I am planning on starting a Return of the Runelords campaign here for Level 1 characters. I first want to thank DM Dak for the formatting for this recruitment page.

About Me:

My name is Eric, and I am started role-playing when I was 9 years old. In 1979. So, yeah, I’m old. In my ‘career’ of playing RPG’s, I’ve played pretty much whatever game came my way – Basic, 1st Edition, 2nd Edition, Shadowrun, Rifts … played Palladium’s Robotech when I was in language school in the Army (I was a linguist) even played Lejendary Journeys when I was stationed overseas after training (there were TONS of solders who played RPG when I was in, and back then it wasn’t overly cool to play). I am married to a beautiful woman who also plays (she prefers 4th edition, but she plays Pathfinder as well), and I’m a father to a 10 year old who is very interested in playing. We have an on/off real life game on Saturdays, although we’re on a break right now, and that group prefers Pathfinder, so that has been what we have been doing.

I run a Return of the Runelords game right now via PbP on another site, and it is going well. This will be my first game here. I hope there will be enough interest in playing.

I am a story first, rules second kind of DM. I WILL make mistakes, and I hope the players that agree to be in the game will call me on them. That’s how I get better.

How I run the Game:

I covered some of this above, but I am a story first. I’m also old, and my vocabulary sometimes suffers as part of my old age. I tend to be fairly straight to the point in my writing, but my wonderful wife IS a writer (and artist and she does leather tanning (traditional brain-tanned leather, and it is exactly as disgusting as it sounds, but it makes beautiful leather)

I digress. I do that sometimes. Anyway, my wife will be my editor on some of my work, but I’m not a wall of text kind of writer. That doesn’t mean you can’t be, though – I love reading, and more detail you provide, I feel the better I can incorporate your background into the game.

I typically will roll initiative and group saves UNLESS you request otherwise. Skill checks and individual saves I will leave to you.

I will post at least once a day, and I hope that my players will at least do so as well, with the exception of the weekends. I typically will not post on weekends, but you may if you wish. Obviously real-life happens, just let me know if you can, and we can make allowances on that. I will do the same if it strikes me.

Maps – we have some options. In my games on the other site, I use Maptools with coordinates included, and you simply let me know where you are moving to. I am open to using Roll20 (I have an account) if you prefer it. Just let me know how you prefer your maps.

Character Creation Guidelines:

[list]
  • First Level Characters
  • 20 Point Buy, MINIMUM of 8 in any stat before racial adjustments
  • You can roll for gold or take average for your class. If you choose to roll, you must take the result
  • ANY Paizo-approved class excluding Summoners. Unchained classes are welcome (except Summoner)
  • ANY Paizo-approved race, excluding Goblins. Any exotic races, PM me
  • Max HP at first, either average per level afterward, or you may roll. You MUST take the result if you roll
  • 2 Traits, 1 must be a campaign trait from the Player’s Guide. It’s free. On this very site. You should read it.
  • You may take 1 drawback for another trait. It cannot be the same type of trait as one already picked (no 2 combat traits, for example)
  • We are doing background skills. No 3rd Party. I don’t have an objection to it, I just don’t own a lot of 3rd party stuff.
  • NO EVIL. This adventure is good-hearted people doing good because it’s the right thing to do. You can have ulterior motives, but no evil. Neutral is fine. Chaotic Neutral is ok even. You don’t have to be Lawful Good, but you can’t be evil.
  • Application Guidelines:

I don’t need stats right off the bat. You can do them. I know sometimes people make the character, then the personality follows, and that’s perfectly fine. I want to see the CHARACTER first – what makes him/her/it tick, what drives them. So that’s what I’m looking for.

One of the campaign traits, Close Allies, requires another PC to also have it. I encourage you to talk with other players with shared history. Another campaign trait is Accidental Clone. You can take this trait, but warning first – I will take ONLY 1 character with this trait for the game.

Here’s what I’m looking for. You can format the application any way you want, but this is the gyst of what I want:

    Name
    Class/Race
    Alignment
    History
    – Where are you from, how did you get to where you are at the start of this campaign
Your connection to Roderic’s Cove – You must have been at the Cove for at least a month, and must have a reason to want to protect the town. It can be as simple as “XX is a nice person” or be more complicated.

Three Questions Answered: They should be answered in the character’s voice.

    1. What was the most important event in your life?
    2. Besides yourself, who is the most important person in your life?
    3. How do you like your eggs and why?

Dot. I'll be submitting an Oracle of Lore with the Intrigued by Thassilon trait. I submitted it to another campaign, but didn't get in and want to give it another go over and make sure it complies with your guidelines before I officially submit it.

    Starting Gold: 3d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 5) = 12 x 10 = 120 gp

    Woohoo! Above average!

