Ensign 5th Account wrote:Silly question #2: what about the Race builder? Making new races or sub-races (mod to old races)? Not a silly question. If you want to submit one, along with a detailed description of the race, I'll take it into consideration.
I really don't like saying no. If you have a cool idea, it's my job to try to make it work within the scope of the game, and if I can't, work with you to compromise, so I can make it work.
Silly: get the Adoptive Parentage alternate trait without losing Bonus Feat.
Sillier: adoptive parents being Goblins.
Even sillier: trait gained is Eat Anything alternate trait.
I need to come up with things that make sense.

Name: Shamgar Spellbane
Class/Race: Dwarf Bloodrager (Primalist/Spelleater/Untouchable Rager)
Alignment LG
History: Originally from the Five Kings Mountains, Shamgar left because of his lack of magical talent. His family were all Wizards, Sorcerers, Alchemists Magi, etc, but he had no aptitude for any of the family trades and was, after decades of trying and failing, cast out. So he went to work in the Gas Forges of Riddleport. After 20 years he left, and settled in Roderic's Cove not long after.
Your connection to Roderic’s Cove: Shamgar settled in Roderic's Cove fifty years ago, and has since made his living as a guard andsometime weaponsmith for Perick Lonson.
Three Questions Answered: They should be answered in the character’s voice.
1. What was the most important event in your life? "Probably when me mum finally got tired of trying to teach me Alchemy and told me to go find something I were good at, since magic clearly weren't it. She was a tough one, me mum, but I'm a better dwarf for it, aren't I?"
2. Besides yourself, who is the most important person in your life? "Probably the elf lass, Audrahni. She needs to eat more, but for an elf she's no' bad to look at, and more importantly we share a certain sense of humor, and a respect for some of the same historical figures. And she can hold her liquor almost as well as a dwarf. Mighty impressive for one so skinny. I've not a got a better friend in the Cove, since old what's-his-name died."
3. How do you like your eggs and why? "Eggs are best scrambled. Preferably with cheese and a bit o' salt. And meat. Doesn't much matter what kind, just dice up whatever meat's on hand and throw it in there."
Shamgar is currently built with the Audrahni's Ally trait, but I could probably rework him with any of the others except Accidental Clone. Honestly, none of them just really jumped out at me as the must-have plot hook for his idea. He'll be built as a mage-killer. Between Untouchable's SR, the anti-caster abilities of the Arcane bloodline, and the ability to trade bloodline powers for the Superstitious line of Rage Powers, Hardy, Steel Soul, and the Glory of old and Scorned By Magic traits, no mage is going to get to be anywhere near him (and the feeling is mutual).

Name: Hileal Jothule
Class/Race: Elf Samurai (Warrior Poet)
Alignment: CG
History: Originally from Jinin in Tien Xia. Hileal trained to be a samurai to serve under the elven Shogunate. He practiced hard and reached the end of his training when his team was sent for a trial mission. They were going to the mission with a ship and Hileal had no idea about the place where they were headed because it was kept a secret from the ones participating in the trial.
This is where Hilael has a gap in his memory. He remembers boarding the boat and sailing for some days but after that the only thing he remembers is waking up on an unfamiliar beach. After wandering for a few hours Hilael arrived on a small town which he soon discovered to be Roderic’s Cove. Soon he settled in a small cottage in the town and started working as a hired guard or entertainer for wandering caravans. He has been enjoying the rustic and wild Varisia and has lived and traveled there now for over five years.
Your connection to Roderic’s Cove: Hilael has found his new home in Roderic’s Cove and enjoys the life and freedom in Varisia.
Three Questions Answered: They should be answered in the character’s voice.
1. What was the most important event in your life? "It is without a doubt the moment when my I could feel my form with the blade blend in perfect symmetry with the battle dance. It was if I could see and feel the beauty of Shelyn’s will in one moment"
2. Besides yourself, who is the most important person in your life? "It is my master of the blade Talie in Jinin. She teached me everything I know about the honor and traditions of my kind and I truly hope to see her again in the future."
3. How do you like your eggs and why? "Eggs are best when done by someone who enjoys their craft. I enjoy seeing and in this case eating the result of someone using their skills to provide me with an enjoyable meal."
Hileal will be swiftly moving samurai with a reach weapon and spring-attack. Now his history is tied to the Time lost trait but it could be changed if necessary. He enjoys peace and beauty but at the same time strives to perfect his battle dance.

