slowly tangles his ankles into the ladder rungs and swings toward the lower lip of the well. He tucks his hair into his shirt collar in a rapid, practiced move, and angles his forehead to peer into the tunnel below. With his free hand, he waves off Gronk and holds up a single finger....

and carvings, seem very old. There are two exits from this chamber; a flight of stairs on the west wall and two open passages to the north and south.
There are three vicious-looking dogs at the south-western
corner of the chamber, tied to the wall with chains attached
to their leather collars. They furiously snarl and nip at each other.
They haven't spotted you.
Kimeon Rake |
Kimeon makes his way up the well and back to his party.
"There are dogs chained together. Do we have a way to put them down quietly? Once they get a whiff, I have no doubt they will let everyone know we're here.
"Once we drug them or put them to sleep, I can sneak over and silence them for good. Nasty-looking dogs, too. Goblins' best friend."
Amelia Delante |
I have no such instruments available. However, I would suggest using some food; if one could toss some at or on the goblins that should be down there somewhere, or on the dogs themselves, they would eat whatever they landed on, thereby saving us the trouble and creating a distraction for other elements of the plan being produced now.
I have some rations I could give for such an endeavor.
Kimeon Rake |
Kimeon notes the shrugs and blank stares from his party. "Well, I can try to be quiet, and maybe if one of us is an ambush fighter, we can do them together, but I can't guarantee we won't be swarmed by goblins if the dogs notice us."
He thinks for a second. "We don't have any fresh meat, but if we kill one, maybe the other two will fight over the body while we make a plan."
Gronck |
It's obvious that Gronck his deep in thought and struggling to come to a decision but he eventually does. He reaches in to one of the pouches on his belt and proffers a slightly smelly slab of raw meat to Kimeon.
"Dis were bein me food but if ye can be usin it to get de dogs den it be good if you be havin it..."
His voice trails off has he realises that he is probably rambling slightly.
Kimeon Rake |
Kimeon smiles and accept the meat from Gronk. "Maybe this will do the trick, then." He takes out a length of silk rope and ties it around the center of the cut a few times. Biting down on the end of the rope, he hands the meat to Gronk and whispers "Not til I ask for it."
Hoping that Gronk understands, he crawls down the ladder again and prepares an arm's stretch of rope. Eying the dogs carefully, he pulls the rope taught and nods to Gronk.
When the slab of meat falls freely down the center of the well, the halfling yanks the rope with one hands and releases the other link with the other. The meat changes direction as it clears the bottom of the well, flying toward the dogs and landing at their feet.
Ranged attack roll (DC 10?) (1d20+5=14)
Kimeon holds the rope, prepared to lure the dogs closer and encourage them to fight. While he waits for the to wake up, he slowly hangs a satchel over the ladder rung and pulls out a smooth stone with a sharpened edge.