    Grand Lodge

I have a few ideas. Once I settle on one I will submit the character.

My wife is currently editing my thesis, so I'm in the 'wife is a more talented writer boat'.

Will this be for PFS credit?

Dot. Hoping to go Accidental Clone. I have a monk built for another recruitment that didn't make the cut, will likely convert them to unchained and post here in the morning,

How do you want to deal with the Sihedron Heroes?

    Shadow Lodge

Oh I like the sound of this. Let's start the wheels turning...

After scanning through the Player's guide, I really want to play a Scion of Legend, apprenticed to a PFS character of mine who went through the last two books of the RotRL on her way to 20th level.

    Silver Crusade

Definitely interested. Need to read the players guide.

What time frame for submissions are you looking at?

    Grand Lodge

    Name: Dakon Yanis

    Class/Race Human Investigator (Jinyiwei)

    Alignment LN

    History
In the wake of the rise and subsequent defeat of the returning Runelord and the six churches, those of the Sandpoint temple have sent out their inquisitors, investigators, and some specially selected cleric to keep tabs on potential ‘hot sites’ in Varisia to defend against future catastrophes. The information gathered helps the remaining Sihedron Heroes keep tabs on Thassilonian artifacts and potential sources of Thassilonian magic. Roderic’s Cove is Devlon’s beat. He has been here since the defeat of the Runelord.

    Your connection to Roderic’s Cove
Roderic’s Cove was a job for Dakon, though it has become home. He works as in investigator for the local authorities on any number of cases. This job has made him many friends with those he has solved murders for or recovered goods for, as well as many enemies, those who he has found committing crimes both large and small. The murder cases have brought him in contact with Audrahni a mysterious local with whom he enjoys the occasional conversation.

Three Questions Answered: They should be answered in the character’s voice.
    1. What was the most important event in your life?
“It was the day I decided to stop working as a PI. It was awful work. Mostly, I was digging up dirt on nobles so that they could blackmail other nobles. If I’m being honest, nobles are the worst clients. They are cheap and demanding. But, I found my calling preventing catastrophe with the church. The world is filled with devastating powers, and I get to help prevent their rise.”
He pauses, “but maybe you meant the happiest day of my life, the day my daughter was born…”

    2. Besides yourself, who is the most important person in your life?
“My wife and daughter without question. I rarely get to see them though. But, I send my stipend from church with a letter every two weeks. I make the money I need to live working here in Roderic’s Cove and get to provide my family with a good life.”

    3. How do you like your eggs and why?
“Hardboiled, they are easy, neat, and travel well. Why?”

Build: I have to finish off the build. But, the archetype combines some inquisitor stuff. The character will be a strength-based frontliner who can fill the 'rouge' role, with solid knowledges it back that up.

    Silver Crusade

I have a definite character concept in mind (a paladin of Shelyn/archaeologist Bard multiclass seeking lost artistic treasures) but I have a mechanical question which will influence direction, which class I start with, history, etc.

    Is Bladed Brush legal?

What's your beef with Goblins? I know they might be problematic in book 1, but other than that?

    and my usual...

    Name Remus "Remy" Tomovici
Class/Race Human Unchained Monk (Scaled Fist)
    Alignment Lawful Good

    History:
Remy Tomovici grew up in the town of Sandpoint. When he was just a boy, goblins attacked the town during the annual Swallowtail Festival. He watched in awe as a band of brave adventurers fought them off--the very same adventurers who would one day become the Sihedron Heroes! He knew that one day he would follow in their footsteps.

Later that same year, his town was attacked by an army of giants. Among their ranks was a red dragon that spread fire and destruction in its wake. Again the Sihedron Heroes defended the town, but he was struck by the terrible power and majesty of the wyrm. What if that sort of power could be harnessed for good?

At fifteen, Remy left Sandpoint and journeyed to Kaer Maga, where he joined a monastery devoted to the teachings of ancient warrior-monks trained by dragons in the distant past. He honed his body and learned to eschew passive introspection in favor of unshakable confidence. Once he turned eighteen, he joined up with a group of like-minded explorers and set out to plumb the depths of the ancient dungeons of Varisia.

Unfortunately, his first real adventure ended in disaster. His party came across the statue of a beautiful woman holding a double-bladed polearm. While searching it, his companion foolishly triggered a trap! Black lightning crackled through the chamber, striking his companions. Remy tried to dodge out of the way of the other bolts, but there were too many. His world exploded into pain as the magical feedback wracked his body, and then--

    Darkness.

He felt like his soul was floating free of his body, drifting through an endless silver void...

    *BA-DUM!*

His heart beat, the sound thundering in his ears. His eyes fluttered open and he took a ragged breath. It felt like he'd been suffocating for an eternity, and the rush of air in his lungs burned with intense relief. He lay there, gasping, for several moments, the world slowly swimming into focus.

