Zeria slams the sword into the kobold's body and begins to pray softly. She is exhausted, bleeding bruised and battered. She asks for forgiveness for herself and for these kobolds. She doesn't see why they resorted to such vile tactics but prays that the lost sould find solace in the afterlife.
Niu
As the battle ends, Niu finally lets his fears fall away. In the heat of the moment, he hadn't realized how tense his muscles had become.
Sensing the end of violence, Neb-en-toti crawls out of his satchel and perches on Niu's shoulder surveying the scene.
"Is that it, Neb-en-toti? Is that the end? What is it that I was supposed to learn here?"
Heading over to the fallen king's corpse, Niu scans it for magic and begins searching it for possessions, setting everything he finds out on the floor.
When that is done, he will take out the adamantine hammer and go around the room tapping on the floor and walls, searching for hollow places and hidden doors.
I'll take 20 searching this room, if allowed
Igar The Terrible
His possessions include the +2 adamantine battleaxe, a runed stone in his eyesocket, a burnished bronze crown of heirloom appearance and an oversized red and gold satin cloak with a crude, silly looking painting of a gold dragon on the back (though now the dragon is missing scales and appears undead).
Reminder, there is a closed undamaged sarcophagus in this room as well.
You detect a strong auras emanating from the stone and the crown. DC 32 spellcraft to determine the stone's properties, DC 27 for the crown (separate rolls).
Niu
Spellcraft(stone): 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (9) + 12 = 21
Spellcraft(crown): 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (1) + 12 = 13
Not surprised in the slightest.
While waiting for Ranok to see if he can determine the items' properties, Niu fishes a scroll of Identify from his haversack.
"I'm a little hesitant to search the sarcophagus, after the last time...."
Ranok
Ranok sits down after he sees Merlokrep fall. Wiping sweat and blood from his face, he pulls out his wand of cure light wounds as Khonsu likes his wounds next to Ranok.
"Don't touch that sarcophagus! If something nasty were to jump out of that, we would all be dead."
After touching himself and Khonsu with a few hits of clw, Ranok will look over the room.
Ranok: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Ranok: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Ranok: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Ranok: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Ranok: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Khonsu: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
"Wasn't there a second lumber jack fella in here? I thought that we saved one?
He will then look over the two items.
spellcraft: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
spellcraft: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22
Also GM Igar, I think that I already asked this, but your conditions have me at a negative level. If I am at a negative level, was there a save for that? I get to reroll one failed save a day if there was indeed one. Sorry if you already answered this for me.
Ranok
"Well, that's something. One man gets to return home to his family."
Ranok shakes his head sadly, than catches a flash of light in his eyes.
"That axe. I think I'd like to have it. Lady Ziera, the undead bane sword certainly belongs in your hands."
Lady Ziera Wyvernrose
Ziera raises and looks over at the Sarcophagus."Seems fair I do not often fight with an Axe, besides I think you could use it better then I. And Festia can have my old sword, I would hate to let it go to waste" She says before she steps forward and focuses her innate ability to detect evil on the Sarcophagus.Detect Evil
Niu
"There you are. It should be safe to open. Rhen, can you work that lock?
I'm sure the Prince would be pleased that we have cleansed his tomb and want us to use whatever relics remain to continue to combat the defilers."
Rhen Vemsa
Trap spotting: 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 9 + 2 = 19
Rhen looks the Sarcophagus over for any traps before attempting the lock.
Lock picking: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (16) + 16 = 32
Rhen doesn't bother with the corpse of the no dead again king, not wanting to feel the sting of knowing he had a hand in all this happening.
Niu
Naturally, I already used my Dispel Magic
"If we come back tomorrow, I should be able to bypass the magic. Alternatively, we have two keys. Mine is a little less damaging."
Niu produces the adamantine hammer and moves to start breaking a hole large enough to fit a head through to see inside of the sarcophagus.
Niu
Setting all of the items out on the floor, Niu uses his scroll of Identify.
Spellcraft(Stone): 1d20 + 12 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 12 + 10 = 39
Spellcraft(Crown): 1d20 + 12 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 12 + 10 = 24
Spellcraft(Scepter): 1d20 + 12 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 12 + 10 = 42
Spellcraft(Tablet): 1d20 + 12 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 12 + 10 = 39
Igar The Terrible
The rules are not allowing that.
Retry? When using detect magic or identify to learn the properties of magic items, you can only attempt to ascertain the properties of an individual item once per day. Additional attempts reveal the same results. (I would have waived over that since you had the scroll, but..)
There is something else preventing this as well. It is an artifact.
Niu
Ok. I had thought that using Identify would allow a second chance over what Detect Magic allowed. That's fine, I'll feed my second scroll to Neb-en-toti so that I can prepare it tomorrow.
Niu
I never noticed that sentence in Identify... That is so random.
Why can you interpret the properties of an artifact with a cantrip, but not with a 1st level spell?
Back to IC posts... :)
Niu
Niu looks up from the items and smiles. "This scepter will help make my spells stronger. I don't have access to many spells it will benefit, but perhaps I can make an effort to learn some more.
The stone resists any attempt to learn more. We may need to employ outside assistance to determine its properties. It seems very important, and could possibly be linked to how Merlokrep was able to reanimate.
As for this tablet... Zelfin Cova. It sounds like a name. Perhaps a person? A place? It would most obviously be the name of the prince in this sarcophagus, but then why place the tablet inside?"
Niu shrugs. Standing, he places the stone, crown, rod, and tablet into his haversack.
"Shall we return to town with Mr. Teedum, now? I am anxious to see if we can be healed of the damage we took during this adventure."
Flipping the hammer over, he hands it out to Payday. "As promised. It did turn out to be useful after all, so thank you."
Pay Day aka Boss Payden Teedum
Boss takes the hammer and stows it away. "Yep."
Once you are outside, boss walks over to Ranok. He looks at the kobolds and back at Ranok before spitting some chaw right beside Ranok's boot. He leans into the orc's face, almost touching it. "We's almost done with the kobold problem. I know yeez got some hankerin for 'em. Go on ahead, I'll do what gotta be done an catch up to yeh." He remains nose to nose with Ranok, waiting for his response.
Ranok
Having forgotten about Teedum and his foul nature temporarily, Ranok gives a moment's pause. He continues past Teedum in the direction Teedum indicated before answering, making sure that his new axe is secure and still holding his greatsword.
"No need. The undead kobolds, and those with them, are all destroyed. These pose no threat and and may go on their way. You can say that you were successful in watching us save your town. Your part is done."
Ranok
"You don't have to tell Mr. Kreed anything. I'm sure that we will want to speak directly to him about our reward and the good job that we, not you, did for his community. Oh, and yell or spit at me again Teedum..." and I might be forced to roll a 2 or 3 on a d20, lol.

@ Eadoo and Kib
"Boys, You can't come back to town with us. The townsfolk would have your heads, much like Teedum would like to. The way I see it you have two options. You could both run off and live a nice quiet, peaceful life. Or you could join be and Khonsu here. You could mind our camp, hunt and gather, do some light scouting for us and the like. I'm not sure where I'll be heading next, but you can bet there will be some action. I'm not sure if I'll be hanging around with these other guys more or not. If so, they would need to be okay with you too. Give it a think and let me know your plans. But you'd better hurry."