New application! I may have a problem. Stat-wise, probably going to be focusing mainly on debuffing and a bit of buffing, possibly mixing it up with a touch of melee from time to time.
Name: Narast Omen-bringer
Class/Race: Scarred Witch Doctor Half-orc
Alignment NG
History – Narast was born to a Shoanti tribe near the border of Belkzen, the only second-generation half-orc in the area, and it was widely acknowledged that fate seemed to bend around him, for better or worse. Those who crossed him found themselves faced with minor, but highly unfortunate and unlikely situations coming to pass, while those he liked always seemed to have things go their way, a fact that was doubly true for Narast himself. As he grew up, he took an especially keen interest in his tribe's tattooing, and managed to become quite the artist, infusing magic into some of his tattoos. When he was 14, his tribe was visited by a near-legend, the Sihedron Hero Rixa, a holy warrior-mage (My character in a gestalt RotRL at the moment- can adjust if chosen), who took a liking to the fearsome-looking half-orc and his fledgling magical knack, and so took him under her wing as she traveled the lands. Under her tutelage, the minor magical tricks he knew and vague connection to fate solidified into a full-on magical talent, with fate bending to his will, and served as partial back-up in Rixa's travels, his abilities, minor as they were, still benefitting the legendary paladin. After a few years under her tutelage, they parted ways amicably, with Narast travelling on his own, following his mentor's footsteps. He traveled up and down the Varisian coast, settling down in towns for a few months, getting to know the local population and helping them however he can before moving on.
Connection to Roderic’s Cove: For the past five months or so (since his last Sending with Rixa), Narast has lived in Roderick's Cove, making a living as a tattoo artist and trying to get to know the locals. He's quite fond of the place, and would protect it beside, just as his mentor would. He'll probably move on in the next few weeks, though, as he feels the call to move on pulling on him again.
What was the most important event in your life? The fearsome-looking half-orc ponders for a moment, stroking the tattoo under his ear before responding in a surprisingly soft voice, "Well, that would probably be when Rixa showed up in my tribe. I'd heard stories of the Sihedron heroes, of course, but when one actually showed up and was as nice as she was, I knew I wanted to follow in her footsteps. When I got the chance to follow her and learn from her, I knew that's what I had to do. Haven't looked back since."
Besides yourself, who is the most important person in your life? "Well, that would be Rixa, like I said. She taught me magic, though neither of us are entirely sure where it comes from. We suspect Aeons, but I'm getting distracted. I do hope that she's alright, I haven't heard from her in a while."
How do you like your eggs and why? "That would be fried, with the yellow mostly solid. Lots of spices, plenty of salt, nice and greasy… it tastes so good. But yes, good talking to you, stranger. May your spirit guide you."

Since the PCs have been in the Cove for at least several months if not years, it would make sense that they would have basic knowledge of that sort of thing. I just shared the whole Roderic's Cove article with my players before the game started. You could do that or type up a list of notable NPCs and locations in the campaign info section.

^This is my policy as well. Once a group is known I like to establish relationships and fill out my backstory. No one writes a complete history there character which I think works well. In the game when you are faced with an unexpected choice you can imagine an event that would inform the decision and build out the character.

That's what I would like to do, but I don't know if it's allowed.

Here's an example for Sandpoint done for RotRL. The DM did a copy/paste from the Sandpoint Gazetteer in the AP. Done this way you can choose exactly what you share by editing the entries.
It's a little bit of work up front, but you don't need to be as comprehensive if you don't want to. It also pays off in time saved later since you can refer to it rather than writing in-game description posts.

I've been accepted into another game. So, I'll withdraw as I don't want to be spread too thin and you have many great applications. Have fun all!
Congratulations on getting into a group! You had a great submission and I'm sorry to see you go, but I'm glad you got into a group.
Good gaming, and best wishes!

Do you want/would it increase our chances of being accepted if we have full stat blocks? I have a pretty decent idea what the stats are for my characters but nothing made up at the moment, but if that'll help my odds I can throw them together.
Not at all. I am not using stats at all in my decision making process.