The first thing Remy saw was his own corpse. His dead body lay staring at the ceiling, eyes open in terror. His body was twisted and blackened, wisps of smoke rising from charred flesh. His companions were quite dead as well.

As he looked down, a few raven-black tresses obscured his sight. Everything felt off. He couldn't help but notice the large swell of the breasts now hanging from his chest. Where once he was lean, muscular, and masculine, now he was soft, voluptuous and undoubtedly feminine. He had become a woman--and not just any woman, but the same one that the statue depicted!

Too ashamed to return to Kaer Maga, Remy traveled west, eventually reaching Roderic's Cove. There she decided to stay a while to meditate and research the fate that had befallen her. She has since learned that she's apparently in the body of none other than the Runelord of Lust, Sorshen. She has been having strange dreams lately, urging her to indulge in the pleasures of the flesh that she denied herself as a monk. The more time she spends in this body, the harder it's becoming to resist those urges. She hopes she can find a way back to her original body soon.

    Your Connection to Roderic's Cove:
Remy has only lived in the Cove for a few months' time. After several years living among the chaos of Kaer Maga, the small town life is a nice change of pace. The Cove reminds her of her childhood home of Sandpoint, and should any danger arise to threaten its residents, she wouldn't hesitate to step in and stand against it.

    Three Questions Answered:

    1. What was the most important event in your life?

"Up until recently, I would have said witnessing the Sihedron Heroes saving Sandpoint from goblins, giants, and dragons! Their courage and heroism inspired me to want to walk that same path. Now, though..." Remy gestures to her body with a grimace. "My life has been fundamentally altered. I'm stuck in a body that's not my own, plagued by disturbing dreams and visions. If I'm not careful, I might lose myself to a haze of lust and decadence. There must be a way to reverse this malady. I only hope I can discover it before it's too late."

    2. Besides yourself, who is the most important person in your life?

"That would be my sensei, Korovati. She is a nagaji from Tian Xia who brought the teachings of the scaled fists from that distant land. She was the one who trained me and honed my skills so that I might harness the power of dragons to fight against evil. But... I'm too ashamed to face her like this. I won't go back to Kaer Maga until I have restored my body."

    3. How do you like your eggs and why?

"Fried. Korovati used to harness her ki to breathe forth flames to cook breakfast for her students. Perhaps one day I will unlock that ability for myself."

I am currently running a Return of the Runelords game here on the boards, but I am very keen on exploring this character. I am capable of separating IC and OOC knowledge to not give myself an unfair advantage, so I hope this is okay with you, GM.

I appreciate this question. I meant to put this in my initial post, but neglected to.

You don't have to actually stat up a 17th level character, but I want each player to have a name and basic idea of one, as each player will also be asked to make a corresponding Sihedron Hero.

Good question. I don't have a beef with goblins specifically, I just don't think they fit thematically with the Adventure Path.

I will be using Core for age adjustments.

Good to know. Because I played through RotRl and would love to play this AP here as a follower of my previous char.

That would be perfect. There's even a campaign trait you can take (Scion of Legend) that would allow you to have a closer tie to your other character.

Hello, DM Brainiac! Your game was sort of the inspiration for this one, so I greatly appreciate you considering joining this game. I woud love any suggestions you might have. I am running this on a separate site, so I do have PbP GM experience, but not on the Paizo site.

    Big fan!

    *blushes* Oh, you!

I'd be happy to offer insights to help you get started here on the boards. Feel free to PM me any questions you might have. :)

    Scarab Sages

    This looks great!

Depending on the answer to the question below I'm looking at submitting either a Studious Librarian Bard, probably either human or half-elf, or an Elven Arcanist.

The arcanist would definitely be taking Audrahni’s Ally as a trait.

I'd totally be up for working out something with another applicant to take Close Ally for the bard.

I have a Bloodrager from ROTRL I can level up for a Sihedron Hero.

The question then: Is Desna's Shooting Star Divine Fighting Technique allowed?

Also, Hello to Brainiac and Phntm888, I could potentially be playing with two of my GMs in this campaign. Wacky!

Ah, here we go. I’ve been looking for one of these. Absolutely doting.

    Shadow Lodge

Okay, I think I'm going to go with a Dragon bloodline Bloody-Knuckled Rowdy Bloodrager with Scion of Legend, apprenticed to my dragon disciple who finished up RotRL.

GM, race-wise, how do you feel about changelings or tieflings? My RotRL character was an orphaned Tiefling who eventually developed a bad habit of taking in wayward youngsters (including dragons) under her wing and pointing them down a better path.

    Thanks.

Still want to know if Young Characters are a Yes or No?

I'm sorry, Ensign (if I may call you by your first name):

    Yes, young character are allowed.

