Periel's shot looked to be true, but the wind over the pit deflects the arrow.

Sorry, just to clarify, Tull's Fort save when he is not raging is +14, not +17, so each of those saves would have been 3 lower. Not that it matters in this case, but just fyi.
Tull takes advantage of Enora's haste to unleash multiple blows against the poor basilisk.
Free action to enter rage, which triggers the Dutiful Strike ability of his archetype since the basilisk attacked Tull with its gaze. Using the Lunge feat to give himself 5' of extra reach (to 15' total) to attack across the chasm.
+1 dragon-bane butchering axe, haste, rage, Dutiful Strike, Divine Favor, enlarge person: 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (3) + 23 = 26
20% miss chance due to averting gaze, high is good for me: 1d100 ⇒ 9
dmg: 6d6 + 17 ⇒ (5, 3, 6, 1, 4, 6) + 17 = 42
+1 dragon-bane butchering axe, haste, rage, Dutiful Strike, Divine Favor, enlarge person: 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (2) + 23 = 25
20% miss chance due to averting gaze, high is good for me: 1d100 ⇒ 81
dmg: 6d6 + 17 ⇒ (4, 6, 1, 1, 2, 6) + 17 = 37
+1 dragon-bane butchering axe, haste, rage, Dutiful Strike, Divine Favor, enlarge person: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (13) + 18 = 31
20% miss chance due to averting gaze, high is good for me: 1d100 ⇒ 62
dmg: 6d6 + 17 ⇒ (4, 5, 3, 6, 3, 3) + 17 = 41
@GM, if the wind prevents Tull from attacking across the chasm he would like to use this boon: "Hurricane-Tempered: ONE TIME USE - “treat wind effects as if they were one category weaker per Air Affinity boon you possess (currently 2) for one round per Air Affinity boon (currently 2)." Let me know if this is necessary and if it applies this round or not until next round.
Then the enlarged half-orc steps 5' to the side to allow his comrades to approach the door.
Current AC, due to rage, enlarge, and lunge, is 16.

Just waiting to see what happens with the door to the Southeast.
Thoriel waits for Tull to step aside and then heads for the door on the south wall.

![]() |

Although some resistance, his first strike misses in his haze, but he is able to push though the wind effect and in two swipes puts the creature down.
You don't need to use your boon, it is just a more powerful Wind Wall and nothing is called out about melee weapons
Taking care of the threat you open the other door on this side.
Room 6
This rectangular chamber is divided up into three smaller cells. The cell containing the entrance and the far cell both hold a short wall of steel bars in the center on the outside. The walls dividing the cells are solid at the center, but are also made of similar steel bars close to the outer walls. An electrical buzzing can be heard coming from the far cell.
In the center of the room you see two walls on pivots Orange Segments. In each of the alcoves Lettered is a lever. A quick assessment shows that pulling the levers will do something with the rotating walls. In the far corner you can make out some dancing motes of electricity blue circle in the far corner.

![]() |

I suggest half of us go to area C and pull the lever just to test what happens so we have more info to work with.

![]() |

I will let people place themselves. Then who ever says "I pull the lever" I will then update with what happens

Enora - Arcanist Iconic |

Enora looks at the rooms and shakes her head.
"I don't know if we should all go in to be honest. I am usually good with puzzles so if one of you would volunteer to accompany me I would dare to enter and try it out."
GM, just for my understanding. Currently, we could only pull lever F and C, correct?

![]() |

Yes. Only F and C are currently accessible, without creative methods of movement

Enora - Arcanist Iconic |

Enora pulls lever F.

![]() |

Jeras will enter the room and will check for traps.
perception: 1d20 + 15 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 15 + 4 = 39

![]() |

Jeras does not find anything other than the obvious mechanism and the area for electrical motes.
Pulling the lever, the walls in the center quickly shift. The motes of electricity disappear then reappear in C. However a soft nimbus of light is left in A

![]() |

"Perhaps it would be best if this do only one person. I volunteer!"
After Enora exit the room Jeras pulls lever B.

![]() |

Tull, who is still enlarged, watches from outside the room. He removes and stows his smoked goggles. He is fatigued for 2 rounds after being enraged for 1 round, in case that still applies.

![]() |

"Sure, if you think you can do it by yourself, go ahead. Holler if you need any assistance!" Thoriel waits by the door, ready to head in if needed.
I missed the first view of the map so am a little confused at what happened when we pulled the first levers...but I'll just follow along for now and hopefully catch up from here.

