Characters

1. Starting level 7; you will level to 8 along the way.
2. Standard wealth by level: 23,500 GP
3. Paizo material and most races are fine; this is not for PFS.
4. Try to finish your character by Wednesday night so we can get started.
5. Come up with a couple questions for your fellow party members to get to
know them and post in the discussion forum. Suggestions were to
establish some commonalities or reasons you might know one another
while still retaining whatever mystery.

Background

You are here in Morsain, a prosperous but remote town that’s beset by danger and dark legends, as part of an important job. You've been tasked with helping security at the pre-wedding events for Prince Ruhtin and a local girl. This wedding will help bolster the strained relationship between Morsain and the capital.

It'll be an easy job. Time to break out the ceremonial uniforms and attend a royal party!

Module Meta

You will be attending the party as security for any number of reasons — that's up to you. Perhaps you're a mercenary, friends with the prince, working for the king's secret police, in the pay of the Queen, or an insurgent. Or something else — it’s up to you! Please peruse the player's guide for some background on the area.

Regional Politics

The country of Klavek is a grand sweep of grasslands, snow, ice and tundra. But some areas stand out, as they are forested hills and low-level mountains — areas rich in natural resources that see towns and villages spring up nearby. Every city and hamlet must pay heavy taxes to King Tolkovar Klavek XIII in Mohkba; the general populace in these lumber and mining towns tends to hold a slightly grumbling, negative view of the monarchy, while the leaders and councils lean toward a more diplomatic approach. Morsain is such a town.

Set many miles from the capital, along a notorious road that's usually avoided because of both natural and humanoid-made hazards, the town of Morsain has a fractious relationship with the capital.

Its closeness to the more hostile regions of Klavek territory means it often finds itself as the center of guerrilla activity led by dwarf, gnome, halfling, and other humanoid communities — all of which have historically used the local resources for themselves in attempt to assert their authority over the “incomer humans.”

The government of Mohkba's response — essentially directed by Tolkovar himself — has always been seen as slow at best, and ignorant of the town’s needs at worst. This has led Morsainians to sometimes hold back wood, ore, and taxes from the king, just to make a point.

Nevertheless King Tolkovar is impressed with the leader, ruling body, and citizens of Morsain. Their produce rates as among the best in the realm and he has quietly acknowledged the place does a fine job in supporting his expansionist ambitions.

In fact, he's resolved to do “just a little more” for Morsain. What this consists of has been under discussion for over a year, and the final details are almost in place. One aspect of this plan, confirmed in the last few weeks, is the betrothal of Tolkovar’s 4th son, Prince Ruhtin, to Lumi Valkea Valtatytar, the daughter of Herttua Valta, Morsain’s leader. This has been rumored for several months, and indeed, negotiations have been ongoing with regard to how the young couple’s love can help improve relations between Mohkba and Morsain. Lumi and Prince Ruhtin are set to be married in the near future, and the act will be seen as the cement for a number of other events that will keep Morsain and Mohkba close for the foreseeable future.

The prince’s goddessmother, Attendant Queen Haijyin, has been seen increasingly at the side of the king of late. She is a stunning woman, in a severe and unforgiving way, but there are whispers that her her beauty clouds with jealousy and rage. She is not a woman to cross.

Haijyin is only the king’s 5th Attendant Queen, but is one of the three most powerful people in Klavek, not just because of her own abilities, but because she commands personal loyalty from those around her — a trait almost unheard of in the kingdom.

While Tolkovar himself can say most Klavek citizens are on his side, it is because of his strength rather than true loyalty. Queen Haijyin, on the other hand, has shown that you can carve a life for yourself from nothing. Many citizens openly admire her for it. Of the items Attendant Queen Haijyin owns, is the renowned Mirror of Mental Prowess. It came to her by mysterious means soon after she rose to Attendant Queen.

The latest rumors say that that Queen Haijyin is concerned with this upcoming wedding — in particular, the bride.

Dot. Maybe we can use the Recruitment tab to intro characters?

SoT (Year 4, Sem. 1): Maps & Slides, Handouts, Macros

Yeah, that sounds pretty good to me!

Grand Lodge

Posted an intro for Gate. I’ll post in character with some questions.

He/Him

Hey all. This week has gotten away from me a bit, and I still haven't finished building Samen Einbetten. With Big Bad Con this weekend, I'm not sure if I will have him totally finished before the Sunday. Is it ok if we push the start to early next week? Sorry!

SoT (Year 4, Sem. 1): Maps & Slides, Handouts, Macros

Yes but let's not push it further; we will have a little time to explore town as well, so your character doesn't have to necessarily be 100% done (mechanically) at that point.

Grand Lodge

1 person marked this as a favorite.
He/Him

In that case, we can start. I just need to purchase gear, essentially.

Male human vigilante 8 | hp 17/59 | AC 21 (+1 haste, +2 Shield of Blades), T 14, F 18 | F+5, R+11, W+9* | CMB +10 CMD 24 (Dirty Trick +12/26) | Init +3, Speed 30ft. | Perc +9, SM +5 | Active Conditions:

Based on the warning we got about bringing dangerous equipment, are thieves tools something that would have been prohibited, or could Samen have his with him? He has a set of concealable thieves tools, but would not have risked bringing them if he thought it would get him kicked out.

SoT (Year 4, Sem. 1): Maps & Slides, Handouts, Macros

No tools. Clearly, no one thought there would ACTUALLY be traps.

You can improvise tools at a -2 penalty.

GM Link | HP 59/59 | AC 18 T 13 FF 16 | CMB +5, CMD 15 | F: +7, R: +12, W: +12 | Init: +4 | Perc: +15, SM: +22 | Melee: Dagger +6 1d3-2

I'm beginning to think we were expected to fail.