How many characters will you be taking? Also, should we be trying to go for less-represented party roles? I keep tossing a bunch of different characters around, trying to find something that would work and be fun to play, and be conducive for level 20 play in epic Runelord duels.

    Name: Zagulo Maresh
Race/Class: Human (Varisian) Oracle (Lore mystery)
    Alignment: NG
    History - See below
Your Connection to Roderic's Cove - Zagulo had a dream that told him he needed to be here in Roderic's Cove to help protect it, and he is listening to that dream.

    Three Questions Answered
    1. What was the most important event in your life? The most important event in my life was the dream of needing to journey to Roderic's Cove. My greatest ambition is to chronicle the true and complete history of the Varisian people, and this dream has shown me the path I need to walk in order to fulfill that ambition. I only hope that I may join with these companions I have been told to seek soon, for without them I have no chance of learning what it is I seek.

    2. Besides yourself, who is the most important person in your life? The most important person in my life is Iazada, my clan's storyteller. Though she grows old and has difficulty hearing, she has been an endless well of knowledge for me. It is through her that I have learned my clan's ancient lore, and it was she who first told me of our connection to the great monuments of Varisia. Without her, I would have learned nothing.

    3. How do you like your eggs and why? Though I most commonly have eggs hard-boiled and on the move, I confess to preferring my eggs over easy with some toasted bread to dip in them. There is something about the taste of a warm, runny yoke on buttered toast that I find satisfying in a way that hard-boiled eggs aren't. It's a bit strange for a Varisian, given our nomadic ways, but then, over easy eggs are a treat when we've camped somewhere for a period of time - like on holidays or clan meets.

Intrigued By Thassilon The rediscovery of Thassilon’s legacy several years ago was an eye-opener for many, including you. After living so long in the shadow of these enormous ruins, you were intrigued to find out that they were much older than anyone could have guessed and that the runelords who built them may still exist. You’ve made a promise to yourself to uncover all that you can about Thassilon, its runelords, and the mysterious history of that ancient civilization. You gain Thassilonian as a bonus language, and at 1st level and every 2 levels thereafter, you gain a bonus skill rank that can only be applied to Knowledge (arcana), Knowledge (history), Linguistics, or Use Magic Device. Once per adventure, you may either take 20 on a Use Magic Device check or activate a charged magic item without expending any charges.
Mystery Each oracle draws upon a divine mystery to grant her spells and powers. This mystery also grants additional class skills and other special abilities. This mystery can represent a devotion to one ideal, prayers to deities that support the concept, or a natural calling to champion a cause. For example, an oracle with the waves mystery might have been born at sea and found a natural calling to worship the gods of the oceans, rivers, and lakes, be they benign or malevolent. Regardless of its source, the mystery manifests in a number of ways as the oracle gains levels. An oracle must pick one mystery upon taking her first level of oracle. Once made, this choice cannot be changed. At 2nd level, and every two levels thereafter, an oracle learns an additional spell derived from her mystery. These spells are in addition to the number of spells given on Table 2–6. They cannot be exchanged for different spells at higher levels.
----Lore Class Skills: An oracle with the lore mystery adds Appraise and all Knowledge skills to her list of class skills.
----Bonus Spells: identify (2nd), tongues (4th), locate object (6th), legend lore (8th), contact other plane (10th), mass owl's wisdom (12th), vision (14th), moment of prescience (16th), time stop (18th).
Oracle’s Curse (Su) Each oracle is cursed, but this curse comes with a benefit as well as a hindrance. This choice is made at 1st level, and once made, it cannot be changed. The oracle’s curse cannot be removed or dispelled without the aid of a deity. An oracle’s curse is based on her oracle level plus one for every two levels or Hit Dice other than oracle. Each oracle must a single curse.
----Tongues In times of stress or unease, you speak in tongues. Pick one of the following languages: Abyssal, Aklo, Aquan, Auran, Celestial, Ignan, Infernal, or Terran. Whenever you are in combat, you can only speak and understand the selected language. This does not interfere with spellcasting, but it does apply to spells that are language dependent. You gain the selected language as a bonus language. At 5th level, pick an additional language to speak in combat and add it to your list of known languages. At 10th level, you can understand any spoken language, as if under the effects of tongues, even during combat. At 15th level, you can speak and understand any language, but your speech is still restricted during combat.
Orison Oracles learn a number of orisons, or 0-level spells, as noted on Table 2–6 under “Spells Known.” These spells are cast like any other spell, but they do not consume any slots and may be used again.
Revelation At 1st level, 3rd level, and every four levels thereafter (7th, 11th, and so on), an oracle uncovers a new secret about her mystery that grants her powers and abilities. The oracle must select a revelation from the list of revelations available to her mystery. If a revelation is chosen at a later level, the oracle gains all of the abilities and bonuses granted by that revelation based on her current level. Unless otherwise noted, activating the power of a revelation is a standard action.
----Focused Trance (Ex) You can enter a deep meditation, blocking out visual and auditory stimuli and allowing you to concentrate on a single problem, philosophical issue, or memory. This trance lasts 1d6 rounds, during which time you can only take move actions. During this period, you gain a bonus equal to your level on all saves against sonic effects and gaze attacks. When you come out of your trance, you may make a single Intelligence-based skill check with a +20 circumstance bonus. You may enter your focused trance a number of times per day equal to your Charisma modifier.
----Lore Keeper (Ex) Instead of encyclopedic knowledge, you learn most of your information through tales, songs, and poems. You may use your Charisma modifier instead of your Intelligence modifier on all Knowledge checks.
Scholar of the Great Beyond (Knowledge (history)) Your greatest interests as a child did not lie with current events or the mundane— you have always felt out of place, as if you were born in the wrong era. You take to philosophical discussions of the Great Beyond and of historical events with ease. You gain a +1 trait bonus on Knowledge (history) and Knowledge (planes) checks, and one of these skills (your choice) is always a class skill for you.

