You are correct, thank you for looking it up. I've always been a bit fuzzy about onset times, but the example at the end clears it up. Katsu may make the save with a +4 competence bonus from Luli's Heal check and Misfortune can be applied.

While the more divine characters discuss healing magic, Byron will cast heightened awareness and will check out the southern double doors.
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
He'll also cast detect magic and sweep the entire room.

Grandmaster TOZ |

Byron notices an aura on the pharoah's severed hand, as well as a green gem and silver figurine among the grave goods. The doors to the south seem clear of traps, while the walls bear hieroglyphs that would be of great value to historical scholars if transcribed.

![]() |

"Inscriptions? I can make a rubbing of them."
Helena will start collecting and documenting what she is able without having vision.
Looks like there is also a green gem to spellcraft, I'd offer to help, but I don't have any ranks.

![]() |

Oops, missed that one.
Gem Spellcraft: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24

Grandmaster TOZ |

Byron recognizes the hand has become a hand of glory, retaining some of the pharoah's ancient magic. The figurine seems familiar, but the uniqueness of the crafting makes it hard to identify. The gem likewise escapes Byron's experience.

"Oh? What do you have there Byron?" Luli asks cheerfully.

Grandmaster TOZ |

Luli is able to recognize a variant of a bronze griffin figurine of wondrous power, that summons a hieracosphinx when activated. The gem is a periapt of wound closure.

"A periapt of wound closure!" Luli says excitedly. "Katsu! Come put this on and let's try the wand again!"

I believe that it would count in this situation. Is Katsu putting the periapt on?

Most Certainly!

Grandmaster TOZ |

Luli notices that strangely, even after Katsu takes up the periapt, the healing magic still fails. Clearly, something else must be going on.

With how this dungeon works, the amulet is probably a cursed loadstone masquerading as a peripet of wound closure lol.

If everyone is ready, Byron will cast his last prepared enlarge person on Helena and stand aside so we can open this last(?) door.

Grandmaster TOZ |

Helena pushes open the doors after a brief moment of finding them locked and testing the key found on the zombies in the glamored room. Beyond, the bare chamber is covered in carvings of neatly rowed hieroglyphs. Two statues of men with jackal heads flank the now open doorway. On the far side, a matching door can be seen.

Byron will take a look around the room.
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21

Grandmaster TOZ |

Byron peers around the room and sees little else of interest, save for the statues. As he looks closer, he realizes they are not just statues but animated objects.
Knowledge Arcana might tell you more. They are currently not attacking.

![]() |

Knowledge (Arcana): 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 9 + 2 = 21
"Wait!" Byron whispers. "The statues are animated!"

Grandmaster TOZ |

It is difficult to say what specific abilities these object have been constructed with, but they are certainly proficient with the khopeshes they carry. Like all objects they will likely resist physical and energy damage (oh joy hardness again). Something about the sigils carved into their attire tells Byron that they have been animated with necromantic spirits that can be harmed with positive energy like an undead.

![]() |

Well, another fight against animated objects is going to be tough, although these are only medium sized at least. What do you guys think? Do we need a rest? Should we try to get the mummy rot removed from Katsu first?

![]() |

Might be tough, but I don't see us getting rid of that Mummy Rot anytime soon, we are I think weeks away from where we might be able to get the appropriate scrolls.
Also is there anything in the room that we are actually interested in? I suppose documenting the glyphs ect. Might be able to just go around.

![]() |

Byron will cautiously cast detect magic and scan the room.

Nope, no magic detected. You would think the statues would, but I don’t think they count for the spell.

![]() |

"I believe you may be right, Helena. Lets go around."

Grandmaster TOZ |

As you navigate back around, you make your way down the other hallway. As you pass where you believe the secret door would be located, you see that hieroglyphs are carved in the walls on either side. The scenes depict the pharaohs death, funeral, and internment in the pyramid. More scenes along the wall predict his rising from the dead and ruling over the land again. Ahead, the hall continues further onward, with a door in the north wall barely visible at the edge of your light spells.

Active Perception on the door: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15

![]() |

"Isn't this the other side of the room with the guardian statues?" Luli asks. "Maybe we don't want to disturb them from this side either."

Grandmaster TOZ |

The door feels too far along the wall to be connected to the room. Byron detects no traps.

![]() |

"Let's enter, before my spell on Helena expires."

Grandmaster TOZ |

Opening the door reveals that each corner of this room holds a stone obelisk carved with hieroglyphs. The obelisks surround a golden circle engraved in the center of the floor. Nothing else is readily apparent in the room.

![]() |

"Katsu, do you sense any traps?" Luli asks as he scans the room for magical auras. "There's been something in every room of this tomb so far - I wouldn't expect the pattern to break here."
Casting detect magic.

The only auras Luli detects are on the four obelisks.

The southwest obelisk seems normal, but the southeast generates a cool breeze towards the center of the room. Heat radiates from the northwest obelisk while the northeast is covered with condensation. Nothing further happens as Byron examines them.

![]() |

"Well, I'm not sure. But it seems pretty likely opening it up will do something with this spell. Probably should get ready for trouble."
"If the heats any indication it'll be a fire elemental of some kind."
Byron will step away and load his crossbow, and make sure his scroll of resist energy (fire) is in reach.

![]() |

"That makes sense," Luli says as he guides Karma in to stand next to Byron. "Helena, do you want to try opening the compartment? Maybe with your weapon drawn?" Beneath him, Karma sniffs the air confusedly as the pillars' smells mingle.

Grandmaster TOZ |

Helena stands over the golden circle on the floor, but nothing else changes in the room. She can easily see the outline of the hidden compartment now that Byron has pointed it out.
