Atium wanders into the brick walkway as he watches Aishe try to climb the hedges. Behind Atium, as he approaches the statue slowly animates! It intones words in Elven as it steps forward, brandishing its dagger.
Dagger vs Atium AC 18: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26

The dagger stabs down between Atium's shoulder blades as he begins to bleed profusely from the injury.
This is a graven guardian. Graven guardians are human-sized constructs of clay, stone, wood, or similar materials, crafted and painted to resemble a deity or a deity's favored servants. When not in motion, a graven guardian appears identical to a temple or crypt's statue, but while active, graven guardians look extremely lifelike.
Graven guardians are inexorably tied to a specific deity's faith. While unintelligent and thus lacking any real personality, a graven guardian has the ability to recognize fellow worshipers or minions of its deity and does not treat them as enemies unless they first attack. This recognition does not extend so far as to allow these worshipers (or those cunningly disguised as worshipers) to give a graven guardian new orders. As with all constructs, a graven guardian follows only the orders of its creator.

Do Elves have bawdy words? Words that describe how long or short a man's penis is?
Hazza to Master Undar.
Vanyan’s face scrunches up as he tries to parse Atium’s recent shoutings. Vanyan slightly turns into the direction of Atium, and almost imperceptibly raises an eyebrow. The crude words weren't directed at him, so he'll ignore them.. but he has his own thoughts about burly men who are desperately afraid of appearing even the least bit effeminate. Personally, he believes Elven is quite a pleasant and melodic language. Atium likely just hasn't had time or opportunity to travel much outside his frozen tundra and to refine his tastes, he figures.
So maybe Atium is just Undar-trained in the area of masculinity. Or maybe its inconsistent, and he’s been poorly spotty-trained.
Vanyan doesn’t know but is happy to have the man on his side, on this purgatory-ish half-dead side of things. Rather than the hammer-side of things.
”Don’t worry about using all the wand. We’ll find a way to muddle through this. Somehow,” Vanyan says. ”And don’t worry about your dad. I’m sure he’s proud of you. If not, when we get back, we’ll go tell him so he knows.”

Tessenarin |

Tessenarin looks at Atium for a minute, opens his mouth, then stops before he says anything.
"Someone should take this magic dagger. It seems the best thing to do. Also, I still have some healing magic left should we need it. It is probably best to continue."

After a small bit of healing the group continues through the path in the hedges. Several willow trees cluster here, many with nests built in them. Fallen leaves and baubles such as bracelets litter the ground. To the northwest, the hedge opens into a larger arbor with more trees. A well-crafted opening in the hedge with a brick walk leads south, while a torn section of hedge leads west.
The trees are roosts for many kinds of birds, predominantly jackdaws and magpies. The birds constantly steal from travelers and grave sites, bringing their finds back here to decorate their nests.
While the path continues around you notice a small hole made recently in the hedge, that doesn't look to have been repaired yet. Red arrow.

Do you go after them?

Vanyan Kaleseder |

"Hmmm, everything seems quiet, possibly a little too quiet...", Vanyan points out to the others. "And look — treasure in the trees! Is that treasure?"
He hangs back, casting Detect Magic, looking for auras.
Does Vanyan think he can reach the items with his longspear? How high up are they?

![]() |

Vanyan looks around and feels he could reach the nests and items in the branches to knock them down with his longspear. Scanning the tree's contents a few of the items are indeed magical. Concentrating a bit longer Vanyan narrows it down to the ring, scroll, and gem in fact.

He waits to see how Tess’s actions play out. Good play, Tess.

Tessenarin |

Let's let Vinas try this one. I am not keen on traps made by wizards. Paper is a thing of those WoundWorld Demons.
"Not at all, Atium. Paper is for books, which is how we have knowledge. Books allow us to write down history and keep information."

Vinas uth Antimanes |

Vinas nods, and proffers his hand for the spear. He'll then try to hook them with a prayer to Iomedae.

![]() |

Tessenarin sends out an unseen, hand that slowly begins lifting coins from the nests and branches, one at a time. The task takes several minutes as it takes all of Tessenarin's concentration and he is only able to grab a single coin at a time. In total 45 gold coins are gathered.
Seeing no traps go off or anything animating to life Vinas hooks the ring and pulls it down from the tree's branches. Using the end of the spear he knocks down a nest as a pair of magpie's fly off as the gem and scroll fall free for the taking.