    Description:

Zagulo has deeply tanned skin and brown hair to go with violet eyes. His walk is best described as rangy, and he dresses in traditional, free-flowing Varisian garb - typically a bright red with orange accents. His arms are covered with tattoos denoting the heroes of various stories in the Varisian tradition.

    History:

Zagulo was born into his clan while they rested in the village of Sandpoint. As he grew, he became close to Iazada, the clan’s historian and storyteller. Eventually he began learning how to tell stories from Iazada, especially those pertaining to the gigantic ruins that dotted Varisia. Iazada said that in an age long past, the Varisians had built those massive structures, and the knowledge of doing so had been lost in a dark cataclysm. Zagulo grew more and more curious about the ruins, and would speak with storytellers of other clans when they would meet, attempting to learn their tales, and to gain any knowledge they had of the monuments. Though all tales hold glimmers of truth, Zagulo heard much that seemed fantastic.

It was several years later he began learning more of the truth. Once knowledge of Thassilon began disseminating throughout Varisia, Zagulo gathered up as much of it as he could during his clan’s usual wanderings, eventually managing to teach himself the ancient language of Thassilon. He compared the knowledge he gathered as the clan traveled Varisia to the stories, extracting those bits of historical truth from within the stories. Thanks to his knowledge of Varisian tales and the Thassilonian history he could learn, Zagulo began to piece together the true history of the Varisian peoples. Unfortunately, there was so much lost and so much unknown, that even he could not learn all he could.

One night a month ago, as his clan camped near the town of Roderic’s Cove, Zagulo had a dream. A strange entity told him he must journey into and remain in Roderic’s Cove, for it was there he would have the chance to learn of the Varisian people’s history and the history of Thassilon. It would be a dangerous undertaking however. To do so, he would have to find companions, and face grave dangers. Roderic’s Cove would need him and these others, he was told, to protect it from dangers that lie ahead. He was then awoken by his father, for he was speaking a strange tongue none could understand. The next day, he departed the clan and went to Roderic’s Cove. He has spent the past month telling Varisian folk tales to the townspeople, purchasing supplies for his eventual explorations, and looking for the companions his dream told him of. It is only through this that the dream’s promise of knowledge and learning would come true.

I already had the stat block made, so I posted it. Here is Zagulo Maresh, Varisian storyteller and budding Oracle.

    Silver Crusade

    Name : Costin
Class/Race : Human Paladin of Shelyn (Virtuoso Bravo).
Plans to multiclass into archaeologist Bard
Alignment : LG (but less rigid than that might imply)
History : Family are refugees from Korvosa that have made Roderic's Cove their home for several years

    Much Longer History:

Costin is a 18 year old Varisian who was born in Korvosa. He was only a child when King Eodred died and the troubles nearly destroyed the city.

When the plagues hit the city Costin, together with his mother Alina and sisters Felio and Laure, managed to escape the city and joined the refugees searching for another home.

Their travels were long and hard and, despite his tender years, on more than one occassion Costin had to take up arms to defend his family. He did so reluctantly since he has always preferred non violent solutions when those are options. But a harsh life has taught him that violence is sometimes the only answer.

Along the journey his family encountered several great Thassilonian sites and he has become intrigued by that civilization.

After about a year of wandering his family ended up at Roderic's Cove and have lived here ever since.

His mother and his sisters work in a local tavern. Costin splits his time between also helping at the tavern, reading whatever scraps he can find on Thasslion, and working as a city guard.

Personality : Lover of art, especially Thassilonian Art
    Longer Personality:

Costin is a cheerful young man who tries hard (and mostly succeeds) in showing the behaviour to be expected of a Paladin of Shelyn. He sees violence as a last resort but is rather good at it when the need arises.

