PHYLACTERIUM OF NERO ANTICHRIST

A demiplane created by Nero's most potent magic lies on the other side of the great spiraling crimson vortex.

The ground is flat, hard pan desert, with few rocks and skeletal, undead birch trees stand in the outer bailey, in front of a dark gray stone castle with a gargantuan crystal skull surmounting one of the higher towers. Besides leering gargoyles on the castle battlements, the fortress is defended by several obvious defenders of monstrous stature...

A stone giant guards the door...

A Nessian war hound also stands guard outside the door.

Four cloud giant sentinels stand on the upper turrets of the castle...

And a blue dragon the size of a large horse perches upon a forward turret...

M Human unchained monk 8/paladin 6

Whether fate decrees that the adventurers act before the defenders or the defenders choose to delay their actions, the Mighty Ones win initiative...

M Human unchained monk 8/paladin 6

The party begins combat 60 feet from the stone giant and the Nessian war hound on the ground outside the castle.

The Ogon Fox moves forward to stand beside Johann. He prepares himself to attack if an enemy draws near enough.

Move action to get side by side with Johann. Readying an attack for my standard.
Readied Attack: 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (16) + 23 = 39
Damage: 2d6 + 9 ⇒ (3, 2) + 9 = 14

Is Heroism still going? If so, add 2 more to that attack roll.

Smarting from Alphonse's smiting stroke with Foereaper, the young blue dragon snarls and blasts the paladin with a bolt of lightning from its fanged jaws, aimed so that the bolt passes in a line through Alphonse to strike at Ogon Fox where the kitsune has just dashed up next to Johann!

Lightning breath (80-ft line) deals 6d8 ⇒ (2, 3, 5, 3, 6, 4) = 23 electricity damage to Alphonse and Ogon Fox, Reflex DC 18 for half damage (or evasion)...

Another hurls a boulder at Johann... Rock 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (13) + 12 = 25 misses... ...but Johann ducks the missile, and it bounces harmlessly across the hard pan behind him...

Another hurls a boulder at Ogon Fox... Rock 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (18) + 12 = 30 strikes for 2d6 + 18 ⇒ (5, 6) + 18 = 29 bludgeoning damage! ... *WHUMP!!* The missile bounces off the kitsune's left thigh!

The fourth hurls its boulder at Lord Perpireen... Rock 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (3) + 12 = 15 misses... ...who nimbly dodges, continuing to speak to the storm giant commander...

The wounded stone giant door guard strikes back at Lady Ihrin with its massive club... Greatclub 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (14) + 16 = 30 misses... second swing 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (16) + 11 = 27 misses!

*WHIFF!*...*WHIFF!* Ihrin dodges the giant's swings...

The Nessian war hound turns toward Lady Ihrin and exhales a blast of hellfire at the samurai/rogue... Cone of fire deals 10d6 ⇒ (1, 2, 1, 1, 4, 3, 6, 1, 6, 4) = 29 fire damage, Reflex DC 21 for half damage or evasion...

The storm giant commander leans on her massive greatsword and listens to Lord Perpireen's news about Queen Mab, a look of growing alarm on her green face...

I am going to use Ally Shield! Johann and I both took this teamwork feat forever ago but haven't used it yet:

Quote:
Quote:

Ally Shield (Betrayal, Teamwork)

Source Champions of Corruption pg. 20
You are willing to use your allies as shields to ward off attacks aimed at you.

Benefit: Whenever you are the target of a melee or ranged attack and are adjacent to an ally who also has this feat, you can initiate this feat to skillfully pull the abettor into harm’s way or dodge behind the abettor as an immediate action. You gain cover against that attack (and only that attack). If the attack misses you but would have hit you if not for the cover bonus to your Armor Class, the abettor becomes the target of the attack and the attacker must make a new attack roll (with all the same modifiers) against the abettor’s Armor Class.

The cover bonus raises my AC to 34, making the attack a miss. Since it would have hit me without the cover bonus, Johann is now the target of the attack, but it needs to be rolled new.

Reflex vs the lightning breath DC 18: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (16) + 15 = 31

The Fox skillfully dodges the young blue wyrm's lightning breath, and ducks behind Johann, as well, when a boulder is coming his way!

The defenders are positioned thusly:
A massive fortress with an open inner bailey accessed through the main gate, an archway with massive iron portcullis guarded by the stone giant and the Nessian war hound, giant on the left (facing the castle), hell hound on the right. Lady Ihrin is currently on the left side of the main gate, attacking the stone giant. 30 feet up are the lower battlements, where the large young blue dragon is currently struggling against Sir Alphonse Veritas, who is flying by way of his celestial platemail. Not far from the scene of this struggle, the storm giant commander leans upon her giant greatsword, listening to Lord Perpireen McGibel's attempt to parley in the midst of hostilities...

Four cloud giants stand atop the upper battlements, hurling big pieces of castle masonry torn from the crenelated turrets at the Mighty Ones...

About 30 feet back from the front of the castle and the stone giant and Nessian war hound are Johann Kaltgeboren and Ogon Fox, poised to strike at aggressors that come into their reach... Another 30 feet behind the shapeshifters, 60 feet from the front of the castle, stands Mwikali and Kiku...

Atop the highest square tower of the ominous fortress perches a gargantuan skull of gleaming crystal that sparkles with rainbow lights... Something seems to be moving about inside the giant crystal skull...

30 feet up are the lower battlements, where the large young blue dragon is currently struggling against Sir Alphonse Veritas, who is flying by way of his celestial platemail.

Not quite; Alphonse is currently flying via the aid of the angelic wings provided by Greater Angelic Aspect.

Reflex: 1d20 + 13 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 13 + 2 + 2 = 23

Alphonse is barely touched by the electric breath. Due to electricity resistance 10, he takes only 1 damage.

"Leave this instant and I will not pursue, young dragon. Persist in this foolishness and I will be forced to bring you to a premature end. You are no match for my own might, or that of Heaven."

If the dragon does not immediately begin to retreat, Alphonse attacks.

Attack 1: 1d20 + 32 ⇒ (9) + 32 = 41
Damage: 2d4 + 37 + 2d6 ⇒ (2, 4) + 37 + (2, 6) = 51

Attack 2: 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (20) + 23 = 43
Damage: 2d4 + 37 + 2d6 ⇒ (4, 1) + 37 + (1, 2) = 45

Attack 3: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (10) + 18 = 28
Damage: 2d4 + 37 + 2d6 ⇒ (4, 3) + 37 + (3, 3) = 50

Confirm Attack 2?: 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (16) + 23 = 39
Crit damage: 6d4 + 111 ⇒ (1, 3, 3, 1, 3, 1) + 111 = 123

Haughty and cocky, full of undeserved confidence, the young blue dragon defies the paladin, and he promptly saws her in halves with Foereaper! The dragonparts drop from the turret trailing blood...

He sees that she now comprehends.

"These here will end Nero, his time is done. But you Gaint Queen, need not end here today. Go, take your kind and go, we will not hinder you. I will see you again at the Seelie Court. Tell Queen Mab I am coming."

With that, he bows to her so she may see.