![]() |

Thoriel, the orange wall sections started "horizontal" and the cackling electricity was in the lower left.

Enora - Arcanist Iconic |

Enora moves out.

![]() |

Pulling E
The walls flip Horizontal again. The Motes vanish from C leaving another nimbus of light, and then reappear in F
Walls : Horizontal
Motes : F
Nimbus: A,C

![]() |

Jeras pulls B.
If after pulling B wall moves to vertical Jeras will pull A.

![]() |

I'm guessing we want to light up all the sections without getting killed by the ball of lightning, but that's just my educated guess.

![]() |

Tull scratches his head in puzzlement and hopes that some of the brainy types in the party will make some sense of this peculiar situation. He gazes at the motes of light and wonders if they could somehow be a homage to the Butterfly Lady. "Finally..." he sighs, "the villains starting to fear the butterfly!"

![]() |

I'm guessing we want to light up all the sections without getting killed by the ball of lightning, but that's just my educated guess.
That is my guess too.

![]() |

The hands of fate seems to agree with your idea. Also Jeras has seen enough of the puzzle now to figure out what all the levers will do. Feel free just to give me a list of next steps.

![]() |

Jeras after B pulls A, and then D.
After D he pulls E, B and C and then goes out of the room.
I hope I'm right.

![]() |

As you move around the motes dance leaving soft light in all the alcoves. One the last alcove is filled, the wind wall effect cease. You may now jump/fly/walk over the pit.

Room 7
The center of this large chamber contains a large pit that drops down into darkness. Around the outside, the walkway is concave and curved, almost like a giant track. Two huge stone spheres are set into this track, in opposite corners of the room. The giant stone spheres are 10 feet in diameter and they block the way, making it very difficult to get around them.

![]() |

Menas takes measure of the challenge in front of him, "The exit is clear so that must not be the challenge. These rocks might be more than they seem."
I'm suspicious that these rocks are elementals or something capable of appearing as an inanimate object. Otherwise getting to the next door seems too easy. Anyone have any spells prepared that could tell us if these things are alive? If not, menas will grapple one of them to see what happens.

![]() |

Tull looks suspiciously from the entryway. "With the walkway grooved as it is, I wonder if those boulders will start to move and crush us or knock us into the pit. This seems like some sort of mischief! Jeras, can you disarm the mechanism?"

![]() |

Jeras enter the room and starts looking for traps.
perception: 1d20 + 15 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 15 + 4 = 31

![]() |

Jeras walks cautiously in. The stones would roll as suspected, but from near the entrance you do not see any mechanism or trigger to start them rolling
As you enter the room, a deep, growling voice of indeterminate gender cries out, “Halt! You trespass upon the domain…” and a second voice, slightly higher, continues, “of the Ruby Sphinxes. There is a price for passage.” A few seconds later, the two brass colored winged lion like creatures fly up from the bottom of the pit and perch atop the stone spheres.
The first one speaks “Only a tribute of…” then the other continues, “..of valuable magic is needed…, and then the first one completes, “...to pass”

![]() |

Menas grimaces at the word "magic" and "tribute" but it quickly passes. "Who decides if magic is valuable?"

![]() |

Taking turns speaking.
"[b]We are the Ruby...
Sphinxes. We know all the...
value of magics.[b]"

![]() |

Not like I'm going to make a tribute of magic with no spells and no magic items, so just going to talk to these guys until someone else does something.
"Know the value of magic? Who assigns its value for you to know?" Menas replies.

![]() |

"What form must this tribute take to appease you? Thoriel steps forward and asks. "Will a spell suffice, or do you need something more tangible?"

Enora - Arcanist Iconic |

Enora takes a ring from her finger.
”Here is also a magical ring that I usually never use! It is a ring of a climbing! Would you take this as a tribute?!“

![]() |

"I also can offer you my ring. ring of protection +1

![]() |

The lean forward and sniff the rings.
"Yes!. One...
for each of us. This is...
Acceptable tribute"
The two rings of climbing will satisfy them.
They swoop and each take a ring the return down the pit what you suspect is their lair.

![]() |

Menas grimaces again before crossing the room to get to he door, leaping across the pit. "Tribute of tokens not earned. Passage should have been a test or challenge, not an offering."

![]() |

Tull also leaps across the pit, but not before his friends have secured a rope on the other side to catch him in case he falls.

"It's not a negotiation when one side makes demands." Menas says to Periel as they continue.

Enora chuckles.
”Maybe they just like magic items. I can sympathise with such cravings... “