He tries hard to see the good in people but his upbringing has left him a little more cynical than he wishes.

He LOVES and ADORES art, particularly the visual arts. He is not particularly good at it himself (although he does try). He respects (bordering on worship) those who themselves have great artistic talent.

He is still a quite young man with all the virtues and flaws one would expect from that

    1. What was the most important event in your life?
When 7 years old, Costin attended the wedding of a cousin that was held in the Temple of Shelyn in the city of Korvosa. He had never, ever, seen such a magnificent, beautiful place. The paintings, the mosaics, the sculptures. It was like opening his eyes for the first time, seeing the world as it COULD be and not as it was.

It was then that he knew that Shelyn, not Desna, was to be the centre of his life. It was then that he started his education in the tenets of The Eternal Rose. It was then that his footsteps got started on the path that have led him to become a Paladin of Shelyn.

    2. Besides yourself, who is the most important person in your life?
His twin sister Laure. She often exasperates him with her teasing and bossiness but they are as close as two siblings can be and share absolutely everything with each other. She has his back and he has hers. Always have, always will.

He loves his mother and his sister Felio, of course, but Laure holds a very special place in his heart.

    3. How do you like your eggs and why?
Costin tries to put a little bit of artistry into everything that he does, and cooking is no exception. When he has the time he likes to make a dish that is both pleasing to the palate and also pleasing to the eye and nose. His current favourite is a herb and egg omelette with a small amount of Feta cheese. But he is constantly experimenting, constantly trying to improve.

How many characters will you be taking? Also, should we be trying to go for less-represented party roles? I keep tossing a bunch of different characters around, trying to find something that would work and be fun to play, and be conducive for level 20 play in epic Runelord duels.

I'd like to keep it at 4.

I'd prefer for you to play the character you want to play, not just what is "needed". I am not picking based on party role -- I will make adjustments, for example, if there's no cleric, or rogue. I want characters that fit together, and players who want to tell a good story.

Party role isn't really much of a consideration. You should submit who you'd like to play. As you know, that comes off in role-play.

GM, race-wise, how do you feel about changelings or tieflings? My RotRL character was an orphaned Tiefling who eventually developed a bad habit of taking in wayward youngsters (including dragons) under her wing and pointing them down a better path.

I can roll with either. :)

That would be perfect. There's even a campaign trait you can take (Scion of Legend) that would allow you to have a closer tie to your other character.

Expect an application from me and my former GM (from the RL RotRL campaign) soon. We'll probably play human brothers with the Close Allies trait that witnessed said Sihedron Hero aka my previous char.

Here is my submission. She's done except for a bit of shopping left to do.

    Name: Drä'barri
Class/Race: Female Half-Elven Oracle (Lunar Mystery)
    Alignment: Chaotic Good

    History:
Drä'barri has no memories of a mother or a father. She was born a short time after the triumphs of the Sihedron Heroes in the Churlwood to the south of Roderic's Cove. Her birth coincided with a lunar eclipse with the forest directly in the path of totality. The ominous sign of her birth made her much celebrated among the worshippers of Ashava. Living in their commune, Drä'barri spent her days hunting and working the land, so that they may frolic in the moonlight of their goddess by night. It was during these celebrations that she has become friendly with Audrahni.

    Connection to Roderic's Cove:
She has frequently visited Roderic's Cove to sell the hides and horns of the animals she has hunted and to purchase supplies. She is eager to be accepted within the town and is genuinely warm to all the townsfolk. A bit naive, she sees them as good, honest people that are nothing but kind and generous to her. She feels welcomed in the town and would defend it if called upon.

    Three Questions Answered:
    1. What was the most important event in your life?

"Oh, most definitely my birth! My friends... they call me the moon's shadow because I was born when the lands were darkened by the moon at midday! Everyone says it was a sign of Ashava's blessing. I don't know about that, but ever since I can remember, the moon speaks to me in whispers every night."

    2. Besides yourself, who is the most important person in your life?

"Daithil is the most important person to me... I know, I know... she's just a wolf you say, but she's my best friend. Well, as for my friends that walk on two legs, Alessia. She's kind and comforting. She's not my mother, but she did raise me, at least the best she could. I still see her from time to time, but she rarely comes to town these days."

    3. How do you like your eggs and why?

"Hard boiled, of course. Preferably just salted... but pickled is fine too. Any other way, is too messy and takes too much time to eat. Oh, oh, wait! Deviled... most definitely deviled. It's like hard boiled, but you take the yolks and mix them with just a touch of vinegar and spices, especially paprika. Those are the best!"

