Any clue on 1st or 4th level? If it is 1st then we are running straight low tier. If it 4th then the game is high-tier with the 4 player adjustment.

What would you advise would make for a better experience for the table GM?

The selection of pregenerated characters might affect the APL. In some cases, there is one pregenerated character level that is clearly more fitting to the PCs’ levels, such as when all or most of the PCs fall in the same subtier. In corner cases, the GM should choose the level of pregenerated characters to provide a fun and fair experience for her table.

He doesn't believe in 'game balance'. Gandalf always lets him pass. As a feat, he has Exotic Weapon Proficiency (beard). The city guard often question him, just because they find him so interesting. His dice bag is woven from tarrasque leather. His TPKs end game lines. His blood cures moderate wounds. He once punched a flumph. Yes, you heard me. He belongs to a prestige class whose sole requirement for entry is just being him. ♬ He is indeed, the most interesting GM in the world. ♬

I don't know that it actually matters. On one hand low-subtier might seem meh to our remaining level 5 character, while the high-subtier might prove memorable (if fatal) for our level 1 character.

I'm kicking it out to the middle of the room again, though I lean high.

I tend to like the higher tier with 4 PC adjustment because typically they remove a few mooks per encounter which means less work for me. There, I said it, I'm selfish.

I also tend to think that with a high-enough level cleric in the party you can do anything. 'Hit points?' Where we're going we don't need hit points! ;)

Eun's player is dropping out. He's in the middle of a real-life move. So moving on from here we are at APL 3.2 so high subtier four PC adjustment.

It is at this point I should note that my IRL personality is actually quite pleasant and joking. If my roleplaying with Andolyn ever goes too far, please let me know. She's just a jerk, but what else would you expect from somebody who is legitimately a member of the Chelish Guard.

Just assume he starts at the front doors on slide 2. Hurry though or you'll be late for the mission briefing.

Just a quick note: This is one of them thar investigative-type scenarios. As opposed to those open dungeon door A and insert longsword B into minotaur #3 sorts of adventures. If I, as the GM, start out posting the entire party on a given day, you might be in trouble.

It might be the pain meds, but I'm not sure what we're trying to do here at the shop now. Like, are we completely lost down the rabbit hole, GM? Is there a check that people should be doing here?

Hosser actually made a check that could help back here.

I'd suggest going back and rereading her replies, and then if the party doesn't think they have any more questions to ask they should probably move on to one of their other leads. remember you could always return--assuming someone hasn't killed her by then. ;)

Lastly it might be a good thing for someone to write out what the party does and does not know about the case thus far.

I'll try to make a summary:

What we know

  • There have been two murders.
  • The victims were venture captain Bosk, and Sgt. Brandur Clovesh.
  • The victims knew each other well; Clovesh was doing a favour for Bosk.
  • Both men died the same way - aconite poisoning possibly accelerated by a substance that should have been a cure.
  • Clovesh's death occurred at a time that meant that the Clovesh we saw talking with Bosk must've been an imposter, and possibly was the assassin.
  • If it was the assassin, he knew Bosk's business and was going to check in on a 'safe house' every few hours. Safe bet he knows where it is.
  • Bosk said Clovesh was helping him out of a dire situation.
  • Bosk informed us that a gnome pathfinder, Timinic, had been exploring Daggermark's sewers and something went wrong with the mission.
  • Before he died Bosk told us to find Clovesh and Timinic.
  • We learned several things from notes in Bosk's safe. Clovesh (the real one we assume) brought Timinic to a safe house somewhere on the city's border; Clovesh was a decorated soldier; there's a dossier tracking the movements of an assassin named Cladara, whose work is under investigation by the authorities.
  • Just like Bosk, Clovesh drank with his killer - so it was someone he know or who looked like someone he knew.
  • Clovesh's house had a list of names. Clovesh, Bosk (who is named "Oathbreaker"), Ramyla, Timinic, and Pemak. We don't know who Ramyla is yet.
  • There were also directions to the safe house.
  • Pemak's apothecary is the source of the aconite used in the murders. The store was robbed recently.
  • Pemak believes the theft of poison from her ship is linked to a tavern called the Drippin Wall.

Okay, I've read through our interaction with her a couple times, and she keeps italicizing words like friends and associates. I'm shooting in the dark, but is there some sort of knowledge check or something that we can roll about that? I'm having trouble putting it into IC language. I thought it was maybe just emphasis but I'm desperatly grasping at straw here.

Oddly for PFS, it is not something you can just roll for this time around (at least not entirely--there was some rolling). It has to do more with events, the party's approach, and a few things the PCs have said, done, or maybe not deduced yet. There is nothing game-breaking about leaving and going elsewhere (I just need to know where) or staying and asking more questions if you have them--as she certainly seems informed. Also, she's on the list. If it some sort of hit list you could just camp here and wait for the killer to come to the party.

My parents will be in town this weekend, so a lot of my time will be spent with them. On top of that, I'll be GMing the entirety of the Ruby Phoenix Tournament from 8am to 10pm Friday at a local con, so I will very likely be unable to post Friday, and the possibility of posting Saturday, Sunday, and Monday are still up in the air. In my Player games, please bot where necessary. In my GM games, thank you for your continued patience. I REALLY hope everything goes back to normal come Tuesday.

I am stretched for time today. More later/tomorrow.

Are we going to finish this game? Feels like it's been dragging a while. No fault of yours GM.

Well, this time it was. ;)

Apparently my phone plan doesn't cover the deepest darkest depths of northern Michigan.