    Personality:
Drä'barri is young and naive. She holds dark and mysterious powers, but her heart is pure goodness. She is law-abiding and respectful, but is carefree and careless at times. She almost always has a smile on her face that is infectious to all around her. Even when she casts necrotic spells, she is jovial but not maniacal in any sense. She speaks rapidly and without much thought which often leads to problems for her. But with a smile and a wink, she's usually forgiven by all who know her.

I present my submission, a troubled Half-Orc trying to forget her past and make something of her future. Mechanically, will either fill a tank kind of role or a more support roll, depending on the rest of the group.

    Varia Longlore
    Sister-in-Arms Cavalier/Half-Orc
    LG

    History:
Varia Longlore was born south in Korvosa years ago, to a half orc seamstress and a local militia member. This makes her more of one fourth orc, but that really did not matter much to anyone she knew growing up. They still disliked her for it. Her childhood was spent up in the Shingles, playing with herself while her mother worked. No other children would play with her, but at the least she had her mother for company.

As she got closer to adulthood, she ventured more and more out of the shack, and found herself getting into more and more trouble. She had inherited her father’s build, growing brawny, strong, and temperamental. She stopped taking the taunts lying down, pushing back with varying degrees of success. Her own father more often than not wound up showing up to deal with the aftermath. He decided her feisty nature should be put to good use, and got her to join up with the Militia.

The militia did her a bit of good, giving her just a bit more respect and something to keep her occupied. Her dad taught her the basics of fighting with a blade, which she took to quickly and efficiently, picking up what she needed to do her job in good time. She didn’t make massive waves, but she did her job efficiently and without hesitation, which caught the eye of servants of Queen Ileosa. They approached her with a promotion, a chance to join Queen Ileosa’s illustrious personal guard… The Gray Maidens.

She could not resist the urge to join such a group, and eagerly accepted the offer. She bid her parents farewell as she moved out of their shack and left to begin the initiation, and found herself in Hell. The brutality of it was terrible, her face scarred and the conditioning having begun for her. Luckily, it wasn’t long before the Queen fell and the recruiting of new Gray Maidens stopped. Varia had been changed deeply by the experience, and couldn’t stand to be in the city any longer. So she left, traveling north to the first town that seemed a good place to settle down. The small coastal town of Roderick’s Cove, where she has remained since, working as part of the local militia and making friends, putting her efforts in particular towards Audrahni, feeling almost a kindred spirit in the loner.

    Connection to Roderick’s Cove[/spoiler:
She’s settled down in the town for a while now, has made a fair few friends including Audrahni, and generally likes the place. It’s a good place in her mind.

    Answered Question:

    1. What’s the most important event in your life?
Varia snorts, rubbing her chin while leaned back against the building’s wall.”Most important event… Well, I’d say it was when I was picked to join the Gray Maiden’s back in Korvosa. Left me with this nasty scar,” She gestures up to the ugly scar crossing her face. ”as well as… other things. I wouldn’t be who I was now if not for that single event, so… Not the best event in my life, but the most important.”

    2. Besides yourself, who’s the most important person in your life?
Varia quirked an eyebrow, chuckling and shaking her head. ”If ya’re askin if I’m in a relationship, I gotta ask what’s wrong with ya. But to answer yar question… I’d probably say my mom and pop back home in Korvosa, if they’re alive. If not… I guess Audrahni, since she’s probably my closest friend at the moment. She’s taught me a lot about the local area, and we’ve had some fun together… Don’t get any funny ideas.”

    3. How do you like your eggs, and why?
Varia grins wide, laughing. ”I like them scrambled. Mostly cause they’re easy to make like that. Hard to mess up as well, which is good cause I can’t cook to save my life, but I usually don’t mess up scrambled eggs… Usually.” She laughs and leans off the wall, waving and going back to her rounds.

Okay, so I think I've got this narrowed down to a few different possibilities, and I'm hoping for maybe a push to send me in the right direction:

Idea 1: a counterspell-focused Arcanist/Exploiter Wizard- could be fun in this game where presumably we'll be fighting a lot of casters. Wouldn't be a slouch at other times either, but I'm not entirely sure.

Idea 2: a psychic duelist- someone focused on the Instigate Psychic Duel spell and gets up to shenanigans with that. My main concern there, though, is that to even get someone dueling, they have to fail a Will save, and it's always dangerous building a character around a single mind-affecting spell.

Idea 3: a crippling debuffer, probably a mesmerist, that can shut down even the best will saves out there and leave opponents a huddling wreck, failing to do anything. My main concern here is if I can't quite manage to counteract what will end up being Mythic-level saves.

Idea 4: a possession-focused build, wherein my biggest shtick will come with the ability to abandon my body and control a big brute day in and day out. This one just takes forever to come online, really, which is the main problem with this one, but body-hopping could be fun.

Note, I have really great ideas for all these characters story-wise, and that's as much of the problem as any. All of these would be great from a story perspective, I'm just trying to figure out which would be the most fun to play.
So... yeah. Any suggestions? Once I pick one, I should have a full application in almost immediately.

    Grand Lodge

Based on ROTR and Shatter Star wizards fit really well into the story and are fun to play thoughout.

I really want to play a character that’s different from the ones I’m playing. But I also really want to play a Paladin of Ragathiel (a class/deity combo I’m playing in two other games) who personifies Righteous Anger as a virtue and goes toe to toe with Alaznist and smites the Hell Abyss out of her if/when she shows up.

I'm new to these forums too, but I'd definitely like to see if I can put a character together for this. I just downloaded the players guide, let me see if inspiration strikes and I'll put something forward.

How do you want to deal with the Sihedron Heroes?

I appreciate this question. I meant to put this in my initial post, but neglected to.

You don't have to actually stat up a 17th level character, but I want each player to have a name and basic idea of one, as each player will also be asked to make a corresponding Sihedron Hero.

    Thanks.

Hrm, seems like Audrahni has plenty of allies so far, and Thassilon is quite intriguing to many...

Also no summoner, so there goes my idea of having a twinned Accidental Clone for two fake Sorshens running around... :(

Not really sure what to do, I'm going to give it a bit more thought.

    [MunchKin Mode]

Can I use the Time Lost trait as an excuse to play a full blooded Azlanti?

    [/Munchkin Mode]

^ needed to get that one out of my mind.

I have it! And it's completely different from everything I was considering. And I have no idea where this is going to go. But I think this will work.

So, something that I've found myself doing recently (as the number of my PBP games keeps increasing) is figuring out what, exactly, the allowed options provide me with the chance to do that's unique with that concept.

And it just clicked: a child time mage. So, with the meta-backstory out of the way.....

    Name: Maddie Elthis
    Race/Class: Young Human Wizard (Chronomancer)
    Alignment: N

    History:
Maddie's parents were frequently worried about their daughter- she always suffered from nightmares growing up. They weren't particularly well-off nor poor, but had an average, comfortable life. However, while perhaps a little on the bright side as a baby, Maddie didn't seem particularly special, except for an occasional moment where she knew something she apparently shouldn't or acted much older than she should. But by the age of three, she started experiencing very, very vivid dreams every night. They were often nightmares, of terrible monsters chasing her, of dragons burning towns, or corpses lurching forward to attack… Her parents took her to the clerics of Desna, but there was nothing they could do.
From Maddie's perspective, she understood, though her parents didn't believe her, that her dreams weren't nightmares- they were visions of other places, other times. During the day, she studied when possible, played with other children on occasion. But at night, she met with herself. Well, herself from the future at least. While she had no idea how it was happening (nor did she care to ask, figuring she'd find out in time), she did learn many skills and facts from herself. It was in this manner that she managed to become a wizard at such an absurdly young age- having already gone through the process herself, her older persona knew exactly what to say to guide young-her through her first cantrips. By the time she was eight, she cast her first cantrips. While her parents were concerned for her well-being and confused at her studiousness, she *somehow* knew just what to say to put them at ease. After her magical abilities came in, though, the visions and dreams stopped occurring with such regularity, and now she only briefly experiences her time-displacement. It's still enough for her to occasionally sense something happening before it does, though. She's getting the sense that she should be moving on soon, though, but doesn't have a clear motivation or goal as where to go. For now, she's just living her life, occasionally getting herself into trouble, but that comes from her desire to experience whatever old-her experienced to make her so powerful.

    Three questions:

"The most important event of my life? Well, *laugh*, I suppose that would be the moment I was born, isn't it?" she pulls back into a contemplative expression and looks off into the distance before responding, "Well, I suppose that perhaps the most satisfying moment I've had was the moment I cast my first spell. Ma-my, that was so much of a rush. I had been trying for months, you know? But when I finally got my mana flowing and channeled into something useful, I knew it was completely worth it. Does that answer your question?"

"I guess my parents. My mom really loves me, and I love her too. Papa's great too. I… suppose that they're the most important people in my life, but that doesn't mean they're my favorite. Elric, that half-elf kid who lives over on Gathroad? He's really fun. Not terribly smart, but fun. I like him. Also Audrahni. She's nice. She's seen a lot, which I get. I've known her for a while. My parents tell me to be careful around her, but she's great! And she doesn't treat me like a kid, which everyone else does…."

"Eggs? Hard-boiled. Way easier to eat on the move. Any other kind, I have to actually sit down with a knife and fork. That's not really fun. But I can just grab one that's hard boiled, peel it, and then just take bites out of it while I'm reading or exploring."

Stats will come later, assuming my crazy idea is okay.

Do the ability score adjustment for Young characters count as a racial adjustment?
